Please critique my PC build! Mostly looking for ways to cut down on costs.

Hi everyone! I've recently finished doing some research and mostly used the pc build template from someone's list that looked pretty good. I wanted to keep my budget around $2,000 but I went just a little bit over. Still pretty new to pc building so can someone recommend any ways to cut down on costs?

1080p monitor for a 4080s? Doesnt seem like the ideal scenario.
donkypunchrello@reddit
If you’re trying to save on the case I’d go with the LANCOOL 207 if the GPU actually fits. Might take a little double checking but I’ve seen and heard nothing but good things about that one

Other than maybe waiting on a 9800x3d, thr build is REALLY good! My only "Pain point" which you can barely even call that is the 1080p 165 hz monitor. You have a good enough build to run either 1080p 240hz or 1440p 144 hz. You may even be able to do 4k 60hz but I don't personally recommend that.

I have a 4080S and 7950X, and most of the games run 120 fps+ on 4K on High+ settings. Idk why everyone thinks you need a 4090 for 4K gaming. You don't
Ghost1eToast1es@reddit
That's awesome!

Choose PSU which has ATX 3.1, PCIE 5.1 and 12VHPWR support. And in my opinion 4080 Super is way too good GPU for such a bad 1080p monitor. I would go for 3440 x 1440 ultrawide screen. 7800X3D is totally more than enough, so no need to pay more for 9800X3D; you won't notice any difference between those unless you play with Lowest possible settings in 1080p and even then you would see the difference only in FPS counter but not actually feel or see the difference.

Double check the board and ram compatibility. I didn't see the t create on the list for my 650 arous elite ax.
I also didn't check compatibility when I bought my parts and silicone power ram is not supported for the 7000 series cpu on the arous elite Rev 1.2. Never really though about ram not being compatible just because it's made by a different manufacture.

With your budget and intent, I'd suggest going with this build:

Look for a 750-850 watt PSU that's 80+ Platinum instead.
Get a 4060ti or 4070 instead if you're only going to be doing 1080p.
Look at MSI b650 boards, I'm fairly certain there is a cheaper one with the same features. If you get a mATX sized one you can also get a smaller case and save some money there.
Get a wired mechanical keyboard instead, and if you want something wireless for controlling media from afar you can get something way cheaper than a Logitech MX series keyboard. If you like Logitech then a G213 is a good low cost option from them.
PyxelatorXeroc@reddit
Don’t. Buy. That. Keyboard. For. Gaming. Or anything, actually.
Please. Get any wireless keyboard.

I would cut down the CPU and GPU and get a better screen. Thats like driving a Ferrari in neighborhood roads going 30mph. There is no reason to have a 3080 paired with a 1080p screen. And with the 3080 gone no reason for a 7800x3d.
I would suggest a 7600x3d, 4070ti and with the huge savings get a 1440p 165 hz 27" IPS monitor. And a better keyboard and mouse.
50% of the PC experience is in the peripherals which is how you interact with the PC. Your PC is going to be asleep running a small 1080p screen.
Capital_Lawyer6547@reddit
that keyboard is a waste of money its not even mechanical
elusive_ninja@reddit
Rly spent so much on the gps just for it to basically not be used. That’s crazy

The 9800X3D just got released today. Comments are unless the 7800X3D get super cheap its going to be to dump the 7800X3D unless price points get super low to get rid of the inventory.
Dump the 4800 Super it uses the 12VHPR setup and your PSU doesn't supply that natively. Still having issues with GPUs connections melting down. For a FHD display its way overkill.
Unless you are doing raytracing - you can sub out the 4080 Super to a 7900GRE for $550.

Things forgotten in your build are additional case fans.

Does the Super Flower Leadex III 850W 80+ Gold, 10 Years Warranty, Three-Way ECO Mode Fanless, Silent & Cooling Mode, FDB Fan, Full Modular Power Supply, Dual Over Power Protection, SF-850F14HG supply natively ?
I was looking at getting a 4080 super
3600CCH6WRX@reddit
That PSU is overkill. I have 4090 and 7800x3d, my total system wattage is never above 600watt.
tybuzz@reddit
Wait for 9800X3D in a few weeks, if only to see what 7800X3D prices and avaliability do. May be worth waiting on the 5000 series from Nvidia which is launching soon too, especially if you are looking towards the higher end of performance and cost.
1080p with a 4080 super is criminal. At least get 1440p and a better quality monitor. Otherwise, spend a lot less on a 4070 super or even lower end if you really want high fps 1080p.
I would suggest a higher quality case for such a high-end build. There isn't anything glaringly wrong with Montech, but they just look and feel cheap in person and aren't as nice to build in compared to Corsair, Fractal, NZXT, etc.
1000 watt psu is overkill. 850 would be plenty and cheaper.
ThatGingerGuy69@reddit
And here I am feeling like my 4080S isn’t fully utilized on 1440p ultrawide 😂 you are 100% right though, 1080p for a 4080S is just an egregious waste
I also have the same CPU/GPU combo and can confirm 850W is plenty of power

9800X3D in a few weeks (tomorrow)

Glad I saw this before I ordered my build list!

Nice, I have not kept up on the release date, obviously.

9800x3d and a 1440p monitor is all id change. Personally I'm big on ASRock mobos for am5 also.
avishekm21@reddit
Never pair a 4080 super with a 1080p monitor. A $200 GPU like the RX6600 is meant for that.
First make up your mind what resolution you plan to game, get a GPU accordingly. I'd recommend getting a 27 inch 1440p monitor and pairing a 4070Ti super with it. If ray tracing is not your thing, a 7900XT will do the job.
A 7600 + 4070Ti super will do the job plenty fine for 1440p unless you play extremely high refresh multiplayer titles.

To cut costs and still build an awesome PC, I would spend less on your GPU and more on your monitor and motherboard. The 4070S pairs really well with a high-refresh 1440p monitor.
Geordi14er@reddit
A 4080 with that monitor is insane. That's a 4K GPU. Save money and get a 4060 and a cheaper CPU if you want to game at 1080p. The 7800X3D is way overkill, I would go with a 7600.
If you want to stay ultra high end, you can't do it for $2k if you include monitor. A high-end monitor that will match that GPU and CPU will run you $800+. Sometihng like the Alienware OLED Ultrawide. Well worth it, IMO. It doesn't make sense to cheap out on the monitor after spending so much on the GPU and CPU.
zagyzan@reddit
Please change your monitor to a 1440P!
