I’m going to experiment with just drilling a hole in FMJ rounds and seeing the results.
PushedClock591@reddit
That’s a good idea. Just throwing out that many of the most popular hollow points have relief lines cut on the jacketing to help it expand
Unpopular_Ninja@reddit
I mean at this point with the prices they charge it’s worth the shot. I don’t see how they are justifying the manufacture cost to price at this point. And I’ve heard wayyy back I. The day people use to just literally put Xs on the bullet heads with a knife. Idk we as a community need to band together and start bullying the big manufacturers
StylesBitchley@reddit
At this point with prices they charge? You realize this is LE grade ammo? There is more to this vs bulk FMJ than just the bullet design. Low flash powder, tighter quality requirements, primer sealers, nickel cases, etc.
Across the board most all ammo prices have increased significantly versus years ago, EXCEPT 9mm law enforcement grade ammo which has somehow went down in price. Years ago this used to be a steal at 70 cent/round, when you could get it.

While I agree in large part that these cost more than FMJ, they don't cost 200% more to manufacture. And, they especially don't cost the 400% more that they charge for these same rounds in consumer 20rnd boxes (manufacturers don't like these LE packaging being sold to consumers for that reason). They charge a higher margin because they can, because they know people are willing to pay more for a round that might save their life.
Trapasaurus__flex@reddit
Not to be too pedantic but actual consumer cost is 100% more not 200% for this deal
No_Artichoke_5670@reddit
Yeah I misspoke. I meant 200% of the price, or 100% more.

47cpr for defensive ammo is extremely reasonable
Roy141@reddit
Seriously this isn't even crazy. Normal FMJ 9mm is around 25cpr, and this is 50.
55gr FMJ m193 is around 50cpr, with match grade 77gr / defensive ammo starting around $1. (Besides AAC, which is not bad but is lower velocity than others) This is very on par and reasonable pricing for defensive ammo.

Be careful shooting it, I’ve see some case separation mid barrel with those. Never shoot it out of a suppressor unless you love warranty processes.
Unpopular_Ninja@reddit
Oh god no, I’m just saying for practicing while dumping into trash or getting use to different ammo loads there is no need to spend a weeks paycheck.
DanFlashesTrufanis@reddit
Ah yes, fair.
92foxcoupe@reddit
The jacket on an FMJ bullet wraps the projectile front to back. JHP wraps back to front with the front being left open or hollow. If you drill the front of a FMJ bullet there's no jacket in the front or back of the projectile. Not sure what would happen once fired but it may not be good.

Literally only one way to find out m8 🦧

Son of a… Now I wish I hadn’t just ordered 2k American Eagle 147gr.
dad-jokes-about-you@reddit
How is American eagle? All I have been ordering lately is Speer Lawman 147g but noticed the AE ammo was about $20/case cheaper.
MaxRockatansky_MFP@reddit
Honestly I haven’t run the 147 AE before. I have been running Federal Syntech for a long time now, but I could not pass on AE at the price. I have run some 124 AE many years ago and had no complaints.

New ammo or LE trade in?
Jason1435@reddit
Is LE trade in supposed to be used ammo?
bullet_barn_ammo@reddit (OP)
LE trade is not used ammo. LE trade is when agencies switch to a new caliber or a new ammo brand.
LE trades can also be from ammo that did not meet their required specifications
This is not LE trade though, just some info
bubbathedesigner@reddit
I think sometime they have shelf life requirements: if it has not been used in X years since purchase, replace it
EffectiveBanana9391@reddit
Yes. At least previously owned by an agency rather than just sitting in a warehouse. I think I've bought trade-in 147 gr HSTs from Wild Horse.
Jason1435@reddit
Considering the QC of federal, unless there's been flood damage I can't imagine any federal HST having issues with age
EffectiveBanana9391@reddit
Mine seem to have run fine so far. It's a decent deal if you only want to buy 250 rounds or so. At 1000 you can find comparable deals on new ammo though.
bullet_barn_ammo@reddit (OP)
This is new ammunition
runnywetfart@reddit
Want to tell yall stacatto XC out the box Jammed with this ammo. Over and over. So after 50 rounds and it jammed 4-5 times i haven’t used it again since break in period and re oil. But damn was i sad and still am
Amazing-Guidance5601@reddit
Highly probable it just needed to get broken in first
runnywetfart@reddit
I’ll run it again and report back
somersp91@reddit
Yeahhhh looks like it’s time to renegotiate all these ammos prices boys!!!!!!!!
wadech@reddit
Man, I just spent a bunch of money on 5.56 and 300bo. Rerun this sale in a month, please.
thebucketmouse@reddit
Why would LE choose 147gr? In my mind that's only for subsonic/silencer use
brianstheman@reddit
But muh stopping power ;)
