What do you drink in a typical day?

I know I'm not drinking enough water and drinking too much fizzy stuff, but I'm interested to know what others are drinking in a typical day?
I probably only have around 1L of liquid a day, and that is pretty much all sugar free fizzy stuff. But I want to try and change my habits. Easier said than done!
So what do you drink in a typical day?
Sea_Confidence_4902@reddit
I drink to thirst, so I don't measure how much I drink anymore. I drink sparkling water and I always have a pint glass of it on my desk.
oywiththep0odles@reddit
Are we the same person? I exclusively drink pints of sparkling water with the occasional tea or coffee if the mood takes me.
Sea_Confidence_4902@reddit
I have one cup of espresso at the start of my day and maybe a cup of tea after lunch. The rest of the day is pints of sparkling water. We might be the same person!
oywiththep0odles@reddit
People think I'm very strange for drinking sparkling water. My son says I drink pints of TV static.
Success_With_Lettuce@reddit
Not great, thirst is not a good measure of hydration. We are quite shit at that, as Humans.
autobulb@reddit
That has been debunked countless times. If you drink when you are thirsty you will be hydrated. The whole fad of carrying a 2L water bottle with you everywhere and having to finish it before the day is done just makes landfill fodder for companies to sell you water bottles and does nothing for you except make you have to piss a whole lot.
Ocha-Cha-Slide@reddit
One time my head killed and I felt awful and then realised I hadn't drunk in 3 days. Some of us don't have an accurate thirst meter
Skeptischer@reddit
Incredible how the anonymity of the internet encourages humanity to admit to Darwin Award levels of behaviour
Callyourmother29@reddit
Bro thinks he’s a superior human because he’s never forgotten to drink before 😂
Skeptischer@reddit
If you think remembering to drink more than once over three days makes someone a superior human, you need to raise your standards.
Callyourmother29@reddit
I didn’t say I think you’re a superior human.
Bro can’t read 😂
Skeptischer@reddit
I didn’t say I am a superior human at any point.
BrO cAn’T rEaD 😂
Callyourmother29@reddit
So you don’t think you’re superior to someone who has “Darwin Award levels of behaviour”?
Skeptischer@reddit
Such a loaded question to try and prove an absolutely inane point - don’t you think you’re superior to someone who has Darwin Award levels of behaviour?
Have a look at yourself and what you’re doing - defending something ridiculous like not realising you haven’t drunk water for three days - and ask yourself why.
Callyourmother29@reddit
I just don’t like people who think they’re better than other people, and don’t even try to understand them.
Skeptischer@reddit
Good example of projection. I haven’t made any comments about “understanding them” or alluding to being better than anyone. Just that the internet encourages over sharing.
Callyourmother29@reddit
Nah you definitely implied that you think you’re better than that person, in fact you admitted it in your last comment.
pojebam@reddit
Are you editing your comments retrospectively?
Callyourmother29@reddit
Nope, haven’t edited any of my comments
Ocha-Cha-Slide@reddit
Lol, I think being human isn't a shameful thing. ND, trauma, maybe medication has affected my ability to notice thirst. I definitely can't always distinguish pain much because I get so much of it chronically. Lots of reasons. I was a child back then too and I was allowed to learn autonomy until I was in my late 20s. It genuinely doesn't feel like something I should hide.
Green-Froyo-7533@reddit
Neurodivergence and interoception for me. I either forget or just don’t recognise hunger or thirst.
Flat_News_2000@reddit
You've got issues if you can't tell if you've drunk anything in 3 days. Dementia bro
Ocha-Cha-Slide@reddit
I mean I already responded to this kind of thing below. It was like 15 years ago. Im still alive.
littletorreira@reddit
I also find it very hard to drink to thirst. My girlfriend drinks a lot of water and drinking about half of what she has had really helped me.
bluejeansseltzer@reddit
You have adipsia and it's often symptomatic of low dopamine - are you a depressive per chance? Even if you're not, that's certainly not normal and shouldn't be perceived as the general norm.

Thirst sensation can be wrong for children and the elderly. And for some people with certain disorders too. If you are in those groups and/or suffer from dehydration and need to remind yourself to drink a certain amount of water a day, go for it. But many people, including athletes, can maintain hydration levels just by drinking when they feel thirsty. This discussion is a lot more nuanced than both extremes of "you need to drink x amount of liters per day or you're gonna die of thirst" vs "just drink a cup of water whenever your mouth feels like a desert."
Ok_Kale_3160@reddit
Yes I know elderly need to be encouraged to drink. Can be more prone to urinary infections because they don't drink enough. Also dehydration doesn't help with confusion and dementia symptoms
Mumfiegirl@reddit
They may be the BDA- but little to no research has actually been done on this- and a lot of our water comes from our food
rwe46@reddit
I’m sorry but you’re going against the society of dietitians? What are your qualifications? I’m definite any information on there will have been well researched prior to publication.
joebearyuh@reddit
I carry a 2 litre bottle everywhere but that's because I'm on medication that can make me overheat and sweat too much. Even in this weather I'm sweating all day.
Just for context I drink about 4L of water day but I'm pissing the normal amount so I'd say for the amount I sweat I'm getting just enough water. Everyone is different
azkeel-smart@reddit
And yet, we survived the last 10,000 years.
Success_With_Lettuce@reddit
Sure, but optimal body wants were never as important were they? Brains growing, that shite. Optimal performance requires regulation of intake. Water is needed more than most understand.
azkeel-smart@reddit
How do you know that the intake that my body wants is not optimal?
Success_With_Lettuce@reddit
https://www.bda.uk.com/resource/the-importance-of-hydration
azkeel-smart@reddit
That doesn't answer my question. Can you tell me in your own words why you think my body is not good at keeping hydrated?
Success_With_Lettuce@reddit
Jesus, you are a one, are you not? No of course I cannot comment on one individual, I’d be pretty sure you don’t take enough water though. Argue all you want. Continue drinking less, I really don’t care.
Upstairs-Box@reddit
I have a mate like that who laughs when I buy water on holiday until he's reaching for it.
azkeel-smart@reddit
You are making claims that you haven't substantiated in any way.
thatstoomuch_man@reddit
Complete untruth
variousbeansizes@reddit
This is not true. We are actually very good at that and it's actually really hard to become dehydrated
CubanRoyalty@reddit
Sparkling water ? You aren’t British are you?
Sea_Confidence_4902@reddit
Not originally but I've lived here for 15 years and am now a citizen.
coconutszz@reddit
Sparkling water is pretty common here
CubanRoyalty@reddit
Oh yea? I asked cuz I don’t know a single British person that likes it so I was kinda shocked… I live on sparkling water haha
Spiritual-Rabbit-907@reddit

stu311375@reddit
Sparkling water is the best, it fulfils me so much I don’t drink fizzy much anymore 😌
cant_dyno@reddit
I was with you until you said sparkling water. But jokes aside I'm the same. Have a bottle or glass that just gets refilled throughout the day.
Tinker_sailor1@reddit
I drink nearly 2 litres of water just while I'm in the gym. Maybe another 2 litres throughout the day.
daffodillace1@reddit
I have a 2l bottle of water that I aim to drink each day. If I didn't have my big bottle I regularly get to the end of the day and I've drunk a cup of tea all day and feel awful!
I don't get thirsty so won't just remember to drink until I have a headache, feel exhausted and sick which isn't great when you have a condition that's worsened by dehydration.
fiofo@reddit
2-3 cups of coffee in the morning and 1-3 cups of tea in the afternoon.
Maybe 1-2 bottles of water throughout the working day, then a pint of peach squash (amazing stuff!) with my evening meal.
WarSlow2109@reddit
Agree, the peach is amazing. My favourite, ice cold, so refreshing.
jonathing@reddit
3x Americano 3/4x mugs of tea (depending on how busy I am at work)
I can't abide cold drinks, room temperature is tolerable but I don't especially enjoy it.
DoNotGoGentle14@reddit
Same! Most of my drink consumption is hot beverages but if I have a fizzy or a a ribena, it needs to be at normal temperature and NOT refrigerated. I cannot buy refrigerated drinks at supermarkets unless I plan on leaving them out for a few hours.
WarSlow2109@reddit
Mine cannot be cold enough! I find drinks from most shops and supermarkets are just not cold enough. I find the chill especially refreshing with fruity drinks.
WarSlow2109@reddit
At least 2l water, be it in coffee or still bottled. No tap water. I have a box or tin of iced coffee in a morning. Maybe 3 cans of sugar free pop (Orange Tango or Barrs pineapplade) . If I've just bought a 4 pint of milk, I'll swig half of it.
So at least 3l a day total.
Mr-_-Steve@reddit
Monday to Thursday
1-2 litres of water at work
1 large can of monster or 1 cup of coffee
2-4 pint cans of Lager / or gin equivalent
Friday
1-2 litres of water at work
1 large can of monster or 1 cup of coffee
6-12 pint cans of Lager or Gin Equivalent
Sat and Sunday
zero water just alcohol.
masterpharos@reddit
"one cornflake, toasted. room temperature water."
Mr-_-Steve@reddit
Naa not a cereal person, and only have breakfast on weekends, Bacon and sausage please and thankyou.
And all my water needs to be chilled, room temperature water is the worst
Kapika96@reddit
Mostly water. Add in some lemonade etc. sometimes (been trying to drink less recently) and the occasional beer.
Drank about 1L of water just in the evening last night, don't know how you're doing just that per day.
mk6971@reddit
Three mugs of brewed black coffee and around 4 pints of water for a typical work day.
Rarely drink fizzy soft drinks.
DiegoCostaToro@reddit
2 Monster Ultras 500ml before work Another Monster Ultra or Red Bull at work 3 or 4 Pepsi Max/Coke Zero after work Litre of Water in the evening 3 or 4 Peppermint Teas/Green Tea
I am always thirsty and dehydrated probably because of the caffeine
At the weekend just 2 Monsters, a Coffee, a Tea, litre of water and two pints of beer each day
ShellSwap1@reddit
Most days : Coffee before midday, 2-3 glasses of sparkling water the rest of the day.
Once a week when I also have to work overnight, I have 1-2 cups of hot chocolate.
BabyAlibi@reddit
Honestly, 1 cup of coffee, 2 cans of monster (when I'm not on a monster diet) and about 3ltrs of water.
DelectablyDull@reddit
I drink a litre a day just with my 3 mugs of coffee... I'd have a pounding headache 24/7 if I drank that little. I drink at least 3 litres a day, more on hot days. I have a high risk of kidney stones because I have a horseshoe kidney so I'm well motivated to drink plenty. The best way to prevent them is to stay well hydrated and pass plenty of urine
joannaradok@reddit
Around 10-15 cups of tea and a four cup pot of coffee in the am to start my day off well (sometimes a cheeky sugar free red bull if I need a pick me up.)
Delicious-Cut-7911@reddit
smoothie and coffee breakfast, cappuccino for lunch, coffee 4pm, alcohol free evenings. A glass of water during the day. Never drink fizzy pop as it rots the teeth
Absentmined42@reddit
One cup of black coffee in the morning, then I mainly drink squash throughout the day - usually about 1.5-2 litres. I also allow myself 1 can of Diet Coke.
Penderyn@reddit
Rip your enamel!
Absentmined42@reddit
My dentist says that I have very good teeth. But maybe I’ll swap some squash for plain water.
FenelSosige@reddit
I’m exactly the same!
Theddt2005@reddit
2 pints of water 2 cups of tea 2-5 pints of beer
HolyTesticleToosday@reddit
The food chain just released an episode on “how much water should I be drinking which was interesting!
Savings-Carpet-3682@reddit
Water, hot drinks and a soft drink now and then.
Full sugar though, if you drink enough pop to be concerned about sugar intake, you’re drinking far too much pop.
dutchcourage-@reddit
A cup of coffee, a 500ml bottle of water, a coffee or tea, 2 more bottles of water, maybe another tea or coffee, then in the evening at home a few glasses of squash.
benbristol69@reddit
Breakfast smoothie - almond milk, spinach, banana, fruit, protein powder Coffee (1 or 2) - with oat milk and sugar 330ml of sugar free fizzy drink with lunch A couple of beers or glasses of wine with dinner, occasionally cocktails / spirits 1.5 to 2L of water throughout the day - depending on the day, more if I’m exercising
Minimum-Perception72@reddit
Coffee in the morning and a glass of water, then water throughout the day (average of 3 glasses), glass of water during lunch and dinner plus herbal tea after lunch and dinner.
SpickleRotley@reddit
Water. Green tea. Beetroot juice. Water. Beer. Water.
SpickleRotley@reddit
In that order but quantities differ
crazygrog89@reddit
About 3 litres of water, 1 small cup of fresh orange juice and a double espresso. Also about 3-4 glasses of white wine a week.
Odd_Version1408@reddit
Monster ultra white
Devilonmytongue@reddit
I drink one cup of coffee in the morning. And about 1.5L of water if I’m being really vigilant.
Patience70@reddit
Around 3 litres of tap water a day, one sugar free energy drink (like a large red bull or monster) and maybe one coffee depending on what time I wake up. If I’m having a boozy drink on top then will be 1-3 pints of lager, if I drink these super late in the eve I’ll be having water between them (with electrolytes in if I’m at home).
Havana-plant@reddit
3l of water each day, most important thing in life
ConsequenceLanky6580@reddit
2/3 coffees of the morning. 3/4 litres of water at work (on my feet for long hours). 4/5 pints and a bottle of wine after work (weekends only)
Accurate_Prompt_8800@reddit
About 3L water minimum (I run every day so lose a lot), Coke Zero or two, don’t drink tea, coffee or alcohol really.

Presume you know about aspartame - definitely something wrong with sugar free “fizzy” drinks
BrieflyVerbose@reddit
There's nothing wrong with aspartame. Just stay within the recommended amounts.
Ok_Kale_3160@reddit
It gives some people migranes because it messes with people's serotonin and dopamine in their brains, so for some people, like me, the recommended level is zero.
All the studies focus on if it gives you cancer not the effect it has on brain chemistry
BrieflyVerbose@reddit
But this is the case for literally everything. The biodiversity between people means that people react differently to all kinds of things.
I'm not dismissing your experiences of it, but we tend not to caveat for things like this because they can happen with literally anything people ingest.
Ok_Kale_3160@reddit
To put this issue in the most basic terms it's people who have ADHD that may have issues with artificial sweeteners giving headaches. That could be 10% of the population. ADHD brains have a very particular relationship with dopamine receptors which drives behaviour, so have a great sensitivity if the dopamine flow gets interrupted.
We don't know what it does to 'normal' brains as no reaserch has been done on it but blocking dopamine can lead to low mood in other situations. It would be good if these chemicals were properly studied before they were put into ALL soft drinks (UK)
Just practically speaking this issue also needs to be well publicised so Dr's know about it so when a patient presents themselves with persistent headaches they can be advised to cut the chemicals from their diets. At the moment nobody seems to know and people are suffering needlessly
Ok_Kale_3160@reddit
I agree with you. But maybe for different reasons.
Artificial sweeteners can cause headaches and migranes in certain people because they mess with the brains serotonin and dopamine receptors.
I can't touch the stuff because of this.
There seems to be little known about this issue and research focuses mainly on if it gives you cancer, not the effects it has on human brain chemistry.
If you know anyone who has frequent headaches, ask them to cut out Artificial sweeteners and see if that helps.
jackboy900@reddit
There's minimal evidence that there's anything wrong with aspartame, 99% of the negative comments about it are just blatant fear mongering
joebearyuh@reddit
Watched a few videos on this subject with the gist being that you'd be far better off drinking a 2L bottle of diet coke a day than 3 pints of beer a day. Aspartame isn't great but I think you'd need to be drinking about 30 cans a day for it to really be bad for you.
It's just another stick to beat us with. Keep on enjoying your diet coke and don't let the bastards grind you down.
fouriels@reddit
Aspartame is one of the most studied compounds in history and it's perfectly safe at reasonable consumption levels. The dose makes the poison.
Remarkable-Wash-7798@reddit
This thread went full circle, someone suggesting it's bad, someone not getting involved, others suggesting it's not well studied and now your saying it's one of the most studied. 🍿
I don't drink fizzy drinks either way because the gas cripples my inners. But I'm here for the studies.
fouriels@reddit
Per Wikipedia, "Aspartame is one of the most studied food additives in the human food supply. 7 18l Reviews by over 100 governmental regulatory bodies found the ingredient safe for consumption at the normal acceptable daily intake limit [6] [7] [9] [10] [11] [12] [13]".

Outrageous_Pick2380@reddit
Probably drink about 500mls and pee around 2ltrs. Been like this for the past 20 years or so. I haven't dried out or anything so using my firm grasp of biology, I am forced to conclude that it's some type of reverse osmosis. Maybe something to do with high levels of salt in the atmosphere pushing O2 into ny cells which have lower concentrations of salt. I would have missed this completely if Anthony Fauci hadn't told us about 'the science' it's almost a mirror image of science, but there are no rules in the reflection, you can make claims without evidence and testing theories is frowned upon. All you need to do, is email your theory to Fauci and he'll peer review it for £500 paypal. As he is 'The Science' if he says yes, it's now an accepted scientific fact. Much less tedious than the old antiquated procedures.

About 5 cups of tea and maybe just under litre of water 😄
Howley22@reddit
I drink about 8/9 cups of coffee and about 3/4 cups of tea, nothing else.
darybrain@reddit
Either tea in massive cups so I don't feel like I'm drinking a lot but two cups will take me well over 1L and different flavoured squash from a large bottle that I keep in the fridge so it is always nice and cool. I'll grab the odd swig from the squash bottle most times I'm near the fridge so I'm easily between 1.5-2L of fluids without even realising it.
Fizzy drinks on occasion but only if I'm not too lazy to go to the shop. I only drink alcohol when out socialising so it is a rarity and even then it isn't to go out and get drunk but just to relax a little and have stupid conversations so a large wine, large cocktail, or cider bottle can last me ages.
dxsgraced@reddit
On a work day (10 hour shifts normally) I will drink between 7-10 pints of water a day because I’m walking around a lot and it’s quite warm inside, when I’m off it’s usually 3-4 pints of water + an abundance of tea lol
mirikaria@reddit
I don't measure, maybe around 2-2.5L a day? I'll have a few cups of tea and maybe a coffee, and then after that it's pretty much squash or water...I generally try not to drink too many fizzy drinks, but I do like them from time to time.
ImplementAfraid@reddit
About 2 litres of sparkling water a day, although on some days a single glass of water is fine. I used to drink 2 litres of Pepsi a day but by trial and error I found it was causing my eczema, stomach acid, contributing to my underperforming memory and some other oddities. I’ll cut out the obscene amount of chocolate I have been eating to see what that improves.

Tim-Sanchez@reddit
I'm not sure how you function on just 1l a day! I'm definitely drinking at least double that, almost always water and a glass of juice with breakfast. I'll only really have a fizzy drink if I'm out.
themontyverse@reddit (OP)
Yea I've been told before that I'm not drinking enough, but if I try and drink more I just end up peeing constantly, and I'm usually drinking as a chore rather than being thirsty, so the habit never sticks
jackboy900@reddit
If you're not feeling dehydrated, you're not pissing dark yellow and are generally fine then you probably are drinking enough. Different people have different needs and trying to reach some arbitrary number isn't really helpful.
alltorque1982@reddit
This is interesting. I was told by a coach to drink X amount and I just couldn't do it. Felt like I'd burst. Whereas the amount I drink on a normal day varies, and I rarely have yellow pee, rarely feel thirsty and I just adjust as I go along.
Food however is a bigger battle:-(
Ocha-Cha-Slide@reddit
Try and add to your meals a salad or fruit portion- especially water heavy stuff. Celery, watermelon, citrus fruits, berries etc
This ups hydration bit also if you eat raw fruit/veg 30nmins before a meal it can aid digestion and fullness. Plus adding things in is easier than taking things out- make smaller portions of the food you like and bulk up with other things!
alltorque1982@reddit
That's a really good tip. Thanks. Currently reading about emotional eating and realise it is 100% me. The book echoes alot of what you say.
Ocha-Cha-Slide@reddit
Yeah, mostly be gentle with yourself if it's psychological. Some places try to eat 30 different wholefoods (think fruit/veg/legume/pulses/grain) per week. If you aim for that then I think it can really assist healthier eating.
The hand diet helps too. Your palm is the size of protein, your cupped hand for carbs, your thumb for oil and two cupped hands for a snack. Even if I got 2 or 3 portions using my hands in this way helped me to be more mindful of what I was eating. Step one is being curious and taking notes without judgement I think.
I've not read the book- thanks for the recommendation!
alltorque1982@reddit
Thanks so much. The hand technique is new to me, that sounds awesome
Ocha-Cha-Slide@reddit
You're welcome! I forgot to say if you are a guy then it's double that! All the best!

I try not to drink too much after day 7pm as I hate having to get up in the middle of the night to pee (or get that horrible dream that you are peeing and a little bit seeps out. *I know I am not the only one)
Fyonella@reddit
I’m the same. I’ll have a couple of black coffees, maybe a cup of black tea. Then a lavender & camomile or a liquorice tea right before bed.
I just find it hard to drink water per se.
Having said that, probably 85-90% of my diet is made up of fruit, vegetables and salad veg. I think people forget how much of their natural hydration comes via food. Eat a bowl of soup etc? That counts.
By the colour of my urine I’m not at all dehydrated. So I don’t worry about it.
mrminutehand@reddit
For me, it's a diagnosed disorder. I generally don't feel thirst - ever - so I need a schedule or alarms to direct me to drink water. Even then it can be a little hard sometimes, like trying to start a meal when your body is not at all hungry.
Passing_Tumbleweed@reddit
I'm only drinking around 1L of water per day, maybe a little less. I'm only 56kg and I only drink water, no caffeine or fizzy.

durreetoes@reddit
Tea and water pretty much.
3/4 brews, any of them after 12 will be decaf. And then for water, I normally forget or cba to keep filling my bottle up. But on a good day would have about 1L.

Generally I have around 2L of either water with fresh lemon juice in it or sugar free squash. Occasionally I’ll have a Diet Coke and if I’m drinking alcohol (every other week maybe) I’ll have champagne or white wine spritzer.

As it gets colder i find it so much harder to drink water, I work outside mainly in cold buildings in construction sometimes I can be ok once the buildings are watertight but still not great!
In summer no problem doing 3lts of water through out the day and a couple glasses of vimto maybe a couple cans off coke a week if we have a takeaways.
Winter I change my work drink to vimto as I find it easier to drink but will still drink 1.5ltrs throughout the day again 1 or 2 glasses off vimto and maybe the odd can off coke again if we get a takeaway.

There's a lot of myths about drinking 2litre or more of water a day...I heard a health prog on BBC Sounds where a kidney specialist said that 1 litre is about right, and you get any other water you need from your food [as food - apart from crisps! - is 90% water.]
Eat lots of veg, yogurt, fruit, you'll be getting plenty of water.
If you drink more, you just pee it all out, which is utterly pointless. It is possible to drink too much water, and effectively drown yourself [this is why Ecstasy overdosers died.]
Fizzy drinks are still hydrating, they are only bad for you if they have lots of sugar in.

in terms of advice, I'd say don't cut out the fizzy completely, start off with what you already have but drink more water alongside it

3 or 4 cups of tea, a smallish glass of juice with breakfast, a glass of water with lunch, something with dinner, usually a soft drink but sometimes wine or cider. Assuming about 300ml per drink which is probably about right, then maybe 2l per day, if that. More if I'm on Zwift/other exercise or in hot weather. If I don't drink the tea then I drink even less, presumably because tea is diuretic so encourages more water cycling. My wife always says I don't drink enough - sh probably drinks at least double, likely more like triple what I do - every time I'm having a small glass of water/juice/whatever she'll have a pint of water.

Some neurodivergent folks do not have those clues. 10 pm, forgot they haven't had breakfast yet, but started shaking etc.
I'd suggest getting a large water bottle with tally marks or a big bottle of flavoured water and finish it on the day.
The other trick is drinking with your meals and morning coffee. 1-2 large glasses, and make it lemon water, weak squash or flavoured water not pop.
themontyverse@reddit (OP)
That's interesting. I'm neurodivergent and hadn't considered my drinking habits could be linked
flohara@reddit
Well, that's probably the reason why you don't drink, or seek dopamine from drinking pop. Could be a sensory issue, could be being distracted, or it being a samefood comfort ritual thing.
Chat to other neurolodivergent folks, and ask what tricks they use.
Sometimes harm reduction is already a great step. Figure out what works for you, and don't measure yourself to folks who don't have these issues.
peobarionboy@reddit
I am the same as you, but substitute the fizzy pop for dilutey juice. Normally I drink a couple of small bottles of water during the working day, then switch to blackcurrant juice in the evening. I know sugar free drinks arent great for you, but no matter what I've tried, I'm just not a water drinker. If I have plain water I just don't drink it and adding fruits etc to flavour it does nothing for me either. It's like my brain just blocks out the fact that I have a drink sat there and just ignores it 😂. I have a hideously sweet tooth and would exclusively drink Pepsi max given a chance, but if it's sugar free squash & pop or nothing, I'll take the sugar free drinks. At least it's not all sugar and not all fizzy I guess 🤷♀️

2 mugs of coffee in the morning, by mid day, usually a glass of fruit juice. Either another mug of coffee or a can of fizzy drink for lunch, then nothing else until I get home from work (unless it's hot weather). Once home, probably another 3 or 4 drinks of either tea, squash, or beer 👍🏻
PsychologicalDrone@reddit
I drink one coffee in the morning, water all day, then one decaf coffee in the evening. Total volume is probably less than the advised 2L per day though.
I’ve always been amazed that people can rely on fizzy drinks as their primary source of fluid.
TheTjalian@reddit
I normally drink between 2L and 4L of water a day. I also sometimes have a glass of squash and/or a bottle of pop, but this isn't every day.
Having a filter water tap at work and a 2L water bottle with a straw helps massively with water consumption. Means I can grab a quick sip and I'm not up and down multiple times just to refill my bottle.
CheeseyGarlicBread10@reddit
I have a 2L bottle I drink of squash during the day but don’t always drink it all… probably about 1.5 from wake up till next morning… then I have a hot drink in the morning and that’s it!

4-6l of water and electrolytes as non - negotiable
Coffees / fizzy drinks as extras
BrieflyVerbose@reddit
This is pointless, to be honest it sounds like bullshit but I don't know you. This is far too much, there's absolutely no reason to drink this amount daily and I'd argue you're more likely doing yourself damage than it being a benefit (medical student)
AdoredThrow@reddit
Training 1.5-3hrs a day (vigorous)
With additional saunas after training pretty much daily.
And a body weight of 96kg.
But okay thanks Doc.
BrieflyVerbose@reddit
Well that's a different situation, see what happens when you can be arsed to post a bit of context. (I still feel a hint of BS but there we are).
Also I'm not a doctor, I'm a medical student. If you're gonna post something that sounds like bollocks that can potentially harm people then I'm gonna comment on it. The little sarcy bit at the end was pathetic by the way
AdoredThrow@reddit
The question asked what you drink in a typical day, I answered, why are you crying and getting upset?
I don't need to provide the context I did, that wasn't the question 😂
ParadoxLoom@reddit
wow, that is impressive. If I drink more than 1.5 liters I will never leave the bathroom :)
RadiantCrow8070@reddit
The electrolytes mentioned are key here
drinking 6l of water a day is pointless if its plain water as it would just flush your system of the needed electrolytes
BrieflyVerbose@reddit
That's mostly a myth. You don't lose significant electrolytes through normal urination, plus your kidneys do a good job of keeping things in balance. Electrolyte drinks are only really needed after exercise.
Also drinking 6 liters of water is just excessive (you could argue dangerous). There's absolutely no need to take it anywhere near that far.
RadiantCrow8070@reddit
6L's of water would not result in normal urination would be my point.
BrieflyVerbose@reddit
It wouldn't be normal urination but that's not gonna be the issue, you could be pissing like a race horse and the kidneys should still keep that electrolyte balance. Over hydration is a bigger issue here, especially if it leads to hyponatremia.
I do feel like his/her comment is bollocks though (but ya never know). If it isn't then apologies, but anyone reading this... don't drink this much. It's pointless and can be dangerous.
hamjamham@reddit

Litres of fizzy vimto, hot vimto and the occasional herbal tea. It doesn’t matter what form you take your liquid in as long as you keep hydrated. You actually get a lot of water from the food that you eat as well.

Sugar free fizzy drinks are still terrible for your teeth especially in that quantity. I exist mostly on sparkling water and tea. Occasionally coffee or a can of something.
terribletea19@reddit
I drink tea on work days and water as and when I feel like it. I keep a water bottle at my desk and don't even notice myself sipping at it until I need to refill, so it's often 1.5 to 2 litres a day.
I would suggest you try alternating one glass of your fizzy drinks with a glass of water, or have a water bottle on the go alongside it and a "rule" to not get another fizzy drink until you've finished your water bottle. Drink as much as you feel is necessary, but this method should help you get more of the good stuff and less of the unhealthy drinks if you're trying to kick that habit.
Raphiella@reddit

First thing I do every day is neck 2 pints of water. Then I’ll put the kettle on and have a tea.
I work from home so will typically have a pint glass of water and a tea on my desk and then top the water up throughout the day. I might have a few cups of tea, depending on how tired or cold I am. I don’t have any tea in the afternoon.
If I go to the gym I will have more water.
In an evening I usually stop drinking water unless I feel thirsty. Then I limit it so I’m not up for a wee at night!

When I'm NOT at work.... Dr pepper. Almost exclusively Dr pepper. Which is probably bad for me. But nobody is going to live forever. That said, when I'm at home for a day, I typically drink less overall. Maybe a pint of Dr pepper, total.

I have ADHD issues that come along with either physical or mental tiredness sometimes, I tend to use coffee or a Monster to help with that but it doesn't do a great job but it's all I have.

Drink what you need, not what you think you need. Your pee should be straw coloured. If it's darker or lighter you should drink more or less. Some people need more than others. I can get by on a litre or less somedays and still feel like I'm drinking too much, whereas my partner needs like 2 litres minimum to function.
I was a fizzy drink addict as a kid. As an adult I drink fizzy water mostly, not the best but better than coke etc. Sometimes, I have normal water because I recognise fizzy stuff is terrible for teeth. I have a couple of coffees in the morning. Rarely have fizzy pop unless I'm out. A few units of booze at the weekend.
turingthecat@reddit
Until about 1 1/2 years ago I was literally drinking most of my water via coke, until I realised I had been drinking an actual half kilogram of excess sugar a day.
Now it’s basically water, with maybe two fizzy apple juices a week, and one old school Lucozade (shout out Todd’s drinks) at 4am on a Monday morning. That is the end of my break on the last of my three night run of 12 hour shifts.

Between 10 and 12 I'll usually make myself a cafetiere of coffee, drunk black, usually around 2 cups but sometimes 3. I use to be so bad with drinking water . Like honestly would go most days and realise I hadn’t drank water . ThatsMrShorTassToYou@reddit
Around 3-4 litres of water a day. More on a gym day. About a litre of blackcurrant and apple squash. And a pint of Pepsi with dinner.
NobDeRiro@reddit
I live mainly on tea and coffee, especially this time of year. Some “zero” soft drinks as well as the occasional normal one
SleepyWelshGirl@reddit
I drink 3-4 litres of sparkling water a day. The no added flavour, sugar or anything else type, just plain fizzy water. I hate the taste of none fizzy water but I'm constantly thirsty so this is my only option. I will also drink 1 or 2 cups of coffee between 7.30am and 2pm, no later than 2pm though. That is it! I have inappropriate sinus tachycardia so if I'm having a really bad day with dizziness and palpitations I might have a lucozade or powerade to give me soon energy, but mostly I don't. I shouldn't drink the coffee really but it's my only pleasure in life these days!
sundayhungover@reddit
1x black coffee in the morning
1x green tea after lunch
1x chamomile tea in the evening
Ocasionally will have a decaf coffee at one point or another. Other than this just water.

2-3 600ml bottles of water throughout the day (none after 18:00 if I can avoid it). 2-3 cups of decaf coffee (last one at 14:00). 1 glass of squash with dinner.
65Nilats@reddit
Only water and one cup of coffee in the morning.
I don't really understand why people can drink swill (Fizzy drinks/etc). They are not good for you, you shouldn't drink that.
hamjamham@reddit
1 cup of coffee, 1 pint of water with a vitamin effervescent, a couple more pints of water throughout the day & maybe a fizzy drink or NA beer in the eve
throwtheway52@reddit
About two coffees, one Diet Coke can, some water, and maybe 1-2 teas or a hot chocolate
BeardedBaldMan@reddit
Around a litre of water, a litre of tea and half a litre of coffee.
quoole@reddit
Tea, squash and water mostly during the day. I also personally love sparkling water (make sure it's just carbonated water, nothing added) and it can be a great step to get off other fizzys with none of the health drawbacks.
Evenings and weekends, mostly the same, but I'll sometimes have a beer/cider and sometimes gin and tonic or rum and coke.
1968Bladerunner@reddit
I've found about 2L works for me, comprised mostly of tea & a coffee or two, with the rest made up from water, milk, fresh fruit juice, an occasional fruit cider or can of fizz.
Glass_Argument3644@reddit
Not enough by far and it led to me getting gout! Stay hydrated people!
Good-Gur-7742@reddit
I make sure I drink at least 3litres of water a day, and my one vice (don’t smoke or drink) is one can of Diet Coke a day too. Heaven.
GnextD2020@reddit
A couple of coffees in the morning and far too much diet coke. I'm making a big effort to cut down my intake now and I've reduced the amount quite significantly but still have too much.
PsychologicalNote612@reddit
Eight teas (rooibos), four coffees (caffeinated and black, no sugar), 4/5 300ml glasses of water and 3/4 500ml glasses of water.
ebola1986@reddit
Coffee first thing, four or five pints of water throughout the day, one or two cups of tea, usually a can of diet coke.
Consistent_Ad3181@reddit
Way to much coffee, a bottle of fizzy water, oat milk. That's about it, perhaps some tea
KingKhram@reddit
1-3 cups of tea in the morning and then 2-3 litres of water the rest of the day. The last time I had a can coke was about 7 weeks ago
Rob81196@reddit
4 cups of coffee and a bottle of water
Jesssssssssssieeee@reddit
I used to be 2-3 coffees before 2pm and then nothing until the evening where I was have a fizzy drink or squash.
I’ve since changed it as my skin wasn’t looking too great and now drink a pint of water before anything else in the morning. Then have my teas and coffees through the day but I carry my water bottle with me everywhere and I drink that throughout the day. I had to stop buying fizzy drinks and squash and now if I want something fizzy it’s either kombucha or San Pel.
Sugarlips_80@reddit
Approx 2.5ltrs water - I have a 880ml bottle with me at all times. I drink it with a little squash for taste, drunk throughout the day

knight-under-stars@reddit
4-6 coffees between getting up and about 3pm.
Loads of water/squash. I have a half litre bottle on my bedroom window ledge which I down immediately upon waking and then I probably average a litre every 2 hours.
smushs88@reddit
Morning - Protein shake - 2/3 coffees - half a bottle of water
Afternoon - protein shake - bottle of water
Evening - couple of glasses of water - cup of tea
Might have to start increasing water in the afternoon and decreasing drinks in the evening as middle of the night toilet runs are not the one.
