Cars pulling way out so you can't see past them, why???

I have a very low car so when someone in anything larger than a corolla pulls out next to me I can not see past you... yet you can literally look over my car and see the traffic. Please I am begging help my short ass out
Soeffingdiabetic@reddit
My hood is about 33% the legs of my car, this drives me insane bc I either have to wait for them(and it's usually a left turn bc I avoid them, US) or have to stick my nose 5 feet into the traffic lane to see around them.
spacestonkz@reddit
Same.
My commute to work has a lot of right turns at lights. My sedan is short but long.
Right on red is permitted, but I'm constantly NOT taking the right on red when I could ... Because I can't fuckin see when some jackass in a truck or SUV pulls 7 feet beyond the stop line. STOP AT THE STOP LINE!!!
People behind me honk and honk but I can't go because I can't see, and I'm sure as hell not pulling 16 feet beyond the stop line so I can see. I'm also not gonna just do a "trust me bro" and go because the honkers honk that it's clear. I wanna turn too guys. I just can't do it safely.
PurpleBirdz@reddit
Hi, Virginia (the state i drive in) here, I have seen some cars pulls all the way to where the back of their car is past the line and they are still creeping up. It'd wild.
spacestonkz@reddit
Bruhhh I ain't in Virgina. So it's not regional then ...
Upstairs_Bend4642@reddit
Universal my dear!
Upstairs_Bend4642@reddit
Recently a young person who was checking the mail, (stopped on the wrong side of the road) tried to get me to go around them but it was a blind hill/curve. I stood my ground until they realized that I didn't trust their skills.
drunkenhonky@reddit
That's what you have to do. Just forget everyone behind you, fuck em. You gotta stay safe out there.
libra-love-@reddit
My truck has a huge blind spot from the pillar between the windshield and front windows. It fucking sucks bc I have to constantly creep forward into traffic to make sure I don’t crash
Sketch2029@reddit
My hood is about 3' long and people pulling too far forward is still a problem for me because, like OP, my car is low.
PistolPackingPastor@reddit (OP)
Yesss this is me. How am I supposed to deal!!
Pushfastr@reddit
Just have to go a bit slower to clear the intersection.
With how frequently people are going through red lights, I'm fine with slowly taking off from a green, especially if I can't see.
Silent_Pay_9239@reddit
It's worse when you inch forward so you can see, and they inch forward, and then you inch forward, and they inch forward... like why are you ACTIVELY blocking me when I'm trying to turn right and you're trying to turn left? You're going to have to wait longer for an opening since you need to have two lanes open at once to make your turn, so just let me go
swanspank@reddit
If you aren’t turning, stop before the damn white line. So what if someone gets to turn right before you get to go straight. Ffs what’s the big deal!
SirArmor@reddit
I see it the opposite way. Because there's fewer openings for a left turn, if I'm turning right I'll let the left turner go first and not inch up (unless it's very obvious they'll be waiting forever).
Sure I might miss an opportunity to make my turn, but I'll get another chance to turn right much sooner than they'll get another chance to turn left. I'd rather lose my commonly available slot than take their rare one.
Silent_Pay_9239@reddit
good on you for being kind! /gen personally I don't see a point in waiting for them to turn when they'll have to wait a few minutes for cross traffic while I only have to wait a few seconds, but honestly patience is a virtue and we need more people like you on the road
TheRapidTrailblazer@reddit
I once honked at someone and gave them the death glare because of this. Like why do you even need to move.
SnooJokes5038@reddit
Because monkey see monkey do. They don’t use their brains they just mindlessly copy other people in their surroundings.
Comfortable_Trick137@reddit
Better yet they inch forward and they’re going straight, just blocking you for no reason
jrhiggin@reddit
Happens all the time to me when I want to turn right on red. Cars to my left that can't go until the light turns green will be all up in the crosswalk. Or if I'm going straight the car in front of me will be so far back that they're not on the sensor. Luckily most the lights here use cameras now instead of buried sensors though.
SEND_MOODS@reddit
I have a larger vehicle and I still hate this. Stop lines are back where they are so that everyone can see. Not to mention you aren't getting there any quicker by moving up an extra 10 ft. In fact, now you don't have as much room to accelerate so you can't fit into as a small of a gap. So it can only slow you down to pull up that much further.
atraudes@reddit
What's even better is when you pull forward to see past them, and then they creep forward some more
FuriousFurbies@reddit
Some asshole woman in an SUV pulled some shit on me in my sedan the other day. It was a road that didn't continue forward, only left and right turn lanes onto a 30mph section of highway people habitually go nearly 50 on (T intersection).
She was already stopped over the line for turning left, and every time I tried to inch forward to see past her, she would move forward so I couldn't. She could definitely see over me, and kept this shit up until she was halfway into the traffic going right. There was a hefty line of cars behind each of us by then.
Tons of opportunity for us in the right turn lane to go for it, but no fucking way to tell if I would have been smashed into by an unseen car if I had!
Remarkable-Area-349@reddit
Right!? Seriously, the stereotype about people in big vehicles is well earned. 😐
MystMyBoard@reddit
Very case specific but. If you find yourself in a situation like this with a truck and trailer. There’s a space just behind the cab of the tractor and the trailer that will give you a great space to utilize.
KaleyKingOfBirds@reddit
Please note that when you are in anything smaller than a crossover, the truck carnot see you at all, between their passenger door and their bumper.... just a PSA
epic_null@reddit
That sounds incredibly dangerous!
TSPGamesStudio@reddit
It's also false. If your mirrors are adjusted properly you don't miss anything.
KaleyKingOfBirds@reddit
It is! And it's really scary for the truck driver when somebody tries to cut infront really close from that spot. Can't see the the whole time, until they are fully in front, some times not even.
That's why some trucks have a little window at the bottom of the passenger door.
Seems most people don't realize how blind that spot is.
epic_null@reddit
I was actually complaining about the size of the truck.
The trucks got big AFTER the little cars were added to the road.
rusticatedrust@reddit
Only when the truck driver doesn't know how to adjust their fender mirrors, but it's best to assume they don't.
KaleyKingOfBirds@reddit
You drive a lot of trucks?
rusticatedrust@reddit
Not as many as I used to, but I maintain a fender mirror on the blindside of all of my combination vehicles. It covers the blind spot in the west coast mirror that goes from the cab fairing to the nose of the truck. By the time a vehicle is out of the fender mirror's field of view, their front end is visible right in front of the mirror arm. My eye position is approximately 40cm forward and 20cm above most truck drivers eye position to help improve visibility. I get a lot of shit about my driving posture, but it's a part of what makes having over a million accident free miles possible.
stonecutter5258@reddit
Have had similar happen... large pickup or work truck at light in straight thru lane, me in the right turn lane. I eased up just far enough to see past the nose of the truck and they immediately moved up even with me, blocking my view again. This was definitely deliberate. It became a blind right turn at that point. I tried easing up twice more, with the same result. Wasn't able to safely turn until the light changed.
Europia79@reddit
You're a moron: And I'd bet you probably didn't learn anything either.
Like, there's way too many people (like YOU) on "auto-pilot" with their "head in the clouds" thinking about what they're going to do on Friday & Saturday, instead of paying attention.
Because, had you actually been paying attention, you could have stopped behind the Truck and had a completely clear view of traffic.
As far as the possible REASONS why he did that: - (1) On purpose (to block your view). - (2) To trigger the sensor. - (3) Reactionary stimuli: He was on his phone, noticed from his peripherial vision that you moved and assumed the Light changed Green.
But I'll give your assessment the benefit of the doubt that it was "deliberate": However, that doesn't discount the possibility that they had been waiting at the Light for a long time and simply inched forward in an attempt to trigger the sensor to force the Light to change.
No_Juggernau7@reddit
One of your supposed reasonable reasons this might have happened was the truck driver being on his phone and you call the commenter a moron? You must also be driving a truck inattentively, if you think OP is an idiot for expecting someone driving a tank of a vehicle to be paying attention enough not to continually block someone’s ability to view and gauge the situation safely.
Europia79@reddit
How TF is me literally making observations of what other people do when they're driving equate to ME "driving inattentively" ??? That's quite literally the exact opposite of being "inattentive".
So, I really gotta ask: Were you LYING intentially, or are YOU just a moron too ?
stonecutter got called a moron because I literally see people like him all day on the road: He's complaining about something that happened, but he's not smart enough to think of new & innovative ways in the future to deal with said scenarios.
He's quite literally another one of those NPCs not paying attention: That's extremely dangerous btw. And for you to be so flippant & dismissive about HIS dangerous driving habits is wild: Like, would you want one of those types of drivers putting YOUR family at risk ???

Long pickups can block sightlines forward and back for normal height cars. Can only hang back so far before fixed obstructions block sightlines. I deal with this daily leaving my neighborhood.
Full-Respect-8261@reddit
You just told someone to pull directly into a huge blind spot for a semi and stay there, please reasise you basically told some ro take thier lives into thier own hands as we can't see them at all and may die unintentionally at any moment.
glitterfaust@reddit
As a former truck driver, why would it matter if they’re about to turn right and we’re going straight or potentially left? If it was two right lanes, sure, but it’s not. You shouldn’t be turning across another lane anyway because of this.
MystMyBoard@reddit
I use my spot mirrors to see these people, often. Especially when I’m making a left hand turn and they’re turning right.
If I’m making a right hand turn in my tractor, I’ll have my blinker on, discouraging anyone paying attention from pulling up in my blind spot.
Full-Respect-8261@reddit
Use those and that damn side sensor that never works with a damn, but that area is not easily seen. Running right next to you and staying there is just bad advice.
MystMyBoard@reddit

justanotherwave00@reddit
I think it’s competitiveness. They see you pull ahead and they must think of it as some kind of power move and then try to counter your power move by pulling ahead of you, so you know who is “in charge”.
Maybe I’m wrong, but if it isn’t malice it has to be plain old stupidity and that sucks, as well.
Teknikal_Domain@reddit
Plain old stupidity. Monkey see monkey do. Person crept forwards so I crept forwards. There is no malice because there is no thought

Let me fix that for you. Assholes. I refuse to believe anyone is that oblivious.

and this leads to both cars competing for sight which puts them both out into the highway at rick for a t bone.
rusticatedrust@reddit
I drive a semi, as well as a pickup that puts me at eye level with the semi's tires. One cool trick you can do at relatively open intersections is stop a car length behind the stop line. Most drivers ignore the stop lines, so you can look at cross traffic from behind them. Works in my semi, as well as my pickup, and everything in between.

justinh2@reddit
Pulling out in front of you where? If they aren't blocking the crosswalk, it's a you and your car problem.
BrassHockey@reddit
Tacking on people who sit smack in the center of a driveway clearly wide enough for left turns, right turns, and people pulling in. Not leaving enough space for people turning right to get on with their lives.
TrollCannon377@reddit
Or the people who pull over to the right while waiting to turn left onto a side street and block people from going around them causing a huge traffic jam while they wait and miss several opportunities to go
neilmod@reddit
They do that because the people turning right are exactly the people OP is complaining about. There's an intersection near my house where it often can take a little while to get a break in traffic if you're turning left. If you leave room, people will pull to the right of you to make a right turn and completely block your view of traffic coming from the right, meaning you have to wait until they make their turn before you can even think about making your turn. I now pull far enough to the right that they can't get alongside me.
RPK79@reddit
...But if it's not clear for them to take a right it is not clear for you to take a left so just let them pull up because they'll be gone before you anyway.
neilmod@reddit
No - the geometry of the intersection is such that cars turning right block view of traffic coming from the right until they have completed their turn and begun to move up the road. I have, on many occasions, missed an opportunity to make my left turn because I could not confirm that no traffic was coming due to the presence of a car turning right..
Stew_New@reddit
No, it's the people turning left that blocks seeing traffic from the right.
neilmod@reddit
At the intersection I'm describing, there is no separate lane for right turns. There is only one lane, but drivers will nevertheless pull up alongside traffic waiting to turn left if given the option. (The roadway is physically wide enough to allow this if cars waiting to turn left are positioned close to the center of the roadway.)
ExqueeriencedLesbian@reddit
so you block traffic because you are a bad driver?
Accurate_Maybe6575@reddit
No, they block traffic because, as they explained, asshole drivers in taller vehicles pull up next to them and block their view of traffic coming from the right when they're trying to make a left turn.
And the taller vehicle sometimes does it on purpose. I tried to turn out right but a taller SUV pulls up on my left, so I pull a little forward to see around them, then they pull a little forward for no practical reason, there was no tree or visual obstacle to their left at all, and their passenger was definitely looking down at me clearly watching.
Took everything i had not to get out of my car and start hammering windows. Some people will push even a coward to go apeshit on them.
So moral of the story - it might be a dick move, but it ultimately is the safer one because dickwaffles can't dickwaffle effectively while behind you.
nomadiccrackhead@reddit

ExqueeriencedLesbian@reddit
im not reading all that
sorry that happened to you or congratulations or whatever
neilmod@reddit
No, I don’t give impatient assholes the option to screw me over instead of waiting their turn. This is a one lane road with no turn lanes.
ExqueeriencedLesbian@reddit
you probably should have stated that
RejectorPharm@reddit
Some people think that if there is enough room for 1-2-3 cars, it’s okay to form 1-2-3 lanes even though there are no markings. I see people doing this all the time on backed up exit ramps.
VoodooVillager@reddit
I'm about to start doing this because it happens every day to me
LameBMX@reddit
your poor time management is not their problem.
neilmod@reddit
What does time management have to do with it? I’m talking about people not willing to wait their turn, so I don’t give them the option. To be clear, this is a one lane road; there’s no turn lanes.
LameBMX@reddit
time management means having time to wait at a known bad intersection. and if there is room for two vehicles, it's not a one lane road. it would at least be a two lane road and you would be in the oncoming lane.
mojoburquano@reddit
You are a parking lot pirate and I’m here for it.
osborn1201@reddit
Exit to my neighborhood is like this. And the traffic lights on either side of the main road are timed it so that during busy hours, you are constantly having traffic from one side or the other. And you definitely have to gun for any small gaps available to make a left turn out from the neighborhood.
there is no lane markers and assholes keep creating their own right turn lane. So I always go straight in the middle of my half of the street with my left blinker on. Sometimes assholes would still drives onto the sidewalk to create their own right turn lane though. But I make sure to roll down my window to tell "thanks now I can't see shit assholes"
Europia79@reddit
Bro, if it's that difficult to make a left-hand turn, then just go Right and make a Left into a parking lot: Then you'll be able to make a Right out of the parking lot and it's the same direction as Left: Only, faster & easier, with less hassle, and way less dangerous.
Also, in some areas, it's legal to make a Right then a U-turn.
Like, I have seen many locations where you're allowed to make a Left, but because Traffic is so dense, it's practically impossible: This is where these tricks really come in handy. Yet, for some reason, I always see people sitting forever to make these "dangerous & impossible" Lefts: It's crazy. Just WHY ?
osborn1201@reddit
I mean, it's not impossible until some douchbags decided to block your view to make it impossible.
Europia79@reddit
Obviously, I'm talking about other locations that I've seen.
Sounds dangerous: Why risk it when you have safer alternatives ? Doesn't sound very smart.
osborn1201@reddit
I mean it's not that dangerous as long as you can see. Streets with no lane markers are supposed to be treated as 1 lane. Just don't be a giant douche and block peoples view if you want to skip the line and split lanes.

ThePocketPanda13@reddit
I'm not even in a low car, I'm in an SUV. Theres nothing worse when you're trying to make a right hand turn so you're inching forward to see any oncoming traffic and the guy next to you also starts inching forward. Like dude you're the one I'm trying to see around.
MystMyBoard@reddit
There’s nothing worse than when I’m looking to make a left hand turn and have to consider at least two lanes of traffic coming from two different directions. Then someone in a SUV starts inching their way forward blocking my line of sight on one of the TWO lanes of traffic. Sure, they could have simply hung back just a bit to see behind my vehicle, because they only have to consider ONE lane of traffic when making their right hand turn. But hey, it’s all about what we want right.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Why do you need to inch forward to turn left at a light?
MystMyBoard@reddit
Why are you injecting another variable now? “There was no mention of a light before. I clearly stated a left hand turn.
Yes, if you want to create another scenario where someone is looking to go straight at a light, to save face.
Yes, it’s annoying.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Because if you're trying to turn left on a multi lane road there is a light. Always.
There is literally no scenario outside of 3rd world countries in which the situation you described does not have a light.
ninjette847@reddit
Wtf are you talking about? I can think of 2 within a block of me. Shit there are highways you have a stop sign to turn across, like 30 in Indiana.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
The stop signs on highways aren't true intersections and have nothing to do with the scenario
ninjette847@reddit
There are turn lanes, I literally have no idea what you're talking about. https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/intersection
LameBMX@reddit
ohio would like to have a word with you. lots of side streets don't have lights into 3+ lane roads.
that said, I can't say I've seen more than two lanes without a left turn lane. and the law around here is you should make a left turn onto a road with a left turn lane, by turning into the left turn lane, stop (really only done when needed though it's wrote to stop), and then merge right into the regular flow of traffic.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Okay but trying to turn onto a multi lane road from a single lane road still doesn't fit the scenario because there would be nobody next to you inching forward
playnmt@reddit
Have you never seen a left turn lane on a side street?
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Since when do side streets have 3 or more lanes?
playnmt@reddit
Turn lanes, not travel lanes
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
That's still 1. Not a side street, and 2. still more than 3 lanes
playnmt@reddit
Here are 4 instances in my small town where the scenario could play out. 3 are side streets meeting a multi lane highway and one is an interstate off ramp. https://imgur.com/a/urOtwgU
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Okay? So I'm still confused as to why you're supporting bad driving?
playnmt@reddit

ThePocketPanda13@reddit

ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Further back.
playnmt@reddit
I know, again you were arguing one cannot turn left on a multi lane road without a light. …again yes you can. You asked another commenter if they knew the difference between a right turn and a left turn. You WERE being dense by arguing against something that is easily provable.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Way farther back.
playnmt@reddit

ThePocketPanda13@reddit

birbdaughter@reddit
When leaving my street, I need to make a left. There is a stop sign, no traffic light. There is a lane in both directions. When people pull up beside me to make a right, I can’t tell if I’m safe to turn.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
You're street has an illegal stop sign and you haven't reported it?
birbdaughter@reddit
How is that illegal?? It’s a side street that goes into a main street, essentially forming a T. A stop sign there is 100% expected.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
It breaks traffic law. Didn't think I had to explain what illegal meant.
birbdaughter@reddit
What fucking law does it break to have a stop sign on this street? Unless you can explain what California law is being broken, I’ll assume you’re making stuff up.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Stop signs must only be used to regulate the flow of traffic in not busy intersections while stop lights must be used to regulated the flow of traffic in busy intersections. Since that's a multi lane road intersecting with a multi lane road it's considered a busy intersection and thus requires a stop light. Thats an illegal stop sign
birbdaughter@reddit
Dude California just replaced the traffic lights at a four way intersection in one city with stop signs fairly recently. So evidently no. This isn’t illegal.
Your argument would also ban all 4 way stops, which is obviously not the case. You’re making shit up.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Where did I say all 4 way intersections are considered busy intersections? I really suggest brushing up on your traffic law because this stuff is not hard to understand.
birbdaughter@reddit
Well given that you think 2 lanes total (one your direction, one opposing) is multi lane and thus busy if it intersects with any multi lane road, no 4 way stop works because it was always be 2 lanes total in each direction.
ThePocketPanda13@reddit
Oh boy it seems you need some reading comprehension too.
How exactly is somebody pulling up next to you if the other lane is the opposing lane?
birbdaughter@reddit
Because they are illegally passing on the right. Which was entirely non-sequitur because the general point was you claiming that turning onto a multi lane road will always have a light, but I turn onto a 3-lane road (2 going left, 1 going right) and there isn’t a light.

MystMyBoard@reddit

What I find worse is people turning left at a light, and they position to the extreme far right of the lane. So if you're turning right in the opposite direction, neither of you can see anything because their dumb ass has blocked the angles.
There is no reason for a passenger vehicle to position to the right of a left hand turn lane. There is no reason to angle diagonally so that when you get rear-ended you're pushed into oncoming traffic (and you're making a larger visual obstacle). Learn to fucking drive.
Khedsan@reddit
This!! If I pull up to an intersection and someone is doing that on the other side, I intentionally go as far right in my left turn lane as I can go, hoping they'll realize how it feels.
Europia79@reddit
WTF are you talking about kid ? That makes absolutely no sense at all.
Epidurality@reddit
Tip: bad drivers don't know they're bad. They'll either just claim you're a bad driver, or (and almost worse since it shows a complete lack of awareness which in my opinion is much more scary) they'll not even realize what's wrong, why they can't see, but they'll just inch further and further into the intersection until someone stops or the light changes.
Striking-Drawers@reddit
I'm very happy at intersections when I need to turn right where the left lane is pushed back a little, not that this stops everyone.
I dunno, it's hard to explain stupid people.
WaterDreamer10@reddit
If you want to see....get a taller vehicle.
That being said, yes, most times if a vehicle is turning left I will pull up on the right, but only enough where I can see what I need to, and also allowing them to see the traffic coming from the opposite side. Once I have a clearing I will pull out and go though.
However, there are times I will block their view.....that tends to be if they are cruising well below the PSL and I am stuck behind them for a bit. Then I might sit there a bit so they can't see and it is entertaining as some get a bit frustrated which just makes me laugh.....like...oh....now you are suddenly in a hurry?! No, you can sit here a little while longer thanks. Or if they pulled out and cut me off badly shortly before.

Just wait for them to go and go at the same time 💯

I rarely drive my truck but when I do I know it’s tall. You’d be surprised how many people freak out when I’m being nice. Like leaving room or getting behind them not in front because I know you can’t see around me. In the mornings going to work or later at night when it pretty dark, I even cut my lights to parking lights at long stop lights. Some are freaked out but most give a wave. Haha. Had one even teal out the window and say thanks.

Idk, pisses me off. It’s always when I’m trying to make a right on red. Bitch, the light has been red for 20 seconds. Why did you decide to move 3ft over the stop bar?

All I ask is that the people trying to turn left... Stop pulling halfway into the intersection...
Us simple folks making right turns need to see past you and are going to be turning before you most times anyway... Stop behind the damn line.
Even worse when the windows are tinted drug dealer black.

I always stop further back, so if/when a larger vehicle pulls out next to me they end up slightly in front of me, so I can watch the cross traffic from behind their vehicle. There's still a big blind spot, but if you're watching you can know what cars are coming and which ones have passed to be able to know when it's clear to make your maneuver.
Normal cars in red, my little car in blue, and purple dashes are lines of sight.

This happens to me at roundabouts in my town. I drive a compact, and an enormous pavement princess will pull up in the lane to my left, and I can't see anything. The only thing I can do is sit and wait until I have visibility.
Kahne_Fan@reddit
My neighborhood allows for 2 people at our exit (1 turning left, 1 turning right). People will constantly pull up past me (I drive a truck) where I can't see, and it frustrates the heck out of me. If someone is at the stop when I pull up, I always stop short so they can see and I'll wait until they go before I fully pull up. I was with my wife once when she pulled past someone already at the sign and I told her "now they can't see", her response was "well, I need to see to turn." I mentioned that they were there first, but I don't think it sunk in.

These bigger cars cause so much problems for me in my tiny car and I’m sick of it. I DONT WANT A BIGGER CAR! But I might have to get one to avoid the annoyances of bigger vehicles. “You can’t beat em, join em.”
I’m tired of the situation you explained, I’m tired of driving at night and everyone having their headlights shined directly in my face, I’m tired of them parking beside me making it harder to back out, I’m just sick of them but why the hell does everyone seem to drive one ? Sedans are cheaper so why are but trucks and SUVs so popular?

The other day an SUV driver flashed her lights at my Honda Civic when we were facing each other, both about to turn left off a main road. Appreciate the gesture, but I can’t see the lane next to you, madam. I need a universal symbol for “I can’t see over you, so you’re going to have to turn first.”

I experience this when parking a lot. I’m sorry but if your truck is hanging out 2 feet past the lines then it shouldn’t be there!!

happened to me at waiting to turn onto a main street where ongoing traffic does not stop. i was trying to turn right and a lifted ram 1500 pulls up next to me in the left lane, and i cannot see anymore. i tried to creep forward but i couldnt go too far bc i would be in the road. i had to wait until the truck went so i could go. just why dude…
zerthwind@reddit
I found that when I got yo turn right, I would pull up to the side of the car, turning left so I could see the coming traffic past the back of the car. Cars Don't pull up if you don't block thir view. Userly, I will get the opening to go before they do.

Driving a larger suv I don’t pull up more and let others get a field of view because I can see pretty well sitting high up. Not many other trucks/suvs get the memo.
PixelCultMedia@reddit
Everyone has a lifted vehicle nowadays. If you're driving a normal car, you need to be looking for sight lines before you reach the intersection. Otherwise, you just have to sit tight until they move.
Even then, preemptively watching traffic can distract you from noticing pedestrians coming from the opposite direction. So it's usually safest to just calm down and wait until it's safe.
mwf67@reddit
The very reason we advised our daughters to drive vehicles higher off the ground but with the modern high lift trucks of today… it doesn’t matter. I have a full size SUV and he has an older 4x4 double cab short bed that could fit inside some of these trucks and we tow 7K lbs often. I drove my dad’s truck to high school, my bro is a diesel mechanic and owns a racing team. I’m no stranger to trucks and that environment and empathize I with you. Their behavior and lack of awareness is a menace.
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

IKR! Nor a 4x4 as mentioned that’s even higher! Glad I have exceptional defensive driving skills but wouldn’t from a racing and LEO fam. My dad and bro definitely prepared me for the lack of etiquette driving skills.

what ive started doing at this one intersection where its ALWAYS a problem, I stop to look in the gap between the car at the stop sign and the one behind it. So im stopping like ~20-25 feet back from the intersection so I can see the one lane of traffic i need to account for.
Minute-Detail-3859@reddit
YES! I started doing this, and it works so well. Firstly, people leave huge gaps between the car and the car in front of them at stopped lights, so I get a surprisingly large field of vision. On top of that, it lets me see upcoming traffic way before I would have if I had just peeked the nose of the car in front of the one already 5ft over the stop line. It also prevents me from blocking the pedestrian path while waiting for a chance to go (and I'm huge on pedestrian rights). It also allows for acceleration before the actual turning, making the turn way quicker than it would have been if I had to accelerate while turning.
The biggest thing, though, is that expanded field of vision—it's easier to see anything when it is oriented more toward the front of you rather than at 90° to the left or right of you, especially when you have to do multiple rapid 180-degree turns with your head to check the whole area. It's way easier to stay back to get a bigger picture than to try to piece together many different, quickly changing views.
realityinflux@reddit
That's super annoying. I think it's unconscious behavior, mostly, but I wish people would think farther than what's in front of their noses. If I pull next to a car and see they are trying to turn and need visibility, it's only polite to hang back since they were there first. What I find really annoying is when I want to turn right and a car or truck in the inside lane pulls so far forward--for no reason, since they are going straight and just waiting for the light to change--and I can't make my right-turn-on-red without pulling across the cross walk or getting too far out.
Then, just to add to the fun, the car behind me honks because I'm not making my turn.
Key-Ad-1873@reddit
Tldr:: trucks are big and long, we have to pull our body just as far forward to see around the same thing you are looking past to see the road, which means our giant nose is sticking further out. This does not excuse being ignorant/unaware of this, and some of us hold back on purpose (making it so the truck driver can't see anything) so that others can see and pull out first, this is what I do but at some point I have to pull forward to see as well. I understand your frustration, but to some extent there's nothing I can do about it. Yes I can see over your car but that doesn't help seeing past obstructions like trees along the road. Sorry you have to deal with it, I have to as well when I drive a focus, so I have the perspective from both sides, there's only so much I can do when I'm in the truck without hurting my ability to see and pull out as well.
This is definitely a case by case thing (at least for me, as all intersections are different. I drive a truck and I try to be aware of if I'm blocking another's view, but at some point I have to be able to see to pull out as well. I say this because the drivers seat in trucks sit much farther back than in small cars (the engine is bigger and sits longitudinal, not transverse, so our hood is longer, there is generally more dash and seat adjustments, meaning the cab is longer as well, this has been my experience of owning/driving a few different cars and trucks and passengering in many more). Because of this, we have to pull further forward just to see, blocking the view for most others.
Let me paint a picture for you. At a multilane intersection, two right turn only lanes, the roads are not perpendicular but at a slight angle and the drivers turning right are looking towards the acute side, so trees on the shoulder partially block the view of the road which is mostly straight. One car is in the second turn only lane going to the closest lane (the one on the right), and I in my truck am in the first turn only lane which goes to the further away lane. In this situation I have two options, either block everyone's view so I can see to get out, or stop further back so others can see, but never be able to see to get out myself. It's a lose lose situation. Btw this is a real intersection I go through weekly or more. Yes there is the option of going into the other turn lane, but many times I'm towing a trailer and then I can't get into the other lane which I need in less than half a mile (people are jerks and block you when you have a trailer lol)
Another picture example I have is left and right turns next to each other out of a parking lot. Again the truck front bumper to driver distance is longer. If I'm turning left, I have to pull out further than the guy turning right to see both lanes and my vehicle has a longer nose, meaning it blocks your view so I can see. If I'm turning left and you're turning right, I don't have to pull as far up but again the nose sticks further out which means I'm still pulling up just as far.
These examples are not to excuse bad behaviors. I'm just explaining myself. Yes I can see over your car, but I can't see through trees so I have to pull up just as much which means my nose sticks out further and blocks the view for someone. Yes I do try to be aware of this and hang back to let others see first before pulling up myself, but at some point I have to turn too. This does not excuse others and them just being ignorant of their big blockage, I am aware and try to let others see first before pulling up but others may not be aware. This does not excuse others blatantly blocking view on purpose, some people are just dicks.
