Help me if my cpu will bottleneck me
Posted by reasonably_retarded@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 23 comments
I currently have an i5 9400f, and gt 1030 (2gb GDDR5)
I am planning to upgrade to an Rx 580 in the near future, but I'm not sure if my cpu will bottleneck my performance.
Btw I plan to use my pc for gaming
dask1@reddit
what kind of an "upgrade" is to upgrade to a GPU that got released 7-8 years ago?!?!
dont not "upgrade" for this.

Effectively OP is going from iGPU to a basic GPU. It’s going to be way better than the 1030.
It also looks like they’re in India, where a $80 RX580 is more like $120 - and $120 is about a quarter of a month’s average wage.
Calm down my friend and help people where they’re at.
dask1@reddit
i obviously dont know where he is from, he did not mention it in the post.
its just that i saw a lot of post here of people that buy old crap and they from 1st world country...
so i thought its another post of someone that dont really know and gonna get scammed...
ICastCats@reddit
Understandable! But even then, the old adage of “there’s no bad GPUs, just badly priced GPUs” applies here (okay, sometimes that price is $0 haha)
dask1@reddit
this old sentence “there’s no bad GPUs, just badly priced GPUs” meant for new GPUs.
the 4060 is a classic one.
sry, it is a bad card.
i would say a bad card is a card that u cannot really play with it modern games.
its 1 thing to just RUN the game, its another thing to be enjoyable.
i had 1660s card that if i remember right pretty much equal to this.
it was UNPLAYABLE at competitive gaming like WZ, i put it all on LOW at 720p and i sucked.
ICastCats@reddit
Nah,a 4060 you get for $50 is a great deal since it’s much better than the RX580 usually going fo r$80
Also that’s weird? I just checked, looks like you can get a comfortable 60 FPS with ‘balanced’ on Warzone 1080p and a 5900X - just looking at benchmarks on YouTube.
Remember the smaller the resolutio (and lower the detail)n, the more the CPU, not the GPU matters.

How did u deduce my country lol
ICastCats@reddit
Your one other post was in an Indian subreddit :)
reasonably_retarded@reddit (OP)
Ain't no way, nowhere is safe lol
Confident_Natural_42@reddit
A cheap one? Should be enough to run anything but the latest blockbusters. Not everyone needs everything at max to have fun.
_lefthook@reddit
I have a i5-9400 as well, and a gtx 1650. You rx580 wont generally be bottlenecked.
Might be worth looking into a slightly newer gpu if you can tho.
That gpu is a bit better than mine and you can play older games but will struggle on anything modern
reasonably_retarded@reddit (OP)
It is much MUCH better than my current setup and I will upgrade after a few years.
I am pretty new to pc gaming and I need to complete a lot of titles lol. So I will be occupied till that ig.
And btw wdym by a slightly new gpu, and can u recommend me a good one around the price range of an Rx580?
bobsim1@reddit
Whats the price of the RX580 for you. i hope youre buying used.
reasonably_retarded@reddit (OP)
A new one is around 120$, still wondering if I need to buy a used one tho
CoreyPL_@reddit
There are no new ones made anymore. If you are buying from AliExpress or similar, then at best they are more like renewed/rebranded. Be sure you won't get scammed, because there are a lot of false RX580 around. Get it from reputable seller.
reasonably_retarded@reddit (OP)
I saw one on Amazon India for about 120$ I will probably buy from a shop around me
CoreyPL_@reddit
Try to aim for 8GB model - it will have more resell value when you are done with it.
reasonably_retarded@reddit (OP)
Yea, I plan to buy the 8gb model. Heard it was a really good low-mid gpu
CoreyPL_@reddit
Yeah, it was. But always check what you can get for few $ more, because RX580 is an old and power hungry GPU (be sure your PSU can handle it and has all the necessary PCI-E power cables).
AtlQuon@reddit
It will not, the 580 is old and is not that demanding on the CPU at all.
reasonably_retarded@reddit (OP)
Ty mate
Naerven@reddit
Considering people used to pair the gtx1080ti with the i5-8400 without even thinking of the word bottleneck I believe you would be fine. Honestly it's kind of silly worrying about a bottleneck with such low tier GPUs to begin with.
reasonably_retarded@reddit (OP)
Oooo Ty for ur help
