What’s the one annoying flaw in a car you really love?

We all have cars we love. But nobody’s perfect. So what are things that really annoy you about a car or cars you do love? Is it how unreliable Jaguars and Alfas are but you actually would want one because they look just beautiful? Is it the underpowered engine of a car you otherwise would love to have? Or maybe the really bad gas mileage that makes it too expensive to drive on a daily basis? Let me hear your complaints!
EmergencyRace7158@reddit
I love my Huracan Evo from the design to the awesome V10 but I really hate the all touchscreen interface where I don't get physical climate and volume buttons. It's tolerable because I don't daily it but dealing with it in any car I had to use to commute or spend a lot of time in would drive me to sell it.
Far_Chocolate_8534@reddit
07-13 Tundra gauge cluster. 5 circular gauges of different sizes and pointed slightly different angles. Separated so you can only see half of them at once. Also mostly covered by the steering wheel if you have to sit higher to see over the hood.
pauldarkandhandsome@reddit
I’m a simple guy with simple taste, but I absolutely loathe that you can’t get a six-cylinder Camry or Accord. I get the focus on hybridization and MPG ratings, but turbo-charged lawn mower engines just don’t quite cut it. Especially now that they’ve updated their bubble-mobiles into something you’d actually take a second look at.
Clomaster@reddit
I so agree, especially now that the accord doesn't have the 2.0 OR the manual. Not that you saw them much which makes sense why they stopped, but that 2.0 was a beast. The V6 too. Now you have neither.
We had a rental 23 accord sport with the 1.5 and cvt and even tho I'd get neither, it was damn fun to drive. Got really good gas mileage too. I was genuinely shocked how well it handled and how fast even the 1.5 was. I can't imagine what a 2 0 with the 6 speed would be like. It's actually a dream car now. Also I thought it looked really, really nice on the outside
Oh also the back seat was a god damn oven because there were no AC vents. That was rather stupid. It was basically unusable for back seat passengers in the summer because of that.
AndroidUser37@reddit
I hate the trend of modern cars skipping on rear AC vents. The new Prius, Accord, Civic, even the Integra Type S all lack rear AC vents. Makes the cars feel cheap. The frickin Mk5 Golf had rear AC vents just fine.
Clomaster@reddit
Yeah it's honestly the worst. I've never really owned sedans. The first one I got was a 99 Saab which was a hatch, but it had vents. No complaints from anyone. Hell, my buddy's POS 08 Maxima even had rear vents.
The civic is one thing I guess, cause it's "cheap." But the Integra? That makes no sense. It's actually the main reason I probably won't own a car like that here. We get stupid cold winters and stupid hot summers because it's the Midwest. So vents are a necessity if I ever haul people. Not that I do often, but seriously, that accord was BAD in the back. I thought my family was being dramatic until I rode back there and sure enough, there's literally no air in a car with a black interior when it's 105 degrees. It is not acceptable I feel.
Aside from the Saab, we've owned only SUV's and each one has rear vents. My other Saab 9-7 included. Even our damn dodge has back seat vents.
If they made a modern accord coupe, I would scoop that thing UP. Obviously nobody bought them so they are gone, but damn that would be absolutely perfect for me especially if it was just a hair cheaper because of less usable space.
Over_engineered81@reddit
I test drove a 2019 Accord sport with the 2.0 and a manual last year, and I honestly hated it. It felt incredibly boring to drive, the shifter felt wildly sloppy, and the engine didn’t feel at all like it had 250 hp. The trunk is also pretty small for how big the car is.
I test drove my GLI about a week later and immediately loved it.
pauldarkandhandsome@reddit
My last Accord was the 2.0 Touring. Man, I miss that thing!

MediumCalendar7@reddit
Was lucky enough to be in the market while a 9th gen accord V6 6mt coupe was being sold not even 5 miles away. Needed some care, but it's been worth it so far. Sporty, cheap, and reliable. Normally you can only have two of those things in a car!

I have a 2021 V6 Camry, I think they just stopped production here recently with the body style change.
My average MPGs are sitting at 27 right now according to my fuel tracking, driving over 80mph pretty much daily, my fuel ups cost me about $30-40, and I have over 300 hp. Albeit FWD and meh, it’s still plenty for any regular driving situation and enough to feel like you’re capable. No cons for someone like me.

I test drove both the 2.0T accord and the brand new Touring Hybrid. I get the sentiment - but honestly, outside of the lack of sound they're very smooth and refined.
Affectionate-Fly6467@reddit
I have to agree with your opinion. I absolutely love the Toyota 4Runner, Highlander, Land Cruiser Prado, as well as the Lexus RX350, but I am really really disappointed with the fact that all of these SUVs have dropped the V6 option in favour of the diabolical T24A-FTS 4-banger that sounds like a garbage disposal filled with gravel once you take the engine past 2,500 RPM.
Yes, I understand V6 engines return atrocious fuel economy, as attested by the fact that my ‘09 V6 Highlander averages 12 L/100km on a tank with mainly highway driving. However, I am hoping there can be a middle ground between the 4-cylinder that sounds like a clogged toilet attempting to flush, and the 1GR/2GR V6 engine that has the fuel consumption of a GE90-115B.
I recently watched a test drive video of a 3-cylinder Nissan Rouge, and was pleasantly surprised how much smoother the VC turbo engine accelerates compared to the 4-banger that powers the new Highlander.
OnlineSei@reddit
RX7-FD, amongst the many things that could be on this list the two that stick out are 1) the fuel filter change is horrid, and 2) I wish they would've used more bolts/screws to put together the interior. 90s plastics did not stand the test of time
Rude-Manufacturer-86@reddit
Boxer 4 instead of an inline engine.
Slyons89@reddit
I know it’s a sports car so it’s not supposed to matter, but the fuel efficiency of the GR86 is brutal compared to competitor inline 4 like the ND miata.
Rude-Manufacturer-86@reddit
Agreed. Choosing the GR vs the MX-5 was a tough decision. Ultimately, it came down to practicality issues, but otherwise I would have gone with the MX5.
Outside of gas mileage, it's also the tuning with the torque dip issue. It's less pronounced in the GR.
snackcake@reddit
Gr86 rev hang is annoying.
bandito-yeet-dorito@reddit
You’ll miss the character of a flat 4 compared to an Inline 4 a lot. Turbo flat 4 maintenance and fuel consumption? Not so much
Rude-Manufacturer-86@reddit
I've appraised and test driven over 10,000 cars. I won't miss the character.
opus666@reddit
My brother's base Subaru seems to be one of the smoothest 4-cyl (Except in luxury cars that's had a 4-cyl shoe-horned in). Spark plug change wasn't that bad.
Why would you have preferred an inline engine?
bandito-yeet-dorito@reddit
Throttle response in turbo engines. Drive an STI and a Golf R. Inlines can have the Turbos bolted almost directly onto the cylinder head. Boxers need long and more complex headers.
Rude-Manufacturer-86@reddit
Very distinct.
Rude-Manufacturer-86@reddit
Just observation on my part. It's different if it's a flat 6 engine.
With an inline-4, I've always felt there was more initial torque from the bottom, while the boxer in the GRZ tends to be really smooth at that peak torque area at highway speeds.
Part of it is the non-linear throttle response tuning of the GR. But after driving so many cars, I've never had to be so delicate with throttle, clutch, and timing of a stick shift. But I was also very very spoiled by owning a MKIII MR2.
PM_ME_BIBLE_VERSES_@reddit
10,000? How?
Rude-Manufacturer-86@reddit

MotoMeow217@reddit
Should've been designed by Subaru with a Toyota engine. Not the other way around.
Rude-Manufacturer-86@reddit
Agreed. Go beyond the fuel injection.
AnnoyingRingtone@reddit
I like naturally aspirated motors more than turbocharged ones. And I also like that it’s underpowered. I’ll fully admit that I’m not the most competent driver and not having 300hp has probably saved me more times than I’ve realized. The GR86 is the perfect sports car for me, even with its diesel tractor motor.
SLAPUSlLLY@reddit
Waiting for confirmation of next gen. GR Toyota engine highly likely.
Thing will sell like hotcakes. (Highly limited hotcakes probably.)
Undead_Kau@reddit
Yeah but with those you can't drive above 85mph
Astramael@reddit
Toyota really hasn’t produced either of their all-internal recent GR products in especially limited quantities.
The GR Yaris is still in production tens of thousands of units later. The GR Corolla has done enough units to largely push dealer markups out of the picture, and there’s at least one more year to go (probably more).
So I bet they would produce plenty of units of next-Gen sports car for everybody to get one.

I love the Evo X but not being able to fold down the rear seats in a "family sedan" gets on my nerves daily.
JSHU16@reddit
I've not bought loads of cars for this reason, it's so frustrating. Is it that hard to make a folding rear bench?
Looking at you Lexus
JacksterTO@reddit
There's a reason the EVO seats don't fold down. RACE CAR BRO! There's a giant X brake across the back of the seat area where on a base Lancer that area would be open.
JSHU16@reddit
I've had rear braces that've still had a folding rear bench, it's handy for moving lengths of timber etc
C-C-X-V-I@reddit
Fun fish fact, Infiniti's q60 and paint eating brother have folding seats as an option, regardless of trim level. The only way to see if it has them is to physically check.
cannedrex2406@reddit
I really love my Mazda3 but that rear quarter blind spots are almost criminal in a car that's supposed to be relatively small
Bonus: the MK7 Golf GTi has stupidly tiny wing mirrors. I was in my friends GTI and I was genuinely worried how he was able to see cars in his blind spot
CloudsTasteGeometric@reddit
Ugh, yeah. My Challenger has the same problem. Why don't auto makers understand that blind spots are bigger safety issues than squeezing in an extra airbag?
hilderbilly@reddit
Came here to talk about the 3 as well. For me it’s the interior creaks and rattles as soon as it gets even slightly cold outside.
admimistrator@reddit
Same with my Mazda 3 Speed, but only at certain temperatures
Not_Daijoubu@reddit
Not a 3, but half of my Miata's rattles are in the winter, the other half are in the summer.
admimistrator@reddit
Weird, my 94 Miata doesn't even rattle. It's so loud that it doesn't matter though haha
probsdriving@reddit
Odd. I’ve owned 3 NDs at this point and all of them have been pretty solid. Might be because they lived in warm climates.
My s2000 on the other hand…🫨
Not_Daijoubu@reddit
Yeah. I never had rattles while my Miata was in California or in Illinois autumn. But once freezing temps hit I got a bunch of small rattles that came and went lol.
Dad used to have a Mazda6 in California and it developed only 1 brief rattle in all its years.
Mimical@reddit
I can't help but feel like there is precisely one day during the year where everything fits perfectly.
And there is also one day of the year where nothing fits at all.
temptags@reddit
My 3rd gen 3 was like this and my current car also has fantom rattles in the cold, especially around the armrest.
TomatilloParty8284@reddit
Such a shame since they supposedly spent so much design effort on making the cabin luxurious, reducing NVH etc trying to go upmarket. If they sacrifice performance for luxury but then can't even get luxury right, then what part of the market are they serving? Civic does pretty much everything better, does it not?
cannedrex2406@reddit
I have a phantom creak from the Infotainment screen at certain speeds and roads. It's very odd and only noticeable when there's no sound but once you hear it it does get annoying.
But tbf that's my only issue with the cars interior (that and the blind spot. But at least Mazda UK had blind spot assist as standard on all cars here so at least it's something they made up for)
aquatone61@reddit
If the mirrors are set correctly there is zero blind spot. And by correctly I mean not looking down the side of your vehicle. The MK7 has fantastic visibility.
shoveazy@reddit
Yea I was about to say, I basically have full rearwards visibility with my mirrors in place. I never thought of the side mirrors being too small, they seem perfectly sized for how small the car is.
RedditKillsAllMyTime@reddit
100% this. And this goes for all cars in general. If you adjust your mirrors properly you should have little issues seeing other vehicles on the road.
I actually drive a commercial vehicle for work every day that has no windows out back or to the sides so I’ve grown very accustomed to having my mirrors placed at very specific angles. And I have total confidence merging on the highway. My MK7 GTI by comparison feels like a fish bowl
cannedrex2406@reddit
Fair enough. They just seem awfully tiny
6890@reddit
I love adaptive brights for headlights. I just hate how they default to "On" from the moment the car starts in my Mazda 3. In a perfect world, I'd start the car, and when I'm ready to use brights I turn them on and the auto mode takes over from there.
Instead what I have is a system that just blinds the fuck out of my neighbors walking dogs for the fall/winter/spring when its dark during my commute to/from work and the only way out is to disable auto-brights entirely. So its either "ON" but in a way I don't like the function or "OFF" and its fully manual.
cannedrex2406@reddit
In fairness the auto headlight button is very easy to access and it's something I switch off literally instinctively
6890@reddit
That is true. It would be a perfect system if I could have it not engage automatically, and then flip it on when I wanted, but setting it so it isn't automatically on as soon as I start the car disables it entirely which doesn't really make sense to me, but oh well.
tnstaafsb@reddit
I drive a Mazda 3. With properly adjusted side mirrors there is no blind spot. I've never had any issues with it. I like the side traffic warning system, but only because it helps me to make sure the space I'm merging into on the highway is large enough to safely merge. I can still clearly see all traffic around me though.
PhantomPhanatic@reddit
Going from the Protege to a CX-30 was an awful adjustment. There seems to be a trend away from visibility and it's not great.
Astramael@reddit
Yea the Mazda 3 has good side mirrors, they eliminate the blind spot issue if you set them up correctly. It would be better if it had good mirrors and ALSO no blind spots, but we didn’t get that.
cannedrex2406@reddit
Oh same I like the mirror shape, just sometimes it can be annoying when reversing and you want to see something that's just out of view of the camera and just a bit out of the mirror
whyarchitecture@reddit
For me the it's THE SEATBELT ALARM THAT CHIMES EIGHT TIMES WHEN YOU START THE CAR. WHY. The only remedy is to put your seatbelt on before you start it, and what kind of monster does that?
yaBoyMerlin@reddit
The thing Ive learned with the gti is to just look through the rear windows when checking blind spot. The egg has so much visibility it makes up for the lack of mirrors
Herr_Quattro@reddit
Mk7 owner here- that’s a surprising issue, as I’ve literally never noticed that in my car. I actually uninstalled Blindspot Monitoring when I upgraded to folding mirrors because I never used it.
RedditKillsAllMyTime@reddit
I have a mk7 GTI (no blind spot monitoring) and have zero issues seeing cars in the mirrors. In fact this car has some of the best visibility I’ve had in any car I’ve owned. But then again, my last car was a 6th gen Camaro which was significantly worse so maybe I just sort of adapted to having “poor” visibility? 😂
dinkygoat@reddit
I don't know that they are any smaller than on the Mazda3. Small, but about the same as other small hatchbacks.
Trust the blind spot monitoring.
cannedrex2406@reddit
He doesn't have it on his MK7.5
awesomeperson882@reddit
Granted I’ve yet to drive a Mk 7.5, however I’ve driven a collection of other cars with horrible blindspots (my parents Mazda 5 for one, this side mirrors do nothing for your blindspots).
I’ve never found shoulder checking to be exceptionally hard, and the last thing I’d recommend is trusting the blind spot monitor.
Electronics fail too
Illustrious-Pop3677@reddit
That’s weird, my MK7.5 has it. Little orange indicators in the mirrors light up when someone’s next to the car
e30kid@reddit
Mk7.5 SE and Autobahn have it I believe, my SE has the blind spot monitoring and front assist
dinkygoat@reddit
Heh. My parents have a 2017 Mk7 Golf (non-GTI) and it has them. Woulda assumed the GTI would.
cannedrex2406@reddit
I was surprised too. He bought the car used so maybe the 1st owner didn't tick the option
dreadnought_81@reddit
I think it was part of some driver assistance package or something along those lines, at least for the pre-facelift models. Was bundled with adaptive cruise. My car came standard with it, which you'd hope was the case, considering it was the top-of-the-line GTI offering where I live.
Regardless of the presence of BSM, I find this thing to have decent visibility. Fairly sure the typical blind spots are non-existent because I have my mirrors set up the SAE way. Still look back and check them anyway though just to be sure.
cannedrex2406@reddit
That's even more odd cause his car does have Adaptive cruise and reverse camera. Just no Blind Spot assist.
Again might be a regional thing
dreadnought_81@reddit
Wouldn't surprise me if it was. The trim structure and options packages for these things varied wildly by region. Still, I find it a bit strange that your friend's car has the adaptive cruise but not BSM. Could also have been some regulatory thing with your region requiring autonomous emergency braking, but I'm just taking stabs in the dark here.

a_cool_t-rex@reddit
I totally agree with this. Even if they just stole Maserati’s 400hp v6 that they put in the ghibli, it would’ve been awesome.
Just any 6 cylinder that made competitive horsepower would do, because that Giulia’s chassis, suspension, and driver feedback is without question, the best in class.

I believe you can easily chiptune even the base model to 280bhp? That makes it fast enough.
argote@reddit
Isn't the 4 cylinder in the Alfas 280hp from the factory?
BingoPlayer1@reddit
At least in Europe they downtune it to 200hp for the base model, a chiptune will simply remove the limitation and I believe can also safely push it to somewhere around 310hp.
DepthHour1669@reddit
The 340i is basically 400hp on a good day though
BingoPlayer1@reddit
But do you want to drive a BMW, or an Alfa?
lowstrife@reddit
You can tune the hot motor too so it's kind of a wash. The hot motor still makes double the power of the base motor, and I agree with the OP they could really use a middle version. Even a de-tuned version of the 6 making idk, 380 horsepower would be awesome.
akaneel@reddit

Single turbo versus twin turbos; that's what BMW and Audi do.
opus666@reddit
Well the Cadillac ATS also had a NA V6 sandwiched between a turbo-4 and a high-power engine, but it wasn't all that popular. The V6 doesn't do much since it just brings down fuel economy numbers, actually makes less torque than the turbo-4, and it's not like a V8 where people are gonna just buy it because it sounds amazing.
Nikthas@reddit
It needs to not have the devastating throttle lag on the 4-cylinder. More power wouldn't have hurt, but it's the lag that is the killer of joy in that car.
The_ManInBlack@reddit
I totally agree, I installed a throttle controller to try and combat some of the lag but it still doesn't help with the initial delay where the car just ignores your throttle command for a moment. Here's a good video that proves that it's not turbo lag or transmission torque management - there's just a straight up delay.

Elvis1404@reddit
*250hp, in fact the 280hp model is unsellable here because of the extreme taxes, people complained for years that they wanted a 250hp model, but fca/stellantis never cared
3dmontdant3s@reddit
Iirc for a brief period of time there was a 250HP engine available
OmniStrife@reddit
I love my Alfa with the insane thing <3
RallyVincentCZ75@reddit
Absolutely. Just a higher tune for the 4 pot even. I believe the Maserati Grecale has a hotter tune of the same engine, the Giulia absolutely needed something similar. Or even the V6 without the turbos. The lack of a factory middle model just cripples the lineup, honestly. (Well, middle by US standards. For Europe the 280HP model is the middle model since there's the lower tunes and diesel options).
yabo1975@reddit
I've said this for years. If there was a middleground, it could have been much more popular. It's an amazing vehicle, I just wish there was more accessibility to consumers. By adding a middle model, they could have reduced the price of the base and opened the availability to more buyers. Alas.
stickshift4life@reddit
2015 kia rio, fairly new but no bullshit.
it's stick shift, it has an radio and manual A/C, heated seats and real gauges instead of some bullshit screen...what could you ever not like in such car...well the engine, you give it gas and it moves nowhere...this car is perfect in every other way but it all falls apart with the engine.
I wish they still made simple cars with no bullshit, I want to buy an new car but I don't want some damn touch-me-all-over-the-place-screen or some stupid screen instead of real gauges...I don't want some damn automatic A/C either...I might want full A/C but that doesn't necessarily mean I want the blower to be at full speed.
at least stick shifts are still a thing at some level (for now).
I guess this isn't what your average person wants but I'm not alone with this.

F-series BMW's were built like shit but goddamn they can make a strong motor.
Mercedes has lost their way with interiors, but they do a turbo motor better than anyone else.
Honda lost the plot with the haptic plus and minus volume control on the touchscreen, it's actually unusable and makes a Civic Type R almost a write-off in terms of daily usability in whats an otherwise amazing package.
The C8 Corvette is so competent, so perfect, it loses its specialness as a sports car. It's bored even at 6\10ths on a canyon road. It's the modern GTR.
I hate SUV's and big cars, but the Jeep Trackhawk is fucking unbelievable. If only it didn't have such a shitty ride and the dampers went softer in soft mode.
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
It's LITERALLY on your steering wheel bud. This is one of those complaints that never ever made sense. I prefer a dial but like as a driver it doesn't even matter lol
lowstrife@reddit
How many taps and holds does it take to mute the volume even with the wheel control?
There is a reason why they backtracked within 2 years on the Civic, putting a proper nob back in.
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
Umm in my Camaro if I hold it down for a couple seconds it will be do like 5-10 clicks. WAY easier than reaching over for a knob and twisting my hand...
lowstrife@reddit
It feels really bad to wait seconds for something you could otherwise do in 0.3 seconds with a flick of your wrist.
Instead you have to press and hold, press and hold until it realizes you're holding, and then hold it until it ticks to zero.
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
In my Camaro 4-5 clicks is the max I would need. Or just hold it down for a 1-2 seconds. WAY easier than even using a nob. Don't even have to take my hands off the wheel...
Pinecone@reddit
Talk about being massively overdramatic. One of the greatest FWD cars of our generation and no volume knob makes it "almost a write off".
lowstrife@reddit
As a daily driver*
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
Literally on the damn steering wheel. Hilarious that you need to reach for a knob to control the volume. Don't remember the last time I used a knob to control the volume in any car in over a decade. Just use the steering wheel
lowstrife@reddit
I must be using it wrong and it's my fault then. That's the only answer.
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
If still don't realize the absurdity in your comment that "the Type R is unusable as a daily and a write off" because you dont know how to control the volume using the buttons on the steering wheel, I don't know what to tell you man.
What you pointed out is not a major flaw in the car. It isn't a flaw at all unless you are a passenger who likes to adjust the volume frequently. I agree its a general flaw, but it's SO MINOR lol. Calling it a write off is beyond absurd haha
lowstrife@reddit
Is it hyperbolic, sure. I will agree with that. But many "if it weren't for" flaws often are. It's that one thing you can't live with.
I know how the steering wheel controls work. IT still feels really shitty to press it 27 times to mute something when you need it to be quiet. Or, hold it, hold it until it realizes you're holding it, and then hold it until it scrolls down to zero. It takes forever compared to going to a volume nob and going "zziiip" and in 0.3 seconds it's off.
Oh_ffs_seriously@reddit
Steering wheel volume control is more inconvenient to use than a volume knob. I don't remember using the former more than twice in five years I own my (regular) Civic.
aaayyyuuussshhh@reddit
My Camaro has it placed nicely and I think many American cars have buttons on the back of the steering to control volume. Really intuitive. Idk about others but I'm not adjusting my volume that frequently. Maybe once or twice every drive. Yes a knob would be nice to have but I don't see it as a massive flaw that makes the car unstable like what the original guy said.
PolarWater@reddit
I totally get where you're coming from, but sometimes it's nice to have a knob you can just twist, adjusting volume by multiple orders of magnitude in one quick go. Was good of them to put it on the wheel as a backup though.
tbenoit94@reddit
For what it's worth, they brought the volume knob back at the end of the 10th gen. My 2020 Si has a physical knob

I recently made a dream come true by driving an Aventador S for 3 days during the F1 race in Austin.
Possibly the single greatest engine ever put into a production car, mated to possibly the single worst transmission also ever put into a production car.
Despite the slight "never meet your heroes" feeling, I still absolutely adore that car. The V12 is everything.
TheFridge22@reddit
After working in an exotic shop for a while I realized something that I never really heard much talk about before. Most super cars between the late 90s and the early 2010s were sporting pretty tragic automatic transmissions.
I guess it added an element of driving something different than your everyday car but from a driving around town standpoint half of them would probably be better to drive if they just bolted on a 4L80e or something of that nature.

It’s a car thing. I’ve read on forums on how to fix it but it’s not worth that hassle. It only happens when I drive it to California.
C-C-X-V-I@reddit
Car thing. Anyone with an old bullnose has a block in the bed to park one wheel on to tilt it over and let you fill it. On something that new it's probably an easy fix since parts should still be available somewhere.
California pumps exacerbate the issue but a car in good condition will be fine.

Ziplock189@reddit
I know this isn't perfect or adjustable, but I wonder if you could unbolt the rear of the seats and add washers/spacers? So it would be semi permanently tilted forward. Would probably need a longer bolt to make sure you have full thread engagement so the seat doesn't fly off in a crash.

Volvo - Interior is very high quality but otherwise "stark". Some folks consider it minimalist, but if the material were not as good as it is, it would be described in harsher terms. The screen is small but I'd rather have a small screen than the massive ones you see in its competition.
MR2 - Clutch throw is very long, but that means you really gotta get in there when driving it hard.
Maserati - Similar to above, the transmission is very mechanical, feels good, shifts very hard. It's modded for faster shifts and better engagement so you only really experience the wonkiness if you keep it in auto.
sikoskul@reddit
2018 Giulia QV - Hated, HATED, the brake by wire. Made stop and go traffic unbearable.
Otherwise, absolutely loved the car.
Throwaway217698@reddit
What did you hate about it? My E55 has SBC and my only complaint is the pedal feels vague and the feedback can feel “off” when slowly braking but stop and go has never been an issue
sikoskul@reddit
For me, it was the inordinate amount of force necessary to keep the car at a standstill. Most times, the flex in the foot is enough pressure on the brake pedal to keep the car from moving. With the Giulia, I had to consciously press down on the brake pedal to keep it immobile.
Normal braking is the same as in most cars, you just adjust to it and move on.
It sounds like such a quibble, but it bothered me, lol.
Throwaway217698@reddit
For me I have the opposite feeling. It feels like the solenoid “gives up” is how I’d describe it. I’m actually pretty interested in buying a quadrifoglio sometime in the future. I’ve heard bad things about the reliability how’s it treated you?
sikoskul@reddit
QV is a great car. There are going to be some examples where it's more miss than hit, but as long as you can keep up with the maintenance, you'll be fine. To date, the best sounding, stock, car I've ever had. RS3 comes in second, but does not compare. Just avoid 2017.
PM_ME_BIBLE_VERSES_@reddit
It takes some getting used to, if you're not easing off of the brakes at a stop, the car jerks back and forth. Alfa did a better job on 2020+ models with the brake by wire feel, but it could be painful on the 2017 - 2019MY. Still worth it IMO and you do get used to stopping smoothly with it after some time.
RallyVincentCZ75@reddit

The format, or way Lexus/Toyota have set up options and trim levels on new models is maddening. For every one of their vehicles there are examples.
For instance. Through 2022, you used to be able to get a full-time 4wd (awd) sequoia (or LC/LX) with center locker. It shared the exact same underpinnings as the Tundra, which only offered part time 4wd. So theoretically, the Tundra could have been offered with the full time 4wd. But no.
Now, they have standardized the Sequoia, Tundra, Land Cruiser, LX GX, 4 Runner, but now neither the Sequoia or Tundra are offered with full time 4wd. While the same under-pinned vehicles LC/LX/GX/4R all offer it. So your two primary large family haulers don't have the ability to be 4wd like every other major manufacturers "auto" or FT4wd feature.
That's one example. Then - offering something like the TX, but limiting the pano roof to the very top trim is garbage for a modern 3 row. Offering the TX 500h as only a 6 seater, when the equivalent Toyota GH Hybrid Max Plat. accommodates 7 people in the same chasis/drivetrain config. is laughable... on top of that, the explanation was given as they wanted it to feel more luxurious, offering more space to the 6 passengers. A joke of a viewpoint, make it an option. If you've only got 6 people anyway, they'll have the same space whether or not the bench was there or not. You already have the seats from the Toyota - just slap your leather finish on it and call it a day by making it an option. So many poor trim/option decisions made somewhere in their front office.
I'd buy a GH HybMax Plat if it were nicer inside and had rear steer (like the TX500h). I'd buy the TX500h if it had 7 seats. I'd buy the Sequoia if it were ft 4wd and didn't have a shit cargo area. I'd buy a Tundra if it was offered with ft 4wd, like it's cousin the LC/GX. I'd buy a GX if it was bigger. I'd buy the LX if it wasn't the same size as the GX for $40k more.
Looks like I'm strapped to old models and will keep rocking older GX and sequoias forever. Or maybe GM has it figured out, except for the reliability... Offer a large, awd family 3 row suv with locking diffs, practical layouts, check-box options list, and jack the price up because you're the only reasonable option in town.

My old 2018 Honda Accord Touring 2.0T and my current Teggy's blind spot monitor only starts functioning after a certain speed which makes me not really trust it, especially in stop and go traffic. I remember back in like 2015 my Mom's old C-class she leased, the blind spot monitoring was always functioning regardless of speed, so I do not know why Honda opts for this way of doing it. Still check for cars no matter what regardless but, sort of makes that visual aid completely pointless for me.

When I had my Audi TTS, the gas tank was so small that I was filling up multiple times a week. I loved absolutely everything about that car…except that.
Now I have a Range Rover and it’s hard for me to consider other cars because of how comfortable it is. The flaw is obvious - reliability. But also, I have the upgraded Windsor leather seats with the thigh extension and it’s like 2” too short. I have yet to find a car other car that can support my thighs fully.
Finally, I always loved the Prowler and that flaw is the engine and transmission. Slushbox. But I love the design and wish we had more interesting cars like that these days.

My jellybean Ford Taurus Wagon. I love how it looks, and I love that it’s a wagon. It’s a fine car and it gets me there but the transmission is absolute garbage. Feels like the gears are made of glass. It bucks and jerks if you even think about accelerating. aprtur@reddit
Probably a goofy annoyance (and one that I know is brought up here often) but the biggest thing in my GR that's annoying me is the abundance of piano black - so much so that I'm buying parts from the Morizo and Core trims to delete or minimize it tastefully wherever I can. It's not so much the piano black itself as the fact that it scratches so easily, because I am super anal about keeping my cars clean, and it scratches from any contact, which is infuriating.
Astramael@reddit
I also dislike that the TPMS display doesn’t stay because of a bug in the cluster that they haven’t fixed yet.
aprtur@reddit
That one's definitely weird, although it's one I tend to forget about - along with the map-in-cluster thing, where the rest of the world can get a nav map in the center display, while ours is mysteriously absent for some reason.
Astramael@reddit
There is a way to put navigation on to the cluster, right? I am quite sure you can. It only works with the internal nav system, not CarPlay/AA. I did not buy the Toyota Nav so I can’t do it, but it came with the CEs and I’ve seen them do it.
aprtur@reddit
There's a turn by turn thing that we have here, but I'm not referring to that. There's a way to actually view a map that other countries have available, but for some reason we don't. It is tied to Toyota Connected, but I can't figure out for the life of me why it's disabled on our cars (I have a CE).

randeus@reddit
Having driven the Mach 1, don’t really agree. It’s heavy, but it handles its weight really well. It doesn’t feel as buckled down as my car on performance dedicated suspension, but considering how comfortable mangeride is compared to how not mine is on shitty roads, I think it’s a worthwhile trade-off.

No, drove it on the streets with the salesman in the car.

crank windows. I actually love older cars, usually i go more for aesthetics over safety/reliability (i do have standards tho) I spent forever looking for a car I wanted instead of getting some generic honda accord, even if it would have been a better choice. I landed on a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire sedan. it was old, and definitely not its best look (paint chipping off, headlights yellowed to shit, etc.) but i fell for it. Now I was set on buying her, Unbeknownst to me he had non electric windows, which meant I had to individually crank each window. This was fun for me for the first few weeks, but it got annoying fast. I have to pull over and roll em up when it rains and I'm driving, or I'm only able to roll two windows down (driver side) if they're up. Unfortunately she also doesn't have air conditioning (currently) so during the summer I just leave all windows down constantly, even when I go to the store or restaurant. (I'm not too worried about theft since I'm not in a city). But it's also a charm, I love rolling them up, I love showing friends and letting them mess with it, It's also fun to slooooooowly roll them down or up when someone is talking to you or looking at you XD, or try and go as fast as possible! another cool thing is I don't have to turn the battery on at all, I can roll them whenever I want whether the car's on or not which is really nice.
Unfortunately recently he's been having some expensive problems (recently found out that they put the wrong catalytic converter on him and got it smogged like that, so now I have to buy a new converter, or go somewhere else and hope they miss it). Mysterious crack in the windshield appeared one day not sure how, but its there. she's got an oil leak that's basically coated the whole underside of the engine. both the break and ABS system lights are perm on (bought like that). I believe a piston or two are loose which sometimes creates a knocking noise when it's really cold. It doesn't have AC. defroster for the backwindow either doesn't exist or is broken. her breaks locked up when I was going round a tight bend which made me ram into the hillside causing the whole frame to become bent and messed up her front end (I bought her uncrashed too :( I do hope to get the frame fixed someday) Sometimes engine vapors will come into the cab when the air is on, usually when the cars warming up or its very cold out. his blinker is out, a problem with the connection, not the bulb. the handle to move the back of the drivers seat up and down was broke, drivers side sun blinder mirror is also missing. That's all i think is bad right now, which is a fuckton and will be an expensive fix. even if it's better to get some newer car, I don't want to. Unless I can get my hands on a dream car (a flip up headlight of sorts ((like an mr2 or a '91 prelude)) or an old fastback.) then I want to get my sunfire back in good condition, even if it takes money and time. :)
I will note, even with all these problems shes lasted so long and has driven me on hour trips for concerts and never had problems with long drives!!
Sorry I rambled, I really love my car.
TL;DR Crank windows r very fun, even if they suck for rainy days or hot days with no ac! My car sucks and will bleed my bank account dry, probably. Im stubborn.

It’s tiny, I’m 6’5”, it hauls more than most new compact trucks, it’s minimalist to every point, its exhaust never stays fixed, like it’s a shit box….but everyone who’s drove it looks for one. My 97 Civic’s slider climate controls. Knobs were better, and I think they knew that prior to 1996 when my car made its debut. It also had weird ergos and needed a telescope steering wheel. cptpb9@reddit
To be honest I’m not sure if startup or parking are big enough use cases to show the time 24-7, you spend the vast majority of your time having CarPlay up or the infotainment having time on menus.
I just can’t think of a reason why I need to look at a clock while in reverse 😂
mearkat7@reddit
The main scenario I want to view the time though is when I first hop in the car and start it up, normally this is when you're reversing/moving out of a spot.
That said in my mind it's not even about whether or not it's something some people would want to do, it's the fact that it's such a basic thing on a "digital" dash that would take near 0 effort to have in place. Ironically at the end of a trip when you turn the car off it has the details from your trip and shows the time then.

LS2 GTO. When they turned them into LHD for the civilized world they just ran a super long hood release cable all the way around the engine bay instead of just flipping what side it ran down. After some years the cable stretches out juuuuust enough where pulling the release won’t move it enough to actually release the hood latch. So you had to have someone push on the front of the hood while someone pulled the release handle to open it.
Incredible car. Truly great. Except for that.

Ford F-150: there are way too many options and packages to choose from, which makes buying used a unicorn hunt. You may find the cab and a half, 6' bed, bench seat, V8 or 3.5 ecoboost truck, but then it has a 3.31 axle ratio and can't tow what you need it to. Or you find a regular cab 8' bed 4x4 work truck and it has the 2.7L engine so the payload is just a few hundred short of the camper you were going to slide in.
Or you find the crew cab with all the options and best gear and towing, but it has a huge ugly useless center console with a gearshift that rightfully belongs on the steering column but instead just takes up a whole extra front seat's worth of leg room.
I think there should be 3 trims of F-150: -Work spec, which is reg cab 8' bed 4x4 with a heavy duty payload package and choice of engines. All 3.73 locking axle ratio. -Lariat, which comes in cab and a half or double cab, has leather seats and touch sceeens and all the typical new car stuff, choice of engines and choice of RWD or 4x4. -Platinum/limited/King Ranch or whatever, double cab, all the bells and whistles, choice of RWD or 4x4, only the biggest and most powerful engine option. If your pockets are deep enough to buy a luxury SUV with a useless 5.5' bed, they're deep enough to pay for the gas that the biggest engine chugs.

CT200h, 2020. Would love a bit more horsepower but that would kind of defeat the point of the car.
TT 1.8 180, '98. Misses 2 cylinders. It's a fun little coupé for what it is, but the engine lacks personality. Power windows being consumables.
350Z roadster, 2008. Too heavy which makes the engine feel like it's not torquey enough at low revs.
323ti, '99. Power windows dying every so often. A lack of econometer (I love it).
Z3 2.8 192, '98. Seats not holding in place because of a small plastic piece of crap that breaks after 5,000 km so they always move a bit forward and backwards when you accelerate or brake. The 192-hp engine was also quite lazy, should've gone with the 3-litre M54.
130i, 2007. Fuel tank felt not big enough as soon as you stopped cruising. Good for a 118d, not so much for the incredible straight-6.

Love my Ranger raptor but sync4 is trash. Granted it’s trash in every ford I’ve driven with it.
The infotainment screen is cool but god damn, give me back physical buttons. Auto heated seats are great but when it’s time to turn them off on my way to work it’s a damn chore. Look down, tap the seat icon, tap it again because it just pulls up the seat and steering wheel together, tap it again, tap again, tap again to get it off. Every time, looking away from the road. With physical buttons you can feel your way around things. Also having any powertrain controls linked to the screen unlike the broncos where the lockers, sway bar and other things are actual buttons.
The trailer plugs are under the bumper instead of right next to the license plate like in the f150 and super duties. I get that it’s a global platform that extends to markets that have wider plates but come on.
Bed braces didn’t come installed from the factory and my dealership won’t install them. I can do it but it would’ve been nice to know they could.
Fuel tank should’ve been bigger. Yes, once again it’s a global platform and sold in countries where they don’t drive longer distances, but Australia gets the option I believe. Or they used to.
No hood struts. Reinforce the hood more if there’s not enough strength. I mean come on.
Could’ve came with better tires. Locked them up to avoid a collision at 25ish mph on wet asphalt.
Once again, the only time I swear at the truck it’s because sync4 pulling some bullshit

Porsche 997 Cabriolet. The rear windows are controlled by the same window switch as the front windows, and can only go up if the front windows are up. So raising a rear window to scan at a gate involves raising the front windows, then pressing a toggle switch to enable the rear window, then raising the rear window. Then doing everything in reverse to lower the windows again. It takes what should be a one-press process and turns it into a 3-6 step process. Dumb, but really annoying.

It's a toss-up between Civic's rain-sensing wipers and the AC. The former is because they straight up ignore light rain (unless they decide it's a monsoon season and go full throttle), and they don't have the simple intermittent mode. I'll give you two things that would MASSIVELY improve my car.
The window line on the door needs to be about 2 inches lower. This would both significantly improve visibility, and would make the car feel much more spacous in the inside.
The opening for the trunk is TINY. Plenty of space inside it, but can't get anything much bigger than a grocery bag through the opening. A lift back rear like the 3rd and 4th gens had would go a really long way to improving the day to day livability of the car. It would also allow you to slide the rear seats back a bit, improving rear leg room.

I'll do my own car and I'll also list off a car I like but don't own. North American market Hyundai Elantra Ns are more or less equipped like Elantra N Lines are here, with the addition of ambient lighting, the subtraction of the sunroof for US-spec 6MT cars and the addition of the N Grin modes if you get the DCT. Annoyingly, neither the N Line nor the N get adaptive cruise control because Hyundai didn't want to find a place to make the ACC sensors work with NA-sized license plates. This is despite the fact that these come with automatic steering for staying in your lane.
I love my 392s. I don't care about any stereotypes they have, all of the 392 cars are fucking sick. But man, that gas mileage is terrible if you don't have a Charger or Challenger.
