With this election happening in a politically divided country, it's important to remember now more than ever...

Stay out of the left fucking lane unless you're passing
hooligan-6318@reddit
65 ¾ is not "passing"
Ok-Salamander565@reddit
I do the golden rule of 70. 70 in a 65, 70 in a 55, 70 in a construction area with no workers
Eidolon82@reddit
I see the bull hauler has entered the chat.
Ok-Salamander565@reddit
No bull hauler here. Just a man on a bull run to deliver beer

As long as you're in the right lane
Contemplatetheveiled@reddit
I'm sorry driver, I can no longer support the right line
D3V1L5_4DV0C4T3@reddit
Great message, except most of the dumbasses not passing in the left lane are foreigners without cb's....
voyerruss@reddit
More importantly, what will happen to freight rates?
NeoAcario@reddit
With tariffs, consumer prices go up, so they buy less of what they don’t need.… I’m sure you can figure the rest.
ItsNadaTooma@reddit
Conversely, more product is made, mined, drilled, and built in the U.S. due to said tariffs, wages go up once there are more jobs and fewer illegal workers and, resulting increased disposable income as a result of this coupled with lower taxes. Just because you've gotten used to eating shit sandwiches doesn't mean that's the permanent menu.
Warofminds@reddit
U must have watched some nice propaganda videos
Living-Law-6918@reddit
How the hell is that propaganda. You can literally watch it happen
Warofminds@reddit
Read history. This issnt some new idea
Living-Law-6918@reddit
Exactly! If you have some actual evidence to share I'll wait..
Warofminds@reddit
Increased Prices: • Consumer Impact: The act raised U.S. tariffs on over 20,000 imported goods to record levels. This led to higher prices for consumers on a wide range of products, as imported goods became more expensive. • Business Costs: Domestic companies that relied on imported raw materials faced increased production costs, which were often passed on to consumers.
Ineffectiveness: • Global Retaliation: Other countries retaliated by imposing their own tariffs on American goods, leading to a significant decline in international trade. • Economic Downturn: Rather than protecting the U.S. economy during the Great Depression, the tariffs exacerbated economic conditions by stifling trade and contributing to a deeper global recession.
Increased Prices: • Higher Consumer Costs: Tariffs on Chinese imports led to increased prices for American consumers on goods like electronics, clothing, and household items. • Study Findings: Research by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York estimated that the average American household incurred hundreds of dollars in additional costs annually due to these tariffs.
Ineffectiveness: • Trade Deficit Persistence: Despite the tariffs, the U.S. trade deficit with China did not significantly decrease. • Economic Uncertainty: The tariffs created uncertainty for businesses, disrupting supply chains and delaying investment decisions without securing substantial changes in Chinese trade practices.
Increased Prices: • Cost to Manufacturers: U.S. manufacturers that use steel and aluminum faced higher input costs, which led to increased prices for products like cars and appliances. • Consumer Impact: The added costs were often transferred to consumers, resulting in higher prices for finished goods.
Ineffectiveness: • Job Losses: While the tariffs aimed to protect domestic steel and aluminum industries, studies showed that job losses in manufacturing sectors that use these metals outweighed any employment gains in metal production. • Limited Industry Revival: The domestic industries did not experience a significant long-term revival, partly due to global overcapacity and technological changes reducing the need for labor.
Increased Prices: • Food Costs: The Corn Laws imposed high tariffs on imported grain, keeping bread and other staple foods expensive for British consumers, particularly affecting the poor. • Inflationary Pressure: Elevated food prices contributed to overall inflation, reducing the purchasing power of wages.
Ineffectiveness: • Economic Distortion: The laws protected landowners’ interests at the expense of broader economic growth, hindering industrial development by limiting consumers’ ability to spend on other goods. • Social Unrest: Widespread dissatisfaction with high food prices led to protests and was a factor in civil disturbances like the Peterloo Massacre.
Increased Prices: • Vehicle Costs: In retaliation for European tariffs on U.S. chicken, the U.S. imposed a 25% tariff on imported light trucks. This led to higher prices for consumers and less competition in the truck market. • Limited Choices: The tariff effectively kept many foreign-made trucks out of the U.S. market, reducing options for consumers.
Ineffectiveness: • Ongoing Trade Issues: The tariff did not resolve the underlying trade disputes and has remained in place for decades, becoming a point of contention in trade negotiations. • Market Distortion: The long-term protectionism benefited certain domestic automakers but may have stifled innovation and efficiency due to reduced competition.
Conclusion
These historical instances demonstrate that tariffs often lead to higher prices for consumers and can have unintended negative consequences on the broader economy. While intended to protect domestic industries or address trade imbalances, tariffs frequently result in: • Retaliatory Measures: Other countries may respond with their own tariffs, leading to a decline in international trade. • Economic Inefficiencies: Protected industries may have less incentive to innovate or improve efficiency. • Consumer Burden: Higher prices reduce consumers’ purchasing power, potentially slowing economic growth.
Economic Theory Support: • Law of Supply and Demand: Tariffs reduce the supply of imported goods, leading to higher prices. • Deadweight Loss: Tariffs create inefficiencies in the market, resulting in a loss of economic welfare that is not offset by gains elsewhere.

And real wages went up on average 7% under Trump. Average gasoline price was 1.89. Cost of energy was 20% less. Groceries were 30% cheaper. So I'd take the tarrifs all day and still have more money in my pocket. Biden kept almost 100% of Trumps tarrifs by the way.
Warofminds@reddit
Groceries were 30 % cheaper before there was a world wide pandemic that lead to a supply issue and an increase in the money supply bc of the stimulus and QE, yeah what’s your point? JPow has more control over inflation than any president and gas is 2.23 rn where I am , and even besides that prices are determined by OPEC who artificially lowers the supply , we still are the number 1 exporter of oil under Biden . And real wages are still up 3% even with the covid pandemic caused inflation , nominally like 25%
LadyTrucker23@reddit
Seems like you just negated your own argument. If inflation was up 25%, but wages only rose 3%, you still have 22% of basic living expense that exceeds income.
Living-Law-6918@reddit
My point is the country has spoken. Recognize!
GumbysDonkey@reddit
We haven't seen a yearly avg for gas that low since 2005. Hurricane Katrina turned that shit upside down and it's been that way since.
I'm glad you got gas one time for 1.89 when Trump was in office. I got gas for 1.776 at Sheetz on July 4th when Biden was in office. Guess we'll just make that one day of cheap gas count for the entire year.
Living-Law-6918@reddit
You wish
GumbysDonkey@reddit
Are you dumb as fuck on purpose? Pretty easy to look up the avg cost of a gallon of gas.
Living-Law-6918@reddit
Look up yahoo finance. Bidens average gas prices were 40% higher than Trumps. There's more than just the president at play in gas prices though so neither can take full credit or blame but policy definitely helps
Living-Law-6918@reddit
And I dont try to insult your intelligence because you disagree like you tried for some reason, I'll let you do that for yourself.
GumbysDonkey@reddit
You told someone to come up with facts and you would believe them. Then you got called out on your lie and false information and then tried to divert it towards something else.
I'll say it again, the last time the avg cost of a gallon of gas was below 1.89 was in 2005 before Katrina. Nearly 2 decades ago.
Living-Law-6918@reddit
I paid 1.89 for a while. I don't know what they were in California or other places but I know they're much more expensive. Obviously, unless your stupid, you know that gas prices are not the same everywhere
GumbysDonkey@reddit
Ok then I paid 1.776/gal on July 4th under Biden. We'll use that one day for the yearly average. That's how this works according to you.
FWD_to_twin_turbo@reddit
Your optimism is both admirable and misguided.
Higher cost to import doesn't mean more local production, it just means more ways for companies to cut corners to retain profit margins.
Fewer illegal workers is a pipe dream, construction would cease because of the miniscule amount of americans wanting to enter those fields nowadays, they'd be short staffed as fuck.
Lower taxes with higher tariffs means "pay now, not later" , it also would fuck over our export economy extensively as countries impose retaliation tarriffs. In the end, the consumer pays.
There will be no higher load demand in the near future, now we're entering a term of seriously volatile market speculation, which means fewer goods at lower cost.
Just because you're delusional doesn't mean you're great at economics, truckers were fucked no matter what the outcome of this election was.

Except that literally almost every single economics expert in the country has predicted the exact opposite and it takes decades for an industry to return.

VIVOffical@reddit
You must be from my city
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
I refuse to live in a city lol.
Gorgon_rampsy@reddit
I live in a city it's all about staying away from downtown for me personally I won't go down there unless I take an Uber or cab absolutely no parking anywhere and the streets are so confusing. Other than downtown it's like a small town just homes and shopping centers and a little traffic sometimes backing up from downtown.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
And that's fine. I need elbow room though. I need to be able to walk out in my front or back porch and pee off the steps and nobody that doesn't live with me even have the opportunity to see. I need to be able to shoot a gun at a target i set up and the neighbors not even notice much less care. And then there's all the chickens, goats, turkeys, and cow that I raise. Can't do that in the city limits.
Gorgon_rampsy@reddit
Yea ill used to live in the country it was nice I was 11 so I never really got to drive but I'm sure it would have been nice.
AnalystAcrobatic1709@reddit
The fuck? Where do you live then? Fucking international waters?

In the country.
VIVOffical@reddit
Me too 🤫
But I did go to a city near me over the weekend and they drive just like that. Wild.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
But what city tho? I see it all the time. Have even had cops do it on multiple occasions. One got so close to hitting me I called his department and saw a Facebook post about it from them a few days later.

When do I make turn? Now? Okay good luck everybody else!!!

I will stop doing that when you stop speeding up when I go to pass, and you slow down to let me over for someone on the shoulder instead of speeding up.
