Potential_Reality300@reddit
These are great... BUT.. not 299 great.
Guava_Poppa@reddit (OP)
I'm not disagreeing. But I've looked everywhere could you recommend me a Great 2x prism new for under 300$? Serious question.
Trapasaurus__flex@reddit
I have 2, I do think they are worth $300. There’s not anything on the market comparable for under like $700 new IMO
geopede@reddit
How’s the eye relief on these relative to the 1x version?
Trapasaurus__flex@reddit
Amazing. It’s much better than a traditional riflescope and beats the crap out of acogs (or the ones I’ve used) by a mile.
I like eye relief, and hate the 3x mini prisms because I just feel so close to the optic. The 2x is far more comfortable/flexible in mounting position. You can shoot with it on a MPX/dissent/FM with the stock folded and still decently find the reticle, which is something you cannot do with anything else except the 1x microprism IME
You trade a little FOV for the eye relief, but I MUCH prefer eye relief to squeezing out a little more FOV. Being 2x it doesn’t feel “tunneled” at all.
I actually also like the Hawke 4x prism, it has great eye relief for a 4x prism and keeping a trimmed down/minimalistic look on the gun
geopede@reddit
Thanks for the detailed response. If you don’t mind another question, how’s eye relief compared to a Razor 1-6x on the 1x setting?
4x ACOGs do indeed have very short eye relief, but it’s not an issue if you use them as intended (shoot nose to charging handle). If you don’t shoot that way, you probably won’t like them.
Trapasaurus__flex@reddit
Much better eye relief than a LPVO, by quite a bit
Yea, it’s not as big a deal with 5.56 but I shoot 6.5 grendel and a bunch of other weird stuff and I hate an optic bouncing that close to my eye on traditional prisms
geopede@reddit
A Razor HD isn’t any LPVO, eye relief is one of the main reasons it’s considered a top tier optic and quickly sells out if the price gets near $1,000.
On the ACOG, have you tried one intended for a .308? I have a standard 4x and a 3.5x that’s intended for .308, the latter lets you keep your eye substantially further away. I use it on a .308 and haven’t had any issues, so I imagine it would do well on a 6.5 Grendel. The reticle would even mostly work out, those cartridges have similar flight paths.
Trapasaurus__flex@reddit
I don’t like tight eye boxes, it’s just a preference
The GLX 2x prism has better eye relief, I realize a Razor has a nice eyebox. The listing on the 2x only says 3.5 inches, but that is an extremely conservative estimate
cherts13@reddit
Just so you know, these aren't truly GLx as you're led to believe. They're the SLx equipment that just was named GLx. This doesn't have upgraded controls or the upgraded glass or the non Chinese manufacturer that comes with most other GLx lines.
This is the best 2x. You could argue that 2x is a hole in the market, but you could also argue it's just worse than a 1x and 3x, so it might be a warranted hole.
geopede@reddit
Thanks for the info! This is like the opposite of the PA Special Purchase with GLx internals in an SLx body.
And yeah, I’m not sure I see much of a point to a 2x scope if there’s any significant loss of eye relief vs. 1x. I have a 2.5x prism and it’s fine for a 9mm PCC, but it’s suboptimal for a rifle.
toddletoddle@reddit
Lowest I remember it being was $200 plus tax & shipping from PA.
Curious_George15@reddit
Where is the 7.62/.300 one at. Swear it’s been non-existent forever.
yem68420@reddit
damn they were like $179 on clearance a few months back you missed out. I have a 5.56 one and I love it.
BeerCanDan@reddit
Yup I bought my 7.62x39 model for that price, fantastic optic.
Curious_George15@reddit
Darn! Didn’t realize this. Maybe I’ll get lucky next round.
bobbydigital66@reddit
I've got one for sale on the files if you're a member there.

Sirpotatos@reddit
I could be wrong but aren't they discontinuing this optic?
EffectiveBanana9391@reddit
I'm pretty sure they are discontinued.
FuckTheKing1776@reddit
wack
Gray_side_Jedi@reddit
Discontinued awhile back
WarlockEngineer@reddit
It is discontinued, gotta go to GAFS for those
MattLoh2o@reddit
I’ve got a 7.62 one I don’t use if you’d want it. DM me

Dollar sign goes before the number, bud.
M4ndoTrooperEric@reddit
r/stupidquestion here....would putting a 3x flip magnifier in front of this make it 6x or no?
jesuriah@reddit
Yes, and you would have some WACKY parallax error.
DoctorVepr@reddit
No but behind it might 😉
d8ed@reddit
this thing only has eye relief of 3.5" so putting a mag behind it may be hard without being married to it.. might as well get a 5x at that point.. assuming a mag even works with this thing as i have no idea if it does
M4ndoTrooperEric@reddit
In front as in "between me and the optic" but your way works too
Berry_Micockiner@reddit
😂😂😂
Guava_Poppa@reddit (OP)
Sounds about right! But why not a 1-6 lpvo? It is similar in weight and price, I assume.
M4ndoTrooperEric@reddit
It was just a question
M4ndoTrooperEric@reddit
It was just a question
mreed911@reddit
I have a 3x, but 2x / 3x is perfect to me on PCC's and/or folding carbines - will get you engagement out to the distance those are designed to max out at... and not be too big up close.
jesuriah@reddit
PCC effective range is more than covered with a red dot. These just make practical shooting with a PCC more difficult.
Foolishbasterd@reddit
Which on do you rock on your PCC? I've planning on getting one for a Ruger PCC since I'm blessed with that tism. Looking for suggestions.
mreed911@reddit
1/ HuntersHD Ruby glasses with your asgitmatism prescription
2/ I have several - Spitfire Gen2 3X, Burris AR-332, PA SLX 3x
Foolishbasterd@reddit
I have heard about those glasses, they're good to go?
https://www.primaryarms.com/primary-arms-slx-1x-microprism-with-red-illuminated-acss-gemini-9mm-reticle I was looking into this micro prism.
mreed911@reddit
Yes. I'd recommend a 2x or 3x.
Foolishbasterd@reddit
I would have to find one that's a 9mm right? I see some that say 5.56/.308 and those wouldn't be rated for 9mm right?
mreed911@reddit
Rated? 9mm is less powerful than others, you’d just need to know your reticle and holdovers.
justjaybee16@reddit
I think he means precalculated for drop like the specific 5.56 and 7.62 versions.
mreed911@reddit
I agree - hence the "know your reticle and holdovers."
Foolishbasterd@reddit
I just called their tech support and got it dumbed down, I got the right micro prism picked out. Thanks for the advice!
justjaybee16@reddit
In terms of target identification, i like a 3x most of the times. You could go with something like the 3X with the Griffin Mil reticle. Zero at your desired distance and figure the drop for the reticle manually using a ballistic calculator like Strelock, or even just search google. Most 9mm out of 16" barrel drops about 10inches at 100yds. Zero at 50yds and at 100yds you're about 8.5inches low. It's not as convenient as prebuilt drop calculations, but i think the magnification is worth it.

Limited_opsec@reddit
Get the new GLx 1X, the SLx 3X orrrrrr wait for the inevitable GLx 3X.
These are fine, but they are quite a bit older, not truly GL series and $300 is a bit much. If you must have one check the used market IMO.
Simmons still fucks though, buy one of the other two I mentioned.
Adorable-Wrongdoer98@reddit
I’ve had one for years it’s held zero, quick for sub 200m engagements, decent glass, great eye relief but for $300 I can’t say this is a deal
FuckTheKing1776@reddit
I think I bought both of mine for like \~>$250
Lanered11@reddit
These were $170 last year for Black Friday. Hold brothers
I_WELCOME_VARIETY@reddit
These are great optics. Wish they were priced a little lower though. I usually buy mine used from GAFS for ~$230-250 or so. I saw a slightly salty one posted at $200 once but missed it. $300 isn't terrible for brand new though and the optic is still worth it at that price.
StrangeDrawer3992@reddit
Hey I’ve heard this term salty a few times when people are talking about optics. What does it mean?
I_WELCOME_VARIETY@reddit
Basically how much visual wear is on the item. Dents, dings, scratches, rubbed off finish or paint, etc. Not specific to optics. Works for really any gear that visibly wears with use. Also not specific to steel or rusty parts, despite the connotation with the word salt. In fact rust is usually notated separately from 'salt.'
Some people say it to mean functional wear too (like scratched lenses, rough hinges, smashed in sight hoods, etc) but most of the time it's just used as a term for cosmetic wear.
braingrenade@reddit
Salty refers to how banged/scuffed up the item is. Not necessary how used, as you could have a heavily used item, but low salt, meaning still very good condition. Little to no salt means = like new, and high/heavy salt means beat up.
As an example, when people say they are looking for a very salty scope for x price (usually lower end of the going rate), they are saying they will take a fairly banged up (but usuable) item and pay the lower end of its going rate due to the abuse.
eastlakebikerider@reddit
salt=wear/use marks. Super Salty = beat up.
redditshopping00@reddit
a couple people explained salty terminology already so I’ll just note minty fresh or crisp are all opposites of salty
JoeSicbo@reddit
$369 anywhere else.
indiglowaves@reddit
Dumb question but can I co-witness with this or does it need a riser? I have double astigmatism and ppl tell me PA prisms are best for that.
Hereforgundeals69420@reddit
If you use this with a front sight, it'll show in the picture as blurry and out of focus from how close it is, and it'll mess up the sight picture.
indiglowaves@reddit
I worded my question like an idiot and meant something else, lol sorry.
Gray_side_Jedi@reddit
Great optic, grabbed one for my CMMG MK47 SBR before they discontinued the 7.62/300 model. Tanky little thing, glass is good, and etched reticle makes the ‘stig happy.
H34vyGunn3r@reddit
Awww man I paid $350 for this a couple weeks ago.. Oh well, at least it’s good.
justatest42@reddit
Did you also catch it on sale with the $75 PAbucks?
H34vyGunn3r@reddit
lol no, I was in a hurry and didn’t do my research. Lesson learned!
