ULPT Smokers, How Would You Describe Your Relationship with Cigarettes?
Posted by mallukido@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 31 comments
For those who smoke, how do you see your relationship with cigarettes? Is it comfort, escape, or just a habit? Would you call it a companion or a crutch? Curious to hear your thoughts on what keeps you coming back, or what made you finally let go. And for those who’ve quit, what finally made you let go? Would love to hear your personal stories, thoughts, and any advice you might have for others in the same boat.

My ULPT is to smoke as much as you possibly can, all the time, especially at gas stations. GTFO of this sub with whatever tf this question is man

real ULPT: if you wanna free up a seat or two on the train, stand close to your seat of choice and light up a cig. people usually get up and move to the other end of the car within 30 seconds or so. if you’re really feeling like a scumbag you can look the person dead in the eye.

How is this relevant to this sub?

Could give advice on quitting 🤷
co0p3r@reddit
And how is that an unethical tip?
Johnny_Poppyseed@reddit
Replace cigs with heroin op.

I am not sure what's more harmful, cigarette or your toxic personality

You are right, I i shouldn't have asked in this dub

I see your point. I was just curious about the personal relationship people have with smoking and what worked for those who managed to quit. I thought some might have unique or unconventional insights that could help others, even if it's not a typical 'unethical tip' in the traditional sense. Just looking for genuine advice

The biggest advice I can give as a former smoker, and it's not healthy. I would smoke a one hitter of weed out of something that looked and felt vaguely like a cig. I'd get so fucked up for like 2 weeks then it was fine ish. No more cig addiction. Replaced the oral fixation with something that made me more fucked up than a cig. Worked for me. Easier to taper off the physio of weed than nic

This guy gets it.🙏

Honestly you just should have phrased it differently to get what your asking across
mallukido@reddit (OP)
I am asking for it, whether it be ethical or unethical

What are some of the most unethical but effective ways people have used to quit smoking? ( Edit: couldn't change the heading)
Interesting-Dog78@reddit
I really enjoy smoking. I don't want to quit. I hope that later in my life I don't regret it but there are plenty of people who have smoked their entire life and never had any issues. I have great health and I don't notice it giving me problems besides the endurance of a run without breathing heavily. I have been smoking for almost 20 years now. I'm not trying to say it's a good thing and people should have this outlook. It is just how I see cigarettes. Besides the smell it makes me and my clothes have, it is my companion, helping me through one stressful situation to another depressed night. I do envy non-smokers though. I just hate how smokers are second class citizens now, I try very hard not to bother people with my smoke or smell or whatever else it is, but not all people do this and it has ruined it for us smokers that are very considerate. Anyway, good luck on quitting everyone if that is what you want in your life, It is very difficult. Last thing I will say also is that it really matters on what type of cigarettes you smoke. Menthol cigarettes are extremely bad for your health. I noticed very bad problems with my health after I smoked them for 7 years. I told myself I had to do something and switched to non menthol out of desperation and trying something different. Haven't had a problem since.
Correct-Blood9382@reddit
I smoked for about 6 years. Mostly peer pressure working in an auto shop. I still kinda want one often.
But since this is unethical tips, I replaced them with micro dosing 'tofu' Marijuana after quitting the cigs.

Nostalgia. I'm not a big fan of cigarettes. But certain situations, smells, environments want me to smoke
yomammaaaaa@reddit
I started smoking at 11 and finally quit for good at 32 because I got pregnant. I get the urge every once in a while, but the forced quitting for all those months was definitely beneficial.
AmosRid@reddit
Former 20 year smoker that started in high school. Terrible time quitting until my wife got pregnant and that finally gave me the last push. Now I can’t stand the smell of smoke and nicotine makes me a little nauseous.
I miss it about once a week, but I recognize the triggers so I just get a little sad for about 5 minutes…which ironically is about the time it takes to smoke a regular cigarette.

It’s an addiction I cannot escape. It’s compulsive and a crutch and a companion. Every time I try to stop, I want it more.
