The one “good” thing about hemorrhagic fevers is that they’re so lethal and quick that they kill their hosts before they can spread to too many people, especially in a first world country.
Big-Professional-187@reddit
Don't count on that. Viruses tend to mutate.
Capital_Gap_5194@reddit
Most viruses don’t have a high propensity to mutate actually
Big-Professional-187@reddit
Not unless you energize them or force mutation by encapsulation in vitro with another species tissue ie passaging.
ProfessionalCreme119@reddit
Viruses and bacteria go through thousands of mutations but it is an extremely small amount of times it actually changes anything about the virus or bacteria. Also the way a virus or bacteria travels or transmits itself from host to host is one of the rarest mutations it can go through.
If Ebola ever showed up as able to be passed through the air almost every scientist and doctor in the world would suggest it was manufactured. Because the odds of that happening naturally are completely astronomical.

Not having keep bodies in your house as part of your mourning tradition helps too

I didn't kill anyone I swear the head in my refrigerator is not mine

"It was there when I moved in."

"I just bought that freezer at goodwill"

Let’s wash the dead by hand too… oh wait I seem to be bleeding from my eyes now hmm
Opening_Career_9869@reddit
Our system would be overwhelmed in a hurry if it ever spread even a bit .. most hospitals couldn't take care of a dozen patients like that IMHO

Usually
PokeyDiesFirst@reddit
Bingo. Most of the reason Marburg and Ebola spread so widely in Africa is due to lack of sanitation, superstition toward modern medicine, and keeping the corpses of loved ones in open areas. Human bodies are MASSIVE public health hazards, with or without Ebola
Strict_Height_3741@reddit
Oh you got too be fucking with me
BennificentKen@reddit
It's just Lassa, it's not actually Ebola or anything like it other than the general category of hemorrhagic fevers. Very low human-to-human transmission.
middleagerioter@reddit
Lassa fever. Person to person transmission is low/rare.
BennificentKen@reddit
Thanks for naming which one it was. Lassa isn't an actual worry unless you call it "Ebola-like."
KountryKrone@reddit
Most don't want to know that. They'd rather be paranoid. ;)
SparseSpartan@reddit
yeah you know when it comes to hemorrhagic fevers, let's go ahead and keep people paranoid and on their toes.
I believe it was a strain of ebola that decided one day to air borne in an animal holding facility where it then made its way through the ducts and killed hundreds of monkeys across the facility.
These viruses may never go airborne human to human. Maybe they can't. But rather not roll the dice no matter how good the odds.
KountryKrone@reddit
While what you say isn't inaccurate, there is really no reason to get worried and scared about this.
DarthBullyMaguire@reddit
I'd be surprised if we haven't cooked up an airborne strain in some third world lab.
SparseSpartan@reddit
Not worried about any particular case, and especially a lone Lasso case with someone traveling back from West Africa. No need to panic, but we also shouldn't downplay the risk of serious diseases.
Flat_Boysenberry1669@reddit
Idk man I just can't take serously a virus that spreads through poop and blood.
I live in America and both of those things are easy to avoid and not something that would be able to spread rapidly here.

Seriously?!? I haven’t even heard of this one! I am very very sorry for the family. That is horrible.
ThisAudience1389@reddit
Please tell me this isn’t the Marburg virus.
Ok_Feedback_8124@reddit
Approximately 8% fatality. But 20% the transmissibility of SC2.
KountryKrone@reddit
It really isn't that big of a deal. Person to person is rare and it's usually transmitted via a specific rat's saliva, urine and feces.

Until the CDC updates it on Friday lol

I wish I had the $4 to know when I'm going to die. Guess the surprise will be fun.

Fine_Peace_7936@reddit
Im thinking the when will be 6 days and the how will be someone will be coughing up blood at the store and I won't know what's going on so I'll pat the guy on the back and use my tissue to clear the blood of his eyes before kissing them.
ALL BECAUSE WP WANTS MY LAST $4
Round-Importance7871@reddit
Now thats legendary

That would have to rank up there as the worst four dollars you ever spent in your life.

That’s what yall said for the elections as well and nothing happened
lucifv84@reddit
I said nothing about (on or of) elections. That being said, thanksgiving and deady biological virus outbreak in the US is something that everyone should be concerned about. unless you think bleach injections are the solution, then ignore me and party on wayne.
2oreos-1Twinkie@reddit
Don’t get so triggered hun I wasn’t attacking you personally, I’m just saying thats what many people said months ago for the elections
Easypossibilities@reddit
I believe you are the one who got triggered and is starting to go on with elections
