One problem is that CFR can shift dramatically if hospitals, ambulance services, and etc get overwhelmed. Another problem is that if the virus mutates to spread H2H or mixes with another virus in pigs & jumps to us, it might have the feared disease severity. Also, we don’t know much about recent bird flu cases- we don’t get any kind of clear plentiful information like we got with early covid cases. Also, farm workers are catching the virus and (I’m assuming) are physically strong healthy people who might do better with the virus.
Lastly, if this virus does become a problem and the CFR is high, a large portion of our country will likely refuse to believe it… resulting in catastrophic loss of life…
People are already pulling out the "WE WILL NOT COMPLY" and a few states are telling the CDC to get bent in terms of testing at all, so I wouldn't be surprised if people say a vaccine is what's REALLY killing people instead of H5
An influenza epidemic like 1919 would sweep through faster than most of the population are prepared for, and that's if the population had trust in the government.
Yup, the population was a lot more trusting of the government in 1919 than they are post-COVID. With how politicized COVID became, there's less trust of the government and in turn, a lot more people who may refuse to take any precautions once news comes out that H5 has gone H2H
Does anyone estimate these things?
The rest of your post is garbage but the question of what percent is valid.
The lower ones could be more insidious if the infection time to appearance of disease is longer so time also matters
Do you remember when swine flu happened? Wanna know what swine flu was?
You people with your doom and gloom based off the television is insane.
It's a new flu it will get most people sick it will kill elderly and people with specific health conditions and within a year there will be a vaccine for those people and it will be an annual one worst case scenario.
The elderly and people with health conditions deserve to live, you know. Saying it’s ok if old and “weak” people is eugenics.
Besides, with all the shit we injest and breathe in every day from microplastics to air pollution, etc. do you really think the majority of us don’t have some kind of health condition?
Yes those people deserve to live but using them to steal the freedom of everyone else is not right. The way we handled Covid did so much economic damage to the world and the virus propagated to everyone anyways. Complete sham that a teenager could have done a better job handling
If your options are everyone gets affected and you don't ruin the economy or everyone's affected and you do ruin the economy it's a pretty easy choice. I guess I just yearn for the days when an onion didn't cost $1.80
If you can't find criticisms of the Covid response I don't know what to tell you. Everyone got the virus anyways so what did we accomplish by financially ruining ourselves?
There is an argument for acceptable death and destruction but not for COVID. Like the native Americans and European diseases, our immune systems were not ready.
At least I am vaccinated and do have the mask for the crowded train bus
Comparing apples to oranges or in this case virus to bacteria. Plague isn't all that scary, unless you don't have access to the antibiotics. Or if there's some antibiotic resistant plague. 😬
The 3 in Washington state are related to infected poultry California has been having its dairy herds infected with H5N1 and workers have been contracting it from said dairy so unless otherwise specified it seems like another case of avian/diary cow transmission

Don’t worry trumps got us!

How's the fatality rate holding up?
I was assured it was 50% by some here and on other forums?
Got downvoted for suggesting it was not anywhere near that high in developed countries...

Flat_Boysenberry1669@reddit
Let's be honest it will be lower than 1% in reality they will use all the elderly stats to juice the numbers and this will be covid 2.0 if trump wins.

The disease spread to everyone Einstein. All we did was fuck ourselves financially (middle class) while the rich got vastly more rich
Flat_Boysenberry1669@reddit
Didn't say they don't deserve to live right away you attempt an emotional response to reality and science.
If I were you I would more worried about ww3 than any of those things.

Plus many people were healthy prior to covid and now have lots of health issues. Our immune systems are not what they once were.
