CFII SPIN REQUIREMENTS

Hello everyone, I am currently training for my CFII and am a little confused for the requirements. I am not a CFI and am skipping it for the time being. It is my understanding that I am not required to receive spin training for the CFII, but looking at 61.183 im not sure. I see in (i)(2) is says “demonstrate instructional proficiency in stall awareness spin entry and spins” i do not see where it says that the requirement is not needed for CFII. Am i overlooking something? Or am i mistaken?

You are required to have spin training before you become an instructor. Typically people are CFIs before becoming CFIIs. In that case, they wouldn’t need another spin endorsement.
Why would you get around that requirement by being a CFII?

Are spins as bad as youtube makes them seem?

I did spins with an aerobatic pilot. I've now been upside down 3 to 4 dozen times. Spins are like stalls, once you understand them, not scary in the slightest.

No, they're super fun. If you like rollercoasters. If you don't, then maybe it won't be fun.

Fair enough

I HATE roller coasters.
The first one was exciting for all the wrong reasons but I knew what was happening. After a couple more I was teaching through the whole thing and recovering on heading. Just takes that first step outside the comfort zone then they become fun!

Same. Hate roller coasters, but I loved spin training once I knew what was happening.

They are a ton of fun if you have a decent instructor.

Just make sure you hire a reputable instructor and you'll be fine. (S)he won't let you do anything dangerous.
Something most people don't understand about spins; there is really little increased stress on the airframe. Think about it: Both wings are stalled, so they are bearing no weight. It's disorienting for the pilot, but the plane couldn't care less.

No, but if you do 10 in a row without prior training your stomach will externalize its contents.
EliteEthos@reddit
No. It’s truly eye opening and educational. It’s an additional skill that should be taught at the PPL level IMO.
As an instructor, you absolutely can start to feel the incipient build up to a spin before it happens. I recommend spin training to everyone.

You don't need the spin training for CFII. It's only required for an airplane or glider rating on the flight instructor certificate. CFII is an instrument rating on a flight instructor certificate. If you want to later add the single or multi engine airplane rating to your flight instructor certificate, then you'll need to present the spin endorsement. Source: I have students who have taken the CFII as their CFI initial ride.
ltcterry@reddit
Really?
If CFII is OP’s initial instructor certificate there needs to be a spin endorsement in his/her logbook or show up to the checkride in a spin able airplane…

Care to provide a reg reference that says the spin endorsement is required for the INITIAL flight instructor certificate?
Your MEI initial is an airplane category rating on your flight instructor certificate and spin is therefore required per 61.183(i).
ltcterry@reddit
The Certificate is Flight Instructor. Not “CFII.” That’s just a casual shorthand.
You need spins for your initial airplane Instructor Certificate even if the rating on the back is instrument.
I did MEI - which is also not really a thing - and had to do spins in a 172 because it was my initial airplane instructor ticket. I had previously done spins in a glider for my initial instructor certificate.

I've heard of some DPEs requiring it and others not. I know a couple people who did CFII initial without one. But if you're planning on getting your CFI, why not just get the endorsement now and save yourself the potential frustration of having a DPE who says it is required?
Medium_Mind_843@reddit (OP)
thats a fair point, ill look into it
MovieEuphoric8857@reddit
Just to be clear you can’t be a CFII without being a CFI. That’s not to say you can’t get your CFII first but it would be useless
redditor0927@reddit
Disagree.
MovieEuphoric8857@reddit
My mistake
SEKS-Aviator@reddit
Spins are required.
