How do I talk to my manager about missing work for Autism assessments?

Hello, I've had to take some time off work recently due to be assessed for autism. The appointments usually take a couple of hours. I told my manager it was for medical testing, but now they are a bit concerned about me and have asked if I need a few days to recover. I don't want to tell them what it's for, but I need another afternoon for the final appointment. How can I ask for this, without going into detail, whilst also letting them know it's a final appointment?

"I don't feel comfortable disclosing my medical information"
"Do I need to take these days as annual leave?"
If yes: "no I don't need any recovery time"
If no: "I think I might need a day or two to recover"

Just say 'I have a medical appointment on X date. I won't need any recovery time afterwards, thank you - and it should be the last appointment for this!'

I geel.like.witj tis question they are probing you for more details which is cheeky. like others said before me, de lining recovery time with no further context is totally ok. May I ask how you got to where you are with assessments. I've looked online for myself and I am not finding any clear steps, most recommendations start with 'make.an appointment with your GP' which, as a woman, rarely leads to fruitful outcomes.

So there are 3 options for a UK assessment.
1) GP referral to your area's NHS assessor. Usually several years of waiting 2) Right to Choose. You find a private assessor that takes NHS RTC referrals and instruct your GP to refer you to them. NHS pays for the assessment usually no more than a year's wait 3) Private referral you do yourself. Will cost thousands
With the GPs you just have to keep going back for appointments until they listen.

The reality is you go private or you explain to your GP why you need an autism assessment

No? They're asking if they'll need more time off to recover.

If you have booked the day off, using annual leave, you don't have to tell anyone why you took the day off.
If you want to tell them, just say it was Dr's appointment.
You do not have to tell them it was an assessment for Autism.

"I dont need any recovery time, but thank you for asking. I do have another Drs appointment on xx of November"
lungbong@reddit
This exactly, maybe state when you'll be back "I don't need any recovery time, I'll be back in the afternoon/following day".
When I was a people manager I'd never press people for any details like that if they didn't want to share, I just want to make sure that you don't feel the need to rush back if you aren't well enough and can take your time. I also want know when to expect you so I don't book meetings/set deadlines etc. when you'd be off and be concerned if you don't make it back on the expected date and don't contact us.

Hopefully, the results will make you feel more comfortable talking about your needs more openly in the future! But yes, just explain that it's a health appointment and that there's no recovery time, but you will have a follow-up appointment. They'll be okay about it, and it's's not untruthful
