Make sure you have comprehensive with a lower deductible for windshields if you aren't in a free windshield state.
As for collision, tbh any major collision will likely total it. Parts and labor of 70% of a $7k would be $4900ish so that's bumper, radiator support, ac components and a few other items easily. Pick a $1000 or $2000 collision deductible and if you are at fault for a collision or there isn't an AT FAULT party then that's what you would have removed from your Total Loss evaluation OR it will be your deductible for repairs.
Collision isn't something you want to use but Comprehensive is something you will likely use more.
If you hit a deer, it's comprehensive. If you swerve to avoid a deer and hit a tree, ditch, or other vehicle then it's Collision.

Thanks, I’m in Texas (not a free windshield state) so I should probably pick a $0 comprehensive deductible since it’s only $6? (Any idea why it’s so low)
Look at the collision numbers in contrast: https://ibb.co/DkdyCJ9
So you suggest a $0 comp and $2k collision?

I'm not familiar with Texas policy so I'm not sure what the minimums and the uninsured and underinsured driver stuff are.
For $6 a month COMP with $0 is worth it and the Collision being $19 for $1000 is probably the move.
I'd look into Uninsured Motorist Coverage as well because that can play a good part to If an at-fault party doesn't have coverage.
I do think accent forgiveness can be helpful For some but most people are either seldom accidents or frequent fliers.

Thanks so much! Any idea about this: This is for my dad’s (68) vehicle and he has Medicare so not choosing PIP. However, I just moved to the US and don’t have health insurance yet as I’m not working. Since I often travel with him in the car, there’s an option to get “medical pay” coverage to cover medical expenses of other passengers in the vehicle. Should I be getting this?

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you're asking for, I think you may be confused on what you are looking at. Is this your first time dealing with car insurance?
Your post is asking us to help you decide on how much coverage you need, but you posted pictures of the options on your deductible. Do you know what a deductible is?
I'm not shaming you, to be clear. The first time I shopped for insurance I was very unclear on what the hell I was looking at.

Sorry I meant how much deductible to choose for comp and collision

The insurance company will likely deny any claim you file and are also going to total your car if you’re in even the most minor fender bender. With that in mind, always buy the minimum allowable in your state and hope nothing happens. God speed.

He's asking about comprehensive/collision, not liability.
However, that's also not great advice to anyone who actually has any assets. If you wouldn't mind filing bankruptcy tomorrow, sure. If you have savings and personal property of value, minimum coverage could really fuck you if you happen to back into some guy's Rivian. Your insurance will cover $10k and tell you good luck while you get to deal with the other $40k to replace a lightbulb housing or whatever.

Depends on how much you’d want to pay out of pocket vs how much you can afford to pay on it per month. At those numbers I’d do 0$ deductible but I feel I’m missing something as to why it is so cheap.
l00t9@reddit (OP)
Could it be related to these collision coverage numbers: https://ibb.co/DkdyCJ9
Turbulent-Cod3467@reddit
Still not sure what I’m looking at
l00t9@reddit (OP)
The numbers in my OP are comp, while the link I commented with is collision.
HLef@reddit
Yeah $6/mo wtf
NovWhiskey@reddit
Based on that 0$

Any idea why it’s so less?
