I knew Casey Kasam for the New Years countdown on Nick at Nite. I learned he did radio countdowns many years later.

Casey & the Top 40 were the soundtrack of my Saturdays!

Casey

Casey Kasem, yeah. Never heard the other name.
Senior_Personality66@reddit (OP)
Rick Dees!!! And the weekly top 40eeeee!
thejunkmanadv@reddit
I think he sang Disco Duck too.
Artistic_Alps_4794@reddit
It doesn't ring a bell.

Ridiculously famous L.A. DJ, spent several decades as the morning drive guy at KIIS-FM. Has a syndicated weekly top 40 countdown and an internet radio show. Has cut a couple of comedy albums and while he was still coming up in the business, wrote and recorded a shitty disco tune called "Disco Duck".

And he was in La Bamba.

Every Sunday on the way to/from church. I hated it.

I was more of a Dr. Demento guy.
TonyNoPants@reddit
I was suppose to be but we didn't get him in NY
Senior_Personality66@reddit (OP)
We all didn’t live in the greater LA area. Just trolling a bit but I understand he was syndicated at some point, but not so much on the mainstream? Or correct me.

Fuckin’ ponderous, man! Really fuckin’ ponderous!

The voice of Shaggy.
4score-7@reddit
I really like on Sirius XM how the decades channels have some of the old MtV VJ’s on them, and a long ago am radio guy named Spyder Harrison shows up on the 70’s and Studio 54 channels pretty frequently!
arcxjo@reddit
I miss Martha Quinn though.

Downtown Julie Brown DJs on the 90s o 9. Love that she's still around.
GodlessGOD@reddit
Casey Kasem was the epitome of corniness to me as a little kid, so I used to do a funny impression mocking the way he spoke, lol.
MercutiosLament@reddit
It was a good enough voice to be the original voice actor for Shaggy (in Scooby Doo Where Are You) & Robin (in Superfriends). 😁
arcxjo@reddit
"Look, Batman! It's a letter from the Riddler! And he writes ..."
GodlessGOD@reddit
True... He had range, because his DJ voice didn't sound anything like that, lol.
threefeetofun@reddit
I listened to both at work. The clip of Casey pissed at his producer for playing an up tempo song after he had to read about a dog dying is great.
arcxjo@reddit
I want a goddamn concerted effort to come out of a song that isn't a fucking up-tempo song every time I gotta do a goddamn death dedication!
PlagueDrWily@reddit
I went to school for radio broadcasting and this clip made the rounds as an example of what mot to do. I put it on every so often when I need a chuckle.
jessek@reddit
I remember Rick Dees hosting the top 40 countdown but I wasn’t much of a top 40 fan.
pina_koala@reddit
I think it was Saturday mornings? Rick Deeeees... and the week-lee top foorrteeee
hiddenhighways@reddit
Who else remembers his cameo in Saved by the Bell? Let's all do the strain!
ven_perp@reddit
Casey Kasem was the voice of Saturday afternoons at my house as a kid. We'd watch the VHS recording of Friday Night Videos after cartoons, NWA wrestling at noon, and then outside for the rest of the day with the radio on.
