Qantas Boeing 707

Hi everyone, I was going to Melbourne from Gold Coast Airport on 16 September 2024 when I saw a Qantas Boeing 707 land. I checked online if it was still flying and it said it was retired in 1979. I didn't have fr24 at the time nor an image of it at the airport though. Is there any information about the Qantas Boeing 707 still flying around?

Whats up with the #4 engine and #2 engine having a different pylon than the #1 engine?

They're called turbocompressors, those kept the cabin pressurized. Somewhat like a premature PACK system if you name it.
budoucnost@reddit
so engines #2 and #4 pressurize the cabin, but not engine #1?

It looks like a big Tylenol!

You didn't see a Qantas 707 in the air because there are none. Qantas however does have a 737-800 in that paint scheme.

Yeah it could have just been that because the jets didn't look like the ones on the 707

Retro Roo II no more it seems https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/farewell-retro-roo-ii/ going back to a more standard paint scheme. Flown on it a couple of times.

Yep, the paint was flaking off so it was due for a repaint

A super star of one of my favorite Tintin stories. Herge's aircraft drawings were fantastic.

You saw what ?!

It was probably John Travolta’s plane! It’s the only famous Qantas 707 I know.
Boeing 707-138, registration N707JT

It's not flying at the moment, JT has donated it to a museum in Australia called HARS. They're working to get it airworthy to get it to Australia

Fun fact: Qantas' 707s were 10 feet shorter than the other -100s to improve range. They were designated the 707-138 (38 being Qantas' customer code) and Boeing delivered 7 of the unique variant.
