We should be able to tear a $20 bill in half to use as $10

So we'd have $20 bills for about 5 years and then it's only half-20s. The drug market could singlehandedly accomplish this, then consider things like strip clubs. I like the idea of going back to metals, that way they can be melted down back into their original value after a while.

Cash is constantly recirculated by the treasury. It doesn't last that long in circulation.

Who's stopping you?

Coin money history is going full circle for you?
PsychologicalBee1801@reddit
In Canada that works. As long as it has the full barcode. I’ve done it before on a bet
labrat420@reddit
I don't think you read the title properly
justadd_sugar@reddit
I think he did. In Canada, a 20$ bill torn in half can be used as a 10$ so long as it meets certain conditions. What doesn’t match the original post?
labrat420@reddit
Why wouldn't it still be worth $20?
PsychologicalBee1801@reddit
Both half’s are 10 each.
labrat420@reddit
That's not how it works
PsychologicalBee1801@reddit
I’ve literally done it. Goto a bank and they’ll confirm it’s not counterfeit. And give you the money
labrat420@reddit
If you have up to 50% of the bill you can get it replaced. The bank just ripped you off lol
PsychologicalBee1801@reddit
Not in Canada. If you have to 2 barcodes. To get full worth
labrat420@reddit
No you don't. Send it to bank of Canada and they'll redeem it
tag4424@reddit
That will never work - If you tear a $20 apart, one half will obviously be worth $2 while the other side will be worth $0...
DoNotEatMySoup@reddit
Well we do need some deflation in this country..
SteelWheel_8609@reddit
But on the bright side, you can just add that extra zero you have now to a $10 bill to make yourself a $100

My daughter did this when she was 5 to “make change”

or 1/20 but it's like that McDonald's coupon that you can rip easily
Ok_Cheesecake_9581@reddit
Don’t worry, pretty soon $20 will be worth $10 anyway.
ogredmenace@reddit
Or into 1/4 for a $5 and 1/20 for dollars.

Hope those cashiers are good at eyeballing measurements
gravity_kills@reddit
Just add perforations.
rasputin1@reddit
or just have a whole other bill that equals a quarter of a 20 maybe
Whitweldz@reddit
Would the bill remain the same size or would we have $20 bills the size of a sheet of paper? 🤔
gravity_kills@reddit
We already should have different sized bills to allow vision impaired folks to have an easier time telling the difference. If we switched ones over to coins, and maybe add a two dollar coin, then we have some room to play. Start with the $5 being half its current size and you land at the $20 being only twice its current size. $100 probably just needs to either go away or change shape, although it would be funny if we just had newspaper sized $100 bills.

Make all money liquid and we could just pour in however much stuff costs.
temalyen@reddit
Return to the gold standard and use liquid gold.
This hamburger costs 1/8th of an inch of gold in a test tube beaker.
Expensive-Dot-6671@reddit
Wouldn't all the 20s very quickly all become halved? At that point, why even have 20s. Just make 10s.
UncleSnowstorm@reddit
We could also, just, not use hard cash...
jasmeet_2410@reddit
I future this can happen.. We can use 4 magnetic strips to one single note...
Each strip having 1/4 value of the whole note..
And u can join them when you want...
🤪🤓

blackkluster@reddit
And connect the two 10s into 20. Would be awesome cash system

Imagine your wallet, filled with a bunch of tiny scraps of bills
veryblocky@reddit
They used to do this with coins when they were made of silver, especially Roman coins. You can find thin slivers in museums where they’ve been halved many times

I was thinking of Spanish pieces of eight, but this is probably the OG version of that.
