Do the kids still call it that?

Devil's night in Detroit. Back in the 90s half the city would be on fire. Glad things have settled down.
EdgyPlum@reddit
Minnesota it was always "Corn Night"
SonSuko@reddit (OP)
Ahh yes, the thrill of corning cars as they drove by. I remember.
Key-Performer-9364@reddit
I lived in Minnesota until I was 22, and I never heard this term.

belunos@reddit
Back in Knoxville we called it 'going out to drink some beers someone's brother bought and maybe TP the art teachers house later'
Yea, we didn't have a cute term for it
SickSticksKick@reddit
Cute story bro
purplycarrot@reddit
Mischief Night disappeared when everyone got cell phones (21st century).
surfingbiscuits@reddit
No. Everyone has cameras now.
Bean_Sprout501@reddit
It's Devil's Night in metro Detroit.
Only_Jury_8448@reddit
It's much tamer than it used to be.
zerosevennine@reddit
In Baltimore we called it "moving night".
Artistic_Alps_4794@reddit
Glad to see "moving night" represented. I think it's only heard in the Baltimore area.
I remember in school a kid who moved from Connecticut told us it was called mischief night up there and we thought that was strange.
Missluswim@reddit
From around PA/NJ perchance? Devil's Night is Michigan based. Most everywhere else call it October 30th
VeritasAgape@reddit
That's interesting. Calling it that is a PA/ NJ thing? Like in the Philly area?
Missluswim@reddit
Do you like etymology and maps? I remember a different site, but this one seems to use the same data:
https://www.businessinsider.com/american-english-dialects-maps-2018-1#americans-cant-agree-on-how-to-pronounce-crayon-16
VeritasAgape@reddit
Thanks. You'd probably like the discussion of how to say crayons (crowns, crans, crayons).
SonSuko@reddit (OP)
Yes NEPA, I learned Devils night only after seeing the Crow.
Missluswim@reddit
Who can forget it being mentioned in The Crow ? Lol have a great night- devil's, mischief, or otherwise
Tinselcat33@reddit
In CT, we said Mischief Night
Comfortable_Tale9722@reddit
Called it cabbage night. Is it even a thing anymore?
SilverIsFreedom@reddit
I’ll smoke me some devils lettuce.
TheJokersWild53@reddit
We called it that in North Jersey and no I don’t see kids out tonight
Waste-Reflection-235@reddit
Growing up some said Devil’s night and some said Mischief night.
ResultUnusual1032@reddit
We didnt do this where I grew up but I remember reading about it in a book (maybe a Babysitters Club book) and was so jealous lol. It sounds fun!
-Lt-Jim-Dangle-@reddit
Devil's Night in Canada.
Tophzilla@reddit
Gate Night in my part of Canada. Never mischief night.
Mac_A81@reddit
Devils night
pushdose@reddit
Mischief night or gate night
ImitationCheesequake@reddit
Same, didn’t hear Devil’s Night until The Crow came out in 1994
shell37628@reddit
Philly/south jersey? I feel like calling it mischief night was pretty regional, no one where I live now called it that.
SonSuko@reddit (OP)
Yessss, I grew up in NE Pennsylvania.
OutlawHemi99@reddit
It was Devil’s night when I was younger
aerodeck@reddit
Same
Imnotonthelist@reddit
I’m from NY (not NYC) and we called it Mischief Night! We mostly played Runaway, also known as Manhunt. I was too scared to do anything destructive lol
SnoopDoggyDoggsCat@reddit
Mischief night / devils night for me
whyneedaname77@reddit
Mischief night for me. You egged houses.
Which now I am older the night after Halloween makes more sense because they gave you bad candy.
Also I remember this being urban rumor of course the gang initiation night. You had to be careful because gangs were out to kill people to put in a gang.
Key-Performer-9364@reddit
I’ve never heard a kid call any night “Mischief Night.” Not even when I was a kid myself.
Sounds like fun though. I’m in.
