ULPT: If your partner votes differently from you, make an agreement with them not to vote, then vote secretly.
Posted by Lucid-Crow@reddit | UnethicalLifeProTips | View on Reddit | 321 comments
My mom always did this with her boyfriend. She would get him to agree that their votes would cancel each other out, so they shouldn't vote. Then she voted without telling him.
NameSouth9103@reddit
Little did she know he was doing the same. So they canceled each other out anyway.
coralineaw@reddit
From a game theory perspective this is absolutely what should happen lol
anonymousetache@reddit
And what about from a relationship/trust perspective?
Kindly_Match_5820@reddit
ATP I assume they're together due to some financial stressors or familial pressure and don't really like each other lol
Wide_Television747@reddit
As much as I find the entire concept of this disgusting because you're putting a political party over the person you love which is practically psychopathic, this is ULPT.
falchi103@reddit
Ah, yes, putting the future of your entire nation and millions of people in the trash because you think your loved one is more important than the entire planet and everything in it.
The_Real_Scrotus@reddit
A big part of the reason the world is in the shape it is right now is that people are more disconnected from each other than ever before.
blackbasset@reddit
No, a big part of the reason is that fascists can spout their bullshit without any opposition and people gobble that up
TypicalImpact1058@reddit
People gobble up fascist rhetoric because they feel lonely and purposeless.
blackbasset@reddit
oh come on
TypicalImpact1058@reddit
Huh? I mean obviously the fact that fascists feel more secure spouting shit is a contributing factor to fascism. But it feels like you were trying to claim that loneliness and such isn't much of a factor at all.
Impossible-Scene5084@reddit
Some people see fascism and go “ew gross”, some people see it and say “hell yeah”.
It’s ok to judge the ones that say hell yeah. It doesn’t matter what excuse you put in their mouths; they support fascism, and the excuse doesn’t make the impact of their support any less deplorable, thus, it is irrelevant.
TypicalImpact1058@reddit
I do judge them. I think they are cruel, repulsive and discompassionate. But people are not born evil, they have human reasons for taking on all these bad traits. If we know the reasons, it becomes easier to prevent it. That's the purpose of what I'm saying, not to excuse fascists.
Impossible-Scene5084@reddit
Well, frankly unless you are willing to take some kind of action against fascistic rhetoric so that it never reaches the ears of the lonely and angry, there’s not much you can do to prevent it.
Technically they are victims, since fascists know that they are ripe for manipulating. How are you going to interfere with fascists targeting their primary victims?
TypicalImpact1058@reddit
I'm not gonna respond directly because there has clearly been a miscommunication and I don't really understand your angle. It seemed like the redditor was saying that people feeling disconnected from each other is not much of a contributing factor for fascism, or that it's not really worth considering. I criticised that and I guess slightly misrepresented my position. I don't care about what happened after that.
Impossible-Scene5084@reddit
In your last comment you mentioned the utility of this information being that you could somehow use it preventatively.
Re-reading mine, I can see it seeming combative… sorry for my bluntness.
blackbasset@reddit
Of course people feeling left behind and lovely is a factor, but this is heavily excusing that sooo many people are still consciously voting for fascists... And those idiots should not have any excuse.
TypicalImpact1058@reddit
They are consciously voting for fascists because at some point they were lonely and the alt-right seemed like an appealing community (many of them). It's not an excuse, it's a reason.
blackbasset@reddit
Some may do, but a lot of people are just hateful and want to feel power over minorities. This is trivialising what is happening and we need to stop pitying those poor lonely people who actively try to destroy our free life and centuries of hard fought for democracy.
TypicalImpact1058@reddit
Huh I forgot about the power angle. When people take drastic measures to feel powerful, it probably means that something was making them feel powerless. I suspect they're fearful and bitter over the fact that the world is changing and they're powerless to stop it. I think that essentially everything that humans do has a root cause in fairly normal human emotions, and I don't think that's a trivialisation, it's just true. Hatred doesn't pop out of thin air.
And I'd like to say that I don't pity these people. Me humanising them is trying to create a strategy to defeat them, not me sympathising.
Far-Regular-2553@reddit
the irony of complaining about freedom of speech while calling people fascist lol

Romantic love is not the only love. I have many people I love and would do a great many things for, but logically, there is a scenario where they must be sacrificed, which just happens to be saving the planet for me.
BoreholeDiver@reddit
You and your vote are not that important. None of this garbage matters.
acdrewz555555@reddit
Lol firm downvote. Votes don’t matter esp in firm red states like yours. Besides, electoral college rules vary by state and don’t follow popular vote 100% of the time.
NewKerbalEmpire@reddit
From a relationship/trust perspective the deal shouldn't happen in the first place
Ambitious-Isopod8115@reddit
Why not?
Mr_Juice_Himself@reddit
Clearly these two people shouldn't be together. If her mom is attempting to manipulate his vote how else does she manipulate him. Mom is toxic, boyfriend should leave and find someone that truly values him.
Compliant_Automaton@reddit
Actually, the most successful strategies are the trust and repricocity strategies. From a game theory perspective, the most successful will be one where both comply with the agreement.
Big_Opinion_2235@reddit
Only if the "game" is played many times and both parties know what the other did in the previous round at all times
B1SQ1T@reddit
Prisoners dilemma?
turtle_explosion247@reddit
Kinda but the outcome is the same if they cooperate or both cheat. The only way it changes anything is if only one of them votes.
Aypleck@reddit
If they both cooperate the reward is slightly higher since they didn't have to go voting
Current-Roll6332@reddit
Only if you're cletus the fetus.
anto2554@reddit
But then they cancel each other out so there's no reason to do it in the first place

Skuzbagg@reddit
But you can't take their word they won't do exactly what you would do. So you do what must be done. And they will, too.
coralineaw@reddit
Exactly
Argovan@reddit
Only in individual games. If we assume mutual non-voting gives both parties value (in the form of not straining the relationship) it may make sense to cooperate. Similar to repeat prisoners dilemmas.

Or just break up with your weird ass Trump supporting partner?
NothingMovesTheBlob@reddit
Why would you want to build a life with someone who doesn't share your values on a basic level in the first place?
Abrasive-Coyote2524@reddit
Because your relationship shouldn't be built off politics. That just seems stupid
Eastern-Astronomer-6@reddit
Values aren’t aligned by political party.
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
If you lived in Germany during the 1930’s would you have dated a Nazi?
scolbert08@reddit
If you lived in 1930s Germany, you would've been a Nazi.
Spectromancer@reddit
I have to agree with the astronomer, in any relationship, both partners remain unique individuals, and it’s perfectly natural to have differing opinions—even on major issues like politics—as long as there’s mutual respect for each other’s perspectives.
roganwriter@reddit
Yes but they always rear they had the deeper into the relationship you get, don’t they? Will the children go to church? What shows will we let the kids watch? What websites will we let the kids browse on? What are we reading to the kids at night? What are we complaining to the teacher about them learning? What kind of investments do we make? What causes do we donate to? What things to be advocate against? What happens if our teenage daughter has an unwanted pregnancy? What happens if our child is gay?
How can you disagree on any of these questions and still have a healthy relationship? Not everything can be a compromise.
Fun_Quantity_7941@reddit
You can have an extremely healthy relationship without kids.
kiwipoo2@reddit
Pretty sure there are republicans who disagree on those questions as well as democrats, and there are republicans and democrats who would agree with each other's answers. Assuming this is about the US, the political system doesn't have enough granularity to represent people's views.
Now, if they were German and one voted AfD and the other die Grüne... That'd be a different story.
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
So would you date a rank and file nazi? Like if you lived in Germany in the 30’s and were say idk Jewish, would you just brush aside their political opinions?
Ser_falafel@reddit
Ever heard of this little thing called nuance?
afflehouse_@reddit
“Having different opinions is ok” “SO YOU WOULD DATE A NAZI??”
Politically charged Reddit is hilarious
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
Why don’t you just stay on the Rogan sub defending Trump? “Politically charged Reddit” lmao
AreYouDepressed@reddit
Furiously going through someone's comment history is not the W you think it is
afflehouse_@reddit
Anyone deserves to be defended when people just blatantly spread false info about them. I’d do it for Kamala, Trump, Walz, Vance and Biden idc. Lying about someone is wrong.
HillarysBloodBoy@reddit
One time I was standing at a urinal and Kamala walked in, stood next to me at the neighboring urinal, and whipped out an absolute python of a dick. I only know this because she stood a little bit back and made a show of it. She peaked over at mine and said, “Nice cock citizen”.
Afterwards she walked out without washing her hands.
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
I’m asking where the line is.
afflehouse_@reddit
Jumping to the furthest extreme is not asking where the line is lmao
GlGsGd@reddit
This is beautiful
NothingMovesTheBlob@reddit
Of course they are, what a stupid thing to say.
Kally269@reddit
I know several conservatives that are genuinely good people, with strong moral values that far surpass my own. Dont get all wrapped up in one side or the other being the devil. THAT ideology is what is pitting people against each other
Prime624@reddit
If they're voting for Trump, they are in fact not good people.
keepingitrealgowrong@reddit
I feel with certainty that there is not a single conservative nominee you would accept as worthy to vote for.
Prime624@reddit
There's a huge difference between Bush, McCain, etc. and Trump. I think a bush voter is probably either a shitty person or not very bright, but here are exceptions and it's not on the same level as Trump.
keepingitrealgowrong@reddit
So conservatives are either stupid or evil, but to vote for Trump even the stupid people are evil... the good stupid people vote for who?
OodalollyOodalolly@reddit
Good people are against mass internment on American soil.
keepingitrealgowrong@reddit
So the good stupid ones will only vote for those against mass internment.
hwf0712@reddit
Yes. Because I believe the values of conservatism (mandating the traditional family structure, helping the wealthy hoard more health, stripping back the regulatory state) are inherently bad, and if you vote for those, you are bad for endorsing those values.
keepingitrealgowrong@reddit
Then don't make it about Trump. Just say if you're a conservative you're a bad person and hash it out with the person who says they know conservatives that are good people.
Good-Opening-2577@reddit
Republicans today are either stupid (cult phenomenon) or evil. I charitably believe most are just stupid, hiding their ignorance by doubling down (emperor has no robes)
TheGreyFencer@reddit
I don't even think they have to be stupid, just ignorant
Good-Opening-2577@reddit
That’s a fair distinction.
SuperCharlesXYZ@reddit
They’re not voting for mitt Romney lol, they’re voting for trump. And if your values include caring about the poor, Palestine or that people deserve access to healthcare, that’s some major incompatibilities
friblehurn@reddit
And that's fine, but voting for a government that wants to remove women's rights is hurting them.
Even if they don't agree with that part, by voting for that party, you're making it a reality.
forgothatdamnpasswrd@reddit
I’m not taking a side, but you have to understand that a portion of people see it as murder. They don’t see it as “a woman’s choice” any more than Casey Anthony had a right to kill her child. I’m not saying they’re right, but that is how they see it.
HowTheyGetcha@reddit
How much shit do you have to ignore to sleep soundly at night as a good.koral conservative voter? Honestly. Headline after headline of women suffering and dying preventable deaths? The thousands of children stolen from their parents... who remembers that American tragedy? Trump is promising to turn the military into domestic law enforcement and has called liberals enemies of America. Good moral people support that do they? Good moral people hear Trump say immigrants are soiling the blood of Americans and they're like yes, please... I'm a good person!
No, I can buy they were good people the firrt time around. If you still support Trump, at this point, the ignorance is willful.
HussarOfHummus@reddit
"Both sides are the same" nonsense.
nabiku@reddit
This was correct until around 2015.
thatAnthrax@reddit
basic level? Mf is basing their entire life on a political party lmao
BeneficialName9863@reddit
Also I don't think I could fancy someone I could trick that easily even if I could look past her having an incompatible morality.
HillarysBloodBoy@reddit
I trick my children all the time and I love them but they can’t vote yet so I guess it isn’t apples to apples
Dreamsnaps19@reddit
Yeah. But you don’t fancy your children… Fancy is has a connotation of attraction, it’s not just love
BeneficialName9863@reddit
Same with my dog, I love her, I think she's beautiful, we often disagree on things (like whether a run timber badger smells good) I trick her all the time but don't fancy her
Fattybitchtits@reddit
People’s actual values generally go well beyond what their corrupt political party of choice pretends to stand for.
AltruisticSize420@reddit
I do. Confirmation bias is what is killing the United States of America.
Let’s disagree and learn from each other. You should know when to turn your mouth off and just let the other person be right.
Anyone who can’t do that is going to have a hard time finding happiness in romance.
ElizabethTheFourth@reddit
So, "confirmation bias" refers our underlying tendency to only notice evidence that fits with our existing beliefs. Not sure how you think marrying someone with the opposite viewpoint helps with a cognitive fallacy where you cherry-pick information. You'd still only focus on the information that fits your viewpoint -- that's what that term means.
And secondly, not sure what your gender is, but I'm a woman, and dating/marrying a person who doesn't think I should have bodily autonomy is... kind of a deal-breaker.
AltruisticSize420@reddit
Obv I don’t think a feminist and a trumper can happily marry. I’m talking about more moderate disagreements here. And in general, I think we focus too much on the extremes of the political scale on all these kinds of discussions.
I’m saying I don’t think two conservatives are doing much to expand their own viewpoint to respect women’s rights, and I do t think two liberals are doing much to expand their own viewpoints on utilizing natural resources in a way that stimulates an economy.
“If we both agree, we must be correct and everyone who disagrees is either stupid or wrong, let’s change their minds” - less of that please. I’d like to see more “I see what you mean, but it’s not going to change the way I vote this November”
-also regardless of my own gender I’m a huge fan of women’s bodily autonomy and will be voting accordingly.
Tannissar@reddit
Your assuming much. My neighbors have been married 40 something years. One a literally burn the bra, multiple arrests, feminist. The other a "trumper" as you put it.
You need to realize the vast majority of the US population does not have extreme political views regardless who they lean towards. The media/politicians want you to think they do. And you have fallen down that rabbit hole....
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
Voting for trump is an extreme political view.
Tannissar@reddit
Many can say the same of Biden. Doesn't make either true
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
Biden is basically a Reagan era republican, he’s the most milquetoast president we’ve had in years. He’s not an extremist. (I also didn’t vote for him so 🤷🏻♀️)
Tannissar@reddit
Good for you? Want a fucking cookie? 🤣
The fact you think there's this massive difference between people just shows you've drank the coolaid. Not a flex to 80% of the US population lol
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
I’d love a cookie thanks for asking.
I’m not sure what the fuck you’re trying to say here, there are fairly large differences between people, in many different contexts.
Tannissar@reddit
No, politically, there aren't. They want low taxes, safety, and security. Literally everything else has been introduced to polarize you. And it has worked... your the perfect example lol.
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
Not everyone wants lower taxes, I’m happy to pay my share and consistently vote for local measures that raise my personal taxes (as long as it’s for things I feel we need to improve like education and infrastructure) and most everyone that I know that is anywhere left of center is also like that.
I don’t disagree that before Trump there was fewer differences between the two parties but you can’t say that now. I’m also not part of the two parties and haven’t been since I’ve been old enough to vote (over 25 years).
AltruisticSize420@reddit
There are always edge cases. And I’m happy for them, glad to see someone has the patience for political disagreements.
You need to realize I’m not trying to say that most people are radical. I’m actually arguing the opposite. Apparently not doing a great job, or you are illustrating my point? Honestly not sure at this point
Tannissar@reddit
Your doing a horrible job 🤣
Ok-Conference-9428@reddit
Always a delight reading yanks bark about politics, we always compare it to a reality tv show in my country
Tannissar@reddit
Apt comparison tbh
MunkyMastr@reddit
Or, and I know this sounds crazy, but you could maybe find someone who isn’t diametrically opposed to your world view.
Pure_Bus1948@reddit
The world isnt black and white
MunkyMastr@reddit
That is true, and a deflection from what I said.
NothingMovesTheBlob@reddit
I'm happy to disagree on stuff like whether or not pineapple belongs on pizza or which way the dishwasher should be loaded, or what colour to decorate the bathroom.
When it comes to things like what rights people should have or general morals? Absolutely not. Those things say a lot about your character, whether you like it or not.
Jeagsy@reddit
You’re assuming politics are a high priority for everyone, which is not true.
Two people can vote differently but still maintain politically moderate beliefs and not be that different from each other. The idea that everyone is an extremist for voting a certain way is damaging.
LionInAComaOnDelay@reddit
They're not a high priority until they are. I doubt you'd say this when you are given a disease and wish for better healthcare. None of these things "matter" until they affect us directly.
Jeagsy@reddit
I would still say politics aren’t a high priority for most people lol, even if they are for me.
wheres_the_revolt@reddit
Are you white, straight, and male?
qpwoeiruty00@reddit
Which side wins is life or death for some people; especially in the USA right now.
It's a very high priority thing and everyone it affects has the right to be mad at everyone who contributed voting to the side that could get them killed
NothingMovesTheBlob@reddit
I'm glad that you're in a position where politics don't have to be a high priority for you.
Many people aren't so lucky.
Jeagsy@reddit
I didn’t say they weren’t for me, but understanding that they aren’t important to everyone explains why people who vote differently end up together.
Yeah_I_am_a_Jew@reddit
I agree. That’s why I married a skinhead neo nazi, and we couldn’t be happier. Sure, we argue, she might want to kill me. But when I shut the fuck up and just agree with her we both grow as people.
GlGsGd@reddit
I don't think conformation bias is the right term here. But yes, this.
RageTheFlowerThrower@reddit
Oh you sweet summer child
AreYouDepressed@reddit
Exactly! This is why I would never date liberal men lol
doterobcn@reddit
Exactly, especially in the US were it is Red vs Blue. In other countries there's shades so even if you don't vote the exact same party you could be on the same side of the left/right scale
kakemot@reddit
It’s a very minor detail, and the best relationships don’t discuss politics
Content_Averse@reddit
More importantly, why would you want to build a life with someone who is enough a rube to fall for a trick like this? I want someone who can help my scams, not fall for them
timebomb011@reddit
Many people don’t live in America and actually have many options voting. In Canada we have 5 parties - liberal, conservative, ndp, parti québécois and green. Having a different vote than another person isn’t as devicive
NothingMovesTheBlob@reddit
I know. In fact, it may shock you to learn that I myself am not from the US.
timebomb011@reddit
It does! I’m baffled why you think people voting differently means they don’t share life values if you are familiar with having voting options.
ManlyCowboyMouse@reddit
I wouldn’t expect people that have healthy relationships to be posting on this sub.
AbruptMango@reddit
Long game. I'm going to teach her kids to think my values are cooler.
Dashieswag92@reddit
Except that whether you voted or not is publicly available, so your partner could see that you lied to them.
Warnackle@reddit
Or just find a partner with similar political values, as those tend to underlie personal beliefs and incompatibility in that regard tends to indicate overall incompatibility at this point in time

passwordmaster89@reddit
If your partner is voting differently than you THIS election, you and your partner should not be together.

Just an FYI, in most (if not all) states, who you voted for or private but the fact that you voted in public.
Nick882ID@reddit
How would one go about finding if (random person) voted?
kcGOH@reddit
Obviously because you’re legally required to post a selfie with the “I Voted” sticker.
Xelikai_Gloom@reddit
Ooh, don’t get me started on “I Voted” stickers. I want one so bad, but I always vote via mail in ballot (woot PA). I’ve never gotten one.
cleavergrill@reddit
Not to rub it in but some states include the sticker with your mail-in ballot
leblady@reddit
Did Your Friends Vote?
https://app.impactive.io/did_my_friend_vote
strabbit@reddit
That would depend on your state. Try Googling "voter record [state name]".
In Wisconsin, for example, there's a website called "My Vote Wisconsin", where you can look up the voter record of anyone using a first name, last name, and birth date. In other states, it might not be possible to search voting history that easily, but you can usually obtain the info with a public records request.
Cursed_Sun_Stardust@reddit
It’s public record. I periodically check if my friends voted

what’s the point of saying this
namerankserial@reddit
Yeah but human nature is your friend, no person that agrees to not bother to vote is going to bother to check that.

And the piss disc originally was for sliding under a door not throwing.

Or just agree not to discuss who you're voting for?
Material-Reveal3501@reddit
Gota be some toxic crazy liberal shit. Always see them advising shit like this. Only way they will win is through lies deceit and trickery 🤣
Ok-Class-1451@reddit
Your Mom sounds really immature. If you can’t have a mature disagreement about who you’re choosing to vote for, you’re basically a child. This is terrible advice.
OrdinarySecret1@reddit
So basically break your partners trust? That’s great advice!
Brilliant-Way-9133@reddit
That's no pro tip. It's high risk low reward. It's idiotic.
Ki11abee-@reddit
My wife is a Trump supporter and me being an educated man who reads and likes history I’m obviously voting for Kamala. I’ve been wanting a PC since 2020 and she said she would buy me one if I voted for Trump. I agreed bc having a PC is better to me than voting for principle. I fully think Trump will win FL where I live but I also believe Kamala will win the election no matter who I vote for. Anyways a couple days after I agreed I was looking up PCs and I showed her one and she got really mad and said she wasn’t going to buy me a PC. The next morning I voted for Kamala and all dems across the board. It was a nice feeling of relief. And now she says she feels bad about getting mad and she’s gonna get me the PC anyways. I don’t think I’m gonna tell her I voted.
JonathanTheZero@reddit
I've read better
Ki11abee-@reddit
Good for you
hadyn98@reddit
Assuming a two horse race only.. If there are more than two parties, both voting for different parties is necessary to keep the third and other parties from winning. (I understand this is not relevant in the majority of USA right now.)
cheesenuggets2003@reddit
Most honest person on the other side.
JonathanTheZero@reddit
Holy shit, why is politics so treated asa personality trait in the US? Why is it more important than being honest with your partner?? Y'all are insane
idaelikus@reddit
Politics arent your personality but should be a reflection of your values. So it is all the more confusing to me when two partners cannot agree on anything, politically.
toonwa@reddit
Sounds like a two-party system problem
idaelikus@reddit
Not entirely. If you consider any specific motion to be vote on, you can either be for it or against.
Artfuldodger96@reddit
I mean anyone can just google your name and see if your an active voter so…
Evil-Santa@reddit
Why would you try and cancel someone else's vote?
Voting is a privilege created by a democratic society and you want to silence the person because they have a different opinion that you?
PWNCAKESanROFLZ@reddit
You must be a Democrat
WartOnTrevor@reddit
They always are.
thisaccountiz@reddit
Exxxcepppt votes don’t matter at all because the electoral college will ultimately decide. But sure if this helps you think you make a difference.
maybejustadragon@reddit
If you murder them then they’ll never vote against you again.
Also this tip is stupid.
Good-Opening-2577@reddit

Well you got the unethical part right but this is a terrible tip and wouldn't even work because voting is a public record they can look up if you voted. Not who you voted for but if you voted
devro1040@reddit
I have never once looked up if a friend or family member has voted.

I had a partner who voted differently than me. We would vote together and cancel each other out. It was nice walking together and standing in line.
we could still be together because neither of us were in a cult
lord_flamebottom@reddit
If your partner votes differently from you in modern politics, maybe think about who your partner is.

JupiterSkyFalls@reddit
If my partner was voting for Mango Mussolini this year, I'd be filing for divorce. It's not a left side/right side debate any longer. It's a sanity, morals and inclusion vs power, greed and racism/xenophobia.
TheWildBunch1313@reddit
Since whether or not you voted is public information this isn't a good ULPT for a real relationship, so can we level it up and mobilize folks to date a ton of MAGA ppl at the same time and get them all to agree to this?
datbackup@reddit
LPT: don’t get your advice on Reddit
porridgeGuzzler@reddit
I set up a fake polling station and staffed it with raccoons and booby trapped it. My wives face is going to be so red when she finds out she voted for a raccoon and then gets caught in a net trap.
MHulk@reddit
If your partner votes differently than you, prove them right that you're unethical and lie to them directly for a vote that doesn't even matter anyway and risk your marriage/relationship for nothing!
This isn't unethical, it's idiotic.
lawlianne@reddit
Lmao prisoner dilemma.
Degen_Boy@reddit
Luckily my partner and I both agree that both candidates are shit.
Pleasant_Carpenter55@reddit
You got downvoted, but you’re not wrong. People are definitely willing to overlook Kamala’s shittiness just because Trump is pretty evil. Kamala may be the safer bet, but both of these candidates absolutely suck donkey dick and will absolutely fuck something up for everyone.
Degen_Boy@reddit
Yeah I don’t really get why I’m being downvoted tbh. Objectively both sides are bad. Unfortunately some people here are either on the war path against anyone not far left, or are just stupid. Glad at least one person agrees.
TheGIGAcapitalist@reddit
>Objectively both sides are bad
Political opinions are not fact. They are a good example of subjectivity- "based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions"
Degen_Boy@reddit
Yes and both sides are influenced by their personal feelings, tastes, and opinions. But mainly what will further their political careers, at the expense of the public if necessary. I appreciate the lesson in semantics though.
AltruisticSize420@reddit
Replying to CookieWifeCookieKids...that’s not luck, that’s the status quo.

Voting records are public information. Just vote and lie about it.
Or leave them if they can’t act like a fucking grown up.

Peastoredintheballs@reddit
Or just do what that other guy did on that post the other day. Steal your partners (it was the dad stealing sons vote in the OOP) mail in ballot and vote for them and send it off. 2 votes for your candidate and 0 for the opposition is better then 1 for your candidate and 0 for the opposition
AbsoluteZeroQ@reddit
Sounds like a relationship with a solid foundation.
Braided_Marxist@reddit
If you’re married to someone you have to do this with, I don’t expect you.

Why do that. Break up or divorce them
XPurpPupil@reddit
What the actual fuck is wrong with people man how did politics become this omnipotent presence in people's lives.
"Erm actually.. 🤓☝️" blow it out your ass man. If you feel the need to do sneaky dumb shit like this to your partner just stick to yourself. Pathetic. What you think your partner is gonna be this perfect soulmate machine that agrees with EVERY single take you have ever had? People disagree its not the end of the world. Im so over this
Always_B_Batman@reddit

naked_nomad@reddit
My grandparents did that. They decided since they were going to cancel each others vote they would just not vote. Grandmother (Episcopal) for Kennedy and my Grandfather (Baptist & Mason) for Nixon as how dare the Masons endorse a Catholic.
After the election they both confessed to voting on the sly.
While he paid his dues for the rest of his life; my grandfather never stepped foot in a Masonic Hall the rest of his life.
He had a pre-paid burial plan and my uncle Uncle and I were both surprised when they performed their graveside ceremony.
EdwardTeach84@reddit
I vote differently from my partner and it's not an issue.

do we really need any parties? I’m asking, l really dont know enough about party numbers to say. anyone?
WhackyWeekly@reddit
Or, you could grow up and accept that people have different views and move on with your life. I have friends who are very different politically than me, I respect their choice and they respect mine.
No_Accident2331@reddit
Just because you don’t like one candidate doesn’t mean you automatically have to vote for the other.

r/ULPT members when the tip is unethical: 🤔😢😥😓☹️
NeckbeardTranscriber@reddit
I wonder who your mom voted for
iurope@reddit
Yeah this is one of the tips for these pseudo-democratic two party systems in which people are being tricked to believe they actually have representation and democracy.
For any actual democracy that has more than two parties the whole argument of two votes cancelling each other out is just moot.
FlittyO@reddit
If you feel you need to disenfranchise your partner from voting, your relationship is already over.
Mr-Jimmies@reddit
Arn’t voter records public? As in I could look up my wife after the election and see that she lied to me?
JumpTheCreek@reddit
Or like, respect the difference of opinion? Both of the usual choices are usually shit anyway, it’s just how it’s served.
Hulio23@reddit
If you are in a relationship where you can't have different political opinions, you need a new relationship.
anto2554@reddit
Or a new partner
opecanada@reddit
Yeah, don’t do this. IF you voted is public record, and I would venture to guess that being in a relationship with someone who cares so deeply about how you vote also means there is a non-zero chance of that person checking after the fact. Love, not lies. Find someone else.
Apart_Zebra_655@reddit
Or, maybe you vote the way you want to and out of respect of your partner, let them do the same. If you really have to resort to this bahvior, perhaps you're not mature enough to be in the relationship to begin with. Your partner needs a better partner.
Fra06@reddit
This might be an ethical life pro tip but you should let people vote and support what they believe in
Deadmodemanmode@reddit
That's disgusting
CertainMotor6154@reddit
Any POS who does that deserves a partner that they have
FrosttheVII@reddit
This isn't even unethical. It's just idiotic and short-sighted.
coralineaw@reddit

Kittymeow123@reddit

Great_Hamster@reddit
Risky. In the US whether or not you voted is public record and anyone can look it up. They can't see your vote, but they can see if you voted.
wholebodydeodorant@reddit
