Changing market, changing part list

So originally my build was going to be a 7800x3d. Was planning on waiting on a nice Black Friday sale but then the market did *the thing* and now aoparnelrt they're a pricey commodity. Looking at maybe stepping down to the 7700x as it look like I cna get it for a more reasonable $280. Think is I don't see much on this. And what I do see is a "Buy the 7800x3d. So in short, with current happenings, is the 7700x a reasonable CPU? Mostly will be used for VR, which I want to point out my 4690k is actually still doing well. It would be coupled with 32GB of RAM and a 7700XT. Thank you.
