With “recovered” i mean im not currently in psychosis and have been stable for a few years. Its more that im managing my condition more than its “cured” it is indeed a life long disease
When you said "dribbler" I fucking lost it with laughter cause my immature ass can only think of a schizophrenic hero that is BALLING to save the day on a bus with his all seeing basketball.
Having worked in a counseling center doing intake interviews and evaluations with multiple unmedicated schizophrenic patients, I can personally confirm that every single one of them believes they're the one that's cracked the code and that the voices are helping them.
I heard that the voices being antagonistic are mostly an American/European thing. In small communities like tribes, schizophrenia can manifest as benevolent voices. It's allegedly directly impacted by your environment and how you were raised. I'm no doctor or expert but it was a really interesting read. Do you have any direct experiences with patients like that?
Well, for context I am also American, but I have spoken with probably a half-dozen or so patients during my time there who insisted that their voices were helpful and supportive and kind. These patients almost universally believed that it was either God, Jesus, or angels talking to them.
In many cases, I found these patients even more difficult to connect with. Patients who turned up in my office because they were at an emotional breaking point wanting the negative voices to stop might have been volatile, but they at least were willing to open themselves to talking to counselors or at least thinking about seeing a psychiatric who could prescribe anti-psychotics. After a ceetain point, you just want peace and you'll try anything to get it. The ones who thought God Himself was personally guiding them? They just wanted to convert me to whatever brand of born-again Christianity they subscribed to that day, and often believed that they were "chosen" by God to lead others.
I read about how schizophrenia manifests differently in different cultures. Somewhere like the US which is very individualistic is closer to the stereotypical depiction of paranoia or antagonistic hallucinations. In more collectivist societies or those that have a focus on more than just immediate family it tends to be less harmful. People might describe hallucinations as helpful or like ancestors guiding them.

To a degree. Especially finding it hard to be motivated to do anything. A lot less than it was a few years ago though

Wasn’t the term “desease” in relation to mental disorders outdated because “desease” implies there’s a cure?

no!

The term “desease” is spelled “disease”. That’s all I have to offer unfortunately, idk anything else
