Noone is suggesting testing in GPU-bottlenecked scenarios. There are plenty of games that CPU-bottleneck even at 4k. If youre testing a 9800x3D and get a GPu bottleneck at 1440p, you are testing the wrong game.
Nobody is gonna bother finding games where they get CPU bottlenecked at 1440p or 4K. Not to mention the number is gonna be really small.
Just test all games at 1080p or 720p where is guaranteed you’re gonna CPU bottlenecked. Easy as that.
Adding this here because this guy is really saying HardwareUnboxed and GamersNexus have no integrity for using clickbaity thumbnails lmfao.
His comment that he deleted himself/got removed.
Dorks? How old are you?
These channels are businesses and setup to generate the most about of clicks, therefore money. Hardware Unboxed is from Australia and yet all their pricing is in USD and product listings used in their videos are from US companies, why? because it generates more clicks.
Gamersnexus are not interested in issues that users face with a companies until there are enough complaints, why? again not enough clicks.
Silly titles and thumbnails, just to generate click shows a lack of integrity.
Those that choose Intel over AMD and vice versa have their reasons. A mature and experienced (talking decades here) tech user will know this and totally dis-miss the team read/team blue rubbish.
And yeah, you're a mega dork lmfao. You're so strange for being a reddit contrarian that you say GamersNexus and HardwareUnboxed has no integrity. HU particularly, because Steve is SO unproblematic, and you say he lacks integrity for using the world's most common currency and likely what most of his viewers use? gtfo
Oh so do HardwareUnboxed and GamersNexus lack integrity for having “RIP INTEL” in bolded red text and (for GN) a shattered intel CPU on their thumbnails?

Nobody cares about realistic scenarios. Benchmarks are made to show the max potential of a product. You DONT do that by testing a CPU at 1440p or higher.
The problem with this logic is that a product might be better on the benchmark than another product but worse on a realistic scenario, how could we know about this if nobody test it?
Because he wants to do more realistic benchmarks. 4090 at 1440p is reasonable.
Yeah technically he might be running into GPU bottlenecks in some games to some degree, but that's how it would be if you actually had that hardware
Exactly, it's good to see real world results. The LTT video did some testing at 4K high settings and there was barely any difference between the 5800X3D, 7800X3D, and 9800X3D. Something like that is useful to know if you're a 4K gamer since you'll know that there's very little reason to upgrade.
Obviously doing the 1080p low testing is important to see how much the new CPU improved in a best case scenario, but I'm not out here playing my games at 1080p low.
there is like 20 youtube videos with same 1080p DLSS ultra performance benchmarks, why do you want another one? I'm glad that atleast someone made "real world performance" video.
He tested a CPU at 1440p high settings… I get that it may be useful to explain GPU bottleneck scenarios, but he should definitely induce CPU bottlenecks when testing CPU performance.
A mixture of both is probably best - LTT did their benchmarking at 1080p low but included a minute long section of benchmarks at 1440p/4K ultra to make the point that the upgrade wouldn’t make a massive difference in most cases.
He isn't the only reviewer of 9800x3d, but it's useful to see 1440p scaling as well, it shows games where CPU still massively matter. at that resolution.
Still it would be the best to show both 1080p and 1440p.
On 1440p/4K Intel comes much closer … but no, reviewers have to benchmark on 720p lowest settings and embrace an 8 core cpu selling for 500€. If Intel releases new chips it’s automatically shit because such reviews make more clicks etc etc
The downsides this chip are just swept under the carpet … productivity benchmarks are nowhere near good but it’s “THE PERFORMANCE KING”

reviews on 4090 at 1080p
Just stop.
Fantastic_Start_2856@reddit
You’re right. CPU tests must be done in 720p
pepitobuenafe@reddit
Cpu test should be done at 144p
Fantastic_Start_2856@reddit
Technically, the lower the resolution the better but 720p is more than enough. No CPU can push a 4090 to its maximum potential at that resolution.
Strazdas1@reddit
This is wrong. Technically the higher resolution the better provided you arent GPu bottlenecked. CPU are loaded differently on different resolutions.
Darkomax@reddit
Absolutely not.
Fantastic_Start_2856@reddit
CPUs are loaded less at higher resolutions. Testing CPUs in GPU bottlenecked scenarios is stupid and illogical.
Strazdas1@reddit

Strazdas1@reddit
Yes, thats the problem, reviewers are testing CPUs as if they were GPUs, without picking the games that are right for CPU testing.

It was more of a joke than an actual believe.

Not possible lol. Show me ONE example.
Strazdas1@reddit
Enabling RT will totally switch around which CPU is better at the game as opposed to testing on min settings.
Fantastic_Start_2856@reddit
True. They still need to be tested at 720p.
Strazdas1@reddit
Only if that is required to avoid GPU bottleneck. If you can avoid GPU bottleneck at 4k, its better to test at 4k.
Fantastic_Start_2856@reddit
At 4K you’re testing the GPU, not the CPU
Strazdas1@reddit
Not if you pick the right games to test.
Fantastic_Start_2856@reddit
So basically 1-3 games? Nobody wants that. Just test at 720p
Strazdas1@reddit
more like 3 entire genres of games, but okay, test in a way that give you the least amount of information about the CPU.

Fantastic_Start_2856@reddit
Max settings at 720p gives you the max information of a CPU.

Don’t the x3d chips perform unreasonably well on geek bench compared to other benchmarks? There’s one for you
Fantastic_Start_2856@reddit
I asked for one realistic example. Nobody runs Geekbench every day. Not to mention it’s a synthetic benchmark.
That’s the problem, you CANT find one. So my argument still stands.
Strazdas1@reddit
x3D chips perform unreasonably well in scenarios that require large cache sets, but not all games require them.
szczszqweqwe@reddit
It's also a bit useless most of the time, but honestly it's nice that someone shows scenarios where 9800x3d still matters for 1440p.

if your game is bottlneckin GPU at 1440p high settings then you arent testing the right game for a CPU review.
Kagemand@reddit
It’s useful to know though so you actually can see how much the upgrade matters at the settings you will be using.
In reality not much currently, except for certain types of games.
ThankGodImBipolar@reddit
