I mean, its kinda a non-brainer for us who are not Americans. Dems are much more in favour of cooperating with the outside world, especially with the EU/Allies, while Trump wants to focus more on problems in USA and isolate more from the rest of the world.
Aenjeprekemaluci@reddit
Wallahi at some point we cant always dickride America. We Europeans need to reindustrialize to get independent as a block. I say this because once the internal problems catch up so hard to the US, that their power projection takes a toll, we will be fucked with countries like Serbia just waiting for that and Russia again. This scenario will only happen in a few decades rather then years. But we need longterm planing with Plan B. Not to mention such a scenario will embolden Eastern powers against Europe even more. I hate Trump but in this thing he could be a blessing in disguise.
zdubargo@reddit
‘We Europeans’ says an Albanian, while noting the danger of ‘countries like Serbia’ as if Serbia is not European. Do you think you’re a Westerner or something? Do you think Serbia is some extremely distant land where the only desire is to destroy European unity? If anything, Serbia is far more ‘western’ in its society and culture than Albania will ever be. At least we don’t have blood feuds like it’s the 18th century and flex on tiktok how our criminals are the toughest in the world 💀
I wonder if you’re all that thick or it’s just a one-off (I truly and sincere hope it’s the latter)
Hot_Satisfaction_333@reddit
Yeah, with turbofolk and how you treat war criminals as superstars and motivational, you are absolutely very western lol
zdubargo@reddit
Turbofolk is a regional shitty music genre, which you will hear in different forms from Zagreb to Athens to Chisinau. The Dutch, Germans, etc. all have their variations of their folk music with techno beats.
Albania, on the other hand, uniquely, has certainly given us great classical music composers and performers, and is world-renowned for its refined population which listens to the finest pieces of Schubert and Bach on their nights out. Give me a break.
Who treats war criminals as superstars and motivational? Are you that delulu? Serbia handed over all their war criminals to the ICTY, as a condition to commence negotiations with the EU. On the other hand, Kosovo elected Hashim Thaci, whose trial is still ongoing for war crimes, as President. You have monuments to Adem Jashari all over the place, and even named Pristina airport and stadium after him (in the absence of any real historically significant figures).
You will never see anywhere in Serbia anything dedicated to Mladic, Karadzic, Milosevic etc. other than some far-right graffiti now and then.
Talk about glorifying war criminals lmao
NightZT@reddit
On a sidenote: I once was in Kruja and had a random conversation with some old janitor who communicated with me in italian (I don't speak italian) and showed me his music collection which was one of the finest vinyl record collection of classical music I've ever come across.
I hate when westerners and wannabe westerners demonize serbia and the serbian people for some stupid government actions or even for valid scepticism regarding eg NATO. But thinking about the albanians as if they are some uncivilized apes without culture is also far from reality.
This behavior prevents us from standing up for our european interests and freeing us from US hegemony.
zdubargo@reddit
I wasn’t saying that Albanians are uncivilised. Music belongs to the entire world, and of course there will be people in Albania who are incredible classical musicians and listen to this type of music.
My only music related argument was that their music is not any better than ours, and that the turbo folk argument is completely void. I just wanted to ridicule his comments with a bit of sarcasm.
Qaidd@reddit
Wait… wasn’t Skanderbeg Albanian? Why not name some landmarks after him instead?
zdubargo@reddit
Skanderbeg is seen as the national hero of Albania today, yes. Has nothing to do with Kosovo though, especially considering Kosovo was overwhelmingly Serbian at the time. And they do name things after him (like the excellent cognac they produce for example).
Qaidd@reddit
Good to know, another one on to-do-list. Still, a cognac brand is like two or three tier below an airport or a stadium, and I have absolutely no idea who the other two guys you mentioned are.
Successful_Crazy6232@reddit
Albania has given us the blues brothers and Dua Lipa. No need to be sarcastic.
zdubargo@reddit
No, the USA and the UK gave them. Despite being a mid singer (though crazy hot) Dua Lipa is not from Albania but from Kosovo.
Disulphate@reddit
Aint no way a serb is complaining a country is “glorifying a war criminal” as if Serbs haven’t made countless war songs praising actual war criminals.
Serbs, slavs or whatever you are you should stop obsessing over Albanians, which is really strange lmao
zdubargo@reddit
Lmao he said that Europeans need to unite against Serbia as if Serbia isn’t European. We live in Albanian heads rent-free
Disulphate@reddit
Pipe down slav, what i see online is hordes of your kind hating on Albanians since tender age, brainwash other ethnicities into believing Albos are not European cause they are muslim and actively try to manipulate history, while most Albanian kids i bet wouldn’t even know what Serbia is. Really cringe and thank God i’ve fallen into the deep Balkan pipeline or I wouldn’t have seen this.
zdubargo@reddit
Why do you use Slav think it is an insult? Proud Slav, always will be. I literally said they’re European below, idk what you’re on about. The term Albo is inexplicably cringy btw.
Disulphate@reddit
Damn weird flex, but either way did you even read what i said, HE stated that you are very western.
You know it better than me that your county is not aligned with Western politics which as it stands is US/EU oriented(not saying wether this is good or not) and you do not need a polsci degree to understand it, no wonder he, at first did not include Serbia, becouse compared to other countries is not as willing to go into EU and much less be part of a union, outside of Belgrade i bet people would be much more willing to be a Russian vassal rather than being even remotely associated with the US sphere.
Funny also how you just cherrypicked what to respond to, i suppose and this is just a assumption, you know deep down that what i said is correct and probably will just ignore it becouse at the end, the Kosovo/Serbia issue is a matter of pride, Serbs do not accept the loss to this day. Which is kinda funny becouse who would want a poorer region/country with 2 milion angry people back into their country and to which you’ve never been and probably couldn’t name a city of, just to get back your (not even that relevant compared to the rest of the country) cultural heritage? Doubt it, i bet people couldn’t even name a castle in Kosovo yet somehow they feel it as their cultural heritage.
It all boils down to a matter of pride and both sides know it, no wonder Balkans try to boast their history online, try to flex “their empires” and manipulate history of “their country’s enemies”, this one massively done by Serbs and Greeks, i saw once in wikipedia on a topic related to Macedonia how most attempted changes were made by Greek alts, it was so bad that they put a “MACEDONIANS ARE GREEK” image as the frontpage image and i have countless other anecdotes, but Balkans fail to understand that they still have amazing history nevertheless and do not need to invent things.
I could go on a full comment on this topic and this is just the iceberg.
zdubargo@reddit
Why is that a weird flex? When you’re a Slav in Western Europe, the constant belittling attitude you receive from Westerners provokes two natural reaction - you either distance yourself from your origin, or you embrace it proudly.
I will seriously respond to this comment now, without any shitposting. I do apologise for how long my reply will be, as well as for using technical terms which many won’t be familiar with - I am sure you will though.
I know my country’s politics very well. I also know how the EU works inside out, which legal and political mechanisms are at place and I have done substantial academic research on EU enlargement (I wrote my master’s thesis on it). Serbia, legally speaking, is a candidate for membership. Negotiations started in 2014, and have stalled since. There are plenty of factors that need to be considered here, and narrowing it down to ‘Serbia wants to be a Russian vassal’ is dismissive and irresponsible, particularly from the EU’s perspective. Many people in Serbia feel exhausted by the EU’s lack of willingness to accept new members, which also contributes to the current support for membership. There are plenty of reasons why this ‘enlargement fatigue’ is in place but I won’t waste time by opening this second Pandora’s box. Of course, the Serbian government is also extremely incompetent and unwilling (for their own reasons, mainly corruption) to align with the acquis communautaire, the body of EU law which candidate countries must accept into national law in order to join the EU. The main concern of course, is the alignment with the Common Foreign and Security Policy. The second issue is of course the status of Kosovo - Chapter 35 of the negotiations with the EU is essentially only about this topic, which is sui generis for the case of Serbia and will address it later.
While I always enjoy rattling up Balkan nationalists, including Serbs, what triggered me with this person’s comment in particular was the grouping together of Russia and Serbia into one box, which is just plainly factually, legally and politically incorrect, and is a common tactic deployed by Albanian nationalists to portray Serbia as a threat to Europe. Serbia is a tiny country, with such little significance that it is laughable to discuss this. It is, most importantly, economically and in most cases, politically, on the side of the EU, despite the populist rhetoric coming from the government, which maybe leads the worst foreign policy for Serbia since Milosevic. Conversely, Serbia and Albania, as countries, have completely acceptable relations and are becoming more economically dependent on each other - in my opinion, a great thing.
Now - I do understand that Kosovo Albanians see Serbia as a threat to what they see as an independent and sovereign country and will use any opportunity to push this narrative. The real truth is that Serbia cannot take back Kosovo, and no government, no matter how nationalistic, would not attempt to do that right now. Especially not this one, which has given the Pristina institutions essentially everything they asked for and more - due to sheer incompetence more than anything else.
Of course Kosovo is a matter of pride. The Kosovo myth is an integral part of our national identity, and played a massive part in the Serbian nation-building of the early 19th century. It is a very emotional subject for many Serbs. And most people know at least something about it.
But also, of course it is a de facto independent country. We lost the war. Now, this independence, in my humble opinion, goes against every principle of public international law. The 2010 ICJ Advisory Opinion completely disregards what was practice until then. I suggest you watch the video made by Professor James Ker-Lindsay on this topic, if you’re interested, for a more objective explanation.
Now, the population in Kosovo, primarily Albanian, hates Serbs - they have been taught to hate them from a young age. Not saying that Serbs don’t hate Albanians, of course they do - but the feeling is much stronger on the Albanian side. It is true that 1.5 million people there do not want to become a part of Serbia again. But there are still over 100,000 Serbs there, who are worried that they will be forced to leave their homes, assimilated into Albanians, etc. and Serbia cannot leave these people alone. In a perfect world, of course, a multi-ethnic independent Kosovo - why not? The reality though is that Kosovo is not this today, but rather an Albanian irredentist entity with the goal to merge with Albania. This is why it is fundamentally necessary to prevent anything like this from happening.
Anyway, sorry for the long comment, and if I missed anything do let me know. Peace ✌️
Hot_Satisfaction_333@reddit
When I mentioned that we have given you great classical composers and performers, and that we are a center around this music? I don’t think so, Albania is not, neither is Serbia :)
Graffiti with Mladic and Karadzic are common in your country, statues dedicated to Milosevic and “some” protesters who often hold their portraits together with Putin’s. Tell me why Arkani and Seselj appeared on the show as superstars, or their soldiers. Or the turbofolk singers who sing to these criminals, oh, I forgot about the shows with presenters who dressed up like an ancient Egyptian, “casting spells” on phone callers to remove their spells.
Even though after this you still think you are more Western than the Albanians will be in their lives. Lol. It is sad your victimization (not you personally) towards westerners who use stereotypes against you and seek awareness when you do the same thing for Albania and Albanians even though you know nothing about them and have never been to that country.

As much as I dislike Macron, he is very right in saying that we need to look outside of the US-China duopoly. We have a chance to form a third power, yet we're used to the cold war, and it seems we've already accepted that there will be a second bipolar cold war. Why have Europeans already surrendered to the US in this hypothetical new conflict? Why can't we start to look for ourselves? It doesn't mean that we'll hate America and never look at the USA anymore, it just means that we'll have more decisional power in our own continent. It's not like we're rebuilding and we're in dire need of a Marshall Plan, we are just militarily dependent on them. NATO could still very well exist even if the EU united itself, and it would be a much more equal alliance, without a dominating power.
TheWiseSquid884@reddit
It's very unlikely to happen.
sjedinjenoStanje@reddit
France has been touting the "multipolar world" for literally decades. It's about time to stop talking about it and put plans into motion, but it's easier to gripe about something than to do something about it, esp when you've undoubtedly been a beneficiary of US hegemony.
drjet196@reddit
We also need enough military power to counter Russia. Currently the US is by far the largest Nato spender. Without the US, Europe needs to cooperate with countries like Turkey which hasn‘t worked great in recent times.
papamikebravo@reddit
This is pretty much the one area where Trump has a valid point: too many NATO (read: European) nations have neglected investing their ability to defend themselves while under the aegis of the Pax Americana. While the US spends frightening sums of money on defense, we are also under the impossible position of being both despised for and expected to be some sort of global protector of other smaller nations. It's not possible to "stay out of everyone's business" and yet also be expected to clean up everyone's messes, especially when those messes impact our business, often literally so. Pirates off Somalia? Where's the US Navy? Houthis attacking commercial shipping? Where's the US Navy? Russia invades Ukraine? Wheres the US designed and built weapons? ISIS running loose? Where's the US troops? It's an untenable position that one day will have to be shared if not surrendered entirely. Let's not forget that the US is TRILLIONS of dollars in debt, a number which grows staggeringly larger every year...
MentalniManipulator@reddit (OP)
Europe is too fragmented to do that, especially with degenerates like Fico in Slovakia and Orban in Hungary. "We Europeans" isn't really a strong term like "We Americans" is.
Aenjeprekemaluci@reddit
But just being backwater of the US isnt a solution either. No one outside Europe takes us serious really. Laugh at BRICS but they are formenting something that could leave us in the dust geopolitically speaking. We have the wealth but we are increasingly just living off our substance and dont progress as we used to.
SnakeX2S2@reddit
Yes I agree, we are currently too much dependent on them, but that’s the problem as well: we can’t just break that chain that easily, it would destroy us.

You’re forgetting all the women and black republicans that will vote for Harris cause of demographic representation and stance on abortion & welfare
labeatz@reddit
There aren’t very many black republicans or very many people that swapped from Democrat to Trump, no
What does exist in certain “rust belt” areas like mine are working class people who used to have well-paying (otherwise shitty) industrial jobs, who used to vote Dem without thinking about it bc they were in a union. They are rightfully disillusioned with all mainstream politics, which is why some voted for Obama first and then also Trump
It’s not a lot of people, but they are in “swing states” (which is to say, most people’s votes literally don’t count, you have to be in a swing state to matter)
My wife is from a shithole ex-Yugo country and I’m from one of these shithole USA Rust Belt cities, we feel a lot in common
Soujj_@reddit
Yeah should clarify 90% of movement is from those who don’t have party membership or have voted along a party line for like a decade, but those that are less partisan, who voted Republican in 2020. Women will shift towards Democrat as abortion is a bigger issue than in 2020 (biggest issue for that campaign was Covid tbqh,) but more Whites will shift to Trump on immigration and intervention, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s more demographically polarised compared to 4 years ago.

I think no one needs this. As a Romanian who is Hungarian friendly, I imagine the consequences. The ideal to me would be a Transylvania where the Hungarian community is preserved, respected and allowed to florish. I would also be for local autonomy and bilinguism but the overwhelming majority of Romanians is against it so there must be other ways. Anyway, a Kosovo-like situation would be impossible, since (1) the Szekely region is an enclave (2) Internationally, Romania is now and since 3 decades the good pupil for EU, USA and NATO and Hungary the black sheep because Orban's policies, so Romania will be supported in case of a civil national conflict. The best would be that Simion doesn't win the elections.
phil_the_hungarian@reddit
I agree.
The Partium is next to the border but co-existance is probably the best there. I live next to the border and people are living together like good neighbours.
Ofc, I've seen a couple anti-magyar jerks in places like Cluj, usually from people whose (grand)parents were settled in during the 20th century. From my experience, they are an eyesore for the Romanians too who have lived in Transylvania or the Partium for many generations.
But I can also understand the Romanian nationalists' standpoint because Hungarians get a lot of extra funds and have a higher birth rate than Romanians. They are scared af.
AndreiTatescu@reddit
I a not anti-Hungarian. I think we should coexist peacefully in an environment with equal rights and mutual respect. I think that it is not good that minorities get more rights than Romanians such as extra funding or free seats in parliament, where a Romanian political party needs to get 5% or more to get any seats. That means that 500,000 Romanians could vote but have 0 representation. I don’t even know why Italians get a free seat for example. That is not equality. There can’t be any autonomy because Romania is an indivisible state. I would like to strengthen our relationship with Hungary but we must also recognize that Hungary has different interests than us.
phil_the_hungarian@reddit
I've always like how Romanians always claim that there can't be autonomy because Romanian is indivisible, yet countries can be federalised or have autonomous regions besides that. Constitutions can change
You've even had the Magyar Autonomous Region between 1952 and 1968.

Then don't say that "yeah, our constitution won't let us do that" just say your opinion in the first place.
You've complained that morities get more rights. "You don't like it, too bad."
Btw you'd need to change laws, possibly even the constitution to cut back on those advantages.
In conclusion, you only support changing the status quo if it negatively effects minority rights
Infinite_Procedure98@reddit
This is also my feeling. I've been a few times ago in Timisoara and Cluj: in Timisoara, even if there remain very few Hungarians, Germans or Serbs, there is a strong will to promote these cultures and people are very respectful and inclusive of them (the day I came, there was a great festival of the Hungarian culture in the center). Instead Cluj seemed to me opressive and like wanting to erase from public space everything Hungarian. and Covasna-Harghita will be every time more Hungarian because most Romanians won't go to live in a region practically monolingual Hungarian and where, besides, is underdeveloped and with few job oportunities.

Qaidd@reddit
No need to write so much, just substitute “pro-Russian” for all the empty slogans above. Why beating around the bush?
CriticalHistoryGreek@reddit
Is it though?
Is it "pro-Russian" being against capitalism and especially its current form where everything is getting privatized and increasingly dependent on a few billionaire multinationals? When Russia is also a capitalist country and at that the biggest one when it comes to area?
Is it "pro-Russian" to be against the neoliberal politics of the EU and the war mongering and militarism of NATO? I mean, some "you're either with us or against us" types of people might claim it is the case. Yet this polarization brings nothing good to the world geopolitical scene.
As for the last two, these have nothing to do with being with either imperialist power.

Lets say the second becomes president of Romania. What do you predict will happen?
Relevant_Mobile6989@reddit
He won't last long, and I predict he'll make some reckless decisions during his first trip abroad. His party primarily targets lower-income citizens with limited education, people willing to accept anything for a few euros. This guy is already banned from entering two of Romania's most important neighbors—Ukraine and Moldova—which is a major red flag. Why he's even allowed to run in these elections remains a mystery. For the past two elections, there haven’t been any truly suitable candidates for this role, so we ended up choosing a placeholder to act as president. And now, here we go again.
AndreiTatescu@reddit
Are you really going to vote for Ciolacu instead? Why does it matter what other countries think anyway? Who cares if they ban Simion.
Relevant_Mobile6989@reddit
Are you stupid or something? The purpose of a president is to represent our country and our people abroad. He is banned from entering two of our closest neighbors, both culturally and strategically. This guy is completely unfit for the role. But leaving this huge issue aside, the ideology promoted by his party, AUR, is nonsense and absurd. Furthermore, many key people within AUR are suspected of money laundering, having connections with Russia, and who knows what else. AUR is basically an extension of PSD, the worst disease in Romanian politics. Ciolacu is off my list, obviously, as are Ciucă and other ex-communists. The reality is that we'll end up choosing the least bad option, but definitely not from PSD, PNL, or AUR. It amazes me how many people still support the same old nonsense after so many investigative reports, shared documents, and interviews. This guy is now involved in helping people whose homes were damaged by floods, just so you and other fools will turn a blind eye and vote for them. The truth is, nobody really cares except the people from that region and the areas nearby. If someone truly cared, with the connections Simion and other corrupt individuals have, everything would have been resolved in no time. In Romania, cheap propaganda still works well due to the lack of education and common sense.

It would be a shock because Romania have been since the nineties the obedient good pupil of the EU, USA and NATO, keeping extremes at bay and doing everything that was asked to them, even by sacrificing national interests and never say a single "no" to any request, even if it went 100% against national interests. The line was always "kissing butts and saying amen to everything which is asked to us". Ruining small farmers for the norms of the UE? Done. Selling expensive gas to conform the EU policies to its citizens when Romania has plenty of gas for itself? Done. Not judging a drunken US GI who killed a Romanian in a car accident? Done. The examples may continue.

Infinite_Procedure98@reddit
Let's not complicate foreign Balkan pals with this details. PSD is doing more social than liberals. Why do you think grandpas and grannies and countryside vote for them? It's center left. I'm not saying it's good or not corrupted or not "securistic". They are part of the establishment. These are internal affairs. And Simion, did you hear him at Radio Guerrilla 2 days ago? He said we have to cut subsidies of any kind because people shall stop living assisted and we have to encourage free initiative and he sees himself as Romania's Trump. Put things into perspective: PSD is CENTER LEFT. Look at what happens in other countries. Do you? I do. One might say there is no left... left. But we have to use a conventional way to express ourselves unemotionally and keeping into account realpolitik. It doesn't matter what I hate or what you hate, this is not the problem. There's been 15 years I don't vote anymore for Romanian elections, I live in WE but PSD is CENTER LEFT and liberals are CENTER RIGHT and AUR is populist that proves to be more right than left and USR is... USR is not, USR is pitiful. This is internal cusine.

Imagine what happened in the other 4 years of war. If you travel to Serbia you would see constant celebration of those criminals. Typical, Serbia wants Trump because he is buddies with Putin.
perkonja@reddit
Yeah, everyone is making decisions based on some holy knowledge and perfect consciousness, but us Serbs, we just love Putin <3
zdubargo@reddit
1) Trump is popular in Serbia because there was some fake news during the 2016 campaign that he apologised for the 1999 bombing, which of course isn’t true - the guy called for a ground invasion lol.
2) Because the Democrats (Clinton) bombed Serbia, there is a general dislike of this type of politicians, and Trump is seen as someone who goes against the regime which harmed the country. Harris is essentially seen as a continuation of Biden, who is seen as a continuation of the Clintons and their clique.
3) Serbs like strongmen politicians. That’s why we have Vucic now, had Milosevic in the 90s, Tito before, King Alexander before that. That’s why a lot of people like Putin. Regimes which were more pro-democracy oriented inevitably failed. I think it’s because of the idea of perpetually being in a crisis, and that we need ‘a leader’ to get us out of it. Of course, this representative of a specific section of the electorate, who tends to be of lower economic status, lesser education and pensioners, which unfortunately always vote (cca 30% of the population)
Immediate_Elk_3220@reddit
This is largely true. I’m a Serb from the US and I can attest to the fact that the vast majority of diaspore Serbs in the US are Trump supporters. I personally despise Trump, but many of the anti-Democratic Party sentiments are a direct result of the 1999 NATO bombings, so when Hillary became the Democratic nominee back in 2016, most Serbs voted for Trump as a protest vote against Hillary, but as the years progressed most Serbs started to fall for the MAGA mind virus and became massive Trump supporters. Your point about strongman leaders is also quite accurate, since many American Serbs worship the man like he’s an idol who will somehow “drain the swamp” and “rid the country of illegals” (even though the vast majority of them came to the US as refugees after the Yugoslav Wars). It’s quite sickening, if you ask me.
zdubargo@reddit
I mean you see the anti-immigrant rhetoric in other immigrant groups as well - aren’t Florida Cubans the most die-hard Republicans?
The truth is that the quality of life declined in all of the Western world over the last few years, and offering a simple solution while blamjng it on a specific group (i.e. ‘get rid of illegals’) is a tried and tested method to play on the people’s most basic emotions.
Now - did immigration negatively affect people’s lives? To some extent, yes - but this is not their fault and they should not be blamed for it.
Immediate_Elk_3220@reddit
Oh yeah, you get the same sort of anti-immigrant sentiments out of many different immigrant communities in the US. Cubans are kind of a notoriously unique example, due to their history with communism in their motherland. It’s actually somewhat of a weird overlap between Serbian and Cuban voters, since they’re both anti-Democrat for roughly the same reason, at least presently.
Now, with regards to quality of life, Americans struggling right now due to an inflationary crisis that is only recently beginning to subside, and even then prices have only stalled and haven’t been reduced much, if at all. It’s really easy, then, for Republican/neo-conservative politicians to hop on the immigrant-blaming bandwagon and rile up their base.
Immigration definitely has more benefits than drawbacks, at least in the American context. We’re already a melting bit of different racial/ethnic groups as is, and the vast majority of migrants coming in are still Mexican and/or Central American, so culturally we know how they are since we’ve had such close contact with them for decades. It’s the Middle Eastern and African migrants that many people here panic about, and a lot of that is tied to America’s racist history.
DotSure8753@reddit
When did trump ever say he wants a ground invasion of Serbia?
zdubargo@reddit
Can’t seem to find it on youtube, it’s the interview with Larry King. He says, and I am paraphrasing, ‘look at the deaths we caused, look what we did to that country’ (where Serbian media would usually cut it) and then said ‘you have to send in ground forces at some point’.

MentalniManipulator@reddit (OP)
There is no split available, and it would probably have high statistical uncertainty because for the whole B&H about 500 people were questioned. But my feeling would be Bosniaks - 60-20-20 (Harris, undecided, Trump) Serbs - 20-20-60 Croats - 30-30-40
Hakuoh_13@reddit
I guess you’re talking about orthodox and catholic Bosnian citizens when you say Serbs and Croats - right?
sunnyseasnail@reddit
We have three major ethnicities in our country and those are their names. All three ethnicities could technically be of any religion (or no religion) but, as it happens in many places in the world, certain ethnicities tend to practice certain religions.
You're being very flippant by calling these people by their assumed religion instead of acknowledging their ethnicity, because ethnicity comes before religion. Ethnicity is something you're born as, just as race, while religion is passed on culturally.
Yes, they are all Bosnian citizens if they have Bosnian citizenship, but that does not erase their ethnicity and I don't see why people would want to hide that. It's like saying people shouldn't discuss relations between different races in the US, as well as any differences in political opinions.
No one says: "They're all Americans, stop talking about race", when people discuss how different racial demographic groups in the US tend to vote, etc.
Hakuoh_13@reddit
This doesn’t make any sense. A Bavarian is still German, a person from Catalonia is still Spanish. Or have you ever heard a Bavarian saying that he is Austrian? The only thing that makes a „Bosnian Croat“ a Croat, is his religion. Same goes with a „Bosnian Serb“. Or why do they have different names? Bosnia is the ONLY country in the world where that’s the case. Thats because of the Dayton agreement Izetbegovic signed.
Either you’re a catholic Bosnian, an orthodox Bosnian or a muslim Bosnian. But a Bosnian Serb or Croat, doesn’t exist to me. We are all still BOSNIANS in Bosnia (if you’re an actual citizen). Serbs or Croats live in Serbia or Croatia.
sunnyseasnail@reddit
You are mentioning regions instead of ethnicities. You refuse to grasp the concept of ethnicity. Ethnicity is a subcategory of race. It's not that hard to understand.
Try to educate yourself about what ethnicities actually are. It's more than just someone's religion.
A Japanese American is Japanese by ethnicity and American by citizenship. It's a fascist position to deny this person their connection to their ethnicity and to claim they should only have an American identity. The same goes for all ethnicities in Bosnia.
There are also Roma people in Bosnia, and other minorities. They are Bosnian by citizenship but that doesn't mean their ethnicity does not exist.
Hakuoh_13@reddit
But in Bosnia the „ethnicity“ is determined by religion. Or do you want to deny the fact, that all Bosnian Croats are catholic and all Bosnian Serbs are orthodox? Same goes with the Bosniaks, they’re all Muslims. Or is it again my dumb/uneducated brain?
I know what ethnicity is, but in Bosnia it just works different.
Most of those so called Bosnian Serbs or Croats, don’t even identify themselves as Bosnians.
But yeah, I guess it’s my fault.
As long as you can live with that mindset, I hope you will get happy with that.
InfantryGamerBF42@reddit
Of course they will not, when people like you exist who are ready to deny there ethnicity.
sunnyseasnail@reddit
It's not. It is determined by birth. If your parents are Bosniaks, you're a Bosniak. If your parents are of different ethnicities, you're mixed or half-half of two ethnicities.
I already previously said that certain ethnicities tend to practice certain religions. I don't see how or why would that make you think that their ethnicity is not real. Ethnic identity and religious identity do not cancel each other out.
There is no reason it would work different in Bosnia. We're also different peoples with our own separate histories and cultures just like everyone else.
They may not acknowledge that part of their identity, but it is there. They do have Bosnian citizenship. If they prefer to ignore their citizenship and focus on their ethnicity they're free to do so. It doesn't mean we should ignore their ethnicities and just focus on citizenship. It's not always out of malice either. If I am talking about something that is specific only to my people (Bosniaks) I will say that it is about Bosniaks, but if I'm talking about something general about the whole country I will say that it is about Bosnians and Herzegovinians.
That's the issue here, it's not a mindset. It's an objective category that exists everywhere, but for some reason, certain Bosniaks refuse to accept it.
MentalniManipulator@reddit (OP)
Yeah, they identify themselves as Serbs and Croats.
Hakuoh_13@reddit
Oh I know that, just wanted to be sure I understood right. The only country in this world where this happens. Never heard of a German muslim saying that he is Arabian, just because he’s a muslim 🤦🏼♂️
MentalniManipulator@reddit (OP)
Ahh, you are one of those that think that way. I am not going to argue with you, it's useless. You realize that Bosniaks consider themselves as Bosniaks literally for that same reason you wrote - just because they are muslim. Hahahaha
sunnyseasnail@reddit
Yes, he is wrong but you don't need to encourage him by using the same false notions of ethnicity when it comes to Bosniaks. Not all of us are that ignorant and we realize what ethnicities are and that they should all be respected.
Hakuoh_13@reddit
The word „Bosniak“ is first mentioned around 1000 years ago, when there weren’t any Turks in the Balkan and before people converted to Islam. Bosniak just means Bosnian, but people gave that word a religious connection. A catholic Serb is not a Croat and a orthodox Croat is not a Serb. It’s that simple.
sunnyseasnail@reddit
'Bosniak' does not mean 'Bosnian' today, regardless of whether or not it meant that in the past. Words change meaning over time. None of us speak the same way people here spoke 1000 years ago.
You're rather ignorant if you don't realize the difference between ethnicity and citizenship. An ethnically Chinese person could come to Bosnia and gain citizenship and they would never be a Bosniak, or a Croat or a Serb because their ethnicity will always be Chinese.
And, no one said they are? An orthodox Serb in Bosnia is still a Serb because that's his ethnicity. He could be of any religion or an atheist and he'll still be a Serb because ethnicity is like race.
I am both a Bosniak and a Bosnian, and I'll be a Bosniak no matter where I go and what citizenship I have. If I go to Germany and gain German citizenship, I'll still be ethnically Bosniak and German by citizenship. If I have children in Germany they'll also be Bosniak or half-Bosniak by ethnicity, depending on my partner.

Those indexes are written by someone I dont deem objective. Ask Noth Korea what they think of US. The same agency that reported so many arrests of news reporters in Russia stated that 0 reporters have been arrested in Ukraine during the vonflict in spite of everyone knowing about Gonzalo Lira, a US citizen arrssted by azov troops for reporting news. They dated put 0 thre in spite of his arrest being widely known. After I saw that, I just lost all respect in their data. It's a fart in the wind.
Comming from the guys who supported Navalny, who urged genocide against Chechnyans and non Rus mskes this even more funny. And I have a video of him doing it. He uploaded it on his own YouTube channel years ago.
Gaming_is_cool_lol19@reddit
I wonder why quality of life, average income, etc are far better in the west than Russia, Serbia, India, and the PRC, your own little ‘new eastern bloc’?
Yare-yare---daze@reddit
Is it? Russia doesn't have housing problems or rampant homeless population... LA, NY, all 9f these big places have homeless hordes through them. Housing is ridiculously expensive to the point a closet sized spartmet in 1500$ a month.
Gaming_is_cool_lol19@reddit
Even Moscow news admits there is a new housing issue. Mortgage rates are skyrocketing rn.
https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2024/10/18/russias-real-estate-market-rocked-by-the-end-of-generous-mortgage-subsidies-a86738
Yare-yare---daze@reddit
They are still far below that of the US, and yes, the center of Moscow is expensive, but even cities like St Petersburg are very cheap. and even in Moscow, you can find cheaper housing in those ant hill aoartments. Americans all want a house and a lawn. Had they built like Russians, at least partially, you'd ha e very affordable housing.
Gaming_is_cool_lol19@reddit
The second article wasn’t about Moscow.
It talks about Ufa and a widespread housing and mortgage crisis. In Eastern Russia, living standards are NOT comparable to western cities.
Yare-yare---daze@reddit
Again, prices vary from region to region, but they are still overall better than the US (when we adjust to wages)
Gaming_is_cool_lol19@reddit

Gaming_is_cool_lol19@reddit
Suicide over orders to head to defend a city at all costs, nothing to do with conscription as you claimed.
Sounds like cowardice, killing himself to avoid deploying to defend a city. How would it be viewed if a Soviet soldier killed themself instead of going to defend Stalingrad?
Yare-yare---daze@reddit
He was hiven a death order. Remember when Russians left Kherson because their soldiers were exposed? Yeah, Russians dont do that. I even gave you an example. Why die for no reason if you know it's impossible to defend the city. Heck, imperial Russia even gave up Moscow for similar reasons. Russia has the best record of not wanting to defend something thats hard to defend, thats how they won counless wars. A city xan be taken back, but those soldiers can't be brought back to life.
Gaming_is_cool_lol19@reddit
Stalingrad intensifies.
Stalingrad was a bloodbath. Both sides kept throwing insane numbers of troops and it ended up a meat grinder for many months. It was a war of attrition, similar to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Stalingrad was different. The Red Army was stalling until siberian reinforcements arrived.

MentalniManipulator@reddit (OP)
Hahahaha, "downfall of US". Where do you get your news from? Informer.rs? USA is the biggest economy of the world, Apple, Meta, Nvidia, Tesla, Microsoft, Amazon - all theirs. USA is the leader of the world, whatever they do other countries try to copy. Everything else is cope.
DotSure8753@reddit
Your username checks out
Stverghame@reddit
No, I don't get my sources there. In fact, this has nothing to do with news, but rather rational thinking.
Every country in history had its downfall. Thinking things like countries are eternal is laughable. Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Russian Empire, Austria-Hungary, British Empire - all of those are in the graveyard of history, just like USA will be at one point. Thinking it is inevitable is hilarious.
Targoniann@reddit
These were all empires. Meanwhile, the USA is a country, and what do you mean by downfall? The country breaking apart into multiple "state countries" or?
Stverghame@reddit
Empires are not countries according to you? And empires are the only form of country that falls apart?
By downfall I imply the decrease of its grip on everything that happens in the world. The way it plays out is not something I should worry about.
Targoniann@reddit
Idk what you mean by that? Of course, empires are countries, but it's different than a modern country like the USA. That's why the word "empire" and the word "country" exist separately
Okay, so why didn't you give an example of modern countries not an empire that fell apart and only gave empires?
skvids@reddit
the USA is an empire though, both in the classical definition and the modern one. have you not heard about manifest destiny?

MentalniManipulator@reddit (OP)
Britain was replaced by the USA, who will replace the USA? China can try, but every problem that USA has, China also has and in higher degree - population decline, economic stagnation, debt.
DoNotMakeEmpty@reddit
Who knows? Until WW1, USA was not known for her might that can replace Britain. Or Germany replaced France in a pretty small amount of time. Ottomans replaced Byzantium in pretty much a blink of an eye. The successor of the USA may become such in 5 years and she may be a pretty non-expected country, too. Even in times of horse transportation and communication, we have seen a couple of examples of superpowers created in a couple of years like Mongols and Timurids. No one knows what future holds.

Trump openly mocked Turkey and the president before. He also hit a big blow to Turkish economy to force a revealed American Agent to be given back to them. Kamala Harris is known to be very close to the Armenian Lobby (which hates Turkey with great passion) and is not very fond of Turkey. I would say both are bad for us but Trump might be slightly better than Harris. Trump, even if he managed the situation horribly, pulled back the US army from the Middle East and it seems like he doesn't want a war here (or atleast doesn't want to involve the US in it). But if I was an American, I would vote for either RFK or Harris.

Seeing how a 17y old stereotypical bum is way more familiar with the history of US presidents than the very state of the country we live in makes my blood boil.
Hearing how said 17y old bum preeches US politics/rethorics to me 24/7 (as if our media wasn't enough), because she has nothing interesting of note in her personal life (and the whole school knew of her Dad's rash on his private parts) makes want to commit a hate crime.
I legit don't know what's worse, the fact that the whole US population thinks that the chair of the US president is omnipotent, all powerfull, and omnipresent equivalent to the Head Secretary of the USSR, or the fact that the US media slowly turns the population of the whole world into mindless bots.

The foreign policy of the united states is determined by the CIA, special interest groups, and their military industrial complex it doesn't matter who is president for the rest of the world. The war in Ukraine will stop when the CIA decides it will, or they run out of money to send, Israel will keep being allowed to bomb Palestinian kids in the thousands, continued confrontation with China and whoever else, nothing will change. Continuation of Neocon imperialism.
I find it funny how Kamala Harris wasn't even elected as candidate, platformed by the democrats who (including Harris herself) constantly reiterated the mental fitness of US president Biden and after that one debate where the old man was exposed for hardly being able to speak, it was really something to just watch as the flip of the script came, and seemingly overnight the entire media apparatus was mobilized to support and rally behind her and Biden was just memory holed.

1No the Cia does not control usa policy the current administration does that and the usa president the other factors while the Cia can influence it , they do not control it nor does the industrial complex control it they have even lower influence
2 the war in Gaza and Ukraine are not influenced by the Cia you can do your own research on this I have no Idea how would explain ,probably gone take ages for him to do with how barren his brain is.
3 last but not least this guys brain is leaking out of his fucking ear like an ice cream in a sunny day or he is just a bot Of course the democrats will suport kamala after that debate went that bad everyone knew that Biden was old but nobody in the democrats though it would be that much of an issue for the voters when the guy he facing is an instructions fellon but i guess 50%of usa voters are as retarded as this guy

The first paragraph is true. I saw an interview of Snowden talking about this. He said that every time a new president is elected, secret service people come and brief him on the ongoing issues. They more or less tell him to not bother with it because it's too complicated. In this regard the president is just their spokesperson, the one who has to present their decisions in some patriotic/democratic/«we are the good guys» kind of way.

As an American who was born in the Balkans I think I want to make a few points to the people commenting:
Trump talks about isolationism and “America first”, but that’s not actually true in practice. Biden was more isolationist in the sense that he pulled troops from Afghanistan, which was a very contentious move and got some criticism from both sides. Trump was very much so against this. He also was interested in sending aid to countries he likes who have leaders who have supported him, but mostly those from counties he can actually point to on a map (not many, and none from the Balkans, including Slovenia. p.s.: Melania publicly dislikes him). All potential American presidents are going to be involved with other countries, even if American voters don’t like that. They will just be involved in different ways. As others have said, I doubt they’ll have strong differences as it relates to diplomacy with the Balkans.
The difference between Trump and Harris is not one of politics, it is one of facism vs. non-facism. It is bad for any country, allied or not, to become facist. It makes it harder for that country to change positively and it also makes it easier for facist leadership to appear worldwide. Trump has said “it doesn’t matter if you win or lose, you just need to fight like hell” has been indicted on 34 felonies, threatened and doxxed the judge, the jury, and then the daughter of the judge, has said there will be a fight if he loses this time, was uninterested when his aides told him his followers had plans to execute his vice president, has had a majority of the people who worked for him in the government come out against him saying they will vote for Harris because they are worried for the democratic future of the US, etc. etc. etc. He is not your buddy, he doesn’t give a shit about you.
Smart business deals will not be made with Trump. He has cut financial dealings or imposed punishments on international businesses that have refused to enrich him personally. He’s not an economic genius. He has gone bankrupt more times than the fingers I have on both hands. If he doesn’t win the presidency, he will have no way of getting out of the massive amounts of money he owes in the courts. He is running because of money. Please recognize he is not going to benefit your economy, much less the American economy. Before arguing with me on this point, additionally recognize that four year presidential terms are almost never enough to reflect positive outcomes from economic decisions.
It is impossible to even imagine the amount of human suffering that happens when countries fall. Most of this suffering happens to regular people who don’t have anything to do with bad international policy. It is a seriously horrible thing to wish for the [complete] downfall of any country, and I sincerely hope people who said that are talking about the downfall of economics or power of the US and not downfall into facism.
I don’t particularly like Harris. I will be voting for her, not that it fucking matters because I live in a state where my vote will quite literally make 0 difference in the presidential vote because of how the dumbassed electoral college system works in America. If you think Trump winning will have zero negative impact on your country, you are wrong.
Not that my opinion is worth much outside of what I know a lot about (US politics) but I would like to say that I don’t feel comfortable with how many countries the US has its hooks in. It’s completely understandable to have a grudge against the US. I have a grudge against the US government for all of its crimes and I live there. I’m not saying you shouldn’t be mad at the US, you should be, but I don’t think Trump would exact revenge against the right people. The extremely rich are those who have profited off the exploitation of other countries, and those people aren’t who Trump is going to hurt the most.
AndreiTatescu@reddit
It was Trump who initiated the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and Biden handled it terribly when he took over.
