voting question

a friend and i went to vote at the oak lawn library yesterday. when i voted i was able to vote on the propositions, but her ballot did not have that option. mine was seven pages long, where hers was 3. she only voted for the people. we’re both registered in Dallas county, and we’re roommates so we have the same registration. any ideas as to why that happened?

Well unlike some people... I see you're roommates so same address. The question is, did she update her address AND registration or just one? Did she get her license or ID changed over and report it as well? And if her prior info was not part of the city of Dallas. If both are not under the city of Dallas, that's likely why she got an outside ballot. The easiest way to tell is what her voter registration card says. Or her info when she looks it up for her polling locations. If both of your addresses match on your registration, well than I've got no clue.
Contrary to what some think, a simple change of address with the post office does not transfer everything over. My cousin forgot to change certain things over and has been summoned for jury duty for 6 year in a row. He's lived in Waco for 7. (But they also keep summoning a cousin that is deceased as well so meh)

It’s also illegal to vote if the address on your ID is not where you actually live. That’s why they ask before handing you a ballot.

That's a bit of misinformation. Your ID does not have to match where you live (many people's don't, that's why they also have a space for mailing address). However if your new address is outside of the required area, you can not vote until you register for your county. If the address on your ID does not match the area you are attempting to vote, it may not be able to be used as valid identification for voting because it could be fraud but it is up to the workers to decide to accept an ID or not as there are many rules and alternatives. Dallas county unlike some places have a county wide polling system. So as long as you reside in Dallas county, as well as any form of identification you use being valid, you can vote in Dallas county (though your ballot may be different because of local elections) IF you are registered in Dallas county.
It matters most where you are registered to vote, and that you have valid identification to vote. They ask about your actual address because that can change your local ballot or keep you unable to vote if you aren't even in the correct county.

If they are registered but their address doesn’t match the registration, they can still. It’s but it’s a “limited” ballot, which is why it was shorter
cluelessinlove753@reddit
Unlikely the case here. You can only get a limited ballot at the Dallas county main office. You can’t get limited at normal polling places

Might be because you live in different cities. I live in Dallas county but not the city of Dallas, I didn't get to vote for any propositions. My city had no propositions this election, the city of Dallas had loads.
Chosen1PR@reddit
The propositions are only for the city of Dallas. Your friend lives in another city in Dallas County, correct?
sunsetrules@reddit
I live in Dallas County but not Dallas. I voted in Dallas but I was not able to vote for propositions.

Did she update her address on her voter registration? Same address wouldn’t matter if either (or both) didn’t update your voter registration when you moved.

Perhaps does their DL address not reflect the current home you share?

I feel like this has to be the closest answer - everyone else commenting seems to have missed OP and their friend are roommates.
New-Honey-4544@reddit
Yeah, big time, c'mon people, it wasn't a huge wall of text.
New-Honey-4544@reddit
"we’re roommates so we have the same registration. "
Scrolling through the answers, it seems most didn't read the complete OP. Yours was the first one that did.

It’s per household.

Dallas County only admins the vote. Each person's ballot is still dependent on the precinct in where they live which means each city has different items on their ballot. You live in the city of Dallas, where those amendments exist.
Cobrakai469@reddit
I asked and it was because my precinct. I’m in Dallas county but outside the city limits
LTOTR@reddit
If it was a provisional ballot, it would be limited. I think those are only available at select locations though so I’m not sure.

City propositions maybe? I live in Garland but it’s Dallas county so I can vote anywhere in that county. I didn’t have any propositions to vote on. Is your address a Dallas proper address?
