There has never been an authoritarian regime in history that has allowed an armed populace to stay armed. Keep that in mind. When disarming a populace becomes advantageous to the Republicans, you can bet your ass they will do it.
JohnnyBoy11@reddit
As soon as liberals start publicly arming themselves and they see an armed population as a threat, they'll pull a Reagan.
PaperbackWriter66@reddit
Pass a law defanging the ATF and expanding federal protections to gun owners in all 50 states?
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
No the Mullford act you dummy
PaperbackWriter66@reddit
Oh, Reagan voted for that as a member of a legislature, did he?
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
He signed it as governor of California
PaperbackWriter66@reddit
And which party had a majority in the legislature at the time?
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
Does it fucking matter? He signed it because all the white people were afraid of armed minorities who were standing up for their rights.
PaperbackWriter66@reddit
It does matter, because if the fucking Democrats hadn't passed the law with a veto-proof majority to begin with, Reagan never would have passed anything.
I fucking hate this anti-Reagan talking point because it's nothing but a Democratic psy-op intended to let them off the hook for being the most consistent anti-2A force in American politics for more than a century.
As president, Reagan signed the Firearm Owners Protection Act which actually lived up to the name and protected gun owners. That's more for the 2A than the Democrats have ever done in my life-time.
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
Nah fuck Reagan. He could have vetoed it, even if it was veto proof he could have done what was right. He didn’t.
Maybe he wasn’t the worst on guns but he fucked generations of Americans with his horseshit economic policies.
PaperbackWriter66@reddit
Fuck the Democrats. Reagan at least did something good for the 2A.
In addition to FOPA, Reagan appointed Scalia to SCOTUS.
What have the Democrats ever done?
Also, if the Mulford Act is so bad, how come the Democrats have never repealed it? Why? When the Democrats have had a super-majority in the California legislature and control of the Governor's Mansion for the past 48 out of 57 years since the Mulford Act was passed?
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
Because the cali democrats pass shitty gun laws. Life and politics aren’t binary, and gun laws aren’t the only important factor in governance. I can support politicians that I generally agree with but also have disagreements with because I’m an adult and am capable of making complex analysis.
Can you open carry and shoot your way to better labor laws? What about unfettered capitalism where they fuck the environment in pursuit of obscene profits? Can you fix mental health care access by whipping out an AR15?
People like you are so narrow minded focused on singular carrots the GOP dangles that you give them pass after pass for fucking the working class every chance they get. Maybe one day you’ll figure that out for yourself when they finally do something that hurts you specifically.
PaperbackWriter66@reddit
Reagan was the better alternative than the Democrats. Stop giving the actual grabbers a free pass simply because Reagan wasn't literally perfect.
And now it all makes sense. You're just a Leftist.
That's why you got a hate-boner for Reagan and you give Democrats a pass.
Motivated reasoning.
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
Yep. It’s been done before.
opanaooonana@reddit
I’ve been trying to say this. Trump is not pro gun and republicans will do whatever he says whereas with Harris (who wouldn’t have all 3 branches) is very unlikely to pass anything just like Biden wasn’t able to. I really wish democrats gave up on the AWB but they are desperate for that Bloomberg money. I hope guns become bipartisan but I’m nervous about an already wishy washy Trump who got shot with an AR.
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
Trump will do what is best for Trump. Anyone that thinks otherwise is a fucking rube
Technical_One181@reddit
That statement goes for about 99.9% of politicians though. Not some magical knowledge being bestowed.
PinballFlip@reddit
Yeah, I don’t understand these numb nuts who think that a president who wants to be a dictator is going to let them keep their guns …it’s literally never happened…. They always take the guns .
opanaooonana@reddit
“Take the guns first, do due process later”- Donald Trump
PinballFlip@reddit
Yup.. but trumpets will say oh wait he decided he’s not going to do that as if anything he says is the truth
Menhadien@reddit
Anything that will require legislation most likely won't happen. Republicans barely have a majority in the legislature.
Instead we should focus on getting the soon to be president to lift import restrictions, and other executive orders.
sirbassist83@reddit
>(R) had control of all three before and did nothing for our gun rights
and thats what i fully expect to happen again.
FloodedHoseBed@reddit
Lmao at people thinking either side cares about any of our rights. People need to get it through their heads that Trump is not the bastion of 2A freedom that they think he is
Somterink@reddit
Modern Republicans only care about the rights of corporations and billionaires. I would not be surprised to see a couple very anti 2A judges get appointed now that they have usurped power so the masses will be easier to control. Democracy died to thunderous applause yesterday.
smokeyser@reddit
No, democracy won. What you're seeing is a reflection of the American public. To quote George Carlin:
Somterink@reddit
The American public is this stupid because they were intentionally made that way to be easier to control. Do you live under a rock? The oligarchs want a nation of workers not thinkers. Just because the majority of the public is too stupid to understand they voted away their freedom doesn't mean they deserve it. You should protect the weak and vulnerable not exploit them for personal power.
smokeyser@reddit
Ahh, so everyone was a well informed genius at some point? When was that? When was the general public "made stupid"?
This is just ridiculous. Of course the nation is mostly made up of workers. It takes one person to come up with a plan, and many to carry it out. If everyone is a leader and nobody is a worker, no work gets done.
Technical_One181@reddit
And the other side doesn't either? Stop kidding yourself, we won't be seeing anti 2A judges go to the SCOUTS.
Also how did democracy die yesterday? He got both the electoral and popular votes.
RegalArt1@reddit
Impossible, musk assured me that the ATF would be disbanded instantly and he would never lie to us /s
toxic_adventure@reddit
They put in 3 2a positive justices.
Slatemanforlife@reddit
You're making some assumptions for ACB that may not be correct. I can easily see her siding with the non-2A judges on an AWB or Red Flag Laws. Then it's Roberts who is a coin flip.
Sea2Chi@reddit
Yep, I feel like pushing 2A laws hurt the Dems because it drove away moderates who care about gun rights but are otherwise socially progressive.
However, at the same time I don't think the GOP pushing gun right legislation will win them many votes, but it may be used against them in the midterms.
Yeah, it would make their base happy to codify some national laws regarding guns, but it could still hurt them with people who feel the specifics of 2A should be in the hands of the states to a certain degree.
Suburbking@reddit
Push them to do better! Dont just accept their incompetence...
Threather19@reddit
I hope Thomas and Alito retire so Trump can replace them before there is another RBG situation.
Republicans will probably lose the Senate in 2026 so they should use their new 53-seat majority now.
PaperbackWriter66@reddit
Unpopular opinion, but here goes: Thomas needs to stay on the bench for as long as possible, even if that means staying on past Trump's next term and into a (D) administration.
Losing 1 seat to a left-wing justice while keeping the 5-4 pro-2A justices is an acceptable trade-off if it means we get another 2-3 rulings written by Thomas.
We need to be honest: it is unlikely that any justice who would replace Thomas is as radical as he is on 2A issues. Roberts and Kavanaugh are a lot closer to the average conservative in the federal judiciary than Thomas is. Forcing Thomas to retire early is a self-own, because we would be dumping a radically pro-2A justice to (in all probability) replace him with another milquetoast, mildly anti-2A justice like Kavanaugh or Roberts, who would uphold AWBs if given the chance.
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
He’ll stay as long as someone keeps giving him motorhomes.
WIlf_Brim@reddit
I do as well.
I don't want to see Alito and/or Thomas pull a RBG.
burghblast@reddit
Do they have control of the house? Looks like dozens of seats are still up in the air
Threather19@reddit
They’ll keep their slimmest majority. Speaker Johnson is going to have to bring down a hammer on the crazies like MTG and Gaetz.
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
Johnson is a crazy himself lmao
dutchman76@reddit
I'd like to see them at least take suppressors and SBRs off the NFA for starters.
Stewart_Duck@reddit
This should be what we aim for. Low hanging fruit is more likely to be reached. All of us should start contacting our representatives now.
tiredoldwizard@reddit
That may be low hanging fruit but it’d be the best tasting fruit I’ve had in years.
Travy-D@reddit
These are the easiest to argue for and I'm hoping we can get enough people informing local leaders. My hearing protection matters. And I don't agree with making people felons because they want a short barrel.
mentive@reddit
Same. I'd be fine with keeping MFA for full autos (even though it's unconstitutional) if we could fkn have new / modern ones, fkn hell. So stupid.
XxcOoPeR93xX@reddit
We have 3 position FRTs and legal precedent. I'm more concerned about SBRs and suppressors
mentive@reddit
Well.... DUH!
But, is it not ridiculous that you can't obtain anything that isn't pre-ban?
XxcOoPeR93xX@reddit
Everything post ban can just have a 3 position FRT made for it.
As long as I don't have to through a multi month process and pay $200 to get a shitty aluminum can or an AR that is 15.9", I'm fine taking the tradeoff of a legal loophole for a subpar product.
Give me that boot I guess.
TheMorningDove@reddit
Nah, we need to repeal the NFA and abolish the ATF. I am right wing as fuck and Trump needed to win. But now it’s time to hold our leaders accountable and restore the Second Amendment by any means possible!
EternalMage321@reddit
Wouldn't that require a supermajority in the Senate?
masterbanana12@reddit
?
I'm more than happy with just keeping our 2nd Amendment rights. At least Kamala didn't win and take it away. Fuck all that. Unless they repeal the GCA/NFA, it's whatever.
ShriekingMuppet@reddit
Much like democrats on abortion I fully expect republicans to simply bicker and accomplish nothing especially on 2A issue’s.
ammonthenephite@reddit
Republicans never want to lose this massive carrot that drives so much voter turnout for them. They aren't going to do anything with this, instead they will only give lip service to doing something with it.
ellieket@reddit
Facts. This is what will happen.
People think they are going to repeal the NFA?!? LOL
Trump isn’t pro gun!
KaneIntent@reddit
Trump’s campaign website mentioned protecting women’s sports as one of his top priorities, but made zero mention of gun rights. Because apparently that’s what’s important, women’s sports. What a fucking joke.
anothercarguy@reddit
Dems promised to pack the supreme Court, why not just do that with 30 something NAGR lawyers?
Unlimitis@reddit
Trump, the senate, and the house never had the 2A and guns as their priority. Let's get real here. It is, and will continue to be absolutely nothing for us.
PaperbackWriter66@reddit
I'd love it if Thomas could get another 5-6 years on the bench. He's got a lot more love to give to the 2A and, to be honest, I doubt anyone who would replace him is as based on the 2nd Amendment as he is.
Even Gorsuch didn't join him in Rahimi.
wilhelmfink4@reddit
Repeal the NFA!
ouroboro76@reddit
Republicans don't give a single solitary shit about your gun rights other than to get votes. In fact, if your gun rights get in the way of other agendas they have, expect them to curtail your gun rights.
ReadySetStop333@reddit
Let's slow down for a moment and talk this over.
When RGB was replaced by ACB, we can't forget how much that shifted the ideological balance.
Gorsuch replaced Scalia, Kavanaugh replaced Kennedy, Brown Jackson replaced Breyer. But ACB was a massive change.
Dobbs wouldn't have happen 10 years ago. Hell, Bruen and Garland v. Cargill wouldn't have happened either. So things aren't in a bad direction.
Alito and Thomas need to step down during the Trump administration, if they do that, it secures the Court for a very long time.
If Trump gets the Federalist Society to get two solid picks. That's game/set/match. Hopefully Alito and Thomas are thinking about retirement.
linuxnh@reddit
FWIW, the (R) also have Governor control of a majority of the states 27/23.
unlock0@reddit
Remove suppressors from the NFA.
THUORN@reddit
Watch the republicans drag their feet as much as possible and only say and do something, the moment they no longer have the power to do so.
skylinesora@reddit
Cute, trump and his party isn’t pro gun. Nothing drastic is gonna change
causeofdeath1@reddit
Guess what? Republicans also do not care about your gun rights.
Zmantech@reddit
Trump has said he will repeal all biden eos.
That means the cases challenging frame and receiver is moot and brace ban!
ellieket@reddit
The brace ban is already over.
Zmantech@reddit
Not yet. As we've seen with the frame receiver rule scotus doesn't feel the same way as the 5c.
We need the frame receiver case moot so there's no chance of bad precedent.
sdgengineer@reddit
I will believe it when I see it....Trump has said a lot of things.
number__ten@reddit
We had an opportunity to have national CC reciprocity last time. It would be nice if that could be a thing.
robinson217@reddit
I think the only way we get national CCW is through a court decision.
XxcOoPeR93xX@reddit
Trump lost a little of my faith during the bumpstock fiasco but I'm sure we can attribute at least some of that to the Cabinet at the time.
Maybe he can make up for it, maybe not. Either way I'm just glad Kamala didn't win. I can rest somewhat easy knowing the majority of 2A is safe.
Getting rid of the NFA would be a huge win though
neutralityparty@reddit
Time to get rid of nfa and the tax stamps. A right shouldn't have a 200 dollar charge to it.
khronos127@reddit
“These guns are dangerous weapons of war that no citizen should own….. unless of course they pay us, then they clearly are good citizens!”
The tax was to prevent the poor from owning certain weapons, it’s never been there for any other purpose.
neutralityparty@reddit
Exactly. Here hoping atf gets limited. They bureaucrats need to be removed from taking are rights
mcx112@reddit
Let’s just start with disbanding the ATF
Mountain_Man_88@reddit
Hopefully they can strike down some of the unconstitutional state laws in places like California, Washington, New York, and Illinois.
TheHancock@reddit
NFA repealed, free machine gun signing bonus if you join the armed forces! Lmao
yorgee52@reddit
It’s time for belt feds and personal tactical nukes.
