Snowboarding in Dec

Looking for recs for US locations where I could take my 12 year old snowboarding in mid to late Dec without spending an insane amount of money. I prefer somewhere small and laidback where he can take lessons or do some kind of camp. We are not ski people, and he has only been snowboarding once. I would not be skiing or snowboarding myself. We are on the east coast, so locations closer to us would be ideal but we can consider going elsewhere.

I cannot sat enough good things about Butternut in Great Barrington MA! Bigger than Yawgoog but great for beginners and families. Not generally as crowded as the bigger mountains. Very cheap - if I remember correctly it was $30 for a weekday day pass? And all of the staff that I have encountered there have been so kind.

If you can make it out to Colorado, I'd recommend Loveland Ski Area and you can stay in Georgetown.
