Where can I download English subtitles for foreigners like me?

YouTube channels Banijay Science and Mythbusters upload the show regularly, with only one problem for me: no English subtitles. Yes, YouTube has auto-generated subtitles, the problem is too many mistakes. Is there a way to download the subtitles? I can't find it anywhere, and I searched this forum with no results.

Here are all the subtitles that I have, it is around 280, if it helps you at all.

A lot of them come from Closed Captions so they are timed and spaced weirdly but it is better than nothing I guess.
Also these are for DVD and WEB versions so it may not match the edits uploaded to YouTube.

Someone should make copies for the next person who needs it.

Hey man, do you still have the subtitles? The only working link is from OpenSubtitles, but the subtitles for the first seasons are missing...
AndrewNiccol@reddit (OP)
No, right now I rely on Live Captions on Windows 11.
MajorTom16@reddit
I don't know about this Live Captions on Windows 11, it looks really useful... Thanks!!!

I had the same issue with missing or inaccurate subtitles, so I built a tool that generates subtitles directly from movies and TV series. I use it for mostly for English and German. It works really well! You might find it useful: voice-api.app. You can generate subs on web. Or here's a tutorial on how to generate subtitles using terminal if you into that kind of things: https://voice-api.app/blog/generate-subtitles-with-voice-api-bash-script.

There is no Windows support.
nik5036350@reddit
now there are, we made an app https://voice-api.app/blog/generate-subtitles-with-voice-api-desktop-application

Windows 11 currently has a built-in function called Live Captions. What is the point of the app?

Mostly to generate subtitles

I cant add subtitles anymore in youtube? They removed the option?
AndrewNiccol@reddit (OP)
I never knew you could add subtitles to YouTube.
Special-Set-5473@reddit
Okay, but you ask if you can download subtitles for youtube right? Or an i mixing things up here? 😅
AndrewNiccol@reddit (OP)
I used to download videos from YouTube and play them on Potplayer to use subtitles.
Special-Set-5473@reddit
Aaah ok, Thank you 👍

All the episodes available in Discovery+ have closed captions, the timing is a bit hit and miss but they are certainly better than no subs at all.
Yes, it is possible to get the closed captions out of the service but you need access to it (even a free trial will work and the details can't be discussed here).
Also, a lot of the episodes uploaded in the later years as WEB-DL or WEB-Rip contain the closed captions already.

What? Piracy have better quality for including subtitles?
pepetolueno@reddit
Not just that but pirated versions of season 1 episodes are better than the episodes streaming in Discovery+ because D+ old SD episodes are letterboxed to 4:3 and then pillarboxed to 16:9, that means the episode plays with black bars on all four sides. They clearly didn't care enough to do better.

OMG, thanks, but it still missed a lot of episodes.

Google around, there has to be more out there.

I don’t think there are official sources to download them from. It’s possible there are fan made subtitles in your language but I wouldn’t know where to begin to look for them. It’s also possible there are official releases on serviced like Apple TV that have translated but you’ll have to purchase those. Sadly YouTube subtitles might be your best free option.

I'm not asking for subtitles that have been translated into my language; I'm asking for English subtitles. For foreigners like me, it's tough to use just ears to hear every word. The worst part is that the show had a lot of science and engineering jargon, and without subtitles, I couldn't Google the meaning of the words.
NASTYH0USEWIFE@reddit
Oh I see my bad. Yeah official releases will definitely have accurate English subtitles but I unfortunately don’t know a place where you could download them sorry.
