'Its ugly'. That's all I can think about when I look at any modern Ferrari
Mgears_Korea@reddit
Awesome wow!!
jawnlerdoe@reddit
A convertible XX car seems weird to me.
BMW_M1KR@reddit
Additional revenue does not sound weird to Ferrari, hence a convertible XX
jawnlerdoe@reddit
They really sold out the XX brand.
Exotic_Pollution8346@reddit
is there any brand that hasn't diluted it's sports line? lol
DanielG165@reddit
Well, the Corvette, Camaro, McLaren, Viper, and Porsche*, to name a few. Two of those lines are no longer with us, but still.
Sexyturtletime@reddit
Porsche has definitely diluted its sports line. Carrera used to be for the high performance 911s and now it’s the base model.
Corvette, Camero, and Viper aren’t performance brands, they’re a single model.

Mclaren did use “LT” for its modern road cars including spiders, despite the fact that the road going LTs are barely longer than the original cars. The original F1 LT is very far removed from the current LTs
I dont personally care about its a pretty close comparison to Ferrari using “XX” on road cars
yashdes@reddit
Yeah McLaren is the only one on that list that I don't agree with tbh
ZannX@reddit
Oh nooo, that's why you're not getting one now right?
jawnlerdoe@reddit
Let me know when you intend to add something tangible to the conversation.
Recoil42@reddit
They're sobbing hard into their giant piles of money.
hockeyjmac@reddit
The basically sold out the XX brand because the sf90 was the only modern Ferrari since before the pandemic reselling under msrp and they were afraid of not being able to sell the sf90 “Pista”
Kmaaq@reddit
It was actually supposed to be a full on track only XX car, but they weren't able to beat the FXX-K's lap time so it was watered down to the version we got which is basically an SF90 with minor tweaks. Nonetheless it's one of my favorite looking Ferraris.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
I believe the original name was supposed to be "le mans"/LM but that fell through due to some trademark issues.
I feel like putting the XX label on any road car, convertible or not, is selling out the brand.
n05h@reddit
Didn't their Le Mans winning car also run the V6? Probably best that didn't work out. In a way XX works for this car because it's way too busy with too much going on visually. It's more like the SF90 eXXtra.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
Yes, as does their halo (f80) and their current berlinetta (296, also in GT3). A 296LM makes more sense given the history & platform, but it's too entry-level to ever get that treatment.
I think you could argue the aero is le-mans-inspired though. First fixed-wing ferrari since the F50, and somewhat reminiscent of the F50-GT.
Either-Durian-9488@reddit
GMs attorneys probably came a knockin.
marino1310@reddit
I’m surprised it hasn’t been done before. Most race cars don’t have roofs, why can’t these lol. I can’t imagine the convertible adds too much weight, especially since it’s all carbon. Plus the monocoque tub should be plenty stiff enough
Kmaaq@reddit
It's not a carbon tub and neither are the panels, and the convertible mechanism does add around 80kg iirc
Either-Durian-9488@reddit
I would imagine that it structally doesn’t make much difference in a carbon tub like that, it’s why Mclaren can easily make a spyder out of everything they sell.
Kmaaq@reddit
Not a carbon tub
RangeRoverHSE@reddit
SF90s don't have a carbon tub
jawnlerdoe@reddit
That’s fair in terms of structural rigidity. This car just seems like a cash grab given it’s not track only like previous XX iterations.
Nero_Wolff@reddit
And the 911 GT3 doesnt compete in GT3 racing… and the Mclaren LTs are not track only cars and they arent really “long tails” like the F1 LT was
Scazitar@reddit
I mean at the end of the day you have to remember the majority of the rich people that will actually own this probably won't even give a fuck about the names legacy.
orhantemerrut@reddit
Did a teenager write this title? Why do car people love juvenile dick jokes so much?
KuzanNegsUrFav@reddit
I didn't even think of that when reading the title. I think it might just be you lol.
orhantemerrut@reddit
Sure, sure, it's just me.
KuzanNegsUrFav@reddit
Bro why are you linking this stuff about dicks to me, ewwwww.
Zeracho@reddit
Medium-wing energy. Now the ACR viper, that's big-wing. Maybe the viper is just more of a shower.
Either-Durian-9488@reddit
The borderline plywood pikes peak approach to wings that the ACR takes is the best part of the car, it’s a reminder that all these fastidious winglets and ducts can matched with 2 sheets of 3/4 inch and a small block.
marino1310@reddit
I’ve always been a fan of the fact that with all the tech today like turbos, active aero, mag suspension, hybrid powertrains, rear mid engines, etc the ACR can somehow destroy everything with an NA V10, rear wheel drive, a manual transmission, and static aero. It’s not like it’s a stripped out car like the Ariel atom, it’s a perfectly drive able street car that just outperforms nearly everything
StonePrism@reddit
Perfectly drivable street car? By all accounts it's a rough riding weapon that tries to kill you every time you graze the accelerator. It's an awesome and amazing car, but don't make it out to be something it isn't. It's a GT2RS with a front V10 instead of a rear turbo V6.
marino1310@reddit
Any sub 100k car that rip the paint off a lambo on the track and then drive 100 miles back home is proper big wing energy
TheB1ackAdderr@reddit
Up the what pass????
Lover_zone@reddit
Dream car
Terryknowsbest@reddit
Small rear tire energy
HailOfHarpoons@reddit
1/3 the price of F80 with 3x better looks.
DanielG165@reddit
Yet would still be demolished by an F80 on any given track, and doesn’t house an engine that won Le Mans twice.
FuckTheFourth@reddit
Or you can just buy a 296, save a few million, and have the same (albeit tuned down) "499P"-based V6.
RBR927@reddit
“Based on” the engine. Similar to “based on a true story” in movies.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
People seem to willfully ignore that the 499p engine is closely related to the 296GT3 (and therefore 296gtb) engines, but saying "hi our top-of-the-line halo car shares an engine with our entry level berlinetta" doesn't sound quite as good.
No shade, it's an insanely good drivetrain, but the racing heritage doesn't make it any less of a V6.
NotPumba420@reddit
I prefer the F80 design for some reason. It looks very different kinda retro.
BathingInSoup@reddit
Ferrari makes all these rare hypercars that cost so much damn money, yet require regular costly maintenance. Nobody who buys one would ever complain about the ongoing additional costs for fear of the perception that they are actually conscious of something as trivial as their spending. The net result is that there is absolutely no expectation that Ferrari would produce a reliable car.
My question is whether they even could if they wanted to? It would be really cool and very interesting to see what they’d come up with if they decided to try to produce a competitor to the Boxster/Cayman.
cybrax2@reddit
It comes with 7 years maintenance plan for free.
BathingInSoup@reddit
Also, “free”? With prices starting at $350k, I’d say you’re paying plenty for it.
cybrax2@reddit
I wish the maintenance plan is something customers can expect from a car of that tier but alas 🤷♂️
BathingInSoup@reddit
Right? For that price, it should either be bulletproof or they should stand behind it with free maintenance.
BathingInSoup@reddit
Did not know that.
Jkcanwien@reddit
great point.
ferrari is closer to a mechanism to store wealth then it is a car company
smack1700@reddit
Does anyone else just not care about super/hyper cars anymore?
They're so absurdly expensive and only an incredibly small percentage of people in earth can afford them anymore
There's no point in even day dreaming about them
Top_Repair6670@reddit
Surprised you even asked, considering we have a circlejerk thread for it every week.
yztard@reddit
Same. All the car magazines just test them a couple of times in a purely straight line as well so I couldn't care less.
The whole cult and brand loyalty to even buy some cars these days has me so turned off from these cars. Im still young enough to enjoy motorcycles, and the appeal of going in buying whatever I want whenever I want and switching it up to try different types, makes etc is so nice.
Eventually when my body can't handle the demands of riding two wheels I will switch to cars but by then I'm probably going to be more interested in something like a radical than any of these gt3's etc.
MGPS@reddit
Those slashes over the wheels look cheesy
random000009@reddit
That look nice
MrAnalogRobot@reddit
It seems so wrong, but I like it.
FckDammit@reddit
GTA looking Ferrari.
mangoagogo6@reddit
This comment is on literally every single thread about every single sports car on this sub. I think it’s time to find something else to say.
ghostfalia@reddit
Keep in mind the only real reason why this model even exists is because the SF90 sales were so poor that Ferrari attempted to elevate the model by creating the XX version, and in high production numbers compared to other XX models.
DanielG165@reddit
XX nomenclature used here is clearly nothing more than a marketing and sales ploy, and does rather dilute that side of Ferrari imo. That aside, the Spider variant is just weird to me, and I’m not referring only to the looks. This is supposed to be the hardcore track focused SF90, XX and all that, and yet you can get it in a power HTC with more weight and less rigidity. And, since it’s the convertible version of one of their speciale/exclusive cars, it’s more rare, and thus will be more expensive over time than the coupe.
The SF90 XX is just a weird car overall to me, and that really comes down to the name of it. Backseat car enthusiast and all that, but I feel like had this been called the SF90 GTO, LM, or Speciale instead, then there wouldn’t have been any controversy surrounding it. The XX name has single handily given this car A TON more attention and discussion, for better or worse. It’s brutally fast as fuck, though, that’s obvious.
welcometothewierdkid@reddit
I’m not sure what was wrong with calling it the Pista. That name is literally for a harder core street car, and has been used for a spider before too.
RBR927@reddit
At first glance I thought it was a Mansory kit.
Maximilianne@reddit
Honestly the worst modern design trend are these big wings attached to sports cars
DanielG165@reddit
It’s not really a trend when said wings and other aerodynamic bits are required for the amount of performance cars like this have nowadays.
mikolv2@reddit
It's such a modern trend, it's the first Ferrari with a fixed-wing since the F50
AdventurousDress576@reddit
Those 2 parts of your sentence clash completely.
Benjammin172@reddit
...it's a track car with over a thousand horsepower. This isn't an aesthetic choice, it's required to make the car remotely drivable.
lostboyz@reddit
I can think of a lot worse things and it's really hard to call it a modern trend.
Juicyjackson@reddit (OP)
I mean, they are kind of a functional part of a sports car...
All of the aero combined on this model with the top up generate 1168 pounds of aero stick at 155 MPH.
VEGA3519@reddit
I feel like SF90 XX should get more love, even if a street legal Ferrari XX sounds like heresy
