Nostalgic Playlists

Can we do a thread of our favorite throwback playlists? A couple other posts today got me inspired. This is from my, “Teenage Daydreams,” playlist. There’s some stuff I would add looking at it again, but I think it’s a pretty good reference for some major memories! Love to see others!
Prossdog@reddit
Heh. Well, if anyone is interested I have a 19 hour playlist called 90’s rock nostalgia that I play all the time. No 80’s or 2000’s allowed.
PhilosophyObvious988@reddit
Cheers mate saved it to my album.
ElectricSnowBunny@reddit
good goddamn
I don't have Spotify so I can't lift it
but oh my dude I scrolled for a LONG time just happily listening to the samples in my head for each song
Thanks for sharing!
Prossdog@reddit
My pleasure! It worked on it for quite a while 😁
ElectricSnowBunny@reddit
here is a fucking treat for doing that my guy
prince, covering creep, one time only at Coachella in 2008
Probably his 3rd most amazing live performance after the rock hof while my guitar gently weeps, and the super bowl purple rain

Prossdog@reddit
Mother of God, that was magic. I can’t believe I’ve never seen that before. Prince was truly one of a kind. Thank you for sharing!

🤗
That's some Xennial music in the best way, so glad you like!
Plus it has great audio filmed from a potato.
bluemitersaw@reddit
Ooooooooooohhhh!!!!!
Punkinpry427@reddit
micholob@reddit
i can't get it to open. damn
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Amazing. 👌
Independent-Wolf-832@reddit
Thanks for the list. It’s weird to me that people my age in person say they don’t listen to 90s or earlier music but they’re so popular on Spotify and YouTube.
Redditsaves2020@reddit
This playlist needs exactly one thing to make it perfect: More Cowbell! 🎶🔥
Keep the jams coming folks!
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Hell yeah! But now I’m obsessing over trying to think of a 90s song in my collection that heavily features cowbell… I’m pretty sure there’s a Beastie Boys track I’m not thinking of that would comply!
Redditsaves2020@reddit
I racked my brain and and best i came up with was “Live and Let Die” – Guns N' Roses (1991 cover). If you watch the video you can see the mounted cowbell on the drummers kit and occasionally hear it in the song.
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Ah! I feel like Unfinished Sympathy is a good match, regardless, and an absolute favorite I forgot!

Ok_I_Guess_Whatever@reddit
Jesus I could have made this. Thank you for including Luscious Jackson. No one remembers them.
AuntGayle@reddit
Specifically, the inclusion of Ladyfingers and not only Naked Eye ❤️
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Ladyfingers is the best one!
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
🥰
Ok_I_Guess_Whatever@reddit
And the Trick is to Keep Breathing is one of my favorite Garbage songs and NO ONE KNOWS IT.
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Yeesssss!!!!! So much YES.
Ok_I_Guess_Whatever@reddit
I was thinking about Shirley Manson today. How has Gen Z slept on her?
Opening-Reaction-511@reddit
Am I the only former teenybopper here?
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Meaning?
Opening-Reaction-511@reddit
Listener to pop music and boy bands, not sublime and Nirvana :)
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
That’s cool - I told someone else I have separate playlists for jams and like, club stuff! I love a lot of different stuff.
Sure_Tbird@reddit
Omg so many great songs
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Thanks!
Adrasteia-One@reddit
Here's mine that I made this year. There are a few tracks here that may be considered pre-xennial, but oh well.

El Scorcho all fucking day man, and didn't see that anywhere else
Pinkerton is my fav Weezer album
Adrasteia-One@reddit
Good call!
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
I need to download the Spotify app, but will definitely check it out!
Adrasteia-One@reddit
Oh, right on, sorry. I hope you enjoy the playlist!
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
No problem - I should probably have it anyway!
Physical-Name4836@reddit
Hole fucking rocks.
I hated them in the 90s because I was told to hate them. Now that I can think for myself, Live through this is a banger of an album.
Respect to Courtney Love
ElectricSnowBunny@reddit
I fucking hated Hole because of that psycho cunt and refused to listen. My dad liked them a lot (he's got great taste) and I was bitter about that.
So now that I'm 43 I can admit they fucking kick ass. That's growth lol.
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Hell yes! I don’t care who wrote it!
Calm_Net_1221@reddit
I truly appreciate this statement, and you’re definitely not alone in feeling this way!
We were taught to hate on so many female led or female lead singer bands in the 80s-90s that weren’t “poppy”, like pop was the only genre that allowed for women to take space. It used to break my heart when I was a tween girl and boys shit on Garbage (other than wanting to bang Shirley, of course). But even I was complicit in hating on Hole, and especially Courtney, just bc she was in close proximity to an event that traumatized a generation. We sucked. Let these lessons teach the next generation!!
Seldarin@reddit
Which was weird, because I liked Garbage back then, and and they weren't even in the genre I mainly listened to(thrash and death metal). But so many dudes hated them for no reason at all.
delibertine@reddit
Nostalgic? A lot of this I listen to every day lol. I don't do playlists though, I still listen to entire albums and a lot of live concerts on YouTube
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Word.
Yojimboroll@reddit
Legit
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Thank you. 🙏
ElectricSnowBunny@reddit
This is a cool idea I'd love to participate in, but unfortunately my playlists are all just a clusterfuck of tracks
I always intend to create folders for and never do, as such:
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
OMG, Cherry-Coloured Funk is one of my FAVORITES! Why isn’t it on my list? Thank you!
ElectricSnowBunny@reddit
Dude you have to check out Elizabeth Fraser by Starslinger if you haven't. Great track that samples Heaven or Las Vegas.
SmokeyOSU@reddit
Not one phish song, so sad
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
I did get into some Phish in college. I don’t think we had heard it in HS.
One_Locksmith1774@reddit
Every time I hear fall into you by Mazzy Star, I am instantly taken back to 8th grade.
graveybrains@reddit
Little fish, big fish swimming in the water
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
I blast that song. The BASS… 🫠
epidemicsaints@reddit
"Labour of Love" is so good.
"Noel Jonah and Me" by The Spinanes needs to get up in there and Better Than Ezra "Good"
"Black Metallic" Catherine Wheel
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
That Frente album is a hidden gem!
eastcoastflava13@reddit
I have one of these for the 90s and it's almost 900 tracks. Mix of alt rock, grunge, some big beat electronic, trip hop, punk, ska and britpop. Curated it over the course of 10'ish years.
It's rare that I'll add something to it nowadays, but the odd song pops up here and there.
It's my happy place, I put that bitch on shuffle and I'm transported back to being a teenager again.
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Very nice. 🤌
Tiny-Reading5982@reddit
You're missing molly 16 candles by sponge and in the blood by better than Ezra
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
I will give them a re-listen!
Far_Cut_@reddit
I've been curating my playlists for awhile. Hundreds of songs in each *

HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Let’s see… straight off, I spy Bjork, Tribe Called Quest, and Massive Attack. Yep. We could definitely hang. 😎
poorbeyondrich@reddit
No love for Toad the Wet Sprocket?
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
It’s one that I’m gonna add!
Ok_I_Guess_Whatever@reddit
In the words of Gene Belcher “they gave their magic and disappeared like toad the wet sprocket”
Deep-Interest9947@reddit
Some great songs. My favorite and under appreciated pick is bright as yellow by the innocence mission
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Such a good one that I don’t see or hear much! Wasn’t it in Empire Records?
Deep-Interest9947@reddit
Yep I know it from the soundtrack
Scary-Ad9646@reddit
Gonna save this one.
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Awesome!
Rob_Bligidy@reddit
I’m real fond of at least 70% of your list. Kudos
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Word. Thanks, buddy!
rabidturbofox@reddit
Those versions of Kiss Off and Add It Up are everything. And I forgot somehow about Canonball! Off to add it to my playlist.
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Violent Femmes is one of those groups I was turned onto by an older friend that ended up becoming a big part of my teenage soundtrack!
armyofsnarkness@reddit
We saw VF at a show in Atlanta 2 years ago and they are still fucking great. I was very pleasantly surprised that Gordon still sounds the same.
rabidturbofox@reddit
I love that! And love that for you! I haven’t been to a show in I don’t know how long. I’ll keep an eye on them, then. That sounds worth checking out!
GlitteryFab@reddit
I created a 90s Cassingles Playlist that was inspired by a post on here!
HollyCalamity@reddit (OP)
Totally gonna check this out tonight!
