What is the best gaming CPU available?

I have a 4090 and i'm looking for the best available cpu (within reason). I currently have i9 13900K but unfortunately it's one of the janky ones that crashes games CONSTANTLY when compiling shaders. I was planning to buy the Ultra 9 285K but I heard it is underwhelming and has its own issues. So I'm open to getting an AMD cpu but I don't know much about them. What would you all suggest? Intel or AMD?

In terms of am4 dirt cheap affordability then the 5700x3d and 5800x3d can’t be beat, only the former I believe is regularly sold now.
In terms of am5, the 7800x3d and 9800x3d are the best of today, but the 9800x3d needs to find its way to consumer reviews for this to be verified, and the 7800x3d is cheaper.
It depends on your build, games, and target frames. Only trying to hit 4k60 in AAA? You’ll be fine with a 7800x3d or even a 5700x3d. Trying to hit 1080p120 in baldur’s gate splitscreen? You’ll need 7800x3d or better.

I was more looking into the 5700x3dxx, 7500F, 7600 price range, but I really do want a 9800x3d, or a 7800x3d at least though.
What I don't get is, why "premium gaming" CPUs, like the x3D series have Integrated Graphics, when most users will be buying a separate GPU.

My target is games like Cyberpunk 4K maxed RT settings.
My build- 4090 32GB 1000W PSU

Yeah singleplayer games are typically GPU bottlenecked. You’ll be fine with any of the chips mentioned, but if you have a 4090, odds are you’ll just want top shelf.

9800X3D is the new king of gaming by a good margin, especially with all the issues that Intel has been having

Just got the 9800X3D and an Asus Strix 870-E. Sold out everywhere immediately but a local store in San Francisco just listed them this morning on the website. I’m so happy to have found this listing. Just need an AIO cooler. Guess I’m an AMD guy now!

I'm not knowledgeable at all about amd but didn't they just release figures that show the 9800X3D is only better than it's predecessor by 1%?
I am being serious I honestly have no clue.

So since it’s brand new, will I need a new mobo to pair with it? Does it have generational socket changes like Intel or will I be able to pick a mobo that’s from last year for example?

Just AM5

AMD has consistently had the best gaming CPU since the release of the X3D series two years ago. The 9800X3D is releasing tomorrow, but if you want a known, stable platform, get the 7800X3D instead.

Id go for the 9800X3D just for the temps tbh lol
sakata_gintoki113@reddit
the temps literally dont matter
AverageAggravating13@reddit
I mean sure, beyond a certain point I guess. But i’d rather pay $450 for a cpu that performs better and is several degrees cooler.
sakata_gintoki113@reddit
almost no difference and its probably not gonna stay 450$
AverageAggravating13@reddit
they absolutely do matter for a portable pc what lol

You've been badly uninformed. Even 7800X3D has been better than 13900k and 14900k, on average about 5-15% better depending on the game. 9800X3D just released today and it's even 10-15% faster than 7800X3D.
I myself just changed to 7800X3D 4 months ago after using Intel my whole life. 9800X3D is simply the kind of gaming CPU

Extended Warranty on 13th and 14th gen cpus

7800x3D or the new king 9800x3D
Elitefuture@reddit
7800x3d was already the fastest, the 9800x3d is going to be a generational leap. So I'd get that. The 9950x3d is rumored to have vcache per ccd. So the 9950x3d might be the fastest later.
The 285k is slower than the 14900k at gaming. The 14900k is already slower than the 7800x3d and uses 3x the power if not more.

Maybe spend like 3 minutes looking?
