Hypothetical: federales knock on doors and confiscates firearms
Posted by TotalRecallsABitch@reddit | preppers | View on Reddit | 86 comments
We're all preppers. I assume we all have firearms.
By default, that creates a paper trail of serial number to individual. In the event of an extreme tyrant government, meaning enforcement WILL occur, what can are you gonna do when the feds come knocking on your door asking for your Guns? Or to search your home?
Let's say you open the door and there's a dozen cops with guns to your head... I imagine all prepping goes out the window. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on situations like this.
I'm not inciting politics... this is a reality in some parts of the world.
Worth_Specific8887@reddit
I don't know a single LEO in favor of gun confiscation. I tend to prep for things that have a high probability of happening. Gun rights will not ever be an issue for me living in MO. Also, wtf you mean serial numbers create a paper trail? Ever heard of a gun show?
I do everything I can to shut down this possibility. There are far more likely scenarios to be prepping for. If you're ever surrounded with guns pointed out you, there's not a damn thing you can do about it at that point anyway.
TotalRecallsABitch@reddit (OP)
Well idk if you know this but LEO know exactly what firearms are registered to you when they run your license.
HazMatsMan@reddit
No they don't.
TotalRecallsABitch@reddit (OP)
Yes they do. It's a system called AFS
https://www.reddit.com/r/AskLE/s/omn6wvUeE0
HazMatsMan@reddit
That's California only.
TotalRecallsABitch@reddit (OP)
Irrelevant. You now know they have the ability.
hope-luminescence@reddit
In California.
This data only exists for people who have legally bought guns in California.
HazMatsMan@reddit
If your only point here is to revel in paranoia, fear porn, and conspiracy, the thread will be closed.
hope-luminescence@reddit
This only exists in California.
PissOnUserNames@reddit
Registered is a key word here freinds
Worth_Specific8887@reddit
That's completely idiotic.
zeek609@reddit
I don't know a single LEO that thinks smoking weed or pirating movies is bad but don't assume a cop is gonna put your rights above his job.
Worth_Specific8887@reddit
Holy shit. The level of unawareness you have about how law enforcement works is nearly unbelievable.
zeek609@reddit
You're a moron if you think cops are gonna ignore orders because you're a 'cool dude'.

I wouldn't let things get to the point where someone shows up at my house to collect my guns. I'd give them up long before then. Because I'm a good, compliant citizen.
Also, unrelated, but it is possible to legally buy firearms without creating a paper trail. But really... what are you gonna do with them if they're illegal to own? You can't go hunting, you can't use them for self-defense. All you can do is keep them in storage until a different regime takes power.
Or you could fight the government, I guess. But I'd personally rather be alive and able to enjoy my life than get into a gun fight with federal agents.
TotalRecallsABitch@reddit (OP)
Ever seen red dawn? The invaders killed one of the kids dads because he gave them rifles and ammo in the beginning. "Helping the resistance" and they mentioned that the lost inventory was the red flag
HazMatsMan@reddit
Your first mistake is taking a work of fiction and assigning real world significance to it.
premar16@reddit
Not afraid of this. Preppers are not the only ones who have guns. People have been saying for decades "they are going to take your guns" it hasn't happened
PTSD-4-OIF-OEF@reddit
Why even answer the door in the first place?
OnTheEdgeOfFreedom@reddit
OP has some wild hypothetical tyrannical government in mind, and the odd fantasy that such people are going to knock on doors in the first place. In reality the guys with the guns pointed at your head are in your bedroom waking you up, or they flooded your house with teargas by way of saying hello.
But if they do knock on the door and you don't answer, well, I guess you didn't need that door anyway since you aren't even home and they have a job to do.
OnTheEdgeOfFreedom@reddit
We don't all have guns; that's an absurd statement.
And "enforcement WILL occur" isn't a mark of a tyrannical government. It's a mark of a functioning state. A government that passes laws and doesn't enforce them has problems.
In the US the situation you describe is beyond illegal; the settled state of law last I checked was that emergency personal (not specifically feds) can require you to surrender guns as a condition of escorting you to shelter. Otherwise no. This was settled after police (not feds) went overboard on weapon confiscation after Katrina.
I get that there are concerns about authoritarianism in the US but we're a long, long way from general federal confiscation.
There are some other countries where if they come for your guns and you say anything but "sure!" they'll be digging a hole for you next. And in other countries the situation wouldn't come up at all because you can't legally own guns; if you have them anyway then yeah they're coming for them and they are going to win.
Your question doesn't really make a lot of sense. If you're in a country where there's an extreme tyrant government forming, I recommend you leave. You'd have problems bigger than your pew-pews. In other places this is a non-issue because either you can't have guns or they don't really care if you do, within reasonable limits. So what are you really after here?
Chief7064@reddit
Paper trail?
mad_method_man@reddit
not a gun owner, but this isnt unheard of in america, especially rural areas where access to legal support is lacking (both distance and financially)
get a lawyer, have cameras, get a receipt from the cops of the confiscation, have a copy of your paperwork, etc. you may not get your guns back, but maybe you can make a lawsuit
NorseGlas@reddit
Buy your firearms from private citizens instead of licensed dealers and there is no paper trail.
Gun shows are an easy way to accomplish this.
Spnszurp@reddit
plenty of websites also facilitate the sale of private firearms also. you can look up privately owned firearms in your area, hit them up and meet them in a food lion parking lot and pay with cash.
Holiday_Albatross441@reddit
I don't know where you live, but Trudeau is still trying to figure out how to confiscate 80,000 AR-15s from law-abiding Canadians after nearly five years of trying and when he knows exactly which law-abiding Canadians own them.
If it can't be done in Canada, there's no way it's going to happen in the US.
TotalRecallsABitch@reddit (OP)
that's reassuring
LivingRefrigerator72@reddit
In what part of the world does this happen?
TotalRecallsABitch@reddit (OP)
New orleans during Katrina
Holiday_Albatross441@reddit
There was also some disaster in Canada where the Mounties confiscated guns from empty houses. But again they were empty, not occupied.
zeek609@reddit
UK, NZ, AUS, Germany and a few others
Virtual-Feature-9747@reddit
This is essentially true.
zeek609@reddit
Are you not familiar with all the blanket weapon bans that have been enacted over the last decade or two across several countries?
Virtual-Feature-9747@reddit
I'm agreeing with you in general. What's your point?
Yes, there are have been weapon bans and weapon buy backs (confiscation)... but not really the way the OP depicts.
zeek609@reddit
I responded to somebody else and then they deleted their comments. This wasn't directed at you.
shikkonin@reddit
Lol, wtf.
tianavitoli@reddit
no.
what?
i said no
why not?
i don't want to
but i've got a gun
i don't care
but that doesn't make any sense?
too bad!
PissOnUserNames@reddit
3d printer go brrrr
TotalRecallsABitch@reddit (OP)
Good idea 👍
Ok_Cartographer516@reddit
Don't answer the door, know the signs of tyrannical takeover and dissappear before you have to deal with it, keep your weapons and ammo in a secure location out of your house, have landmines, c4, ieds buried in your yard all on one detonation switch, work for the government, comply, burn your own house down when they get there, live in a underground cave avoiding everyone, there's all kinds of things you can do
preppers-ModTeam@reddit
Your comment has been removed because it involves discussion and promotion of illegal violent activity. Discussions about justifiable self-defense are generally permitted provided they violate no other rules and remain hypothetical, but planting IEDs or other booby traps with the goal of harming others is illegal in nearly all jurisdictions, does not constitute justifiable self-defense because of the high risk of injuring or killing people or animals who do not pose an imminent threat, and is therefore not appropriate for this subreddit. Feel free to contact the moderators if you would like clarification on the removal reason.

I lost all my guns in a boating accident
Farmvillacampagna@reddit
Same here. 😊
HazMatsMan@reddit
There is plenty of freely-available information available via google and youtube on how to handle situations like this in the United States. Such as:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1kOOv5yrzM
If you're still concerned, retain and talk to an attorney about how to handle situations like this because we are not going to get into hypothetical discussions involving use of force against US government agents. If you're in another country, sorry but that's beyond the scope of this subreddit. We don't talk guerilla warfare here.

Greetings, Fed. Gargle my ballsack
StarkAndRobotic@reddit
That’s why I use my fists for all combat. Can’t legally disarm me.
Virtual-Feature-9747@reddit
Didn't Negan threaten to cut off Rick's hands in the Walking Dead? That would make any kind of combat pretty challenging.
StarkAndRobotic@reddit
Technically that would be “unhanding” Rick which was what they wanted. One can still fight without hands like Merl.
exploringtheworld797@reddit
Don’t answer door if they don’t have a warrant.
Virtual-Feature-9747@reddit
Good advice in general. But in this hypothetical scenario, I think it wouldn't do you any good.
exploringtheworld797@reddit
In an extreme tyrannical government there’s only one answer.
AZULDEFILER@reddit
See: Election. That possibility just disappeared.
zeek609@reddit
Do you honestly believe there's a single politician in power right now that gives a damn about the average man's right to bear arms?
If so I've got a bridge to sell you...
ThrowawayFuckYourMom@reddit
A liberal from New York is who you put your faith in to keep your guns safe? Like Bumpstocks, they are goners
JamesSmith1200@reddit
If the Fred’s are coming to your house to take your weapons, they won’t be knocking on your door.
zeek609@reddit
Damn that Fred
masterbanana12@reddit
Well I live on a ranch. You can set traps. If you're gonna die, do it in style.
galleyturd@reddit
I'm not getting my family ruby ridged they come knocking they can have them i guess. The feds got man power
Virtual-Feature-9747@reddit
I don't know what answer you expect with a scenario like "a dozen cops with guns to your head"... I mean, if you want to stand on principle and go down shooting in a blaze of glory, go for it. My life and more importantly, the lives of my family who depend on me is always my primary concern. If I'm alone in the world then maybe this is the hill I will die on.
You aren't going to be able to talk your way out of it and any kind of fight is going to end in your death. So you just comply with whatever they want under the threat of force. Maybe try to win something in court or under a new regime. Live to fight another day.
The only mitigation strategy here would be guns buried in the backyard. Note that buried guns are useless. When you retrieve them, they are susceptible to confiscation and you have additional charges. If you were to actually USE them, that would be the end of you and your guns.
ST-2x@reddit
That boating accident was terrible, you won’t believe what happened.
thatchillaxdude@reddit
Well, we just bought ourselves four more years.

New-Row-3679@reddit
Nice try fed.
and-i-feel-fine@reddit
You put down your guns, put up your hands, and submit to lawful authority.
There's a simple trick to avoid the cops taking your illegal guns. It's called "don't own illegal guns".
irish-riviera@reddit
You totally missed the point. Tyrannical government is coming for your legal guns is what the guy meant.
shikkonin@reddit
They don't, because they can't. Legally.
WasteMenu78@reddit
Unable to compute. Beep boop
zeek609@reddit
This is giving me strong "I'll show you where the Jews are Mr Hitler" vibes...
biggerdaddio@reddit
under this presidency, they are going to arm your children with guns, so when the school shooter arrives he is dealt with in a timely manner instead the uvalde police hiding like cowards. guns teach people respect. its the reason we launched a nuclear missile today.
ChueyBallz68@reddit
Dude Harris lost, we’re good now
DiligentBee5663@reddit
trump banned bump stocks lol
Andycraft999@reddit
Better that than “mandatory gun buybacks”
DiligentBee5663@reddit
Well the reality is we got a bump stock ban under trump and all Biden did was make background checks more comprehensive for buyers under 21. cope all you want.
Decent-Finish-2585@reddit
How about those turnaround times on NFA items also?

I would contact my attorney and tell him in detail about the situation after reaching out to all my friends that I know have an arsenal to give them the heads up. Im not going to over react and get myself thrown in prison or killed
Spectres_N7@reddit
Highly doubt that Law Enforcement officers (federales) of Mexico will come to the United States of America, knock on the doors of residents' home all across the USA and demand their guns. You should really turn off the TV and all social media for at least Two Weeks.
ThisIsAbuse@reddit
Yes we are, no we don't.
I am more worried about them taking my daughter away.
PaleInvestment3507@reddit
Not today glowie.
