I should rephrase, the accusation is not “made off nothing”, rather the merit behind it is largely from precedent. But nonetheless to say anything beyond that is (currently) speculation, no? They haven’t provided evidence of kamala working at mcdonalds, but that’s not the same as saying they (either Kamala’s team or McDonald’s) can’t provide evidence, and thus far no one reputable has been able to deny the claim.

Obviously you can’t prove a negative so kamala needs to produce evidence. My hesitation lies in that I don’t know the timeline of this story. The benevolent side of me can see a reality where kamala’s campaign was flanked by this headline and maybe in some time her people dig up the evidence proving she worked there, but if these accusations have been floating around for a while then I doubt it. And considering how hard reps have pushed the story in the past week, i think if there was proof to be dug up on that story her team would’ve shown it by now.
