Had one but not in a long time. I do have a Soundesign AM/FM/cassette clock radio I still use from the early 90s.
Comfortable_Tale9722@reddit
Just turned 44. Still have mine since I was 12. GE wasn’t messing around when they made these things. Not ashamed either I still use it.
Alexcamry@reddit
Every time we reset it for daylight savings time, I have to remember to put the display on “dim”
Living_Lie_8773@reddit
My dad has a version that is slightly bigger but the numbers are blue and not red
Jessiepinkman1991@reddit
They don't make them like they used to
dhammer731@reddit
That is the most durable clock radio ever made. Still have mine at 54yrs old.
NoDiamond4584@reddit
This one is 25 years old!
Initial_Weather_9947@reddit
Got one just like it. GE knew how to make electronics back in time. Now, it’s all Made in China. Not worth a crap…
NCHikergal@reddit
54 and mine died 2 years ago.
emmajames56@reddit
I have the same one. Built to last.

My dad had one. I wish I still had it.

Indeed, my alarm from college is already broken
OtroladoD@reddit
Was just thinking that … amazing they such a cheap piece of equipment lasts so long …
runnergirl3333@reddit
Look at you with your fancy GE clock radio. I hereby thrown the gauntlet with my humble JC Penney version.
libmrduckz@reddit
oh, aren’t we posh with our tuner and brightness settings… two whole bands even… betcha get ‘tone’ and ‘volume’ knobs, too, ya’ lanky snob crust…
chickens_for_fun@reddit
Mine is decades old, probably about 30 years or so. It still works but we never use the alarm.
We are retired, but on the occasional day when we need to get up early, we set our phones' alarms.

R.I.P. GE Digital Clock Radio (1983-2009) We miss caressing your work spongy Snooze button.
mellbell63@reddit
How do you know the dates you've had your alarm clock???!!! I find that equally amusing and alarming!! 😆
BOHICAbeast@reddit
It was given to me in 7th grade by my mom so I can wake up my sleepy ass all by myself. She could not do it at the time due to her having chemotherapy early in the morning.
2009 power surge fried the poor thing. I think it would still be working today if not for that. It had a good run.
(Heh... alarming. 😆)
ImTheDude111@reddit
Mine died about 6 years ago
Complex_Activity1990@reddit
God no, get with the times.
Onewarmguy@reddit
Had that exact model for several years then decided that life was too short to wake up to that crappy quarter sized speaker and bought myself an amazing Boston Acoustics clock radio that sounds awesome, Bose eat your heart out
-sooox-@reddit
Assuming you live in Duluth, MN where I'm certain these are selling like hotcakes
mjgman420@reddit
I miss that snooze button
Fullerene000@reddit
Inheritance
bundervar@reddit
I thought this one was sooooo cool because the numbers were blue instead of red and you can wake up to the radio instead of beep beep beep beep. I will be sad if it dies.
Koumadin@reddit
dont have mine anymore but i still have my airpopper (popcorn) from the 80s and it works great
Whitey1969SC@reddit
I can still feel the shrill sound coming from that machine.
AdDisastrous6356@reddit
I think that’s the one they used at Guantanamo Bay for “ enhanced interrogation “ many a confession was given
Whitey1969SC@reddit
More effective then the “c@ckmeat sandwich” Harold and kumar almost ate
MissSara13@reddit
My brother had one and he'd snooze it like 10 times after it blaring for a minute or so. Absolutely drove me nuts!
Interesting-Fly879@reddit
My dad did the same thing! My room was down the hall and I remember yelling at him to just see the thing for 30 minutes later if he was going to snooze it so many times!
throwsomethingawayme@reddit
No amount of nostalgia can overcome that screeching banshee.
Skimmington16@reddit
Switch it to radio alarm already! Wake up to the local alternative station, haha.
TeachOfTheYear@reddit
That's the fancy one. Mine had those flipping numbers. You could hear that little click every minute and that is the reason I still sleep with blankets covering my ears to this very day.
Neat-Composer4619@reddit
Ah! That was my second clock and I like it because it was less loud than my 1 first one. This one went buzz buzz buzz. The previous one I had went bbbbbuiuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuzzzzzz.
Just one long sound louder than the buzz buzz. The only good thing about the long buzz one was that there was a tiny click half a second before the sound. And I was able to jump fast enough to jump at the foot of my bed to click snooze and turn off the alarm before the buzz.
My heart was still pumping, but my hears were safe.

I remember throwing mine multiple times. Definitely better built then the Nokia phones
purple_sangria@reddit
I threw mine every morning lol. Unfortunately, I threw it at the door one too many times or I’d probably still have it.

Early Millennial here. Whoever designed those alarm clocks made them to last. I still have mine from 30 years ago and I’m not sure how much older it is beyond that. There’s nothing from our modern era built to survive a lifetime
Groundbreaking-Good7@reddit
You could hear this thing go off about 1 minute before it actually went off ... Plus it has the least satisfying snooze button of all alarm clocks ever made 😅
HemmersGhost@reddit
I’m 52 and I’ve had mine since Junior High it still works but I haven’t used the alarm regularly since 2007.
Spear_Ritual@reddit
Those are indestructible. Your only hope is to put it in a box in the attic.
kcpirana@reddit

TrainingParty3785@reddit
I swear those fuckers clicked 2 seconds before that tortuous alarm would go off. They could take a pretty good wack that’s for sure.
Pristine-Pen-9885@reddit

DMGlowen@reddit
Mine was damaged in a move in the early 90s.

That was mine. Dimmable, sounds like a flatline. Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
cosborn001@reddit
This is the one I had. I got it from my grandpa after he passed. Sadly it quit working a few years ago.
Parking_Locksmith489@reddit
Precisely what happened to me too.
cosborn001@reddit
The dimmable light was touchy and I always had to fiddle with the knob. I used the radio alarm because the regular alarm sound was too obnoxious. I used it long enough that I could set the alarm and turn it off in the dark by touch.
OriginalKnobby@reddit
Mine too. Just died last year.
foxorhedgehog@reddit

haha i thought i was the only one. i still have my alarm clock from the 90s. it's a Philips, i can reset the time and set alarms without looking at any of the buttons, i do it in the dark, so it's just muscle memory.
Wire_Hall_Medic@reddit
That clock radio woke me up, not to music, but to some kind of news broadcast. I was groggy, and irritated because I set it so that it should be playing music, not a commercial or news, I didn't understand why they were talking about Lord of the Rings. It went on, I realized that something was going on; the "second tower" was not talking about the Two Towers.
I went into the living room, and turned on the TV. I switched it to CNN. It was chaotic, It was obvious that information wasn't clear yet. It kept switching between pictures of the Twin Towers in New York. Then it flashed a picture of the Pentagon. That's when it sank in, and there was a hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach.
My mom came downstairs, irritated that I had the TV on; we lived on the west coast, and it was early. I looked at her, and said, "we've been attacked."
We watched for a bit. Then I got ready for school.
September 11th, 2001.

Southern_Recover7748@reddit
yep. I got the same alarm clock in 1986 and it's still doing its job.
1989DiscGolfer@reddit
My alarm clock from 2004 took a crap on me. I can feel the space between the bar and edge to remind me it's set before I drift off to sleep and I don't want to learn a new alarm, plus I loathe cell phones most of the time and definitely don't want to use one for my main alarm.
So I got on eBay and found the exact same alarm that's barely ever been taken out of its box for $15. I should be good to go for another 20 years, and by that point, I'd better be long retired and not in much need of one anyway!
It's a Sony something or other.

My GE clock radio lasted from 1990 to about 2010. The only reason it stopped working is because I made the mistake of cleaning it. It was never the same after that. My wife had one at one point but I'm not sure what happened to hers. We replaced our GE clock radios with another indestructible clock radio the Sony Dream Machine. We found them separately at thrift shops for $3 or less. She found a white one and I found a grey one.

Nah, my phone plays "Three Little Birds" in a slowly increasing volume instead of startling me from sleep with the worst beeping sound in the world. Progress is very nice!

I would but for my wife.
JustAnOldRoadie@reddit
Loved that alarm clock.
Set it to wake up the kids, but forgot to tell the babysitter when I was called in for duty. When the alarm sounded, they jumped straight out of bed and ran to the kids' rooms screaming FIRE! FIRE!
My youngest was scooped up under one arm, still asleep, and the eldest was stumbling around half asleep until he said... hang on, I can't hear you over Mom's alarm.
Calmly walked over and shut it off.

Recently replaced my husband's old clock with an easy read updated version. My thoughtfulness was NOT appreciated. I didn't realize it was an actual holy relic.
nirreskeya@reddit
At the end of my senior year in college I was feeling particularly annoyed with the alarm clock and being beholden to schedules generally so I threw it out the window. It landed on a manhole cover in the middle of the grass and broke into a dozen pieces. Still worked though. I might still have it, and possibly a picture of it broken on the lawn on some old hard drive.
For the most part I've been able to live my life free of such rigid scheduling.

Waking up to “I got you babe” on the clock radio, every day for a thousand years. Groundhog Day. “On your feet maggot”, same effect, different movie.
Had several of them over the years. At the time,it seemed like it was the only type of clock radio available, they were all the same shape, with the fake brown wood grain shell. It was either that or the windup folding alarm clock that would ring until you managed to find the microscopic switch to shut it off. Smashing it would usually end up with it skittering under the bed where it would inevitably run out of spring before you could reach it. Ding ding ding … ding … … diinngg …. di…….

I had a Panasonic with a blue display and actual stereo speakers, circa 1975. The tuner was backlit and there was a "shadow" where it was always tuned to 100.3 FM. It caught COVID back in 2020 and didn't survive. It was one of the saddest things I ever had to throw away.

pullmyfinger222@reddit
My father had the same exact one. I remember because right next to it was his lamp, and after he quit smoking, he took up chewing gum. After the gum lost its flavor, he'd stick it to the base of the lamp, and after several months, he built a gum dog that was easily ten inches high and around a foot long. After some time, it collected enough dust that it looked kinda like fur. Disgusting, I know.

My phone works so much better. Rather than a jarring buzzer, I set my phone to bird calls. So I wake up more gradually. Turning off the alarm kicks off an automation routine that turns on a lamp and plays a news podcast (actually a couple). It makes for a nice way to start the morning.

I have the exact same model. I'm guessing it's about 30+ years old. Still works just fine I don't set the alarm anymore because I use my phone but it's still on my nightstand giving me the red glowing time. If this isn't a buy it for life piece I don't know what is.

Mine died about 20 years ago. Replacement can't keep time. It loses about 20 minutes a year. I just ignore it and use my phone.
OperaBunny@reddit
What is it about this clock radio that makes people nostalgic? I have one in a box in my closet. I got one as a free gift in my mid 20's from joining a credit union. It probably still works, but I used a Sony clock radio instead that still worked even when I dropped it a hundred times. Sadly the Sony clock radio reached its limit this year, but even a clock radio is on the phone now, so my little GE AM/FM clock radio will still be in the closet.
Roy_Coulee@reddit
Got one as a wedding gift.
dumbdude545@reddit
Still got one. Still works. Got it as a kid used.
fpsi_tv@reddit
That model is sooooo close to the one my childhood home had and if I found it again present day I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
MerlinsMentor@reddit
I have this exact model sitting on my nightstand. I don't use the alarm every day anymore, but it still works.
I suspect NOTHING I buy this year will last 20% as long...
Livid-Tangerine7546@reddit
Still have it, still use it!
LynnScoot@reddit
Husband has old Sony Dream machine from this era. Doesn’t want to part with it.

I still have mine, it's called the Nite Jammer and it's got a spool for your headphone cable in case you want to jam at nite
insertjokehere12345@reddit
I'm still rocking my alarm clock from 1990 or so.
Hansekins@reddit
I have that exact clock in a spare/guest bedroom. It's the first thing guests unplug when they visit so they can plug in their phone chargers. ;)

I still have mine 😂

I miss fixing mine
TheCoopX@reddit
I have that exact model.
I used to have one when I was a kid, but it got broken and tossed out. Years later, I had this strange desire to get another one. So, I did some searching online and then on ebay, and BOOM!... the screeching GE alarm is back in my possession. I was lucky to find one in really nice condition, and where the seller was willing to check to see if any of the number segments were burned out.
rrickitywrecked@reddit
I regret throwing away my white Panasonic flippy-flip alarm clock that I had as a child.

Are we going with MUSIC or ALARM?
MissKellieUk@reddit
Music- my god the noise the alarm was. Also-the volume dial always lost something and when you turns it up or down it was all crackly and angry sounding. Good times. Also- red, not such a soothing color for room lights at night
OmChi123456@reddit
Hell yeah! I wish I had kept mine. It was a reliable friend and a weekday enemy 🤣
RustedRelics@reddit
Gotta love the vintage G.E. products — built to last. We have a couple wall clocks in the house from the 1930s. Near 100 years old and still run smoothly and lose no time.
kobuta99@reddit
I have one upstairs in my guest room, along with a DVD player and an old non smart TV with the player connected with the red/white analog inputs.
Snerf42@reddit
Mine didn't survive dorm life in college, and I replaced it with a similar one made by Sony that lasted for about 25 years before it got eaten by a tornado a few years ago. Honestly if the tornado hadn't happened it would probably still be waking me up daily.
Ohshitz-@reddit
Everybody had this. Sigh
cupot13@reddit
It's the only alarm clock I've ever owned (thinking early 90s when I got it). It still plays music, but the alarm wake up to music/what I love about it started messing up a few weeks ago. I don't want to use my phone but have no other choice....unless someone knows how to fix it.
FuzzyScarf@reddit
There seems to be so many of these still around I wonder if you could find one on eBay or something.
B4USLIPN2@reddit
This is also my story, but from the 80s. I think it finally succumbed ( in the same fashion you described) after one too many sweating glasses of ice water upon it.
cupot13@reddit
I'm still in denial that it will start working again 🥹
DooDooCat@reddit
Still go one
HazySkyFire@reddit
Listened to a lot of Howard stern on that thing
c_christine@reddit
My parents still have it at their house, along with the box it came in. My mom keeps the Christmas cookie cutters in the box!
JankroCommittee@reddit
I hate the sound that clock makes with every cell of my body. Was so relieved when I realized my phone could wake me, and I could choose how it did so. That said, it did last over 40 years.
Due-Brush-530@reddit
They don't make things like they used to. When's the last time you bought something that lasted half as long?
Techchick_Somewhere@reddit
I have one I got for my 16th birthday. 🥳. Still in daily use. I don’t get replace useful things. My sewing machine is my grade 8 graduation present that was my grandmother’s Singer Genie. The old stuff lives on because it’s QUALITY!!

Calm-Opportunity5915@reddit
Why did we all own this in the 80s? I remember being about 12 (1982) and I had to have one, begged my mom for it. Listened to Casey Kasem's American Top 40 on it
Sand_Maiden@reddit
Oh my goodness!!! It would have never occurred to me how old mine is. I think I got mine in the mid-to-late 80s. It’s the same basic model and is still going strong.

It's not ancient but I still use an alarm clock. It never fails and even automatically adjusts for the dreaded time change.
bellebbwgirl@reddit
This is the stuff of my nightmares! I still don't do well with alarms going off because of this beast.
noodlin@reddit
I had the exact same one for 20 plus years growing up!
ubdumass@reddit
Wish I still had mine so I can throw it at my two teenage boys. They literally cannot (or will not?) get up on time. They will hit snooze about 10 times before we march in to drag them out of bed. Growing up, our parents never had to tell us twice about waking up on time. Gen Z is completely f’d and I don’t know how to help them.
Whitey1969SC@reddit
There was no telling twice cause it was waking up people 4 houses down.
Fwumpy@reddit
When I was a teen, I was using a coffee can as an ashtray, walked out of the room, it lit itself on fire, and I used that thing with a ring melted in the top for a couple more years! You could HIT snooze every day, and it was happy to take your abuse!
clashfan77@reddit
Ugh, my hubby still has his from his teen years. That alarm is so triggering. We finally both work hours where we don't need it, thankfully. Still works tho!
Neko_Dash@reddit
Had mine through college, and took it overseas with me when I moved abroad. The hertz cycles and FM band here are different here, so I put it away. I still have it, though and, if I ever move back to the US, I will bring it with me.
jjhart827@reddit
Had one exactly like it. It just stopped working one day about 20 years ago.
Modern alarm clocks just aren’t the same.
