Company is putting in driver facing cameras..

They are giving us all a $5.50 per hour raise to compensate. Pretty happy with their decision.
Ok_Bug_6470@reddit
It’s not for safety it’s for building databases. They’re getting paid to use them and it’s literally your intellectual property they’re selling and you’re getting nothing for it.
azwildcat74@reddit
Does your head sweat with all of the tin foil you wear on it?
Ok_Bug_6470@reddit
Actually I studied databases in college as well as programming logic with a professor that was a software engineer and we actually learned about this. It’s simple. Basically if you know how an autonomous vehicle works then you know everything comes down to a series of decisions based on different scenarios. All of those scenarios are recorded and matched with the drivers reaction (from the inward canera)to every situation. All of this is logged in to populate the databases that are referenced by the computers on the autonomous vehicles. I’m not an expert but maybe someone smarter than me can explain it to you, but the drivers individual reactions and how they respond are unique to them and are recorded and used. It’s the drivers property. That’s like saying only the recording engineer deserves 100%credit for a song and not the people playing or writing the music. Or maybe I’m full of shit.
azwildcat74@reddit
This is 100% nonsense

Fokazz@reddit
$11,000/year isn't nothing...
xDoomKitty@reddit
You didn't read the post, did you? They are getting a $5.50/hr raise with it. If that's nothing to you, then idk what would make you happy.
Ok_Bug_6470@reddit
And there are a lot of creepers that do watch AND listen to driver cams all day. I left a company bc of it. Dude followed me forty miles when i turned I the truck.
Illustrious-Elk7379@reddit
Here’s my 2 week notice. Btw, I’m taking my holidays for the next 2 weeks.
Born-Doctor974@reddit
Let me guess: Prime inc? I heard everyone is wanting to quit because of that?
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
Not a chance. Does Prime Inc. pay hourly?
Born-Doctor974@reddit
No. They pay by the load percentage or per miles
1morepl8@reddit
It's funny how much that would change my opinion too lol. If they're passing on the insurance break.
Ghosto8o@reddit
And here's my 2 week notice
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
Never give someone 2 weeks' notice that wouldn't do the same for you. Inusually work somewhere until im tierd of it then just go give em my keys one day and tell em I'm moving on. Never been any hard feelings so far. (Except rick, you still owe me $180, ya dick)
stan-dupp@reddit
They do that in my rig they will see some sick shit with them hookers, Mercedes from the loves in cinci oh my
freightliner_fever_@reddit
i honestly don’t mind the camera, but i only drive 100 miles with 5-10 stops a day.
Snookfilet@reddit
I used to drive local and had a camera. It was annoying just because it chirped at you all the time for doing normal things like checking blind spots but I didn’t mind it all that much since I went home every night. It’s a no go in the sleeper though.
joeyggg@reddit
Even if you’re jerking off to pornhub and slam a fully loaded fuel tanker into stopped traffic… how does the video of you jerking off help the company? If anything it makes the company even more liable.
jmzstl@reddit
It would prove that you were violating company policy and they will use that to argue the liability should fall on you.
joeyggg@reddit
The. Why would any driver agree to have this in his truck?
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
32/ hr ot after 40 is good enough for me.
joeyggg@reddit
In every 10 years of trucking you’re likely to have a serious collision. Now the insurance company is going to scrutinize your every move and your families house, and all assets are on the line. Good luck.
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
You too! Care to cite that statistic? I dont drive for myself, and if i did, i would at least have an LLC to protect my private assets. My home is safe. Learn how it works instead of fear mongering.
joeyggg@reddit
I’m responding to the comment that says insurance companies want driver cams to pass liability on to the driver in cases of negligence.
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
Ah, well, they can't. Not in the US anyway. Maybe elsewhere, though.
StalinPaidtheClouds@reddit
Stupid and desperate.
majinspy@reddit
I'm in dispatch. We'd like to find the driver-jerkers before they slam into traffic or discourage them jerkring it in our rig in the first place.
People do all kinds of unsafe things. Some do so without realizing they participate in unsafe habits and others don't care. Either way, the vast majority of the time, nothing happens. No wreck, no hard stop, nada. They get away with - until they don't. There's nothing to be done when it's time for ambulances, cops, and lawyers.
"I know what I'm doing! I've never had a wreck! That means I can use that to justify any driving practice I want! I'm special!" Famous last words of bikers who split lanes, pilots who get cute on pushing beyond their limits, and big rig drivers who "glance" at their phones.
Whether this much surveillance is worth the safety it provides vs the privacy it erodes is a subjective argument. Whether the safety is or isn't being provided, however, is not open for debate.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
That's the thing. It's the insurance companies way of getting out of paying for something. Sure, that car ran a red light doing 170mph when they hit you but you were digging for gold in your nose. Had you not been doing that you'd have sent that car coming in plenty of time and stopped for it.
azwildcat74@reddit
It's not for the company, other than the break they get on insurance premiums. It's for the insurance companies, they don't have to cover you in instances of negligence.
Practical-Wave-6988@reddit
That's not accurate.
Insurance absolutely covers fuck up.
The insurance company does have to pay for negligence, they do not have to pay if it's intentional.
But the company will have to pay either way since they put your behind the wheel, it just may open you up to personal liability that the companies insurance may not cover.
joeyggg@reddit
If you’re hit by a negligent driver, the insurance still has to pay you, the more negligent the driver is, the more you can receive in some cases.
Itchy_Psychology6678@reddit
ive had some pervert safety managers that I’m sure had their dick in their hand while watching me. Nice raise tho…..
TRexDriver@reddit
I'm a girl driver who works for Prime. This is what i keep complaining about.... how do I know that there is not someone watching me as I sleep ? So far, I haven't gotten the camera, but I will in the next couple of months
Itchy_Psychology6678@reddit
just put tape over it when your off duty.
Prime is going to clean house w these cameras. They will fire the ones they want out. If you’re a good driver….no worries.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
If it has electricity going to it it is on. They cans at it's not, they can even believe it's not because whoever they bought them from said they're not, but they are. And if it has an internet connection going to it anyone who knows how to use a computer can look at it. But they likely already know that and are just lying like every other company that lies and says they're not always on.
heavyramp@reddit
When the ELD shows "stopped", whether it be an off ramp or stoplight, is the driver allowed to switch the station on the smartphone or radio? The smartphone attached adjacent to the ELD for example.
Legally, drinking, smoking, eating is allowed while the truck is moving, but can the company/insurance legally have the cameras punish the driver, creating rules that go above and beyond the rules of the cmv?
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
If they're like that, I'll just go somewhere else. Its the whole reason i came to this industry. You only have to put up with what you are willing to.
moldschlager@reddit
In some cases you cant even touch your face
AndromedanPrince@reddit
guess ill just blow snot and spit on the steering wheel then.
pstbltit85@reddit
I'll bet the decimal point is in the wrong place.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
You know it is. Ain't no way they got more than 3 drivers and are gonna give them all a $5.50/hr raise lol. That looks dumb even on reddit.
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
22 drivers hun, new rate is a touch over 30 with OT after 40. Dont be silly because you do .CPM like a tool
Dual-use@reddit
$5.50 is better than most companies but not worth it. If they insist on installing a camera they can find a flipflop driver to take over cause I'm not driving that truck
Jay_Diamond_WWE@reddit
You're gonna be out the industry entirely soon. They're gonna be mandated in a couple years. Seems to be the new thing that the fmcsa has a hardon for.
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
We all will be in a decade bub. I hardly have to touch the accelerator anymore it seems I just click the buttons and hold the wheel. Recievers will have employees that go pick up the truck on the outskirts of cities and then unload them and take them back to charging stations just outside the cities. At that point, they'll be a dozen megas left servicing 90% of america. Anyone who can drive a truck will be a glorified lumper at that point. Technology is advancing at a truly unprecedented rate.
Dual-use@reddit
So be it then
KeepnItLow@reddit
So what’s your pay now?
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
30.52
duhrun@reddit
Put on a concert everyday while driving, they got rid of mine after a few weeks of that.
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
Bro, do they expect me not to belt it out? That's 90% of how i keep my awake. I talk to myself constantly, too.
using-the-force@reddit
So you can't watch TV while you drive anymore! Bo-ring!
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
I wonder how well the camera can see behind my aviators. They're dark as hell
Forsaken-Review727@reddit
It will detect every single time your eyes are not on the road uses both eye and head positioning.
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
Good thing the phone fits in the display cluster 🫡
Forsaken-Review727@reddit
Your repeated eye drops are an easy tell tale sign
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
Lol, it's a joke, saftey can suck my cock for compulsively checking my gauges, tho. The best thing about this industry is that you can fire me today, and I'll be in another truck tomorrow.
Forsaken-Review727@reddit
Yep OR you can be serving 20 years for vehicular homicide bc you wanted to watch Netflix. All the best to you!

Jay_Diamond_WWE@reddit
Flip the sun visor down over it. Not your fault it's sunny every day.
Wide-Engineering-396@reddit
Put sun visors down tada it's blocked, rub vasoline on it tada it gets blurry images, put a rag over it,
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
Except some think ahead and mount them below the level of the sun visors
Wide-Engineering-396@reddit
Thats when you put a outlaw visor on
Smart_Chocolate_8996@reddit
They will go off if the view is obstructed. I was asked why there was no view in the cab. I said I wasn't sure what the issue was. I had placed a sticker over the lens while at a stop and forgot to take it down when I got moving again. So yeah don't obstruct the view or they'll ding ya for that. At least my company does.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
I got away with it long enough to find another job. Supposedly the ones they had shut off after 5 minutes of the key being turned completely off. So after getting fuel I wrapped a grocery bag around it. 2 months or so later we had a safety meeting and they referenced my exact grocery bag and said anyone caught doing that would be fired immediately. I laughed and started my new job the next morning.
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
I almost always have a visor down. They did look like they were installing them damn near at the top of the windshields
pm_me_ur_demotape@reddit
Everyone gets mad about it, but they might as well get out of trucking because eventually that's going to be everywhere.
I don't love it, but I figure it's a new part of being a trucker. Take it or leave it.
PrivatePilot9@reddit
Unless you're union and you have it in your contract that they can't be installed. We have dashcams that record outside video and inside audio, that's fine, but screw inside facing cameras.
pm_me_ur_demotape@reddit
If it becomes gov mandated, a union isn't going to be able to negotiate it
PrivatePilot9@reddit
Which it won’t because the government knows they’re unpopular and would cause further problems with the industry.
Jay_Diamond_WWE@reddit
When I was a teamster, the union backed them wholeheartedly.
Healthy_Actuator_971@reddit
Even the unions aren’t immune. Plenty of teamsters jobs have driver facing cameras.
Chilliebro@reddit
Wierd that we dont have this shit anywhere in Europe
Forsaken-Review727@reddit
Do you have lawsuits in Europe with $10million to $400million awards? Genuine question as I don’t know, but here in the US that’s what companies are afraid of, hence inward and outward cameras.
StonedTrucker@reddit
Europe cares more about people. America cares more about money. Enough that we routinely enslave people in our prison system to make money
Virel_360@reddit
I myself and many of us aren’t happy about it, but this will become the industry norm or worst case it will be mandated by the government eventually.
Rasty1973@reddit
Look at the camera directly while jerking off and driving. Guarantee that they won't call.
Jay_Diamond_WWE@reddit
Gotta assert dominance.
Jay_Diamond_WWE@reddit
Mine is getting all new trucks next week with cameras facing us. We were told they don't give a shit what we do. Just try not to be looking at the phone when some idiot runs into us. Lol
GED_certified-frog@reddit
So apparently swift had inside facing cameras for a short period of time but the employees pretty much forced their hands to take them out.
moldschlager@reddit
I'd be interested in knowing how they accomplished that
Naruhodonno@reddit
looking forward to the statistics on nose-picking
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
Nose picking is the least of their worries. If I had no other option and had to accept a camera my goal would be to make whoever is watching, and someone is watching, sick at their stomach at least once a day.
AustinLostIn@reddit
Hey if you don't do anything wrong, the camera is only there for your benefit and prove you did nothing wrong. And you get a $5.50 raise for it!
Motor-Maximum-8185@reddit
I don't buy into this theory. The same thing could be achieved by not having the camera. Let them prove you did something wrong
AustinLostIn@reddit
Unfortunately truckers are guilty until proven innocent.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
That still doesn't justify a baby sitter
Motor-Maximum-8185@reddit
But if there's no evidence it's way harder to prove guilt
StonedTrucker@reddit
Lucky you! We got a pay cut and cameras
PrivatePilot9@reddit
Any pay cut should cause an exodus of employees and screw the company as they can't move their customers freight anymore, but it seems half of the people working in this industry anymore are happy to step on their own dicks if it means they can still get behind the wheel.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
It's really sad too.
StonedTrucker@reddit
What do you expect us to do? I can accept the pay cut or take another job that pays even less. If you have a solution I'd be happy to try it
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
Where do you live that you have so few options that you have to live with such utter disrespect?
No_End_3206@reddit
If this is prime Inc you’re driving with, they’re saying the camera is only on when the truck is on, that’s a blantent lie. My uncle had his wife in the truck, he was on his 10 hour reset with the truck off and was having sex with his wife, dispatch called him and told him that isn’t what a company vehicle is used for. He leases. He doesn’t drive company. There’s a lot of people bitching about this. It’s an invasion of privacy.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
That's absolutely a lawsuit even if they were company drivers.
Cleveland_Grackle@reddit
Sounds like a lawsuit to me.
12InchPickle@reddit
Damn that’s nice. I got $0 and cameras 🥲
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
They just thought they were giving me a camera. I got a new job instead.
Sir_Uncle_Bill@reddit
That was one of my gripes with the last company. They added cameras and took away $30k/year due to their best paying customer shutting down. They had nothing comparable but expected me to put up with thekr stupid new cameras that were annoying as absolute hell. Had they somehow offered a raise I may have thought about it longer. But in the end that camera was a no go, especially knowing I was losing a lot of moneys t the same time. Fuck em.
stephenforbes@reddit
I will only do it if they allow me to put a camera on them while they work.
Suge_White_619@reddit
Per hour? How do you make a living? I tell them, I put the cameras in that I want, when I want, and it's not being uploaded into a corporate cloud, it gets uploaded to my personal cloud. And if you don't like it, you can fuck straight off. By the way, I don't have any cameras that the company I'm leased with has access to. $5 an hour? An extra $400 a week wouldn't even get me out of my bunk, to even start my truck.
pufcj@reddit
My company just disabled the driver facing cameras
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
They can't be there forever. Tbh drivers are responsible for most accidents. Seems like we are handing most people their golden ticket for their lawsuit. Dosent leave any bartering room. Why did your company disable them?
pufcj@reddit
They said a bunch of companies have been getting sued for them for privacy violations or something, so they just disabled them. And I know they didn’t lie about it because I’ve had to review drive cam events in several different trucks and the driver side is always just a black screen.
MR_6OUIJA6BOARD6@reddit
I'm surprised my employer is actually against forward facing cams. Then again, they are also against raises, so it makes perfect sense.
Rudyscrazy1@reddit (OP)
He knows he'll be on the hook for the inevitable lawsuits when we rearend someone
ExamPatient@reddit
Until you have to make a fast decision and barely miss a 4 wheelet jn upr blind spot
ExamPatient@reddit
I don't need a baby sitter.don't track me route me. or tell me where when and how much fuel to put on and I don't need anyone to monitor my druving
muck2profit@reddit
Damn 5.50!
joeyggg@reddit
How about a 5.50 raise and no driver facing cameras?
Several-Guidance3867@reddit
How about a million dollar raise and no cameras
Actual-Money7868@reddit
Not bad at all, not like you're doing anything wrong anyhow
Danielbbq@reddit
My driver facing camera AI camera is 99% wrong every day!
Ceepeenc@reddit
I started with my company and they had the cameras. That’s pretty a sweet raise. Just do what they ask and it’ll be fine.
BL24L@reddit
You keep telling yourself that.
everythangspeachie@reddit
Really they gave a raise?
