OKAY, so now that we have some certainly on the presidency, what are we going to see the will actually impact our prepping?
I'm still on the boat we're going to see a recession because its already happening, 2, I'm bearish oil... they will "drill baby drill" themselves into stupidly low prices / profits. BTC is already going wild, the DXY is hammering the commodities markets and metals. I am also a bit concerned about the level of tariffs on top of the tariffs they've already thrown on everything. They're not going to let a huge part of the bubble deflate through that.
_rihter@reddit
Look at the market cap of Tether. That's just fake dollar printing that's propping up the entire crypto market.
DwarvenRedshirt@reddit
I'm hopeful a lot of the misc fires in the world will settle down.
I think that Europe's going to be expected to put more money behind their words. Which may force the Ukraine and Russia to setting things faster. No more "We support America sending billions to the Ukraine for us."
I think the Israel/Iran situation is going to come to a head faster, with sanctions being re-imposed on Iran.
Both of those should help keep more money in the US. The military industrial complex may be unhappy though.
I'm doubtful inflation will change immediately.
I think the tariffs are going to be a wait and see. The thing to note on that is that they're a negotiating tool. As long as you get the actions you want from the threats of tariffs, the tariffs won't happen.
I'm hopeful there will be a lot more oil production, netting lower gas/diesel prices. If you want a booming economy, cutting the transportation costs is huge (yuuuge?)
Immigration is going to be interesting to watch. I'm wondering if they're going to break apart Illegal and legal migrants again (vs calling them the same thing).
thisbliss2@reddit
The military industrial complex is going to be miserable. When Dick Cheney endorsed Kamala, it was because he had dollar signs in his eyes. The spigot dried up under Trump.

I was not going to vote. I think both left and right CAN and ARE extremely cringe with how they are trying to get my vote. Terrible celebrities endorsing them ect. After I watched the JRE interview though, I Saw a human talking with another human. I also saw someone who the media said was an actual idiot talk at length about complex issues that the other candidate would never talk about. So, I will be voting.
I will prep regardless, and I also think since both candidates want war, im F’d regardless in that respect. Otherwise I would vote for the anti war one.
DwarvenRedshirt@reddit
I think it's good as long as you are making the decision, one way or the other. It's the people too lazy to bother that get me.

A vote for fascism. Please don't.
Lost_Poem7495@reddit
I have not actually decided yet. Considering i just get downvoted without an actual concerned explanation or comment from others does not help. But I really dont think we will get facism. Using that term flippantly is a little ridiculous, unless you can explain why.
swadekillson@reddit
I am a straight, white, male, veteran, who fought in Afghanistan. I said all that just so you have an idea of where I'm coming from.
20 years ago, I'd have been a Republican if I was old enough to vote. However, the Right has shifted a lot further right than they were.
I'd invite you to compare and contrast Reagan Speeches and Policies with those of Biden and Trump. You'd see that Reagan and Biden are actually fairly close. And that Trump, Trump is something else altogether.
A lot of folks dismiss the more wild statements that Trump makes as just talk. I heard again and again that he'd never do X or Y. Then he was elected and did or attempted to do X and Y.
Here's I think, how I'd break it down.
Your pocket getting pinched is a real thing. But, there are signs it's improving.
1A. In states where wages have been allowed to rise, wages have mostly paced inflation. And business aren't going bankrupt from it. I live in NM, one of the poorest states. We let our wages increase and our economy is actually doing well (by our standards.) a reasonable comparator to us, OK is having a harder time. As they have dealt with inflation, but have kept wages down.
If we pull back, we will see an uptick in global violence which is bad for the people caught in those situations. But it's also bad for the American Economy.
And Trump wants us to pull back. The World where America is the dominant force is good for America and okay for the world.
A world where we turn inwards is good for China and Russia. And bad for everyone else across South and North America, Africa and Asia.
From a basic character perspective. Harris is often hit with having slept her way to power. It's not accurate. She hasn't slept with the dude for 20 years and has LONG passed him. But even IF it was true, that pales in comparison to a guy who talks about grabbing women by their pussies (that's sexual assault) shits on the families of our fallen Soldiers (compare and contrast how Bush II death with personal attacks of Soldiers families versus how Trump does there is a WORLD of difference.) And absolutely wildly paid to fuck a pornstar while his pregnant wife was at home. I mean seriously, who thinks that's a high character move? Good golly.
Finally Sir, look at Musk and Rogan. They're both brilliant businessmen driven by profit. They're with Trump, because it's profitable for them. Elon has dozens of clips across the Internet over the years talking about how he is an Atheist.
Now, all of the Sudden he gets right with Trump and is a Christian? He is playing a game because he sees financial game for himself of Trump is reelected.
Also Sir, I'd ask that you take a look at Elon's very recent statement. To paraphrase he basically says the American economy and Americans will suffer for the first couple years of the next Trump Administration. Then it'll be worth it. But he does not actually explain the details.
Sir, I hope that my writing here encourages you to look at the angles I've presented so you can make your own informed vote.
May God save us all

That is what a lot of people are afraid of happening. The United States influence is being pulled from the world stage. China, Russia, and Iran have sailed their navies into the Caribbean Sea and have been making ports of call in Venezuela and Cuba, China is making moves in Haiti, in addition to getting ports on the eastern coasts of Africa. The status quo scares me and a lot of people I talk to during the day. My youngest son is old enough to be drafted. Military recruitment and retention is down tremendously. Heck, I went to college on a state military scholarship that went unused for the past few years because no one wanted to complete the additional 4 years service after college.
Looking at at the two party system, I see the globalist republicans backing democrats. Dick Cheney is a war criminal was a chant by democrats since the 1990s and now it is "we love Cheneys!".
I've consistently voted libertarian for over 40 years, have served in the military, live in a rural area, and work with a lot of blue collar people (land surveying, land development, construction, electrical linemen, etc.). A lot of people I talk to don't like either candidate and don't like the direction of the country, and that is all across the spectrum (racial, ethnic, union/non-union, and immigration status). There is a lot of pent up resentment in my fly-over region against the media for being a propaganda machine, and Washington or the federal government as being overreaching and needs to be cut back.
Regardless of who wins, the status quo will be held, though. Neither Harris nor Trump will make the necessary changes to get our national debt under control, eliminate the constraints of the federal government for businesses to freely operate, and the securing of these United States.
The other thing I know is no matter who wins, the sun will still rise in the east, I'll still love my family and neighbors, and the world will still turn.

Today is Election Day.
Basic preps are covered, and there's little threat of anything significant happening locally. Despite this I have an anxiety I haven't felt during any previous election.
Please everyone, stay safe.
iwannaddr2afi@reddit
Purplish semi rural area here. Just voted in person, cause we like to.
Polls were peaceful as always. People discussing good turnout. No/very short wait.
Now we're home and staying in. Who knows what will happen in a coin flip election like this, but I did my silly little civic duty with no issues and don't expect anything else at my door.
In terms of prepping, we're ready for it to be like any other Tuesday, so even if it's a bad Tuesday for some unforeseen reason, we'll be aight.
I hope everyone stays safe and peaceful as well. I hope people's expectations are reasonable and flexible wrt results.

With the bombardment of propaganda and misinformation coming in from all sides and countries, I've continued to be mindful of consumption of that data and step back from the false reality these tiny screens can make.
Getting outside, manual labor, projects, hobbies, etc. to not only decompress but avoid the pointless rhetoric.
I've noticed as I have increased this behavior, I've realized how people seem to be controlled by emotions like fear and essentially walking zombie slaves. It makes me sad that this is the way we are heading.
But at the same time I've been able to make connections with people who have also "disconnected" and built a sense of community who you know will have your back when SHTF even if we have different underlying beliefs.
Strange_Lady_Jane@reddit
Now watch how many people are controlled by advertisements and emotionally driven headlines. I'm working to limit my reaction to any ads and to check my reaction to any headlines without further research. I wish news was news without the personal commentary.
Sunaverda@reddit
Ads have the opposite effect on me for products anyway. If I see something advertised I get suspicious.
Strange_Lady_Jane@reddit
This is part of what I am trying to train into myself. I'm not necessarily aiming for suspicious, though that is sometimes the case. More just always questioning, not reacting immediately to anything.
Sunaverda@reddit
You don’t necessarily have to police your reactions and beat yourself up over these things. Just ask if it aligns with your values. I base my buying off of materials mostly. Microfibre and teflon do not align with my values for example. A shit ton of things are made with that stuff so it’s easy to not be bought with those advertisements. And stainless steel is always available at the thrift store. If some cleaning product is like promising me that it will solve all my issues, I think yeah but better than bleach/cleaning vinegar or dawn? Prob not 🤷🏻♀️. I do love sponge daddy’s tho. Yes microplastics but I figure I reduce enough in other areas. Or like new organizational stuff. I’m like ok but is this plastic container going to change my life more than a wooden box/tin/woven basket from the thrift? Prob not.
eveebobevee@reddit
Yeah, it takes some practice and without going into the spiritual/philosophical hole, simple observance and mindful behavior helps to detach from the desired outcome the media wants to create for it's consumers.
Midnight2012@reddit
Yup, fear of stupid non-political issues is distracting us from solving the real problems that government is ideal to handle.
Culture issues are not political. Does either side want the government to regulate the way people live their lives? I thought this was America...

Heard that BYD is basically crippling the global automotive market (can't share the numbers, unfortunately.) The US seems to be largely safe for now due to our unique regulations around imported vehicles. But, the future of the industry here and abroad is very much in turmoil.
loralailoralai@reddit
Crippling how? How surprising Americans are afraid of a Chinese company lol
iridescent-shimmer@reddit
I mean, personally, I don't care. I hate cars and the auto industry. But, I know quite a significant number of Americans and even Europeans depend on the auto industry, so worth keeping an eye to the future in case you need to consider your career and providing for your family. Make it a personal insult all you want.
AntiSonOfBitchamajig@reddit (OP)
I agree, with how cheap some of these vehicles are getting from China, even with import taxes... its eye opening.

Was at my elections office yesterday talking to an official. In all of Oregon, only 3 votes were destroyed in ballot box burning incidents. (Many more were lost in the incidents in Washington). The ballot boxes now all have fire suppression/extinguishing units enclosed. The security at the entire building was very tight and was reassuring.

I worked at USPS for 10 years and while I think it's a valuable organization it's been circling the drain for even longer. DeJoy hasn't done any favors, certainly, especially with slowing first class mail down by making it a ground service instead of an air one but he's the latest putrefaction on an already damaged system. There's also another ongoing round of plant closures that hasn't gotten as much attention as it should. During 2020 the workforce also lost a lot of the old experienced hands and the USPS is pretty big on pinching staffing levels far below where they should actually be. Miserable people also unsurprisingly don't perform amazingly, and so there's just this miasma over everything, couldn't do it anymore personally.
Long ramble short, I'm not mailing my own ballot. The people I knew and worked with over the years were doing their best with the ballots but I have the time and ability to go vote in person this year so I will.
HappyAnimalCracker@reddit
I certainly never noticed any significant problems as a customer until DeJoy took over. Sounds like the postal employees were doing a great job to accomplish that!

Idk, I fear we are seeing a repeat of the last election between Hillary and Don the Con. I get urging one another to vote but I’m not, once again, seeing enough concern voiced about the role of the electoral college. People should be urging each other to vote but it’s like they think this is a situation where it’s only the people who will select the next president. When they’re forgetting about electoral college delegates and “super delegates” who will be the ones that actually decide in our convoluted system of voting.
I was on Bernie’s campaign and was a state delegate. If anyone has ever witnessed electoral math and how it’s chosen which candidate will move forward, they wouldn’t be so confident in their individual votes. Those DO matter of course and people should never sit out on their vote. But not enough is talked about or done about that segment of the voting process. Super delegate positions can be bought by anyone with enough money. I think it would be prudent to go all in on getting rid of the electoral college altogether as it’s a very outdated system. But it’s like it gets forgotten until votes are being counted and the process continues on as it has since the whole system began.
I don’t believe DJT won fairly and squarely the first time and I fear that’s what’s happening again. Between Russian interference, Israeli disinformation campaigns (that is a separate, massive issue on top of their whole genocide right now), and other parties who have interest in swaying US elections, it’s not like each individual vote is being tallied and that’s the end of it: person with the most votes wins, because that’s not how this actually works.
All of this is to say unless Kamala wins, we are all in deep shit. Though I can’t stand how the people didn’t even get to pick the dem candidate this time. The DNC simply said “this is who the candidate is”, and that’s that. They basically did that with Hillary too, but we at least had the illusion of choice in selecting the candidate last time…until we didn’t and they chose the less popular candidate to represent the DNC. Bernie had the popularity and momentum, but he wasn’t in bed with corporate interests and this wasn’t installed.
iridescent-shimmer@reddit
Superdelegates are unique to Democratic Party primaries? They have nothing to do with the electoral college or even general elections, just fyi. I can guarantee you though that plenty of us are very well aware of the groundwork needed in swing states to tip the EC. Here in PA, we do not FAFO when it comes to Trump post 2016.

eveebobevee@reddit
That would be all fine if we were a simple country without states. We are the United States, and State rights are crucial to the country as a whole. What you propose would likely cause many states to leave the union and cause even more division than what corporate donors are doing today.
