This is very expected. Continued escalation of Middle East conflict. If Iran strikes back, it won’t be good for the region. If Iran absorbs it and moves on, that would be ideal.
SludgegunkGelatin@reddit
Or, you know, Israel could stop entire villages’ worth of people at the slightest sign of resistance
Party_Author3884@reddit
TIL 100s of rockets daily into civilian areas for years is "slightest sign of resistance"
SludgegunkGelatin@reddit
TILA rockets vs bunker busters on hospitals are enough to make morons come out and comment
gandalf_el_brown@reddit
Another possibility is civil war breaks out within Iran, the religious Islamic regime is toppled.
Solo_Camping_Girl@reddit
I wish this would happen in our lifetime. Pretty sure Israel is into this.
phovos@reddit
Yes this triggers Iran's enrichment to weapons grade and their completion of their nuclear missiles in the next very short period of time. 7 days according to Scott Ritter.
Girafferage@reddit
We wouldn't escalate to that. We would drop a nation destroying amount of MOABs, but we wouldn't use a nuke.
phovos@reddit
that won't destroy their centrifuges. We built a nuclear bunker buster specifically to destroy irans deep centrifuges and russias mountain bases. Best we can do is genocide their peoples and hope they give up without using that.
65CM@reddit
🙄
Joshistotle@reddit
Yeah they're trying to pull us into another conflict and they would probably pull out some bull shit propaganda like the "WMD" lie they told the public for weeks just to get everyone to obey their orders.
GelloniaDejectaria@reddit
Tumor weeks
diamondman203@reddit
What does this mean?
ProtoSpacefarer@reddit
Iran will almost certainly retaliate. Heresay on X says that Israel's operation is still ongoing.
Unconfirmed reports of Iranian Air Force bases being hit, as well as other military materiel & logistical targets sustaining damage.
Looks like for now Israel is focusing on infrastructure and military targets, to mitigate civilian casualties. I honestly have no educated respinse on how this will impact things because we don't know the severity of the damage, and how Iran's allies will respond.
MyDogOper8sBetrThanU@reddit
Question for someone smarter than me, PBS said the US convinced Israel not to hit nuclear targets. Why the hesitation on hitting them? Radiation fallout? Dismantling irans ability to build nukes seems like a win
alvvays_on@reddit
Neither Israel nor the USA has the capability to stop Iran's nuclear program. The main facilities are very deep under a mountain.
And Israels nuclear facilities are also a sitting duck in case of retaliation.
bo-monster@reddit
Even facilities under mountains have entrances and ventilation to the surface. Remove those and productivity at the facility can be hindered to a large extent. Same goes for electric power. The more of the entrances you collapse, the longer it takes to dig them out.
BehindTheRedCurtain@reddit
Few thoughts. It’s established (publicly at least) that Israel could hit it and hurt it but not destroy the capability. This would push Iran to highly prioritize and speed up production capabilities. 2. There would be significant fallout
benjunior@reddit
Nuclear fallout.
Girafferage@reddit
I don't think there would be that much fallout. Detonating the actual bomb creates new radioactive material, but if you hit a plant that just enriches it, the maximum amount of radiation you are going to see is from the already existing materials, no?
bo-monster@reddit
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted, you’re essentially correct. Not to mention that bombing a facility like that is likely to scatter the fissile material, making it less likely you would end up with a critical mass, not more. Without the nuclear chain reaction the radiation levels will be fairly low.
Girafferage@reddit
Eh, some people like to feel like things are intense. It's whatever.
YouWantDeezNutz@reddit
I love how uninformed redditors downvote the guy stating facts but upvote those fearmongering and spreading misinformation. Emotions > facts is a core attribute on Reddit.
ShittyStockPicker@reddit
Oh god, I wish I could remember where the article was. There was a credible article about how Israel was training to out boots on the ground and extract them to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities. Not long term, but for hours, long enough to fight their way through an installation I guess. I believe e the plan involved support from Greece or something I found weird. I will look for it
Wild_Mongrel@reddit
Please do, particularly the part about Greece/any wider involvement from others with boots on the ground there. 🫤
ShittyStockPicker@reddit
This was about ten or so years ago, circa the stuxnet era. A local Los Angeles radio host was talking about it, a dude named Bryan Suits.
Wild_Mongrel@reddit
Got it, thanks.
ShittyStockPicker@reddit
I found an article. It talks about using Greece to practice for a war on multiple fronts. It’s hilarious if you replace “training” with operation the article credibly reads like it was written in 2024 instead of 2018.
https://www.timesofisrael.com/with-no-landings-israeli-jets-train-for-long-range-missions-in-greece/amp/
It does not describe training to seize and temporarily hold Iranian territory. That may have been speculation on the part of the radio host about what the exercise was about.
YouWantDeezNutz@reddit
There would not be significant fallout. Please learn about science and don't spread false information that other fear mongers will continue spreading. The amount of misinformation around all things nuclear has never failed to astound me.
porterica427@reddit
Mitigating escalation by leaving the nukes out of it. There’s a sentence I didn’t have on my 2024 bingo card.
Beneficial-Bat1081@reddit
Notice how countries with nukes never get fucked with. It’s in Irans interest to have a nuke as long as they play nice.
NicodemusV@reddit
Israel has nukes. It is just not officially acknowledged or even commonly known.
just_my_secret@reddit
Wasn't the problem with the nukes in Ukraine when the Soviet Union crumbled was their lack of direct control? Didn't the Kremlin control most of the nukes in Ukraine?
improbablydrunknlw@reddit
You are correct, Ukraine also could not afford to maintain them, they are tremendously expensive, like almost unfathomablely so, and a brand new country could not afford to maintain them at all.
Beneficial-Bat1081@reddit
Fair point.
BiggieAndTheStooges@reddit
Biden trying to appease his antisemitic base?
YouWantDeezNutz@reddit
Less about that, more about avoiding political impact to his party prior to the election. Winning matters more to politicians than anything else.
Enzo-Unversed@reddit
Do ya'll Zionists ever have any argument besides muh Anti-Semitism? I don't support Biden whatsoever, but he's an outright Zionist. He's nowhere near Anti-Semitic.
BiggieAndTheStooges@reddit
Biden a Zionist? lol. Ok gramps.
pacer101s@reddit
I know your not happy that he won’t greenlight the killing of as many Palestinian children as you would like, that must make you really sad huh?
BiggieAndTheStooges@reddit
I’m not happy with anyone getting killed. Btw, my condolences 💐 for Sinwar.
pacer101s@reddit
So using your own logic anyone who doesn’t agree with you is a terrorist. I see how it was so easy for you to genocide 200,000 Palestinian women and children now.
BiggieAndTheStooges@reddit
Looks like you’re new to this conflict. I’m not gonna escalate the convo 👍 peace!
pacer101s@reddit
Don’t let that stolen Palestinian house door hit ya on the way out
BiggieAndTheStooges@reddit

sadboymoneyjesus@reddit

BiggieAndTheStooges@reddit
So does most of America, what’s your point?
jacobean___@reddit
In his own words, and deeds, yes
ProtoSpacefarer@reddit
I read somewhere that Iran has numerous portable centrifuges for enriching nuclear metals all over the country so as to not cluster into a large target. They are widespread throughout tunnels/caves/bases in the various mountain ranges of the country.
This could be wrong, but it would make sense. Also the fact that direct strikes on nuclear facilities could and likely would trigger a reaction from Russia, China, or other nations in the region. We are (hopefully) pretty far away from any reputable nation striking another's nuclear facilities.
dre_columbus@reddit
I have no idea but that process doesn't seem to be mobile. It seems to require a high degree of precision and bouncing it around in a truck seems like a bad idea.
ProtoSpacefarer@reddit
https://www.iranwatch.org/our-publications/weapon-program-background-report/irans-centrifuges-models-status
I'm no expert. But here is a decent explanation
dre_columbus@reddit
Great info.
wyocrz@reddit
It would take nukes or a very sustained conventional campaign, well beyond Israel's capacity, to actually dismantle the Iranian nuclear sites.
They are buried and hardened.
grahamfiend2@reddit
CNN just had an analyst on that basically said “only the US really has the capability to destroy the Iranian nuclear sites” so I assume she was referring to very intense bunker buster style bombs that Israel doesn’t have.
LaserToy@reddit
Yes, MOP
often_says_nice@reddit
Couldn’t the US give these to Israel?
LaserToy@reddit
Only B2 spirit can carry them (2 at a time) as far as I know. They are very heavy
daviddjg0033@reddit
Mohammad Marandi, a conservative political analyst close to Iran’s government, downplayed Israel’s attacks in an interview with Al Jazeera television, before the strikes were over. Iran is telegraphing they do not plan on responding
youtubeaddict79@reddit
On X, there was a post that Iran was prepared to respond. Tried to find it to quote…
daviddjg0033@reddit
And did they? No.
ProtoSpacefarer@reddit
Well I certainly am praying for peace, things are just so chaotic right now I think everyone is on edge wordwide to some degree.
Modflog@reddit
Here in Australia, most of us are just trying to food on the table and pay our bills.
Gilly8086@reddit
Exactly! Hopefully inflation is getting better. Here in Canada, people are barely recovering from sky high inflation but some want war that will push gas prices and hence everything else, high again!
Modflog@reddit
Yeah same here I. Australia, all the war mongers appear to want war, while we the working people get done over at home through high everything , in the day to day living.
lukaskywalker@reddit
Well that’s for the best then. If they want to downplay it it means they are trying to Just accept this. I doubt it will stay this way. But we can hope.
Gas-Short@reddit
Accept it just like Lebanon?
Capital-Blackberry-2@reddit

daviddjg0033@reddit

YourePropagandized@reddit
If you believe Israel makes any effort to mitigate civilian casualties you should not only not be giving answers to questions like this, but you should expand the media you consume.
aynhon@reddit
Did Israel go after Khark?
rggggb@reddit
Not necessarily. This seems to be a deescalation move. No economic or nuclear targets is a deescalation move and Iran may be looking for an off ramp so they can keep developing nukes since their proxies are clearly not as useful as they thought.
Joshistotle@reddit
It's fucking terrible since it means another Mideast conflict JUST AS China has been ramping up hostilities against Taiwan. China just practiced blockading Taiwan a couple days ago and Xi Jinping told his troops to "prepare for war".
They absolutely are going to pull the US into a conflict around Taiwan, just as "our greatest ally" pulls us into another shit hole Mideast conflict. What the fuck.
escapefromburlington@reddit
You think that lie will work again so soon (relatively) after the Iraq war?
Girafferage@reddit
Russia and China both want the US tied up in the middle east. I just think its wild that we will be all because of Israel and now a country sided with one of those two I mentioned.
Joshistotle@reddit
Keep in mind Israel also has links to both Russia and China "on the low" and does business with both of them both directly and indirectly.
There's a lot more going on here than what's being told to the public, but you can infer there's some guys making a ton of profit off all of these constant conflicts.
cursedsoldiers@reddit
China also has significant ties to the US... That's just how they do things
Holy-Beloved@reddit
Literally
Girafferage@reddit
At least we, the American people, get to lose in all of this since we have literally no say
12ed12ook@reddit
We don't know until the damage is assessed. I imagine Israel is trying to send a message, rather than start a full scale war.
Spare_Yam2202@reddit
Nah they wanted war this whole time and are now serious about it. The last 365 days were just foreplay and teasing.
Listen_Up_Children@reddit
You were already proven wrong, based on the targets they hit.
slartbangle@reddit
That might not work out that way. Iran was fairly clear about this eventuality. I would guess that there will be a good test of the THAAD systems shortly.
pacer101s@reddit
The thaad was brought in to prepare for irans counter attack to this exact incident. The brass has been planning this, and implies the israeli strike is to escalate the situation, not deter further conflict.
Joshistotle@reddit
They've wanted the US to go to war FOR them for years. Netanyahu literally stated at his last UN speech that "with US support and leadership" they will neutralize Iran. Go look at his entire speech. Unhinged disgusting behavior. What has their nation ever done for the US?
Eraldorh@reddit
It means Iran shouldn't have launched a bunch of ballistic missiles at Israel.

There's actually a ton of people at the top that are profiting from this. The "big guys" that pay off the politicians with contributions are the ones that order them to convince the public to go to war.
The "big guys" have large stakes monetarily in the defense contractors and related companies.
They're ensuring a constant stream of US taxpayer dollars indirectly into their own pockets everytime theres some conflict on bullshit pretenses overseas.

The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them. To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

I mean they’re bringing North Korea into the Ukraine war even though that opens the door for western nations to send troops, so Putin isn’t always making the most logical decision.
That being said no, Russia will not be striking Israel any time soon. Lack of available resources as much as lack of motive.
Late_Key9150@reddit

Israel--and by extension, the U.S.--are lurching the world toward a global conflict, or even nuclear exchange, no sane nation in the world wants. We are the baddies guys. It's us. And right now, American people have a lot of power to do something about this, but they won't speak up in sufficient numbers.
readonlyy@reddit
America didn’t arm the Houthis and direct them to fire on shipping vessels. Iran provided the missiles and Russia provided the targeting intel. Why is it “boys will be boys” with them but we have to be the adults.
Sometimes deescalation involves giving bad actors consequences for their actions.
Wild_Matter_8847@reddit
You’re right. Biden could take away the settlements and the weapons but he never does. Boys will be boys…
No_Advisor_3773@reddit
You're either a retard or an Iranian bot.
First off - EVERY FUCKING CONFLICT HAS BEEN 100% IRAN'S FAULT. If you don't accept this blatent historical fact, you're retarded it's that simple.
Second off - Who the fuck is going to do a nuclear exchange? Israel has nukes, Iran does not, this is well known and well settled. Again, you're a fucking bot.
Third, holy shit, as an American it's 100% in our best interest to Desert Storm Iran like tomorrow. They cause more hell than Saddam could ever have dreamed of. And no, we shouldn't occupy that shithole. Obliterate the regime and leave the country in ruins. They start every fucking conflict, lets fucking end it.

sort of.. but israeli fighter jet flew to Iran back and forth, attack some stuff, And return home safely.. on the Iranian attack they tried on Air Force bases and failed.. now the Air Force come to their home. And they showed they can't defend themselves..

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe the time to do that has passed, or has not yet come. Maybe we should just let the entire Middle East collapse into itself. Maybe we should glass it all.
Either way, it would be silly not to strike at the moment of our choosing. By jumping into the fight with Israel, we would effectively be letting them dictate how and when we enter a conflict. Maybe I just have a problem with how the tail is wagging the dog here
freesoloc2c@reddit

I don’t think it’s as bad as anyone is saying. It’s just tit for tat right now. Keeping it to military targets and not going for an assassination strike or going after nuclear facilities and oil refineries actually keeps it even to the strike Iran did to Israel. Iran takes it on the chin with some damage and life moves on but it wasn’t an all out strike nor was it a crippling blow/existential hit that would make Iran strike back harder. We probably see this go back and forth. Iran knows they can be hit by Israeli air relatively easy and that potentially makes them a little afraid to escalate it.
IsItAnyWander@reddit
Remember when the US was saying Iran only needed 2 weeks for a nuke? I figure that was bullshit, I hope so anyway.
WSBpeon69420@reddit
Israel has to play its cards pretty close. If they went after the sites but failed to destroy them or didn’t have the capability to destroy them then Iran learns the capability or lack thereof. Better to keep them worried and guessing than let Iran know they are safe
