WTF. Toys R Us still exists as a stand alone store...in Malaysia!

Why can't we keep the good stuff?
ChrisIsChill@reddit
It exists in Canada too.
WishieWashie12@reddit
TRU International Co, was not part of the TRU bankruptcy in the US. They never went away.
In some areas, small TRU sections are opening inside Macys Department Stores.
MungoJennie@reddit
Where in Canada? I really want to go, and that’s a lot closer than Malaysia!
Whatatimetobealive83@reddit
They’re all over up here. I live in a small-mid sized canadian city and we a have a toy r us that is the size of a grocery store.
MungoJennie@reddit
Wow—I really miss when we had that around here.
NumbersNumbers111@reddit
All over. It depends what state you live in.
MungoJennie@reddit
I’m in south central PA.
StillhasaWiiU@reddit
most malls have one
MungoJennie@reddit
That’s so cool. Our mall is sad and empty. I think all it has left is a Burlington, a Spencer’s, a couple of low-budget cell providers, a Chinese “massage” place, maybe a hair place, and (kinda ironically) the best pizza place in town.
superschaap81@reddit
Langley, BC, still has one. WIllowbrook Mall.
joecarter93@reddit
Most mid-sized and large cities have at least one. Their prices in Canada didn’t use to be that bad and they had decent sales, but since the American chain closed I’ve noticed that their prices have gone up a fair amount.
icebeancone@reddit
There's 5 of them in Ottawa
phendranacat@reddit
Yeah, a bunch here in Edmonton too.
Dan61684@reddit
Calgary
3kidsnomoney---@reddit
It's still a chain here... there are two within a twenty-minute drive in my suburban Ontario area.
JoshDunkley@reddit
We have one in Kitchener, but I believe it's still a chain across canada (or at least ontario) and online.
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
I visited one at a mall in Vancouver earlier this year. It was freaking cool. It was an absolute mess, but very busy. They also sell records there!
TerraTracker@reddit
There’s at least one in Kuwait City too. I forget which mall…
thugdaddyxtopher@reddit
There is a two story Toys R Us at the American Dream Mall in New Jersey.
SadAcanthocephala521@reddit
There is one here in Edmonton, I drive by it often, was surprised when I stopped in a few months back and they had vinyl records for sale.
showboat46@reddit
Exists in Germany as well
SweetCosmicPope@reddit
They just opened one up at the outlet mall in San Marcos, TX I think last week. I'll be out that way in a few months (not just for the TRU, but when in Rome...)
CheesyRomantic@reddit
Yup. I know there’s a Toys R Us in Anjou, Laval, LaSalle (province of Qc).
I don’t know how many more we have, but those are 3 I’ve been to.
TraditionalTackle1@reddit
They just opened one at a mall in the suburbs of Chicago
BreckyMcGee@reddit
There were some in Dubai
mrspelunx@reddit
🥲
jessek@reddit
Australia still has K-Mart but it’s a different company
2099AD@reddit
Yup! Toys R Us was only bankrupted in the US, UK and Australia, thanks to private equity firm Bain Capital, the same company that bankrupted Kay-Bee Toys.
TRU have been international all along, though. And the toy displays in Macy's department stores are TRU-branded
maxpowerdj@reddit
If you're close to Buffalo/Niagara Falls, NY area, there's one 15 minutes from the border in St. Catherine in Canada. It was awesome to go there.
LtLemur@reddit
Chicago apparently just opened one downtown
logical-ish@reddit
Can't help thinking of the scene in the Blues Brothers where they drive through a mall and a Toys R Us
xprovince@reddit
There's one a town over from me. Love the Lego section
opelaceles@reddit
TIL that Toys R Us no longer exists as its own store in the US. Sorry for you guys. :(
MungoJennie@reddit
The last one around me in PA closed in 2018. It was really sad because it was such a huge part of my childhood.
Nadathug@reddit
Not only does Japan still have multiple Toys R Us locations, they also still have Tower Records there.
-Bk7@reddit
Hold my beer, I'm getting on a plane to Japan.
I used to use public transportation but hated the rush hour crush so I would go into tower records and listen to whatever cds they had plugged into the headphones to wait for a chiller comute. Sometimes would stay and listen to whole albums and bought many I would never have thought to. I love the ease of digital media nowadays but yearn for the times of old
MungoJennie@reddit
Hmmm…always wanted to go to Japan, too.
Ssladybug@reddit
I found a Tower Records in Dublin!
clevelandexile@reddit
Toys R Us was always profitable, that never the issue. The problem was that the business had been mortgaged to the hilt by whatever capital group last acquired them and they couldn’t continue to service the debt. The entire toy industry in the US has been devastated as a result.
Holiday_Resort2858@reddit
Portugal too. It's 5 mins from me.
KnowledgeAfraid2917@reddit
We still have them in Australia as well.
Pavlover2022@reddit
AFAIK they're owned by a new company, and the name is just an online store now? The stores (in NSW anyway) closed about 5 years ago.
KnowledgeAfraid2917@reddit
We still have a brick and mortar store in Adelaide.
I do believe that Toys'R'Us (Australia) was either a separate entity (and therefore protected) or was bought by a new company when the parent one went into liquidation... but it certainly didn't come out entirely unscathed, that's for sure!
KnowledgeAfraid2917@reddit
There's one in Adelaide - it's an overpriced store with none of the charm that it used to have - but it still exists!
dingo7055@reddit
Waaat? Not in WA
TwistingEcho@reddit
We do?!
gentlemanjsh@reddit
One had its grand opening the week in an outlet mall in San Marcos, TX, a city on IH35 between Austin and San Antonio.
Japaneseoppailover@reddit
It also exists in Japan.
Confident-Sound-4358@reddit
Toys r Us store came back to the Mall of America this year.
FromBoomBapToTrap@reddit
I was just there today—in Canada.
MyNameCannotBeSpoken@reddit (OP)
Are there walls of video games to choose from?
And rows of RC cars?
LegoFootPain@reddit
Yes.
It was right there all along. 😆
this_knee@reddit
And in some places in Japan.
tortical@reddit
There’s one in my local mall.
ken830@reddit
Just took my kids to several Toys "R" Us stores when we were vacationing in Hong Kong this summer.
Truth_Seeker963@reddit
And Canada.
Vegskipxx@reddit
South Africa still has Toys R Us
dz1087@reddit
I saw one yesterday at DFW. Tiny little store. In A terminal.
PJL80@reddit
Well, here is some potential good news!

MyNameCannotBeSpoken@reddit (OP)
That's great news
