I was feeding wild chicks by chewing their food for them. Am I at risk?

Great I’ve been doxxed

I'm not sure if they are available where you are but in Canada (Ontario), the tetravalent flu vaccines should protect from this bird flu as well as your normal seasonals.
birdflustocks@reddit
"Will seasonal flu vaccines protect against pandemic flu?
It is unlikely that seasonal flu vaccines would protect against a pandemic influenza virus. Seasonal flu vaccines that are used annually protect against currently circulating human influenza A and B viruses. They are not designed to protect against new influenza A viruses. A pandemic influenza virus would be very different from circulating seasonal influenza A viruses and thus seasonal vaccines would not be expected to offer protection."

What about the H1N1 vaccine that was given in 2009?
switchbladeone@reddit
So that's the thing, you're referencing bivalent flu vaccines, I'm talking about tetravalent vaccines.
I don't know what the other clubs are but seasonal A and B would be the first two and from what i’m told H5N1 is another which leaves one more strain that it protects against.
Jules6146@reddit
The Tetravalent in Canada and Europe contains H1N1 (A strain), H3N2 (A strain), and the two B strains (Victoria and Yamagata). It does not contain H5N1. If it did, I’d be on a plane to get a shot.
switchbladeone@reddit
Fair enough, I guess I was misinformed then. My appologies

Hey man, it is hard to keep up with everything and still have time to enjoy life. You may have been wrong about this tidbit, but think of it this way: had you not posted your comment, the correction wouldn't have been posted as well, and then someone else who may not have known, wouldn't have learned (me). So, thanks!
switchbladeone@reddit
That’s a pretty good way of looking at it.
Cheers!
cleaver_username2@reddit
I have to frame it that way for myself, I hate being corrected or proven wrong. Trying some inner-zen shit to be a better person :)

Please do your own research. Also here is specifically why this is not correct:
"But the idea of bundling H5N1 vaccine into the seasonal flu shot would cause regulatory challenges. The virus is not very immunogenic, meaning it doesn’t trigger a strong immune response in people. Research done nearly 20 years ago showed that in order to achieve what would probably be a protective response, the vaccine would need to be given in two massive doses; later research showed two regular sized doses with an adjuvant, a compound that boosts the immune response a vaccine generates, would likely provide protection. Most seasonal flu shots do not contain an adjuvant — the sole exception is a vaccine for seniors sold by Seqirus, which contains the company’s MF-59 adjuvant. Adding an adjuvant to the seasonal shots would change the vaccines enough that new licenses might be needed — a big lift for manufacturers. In addition, studies would be needed to make sure that the H5N1 component did not erode the immune response to the other components of the vaccines."
Source: When should we start making H5N1 vaccine, and who will make that decision? In short, it’s complicated

So we’re fucked essentially

The vaccine won’t come in time. The virus will kill us all

Really need to stress here that person-to-person contact has been ruled out for now. All of the patients are believed to have gotten it directly from contact with infected birds, which rules out a potential pandemic. That said, it could adapt, but hasn't yet.
Disastrous_Style_827@reddit
According to one article I read, it's possible for the virus to mutate into an airborne variant if it infects someone that has the regular influenza strain already. Based on that statement alone, it seems like a numbers game. There are foreign nations that might try to do this intentionally. Either way, the covid pandemic has taught us that these events should be prepared for, not ignored.
WillBottomForBanana@reddit
Sure.
If aliens invade they might murder anyone who cannot make monthly tithes of tungsten. Based on that statement alone I aught to be stocking up on tungsten.
Possibilities are infinite, we cannot prepare for everything. Probability is an important aspect of prepping.
Probability re: bird flu is almost irrelevant. If it is merely very bad then the base line prepping of stocked food and water, alternate heat sources, etc covers everything. If it isn't even bad then the base line still covers it. If it is worse than that, the additional prepping like boarding up the house simply cannot be done yet. There is no bonus prepping to be done for bird flu. Tracking its current location and status is all that can be done beyond baseline prepping. If someone hasn't reached base line then bird flu isn't a factor, because the probability that SOMETHING bad will happen is always going to be higher than the probability of a bird flu pandemic. So they need to reach baseline, not prep for bird flu.
Disastrous_Style_827@reddit
Look at COVID-19. In hindsight, there wasn't much warning before it became a pandemic. Why wait for a drastic change to occur when by then it would be too late. You're correct to say prepare for baseline, but buying a couple hundred N95 masks and a bit of hand sanitizer (among other things obviously) isn't that big of a change.
WillBottomForBanana@reddit
You don't have masks and sanitizer in your base line? What are you actually prepared for? Sasquatches?
Quirky_Basis6742@reddit
It’ll kill us all. Go to r/h5n1_avianflu
twohammocks@reddit
We need to increase monitoring and surveillance esp pigs.
Active_Background889@reddit
That’s why we’re fucked. We’re all going to die
jar1967@reddit
It is only a matter of time before it adapts.

I really feel like this shouldn't need to be said but I will anyway - stop kissing sick birds! 🤔
