What's an album you played out back then and still enjoy now?

I don't know that I ever stopped listening to this one, but this is still amazing and in some cases is better than what's coming out now.
What album(s) did you feverishly playout back then but still stands the test of time for you today?
Quenzayne@reddit
Elastica’s self-titled debut. Hasn’t been out of regular rotation in my life since 1995.

Matchbox Twenty, self titled album. Still listen to it often.
atomsforkubrick@reddit
OK Computer and Kid A. Played these so often I’m surprised I didn’t ruin the discs. Of course I’m still a giant Radiohead fan.
MCA2142@reddit
OK Computer.
The Bends
HipHopGrandpa@reddit
Oh man, I loved Radiohead back when they were a band that played songs. The Bends was peak for me. Those jangling Gigi tar riffs on Electioneering are so good.
salledattente@reddit
Ok Computer is still my GOAT. Also my 7 year old likes it
sejenx@reddit (OP)
Am a little embarrassed I didn't think of OK Computer first this morning since it's never left my rotation, and in my opinion, is the GOAT of Radiohead albums
Sad_Confection_2669@reddit
I’m sure I’m in the minority, but it’s The Bends for me. The impact of “Just” as a song and as a music video changed me, and the rest of the album is just so listenable. Beautifully engineered.
sejenx@reddit (OP)
You're not wrong. Street Spirit (Fade Out) is that for me. And there are sooooooo many incredible songs on that album! I prefer OK Computer for the way it moves their style forward - it seamlessly transitions from unadorned guitar and more acoustic vibes to a new place within Late 90s rock.
Ok-Potato-4774@reddit
The Bends is all killer no filler. Then, Radiohead just exploded with Ok Computer and I wasn't as into them because they changed musically. I still went to see them live and they were incredible, I just didn't buy their albums.
sejenx@reddit (OP)
I can see that. I was a fan of OK Computer before I fully embraced The Bends and I think that caused me to take a different approach to them than yourself, and as a result I'd guess you did not enjoy Kid A and Amnesiac at all, no? Those two are sooo far divorced from The Bends and, especially Pablo Honey.
My love for Radiohead grew and changed with them, but I'll admit, I really don't care for much music after In Rainbows and I haven't bothered to try the new band, Smile (?)
Ok-Potato-4774@reddit
Amnesiac and Kid A were pretty good. The hype around them when they came out was ridiculous. Did like some of the songs off them here and there.

There’s others, but these are off the top of my head. In the last 10 yrs or so, my musical taste has drifted to tracks so I have playlists I really enjoy with a wide range of musical genres and styles. The cell phone changed things so much in music!

Miseducation and The Score where such incredible and unique albums and then Lauryn and Pras went so far off the deep end. At least Lauryn is like "artist crazy". How the fuck does Pras end up a Chinese spy? What?

Would be easier to answer which albums I played to death back then but dont listen to anymore and those answers are easy: Korn and Marilyn Manson
But most of the other stuff I was obsessed with I still listen to all the time.
Strange-Mouse-8710@reddit
I really don't understand this mentality some people have, that its a shock that something good is still good.
Something good does not turn bad, because its more than 1 second old, which is how some people act like it does.
PanoramicEssays@reddit
I think it’s more like our tastes sometimes change as we age, but certain albums feel like a classic forever. Also some things just don’t age well. Some of the music I loved as a kid is not for me at all anymore. Color me bad isn’t my jam anymore at all but my younger self might argue on that.
sejenx@reddit (OP)
I think you're reading something that is not there at all. My post is not intended to suggest this, not even remotely. This is a question about consistency in taste over time. It is not at all shocking, as you say, to enjoy the same things one enjoyed long ago, but in that framework, there are favorites. Are there not? Standouts, above all others?
Sorry that you have taken this to what appears to be a very negative space. You may be in that space alone here.

August and Everything After
Ok-Potato-4774@reddit
"Step out the front door like a ghost into a fog where no one notices the contrast of white on white". The first line of the first song, "Round Here", looks so clunky in writing. Still, the way Adam Duritz sings it is so poetic.

I did! I don't remember much of the artists tbh. I remember the Cardigans and Sarah.

Yes! Listening to that album in my youth was sooo formative in my musical tastes
sitnquiet@reddit
Yep I had a friend who tried to get me to listen to DM before but nothing bit until Violator... and then it opened up their whole catalogue - plus all the other Brits like The Housemartins/Beautiful South, The Cure, Erasure, The Smiths, Joy Division, Pet Shop Boys etc etc

sejenx@reddit (OP)
That's totally fair. I recall, at the time of its release it was seen as ground breaking in terms of the "genre bending" but in today's ear, it kinda sounds regular/standard, but my goodness, love her or hate her, Lauren Hill's got pipes. I almost feel like this album has some common ground with Amy Winehouse Back to Black, but imho, still slaps. Mostly. (I still hate talking tracks on albums)
