ULPT: Returning Different Shoes than what i originally bought

I bought a pair of shoes from stock x but in a color i ended up not liking. i then went to journeys and found a pair there that i actually liked. stock x would not let me return the shoes because i did not make the order with an account and it is pretty much past the 14 day mark at this point. my question now is would i run into a problem if i try to return the shoes that i bought from stock x to journeys? the shoes are exactly the same just in a different color and it says so on the receipt and have not been worn whatsoever.

I literally tried this and Journeys knew immediately I didn't get them from there. I think they have proprietary SKUs on the box OR exclusive labeling. Not sure. She took one look at them and said "There's weren't purchased at Journeys". So I went to every other shoe store in the mall and they all said the same thing.

did they let you keep the box? i still want to try just in case i manage to get away with it

Return and claim they were labeled wrong. Or, if thats not possible, return as if they were a gift and you want the correct color, say they were a gift. Exchange for now, and either return them later with the receipt with a different employee or at a different store with your original receipt.

I totally don't do this all the time.
Like I totally don't have an expensive heated blanket I bought at Kohl's on sale for extremely cheap, when winter rolls around I don't go buy the same blanket (they seem to sell it ever year so far) now at full price, keep the new one and put the laundered year-old blanket in the box of the new one and return it saying it doesn't work right.
I definitely do not do this with lots of others items where I can buy an exact (or almost exact) copy of the old/broken item to replace in the new box for return.
If applicable, don't look for the UPC code sticker (it might be different from the old item) and switch them out just in case they happen to check, which I've only had this happen once.

Something abt heated blankets. They are awesome. But damn if they don’t break easy.

“I’d like to return these. When I pulled them out of the box, I noticed they were the wrong color and not a perfect fit. I really need to stop buying new shoes without checking the look and fit before I go.”

I’d try it. Go in there knowing that those are the boots you bought at that store. Walk with confidence.
