I was always bothered by how poorly I was treated on the road. Then I would see these behaviors and it would remind me why.

We talk about "if you have food in your fridge, thank a trucker" as a way to demand respect, but truckers who behave like this are absolute pieces of shit who deserve none of it.

I've never fully understood the air of superiority of truckers. If you have food in the fridge it takes a lot more than just a trucker to get it there. The farmer, the harvester, the people who built irrigation infrastructure, the road builders, the people who made the boxes the food goes in, the shelf stockers, the people who feed the truckers, the cashier, etc. why do truckers ignore everyone else and claim they are the most important people in the chain? Yes, transportation is important, but so is every other step in the process, and most people work very hard without trying to put everyone else down.

Dont get me wrong, I have my CDL and I drove. I have lots if respect for drivers because I know the sacrifices that we do to stay on the road, but that doesn't give us the right to belittle others or treat the world like a dumpster.

Im about to piss some people off, but here I go.

Truckers are not overpaid, and "trucker money" isnt real unless you own the truck (in my opinion) hahaha when you calculate how much someone would get paid in OT if they worked those same 70 hours/week, you would realize that it pays less than a $20/hr job where you dont even need to do any of the sacrifices that trucking requires.

Are there special case scenarios where truckers make more money? Sure, just like you can make more than $20/hr at a regular job

Well... to begin with... there are a LOT of people who are not worth what they are being paid. They are, by definition, being overpaid. These are the fools that will step out of their truck and piss or shit in the parking lot, leave bags of trash in lot within sight of the trash can, park on the shoulder immediately before or after a ramp (sometimes within sight of a truckstop) I could go on, but we all know the common complaints. As far as your 70 hour week thing... not to split hairs, but that is 70 hours in 8 days, and even then, there are quite a few people that are so scared of taking a 34 hour reset that they run in such a way they can recap every day. In that case, they are only really working about 60 or so hours per week. Not a huge difference, but there it is. Yes, there are a lot of jobs you can make over 20/hr. BUT for a lot of drivers, those jobs require skills and training beyond what they have or can reasonably obtain. Breaking everything down by per hour is somewhat disingenuous, as MOST of the hourly jobs come with an inability to get many OT hours, or at least it is somewhat difficult. The REAL key figure is the ability of an individual that dropped out of High School, or maybe has a GED or HS diploma to obtain a job that can pay anywhere from 50k or so up to 150k. There are a LOT of people with Degrees that struggle to break 70k.

No, it's not perfect, but really MOST of the problems we face out here are created by the drivers themselves.

Sir you are very correct on everything you said. I mean 💯 correct. So with that being said….. how about all us trucks shut down for a month and you have to drive yourself to the farmers and pick up your food. We all know not every state grows everything you like. Then maybe go find a cotton field and pick your on cotton and may your own clothes. I mean hell even paper to wipe your ass you would have to figure something out. I mean all we do is sit behind a steering wheel for 11 hours a day and deal with freaking stupid ass people. Which a lot of people think we have a gravy job. Lol.”wrong”. People who are not drivers get praised a hell of a lot more than drivers. Ye we choose our profession. But all the other works at raises, home every night or day (depending on what shift they work) luncheons but us drivers don’t get all the privileges they do. So thanks driver/drivers for all you do. How about any one of the groups of people shut down for a month? How about the people at the water treatment plant shut down? I'm not trying to diminish the work that truckers do at all, what I'm saying is that everyone has a role in society, and 99% of us don't expect praise. I don't see road workers with "thank a road worker" bumper stickers. I don't see them demanding truckers thank them because they have a difficult job. My dad was a grocer when I grew up, do you think he liked getting to work at 3 am and working holidays? Do you thank the toilet cleaner every time you stop and relieve yourself? I get it, it's hard work, but all of us combined are the pillars that hold up society. Point your ire toward the ruling class, not your fellow workers. Thank you for what you do. Thank you for cleaning up after that jerk. Your work is difficult and is necessary, but so is a lot of people's work, and there is a lot of people who do not demand constant praise that your job depends on as well.

I often would purposefully park towards the back of the lot just so I could get a few extra steps in. I'm a little overweight, but I used that as an excuse to get just a touch more excersize in every day.

People who are perfectly fit yet try to park as close to the store as possible are some of the laziest fucks I've ever seen. Usually their trucks are a fucking mess as well, cause they're too busy to clean up their own shit. Its fucking sad.
