Travelling a week with $1000CAD?

Wondering how feasible it would be to travel somewhere for a week - 10 days solo with $1000. Including flights, hotel, food and transportation, and attractions. I went to LA for around 4 days and I spent around 2-3k but I stayed in a nicer hotel, this time around I want to push the limits
Has anyone had experience travelling with a strict budget like this? Any place that’s super safe for solo travellers and affordable?

3k in LA for 4 days is insane lmao.
Where are you trying to go? What would you like to experience, not many details to go off of from here
I would just go on Skiplagged and see the cheapest flights leaving from your airport and then decide through that
banginhooers1234@reddit
Looks like Florida from Quebec is $100 one way
Then there’s Portland OR, NYC, Palm Springs, Nashville

From YYZ the cheapest is to Miami for about $300

How is it insane? Seems far from insane actually. Hotel and flight is not cheap for someone outside of the US, especially in Canada. 4 nights at a hotel was a bit under $2k, flight $500 and everything else food, travel, and attractions. I did spend on a more luxe hotel as a one time thing, but this time around I’ll try to test the waters as i’m more used to travel… Though i’m never staying in a hostel or capsule hotel…

$1000 CAD = $750 USD Exchange hell no !! Thats just me esp international company
Accomplished_Simple4@reddit (OP)
how about $1000 USD? around $1250? Have you ever even travelled before?
Complete_Librarian_4@reddit
If you travel in the States starting with CAD funds your already losing whatever the exchange rate is .25 to .32 cents on the dollar. Also border control might screen you yo see how much currency you are bringing to take care of yourself. If they think you font have enough funds they wont let you in the country.
Accomplished_Simple4@reddit (OP)
Funds aren’t really the issue here, I’m asking if it’s feasible, I don’t mind spending more but I’m curious as to what’s the sweet spot. I never had an issue with CBP ever, as I follow all rules and bring more than enough money. I’m just trying to stretch the dollar, and yes I am losing on the exchange rate, but that’s the same for if I go to the UK or anywhere in Europe…
Complete_Librarian_4@reddit
$1000 CAD = 700 USD more or less.

Yes I know, obviously I have credit cards, debit and cash, I’m just asking if it’s feasible to do.

Colones exchange rate against the USD has been trading at 1998 exchange rate if you can imagine you get nothing in colones for USD
Accomplished_Simple4@reddit (OP)
Costa Rican colons?
Complete_Librarian_4@reddit
Traveled more than you can imagine! I dont travel on a light budget thats just me. Ive done it before when I was younger never again... its too stressful and many things can go wrong.
umhellurrrr@reddit
Maybe Louisiana
Accomplished_Simple4@reddit (OP)
I’ve always wanted to go to New Orleans.
banginhooers1234@reddit
That’s probably a cool bet, spots like this in the states will be authentic and not as pricy.
Although these days things are a little expensive and I didn’t realize your exchange rate has gone down that much! If you like nature I think the smoky mountains are awesome
Accomplished_Simple4@reddit (OP)
The exchange rate really sucks, and flights within and out of canada are so expensive nowadays, it seems like we’re stuck in one place 🥲
MoashRedemptionArc@reddit
Where are you now? That's going to decide basically everything
Accomplished_Simple4@reddit (OP)
In Canada, near the east. The cheapest flights are down south. Although travelling anywhere in the US my $$$ gets eaten up because of exchange rates.

I did 12 days in Peru for under $1k USD last month. Flights included
Accomplished_Simple4@reddit (OP)
Where in Peru? Did you go alone or have others join you?
explorefordays@reddit
How did you find Peru expenses wise? I really want to visit so would love an idea of how much you spent daily & what activities you did ☺️
andyone1000@reddit
I was staying in a room with en-suite shower in Cusco for c$20 a night and buying food in supermarkets for c$10 a day, so basically cheap. Stayed in downtown Lima for c$30 and Miraflores for c$40. Miraflores is safe and also the costs are higher. A good bbq rib meal in Miraflores was c$30. All US $ btw.
explorefordays@reddit
Amazing thank you! Would you say $1250 (per person) is enough for a month? I will be travelling with my boyfriend, so room and supermarket costs would be shared between two.
andyone1000@reddit
Yes probably. Have a look at the price of accommodation on booking.com and see what you get for the money. You should see that Miraflores and Barranca are about the most expensive areas in Lima, so use those as your worst case. Also check out average cost of cafes/restaurants etc online. Again, Miraflores should be at the top of the price bracket.
explorefordays@reddit
I’ll check them out now. Do you mind sharing what itinerary you did in Peru? Did you do the Inca trail?
explorefordays@reddit
Actually I’ve just done the conversion. I’m from the UK so my budget is £1250 in GBP, so around $1630 USD. Is that more feasible?
andyone1000@reddit
It should be fine-just check what accommodation you fancy to make sure you’re happy with the quality/prices in offer.
explorefordays@reddit
I’m happy for it to be budget, as long as it’s safe! Have just finished South East Asia and muddled through some interesting accom there, so will be happy with anything really 😂
andyone1000@reddit
Well unfortunately I went when there was a strike and they closed off Machu Pichu-people got stranded up there for a day or so, so I guess I was lucky. So I just went to Lima-stayed in the historic downtown area and Miraflores. Saw great museums, flew to Cusco and spent a few days going around museums and eating lovely food in the markets-they’re cheap and healthy. Freshly made juices, sandwiches and chicken soup, all good. Rainbow Mountain and the Sacred Valley are all good around Cusco. It’s a wonderful environment, but take it easy for the first couple of days as it’s above 13000ft.I took acetazolamide tablets to counteract that. Enjoy!😊
explorefordays@reddit
Thank you for all of the info, really appreciate it!! ☺️
A_britiot_abroad@reddit
Depends where you go and how you staying etc. I have spent a lot less than that before but I guess from Canada it's more expensive to get to a cheap country.
Accomplished_Simple4@reddit (OP)
Yeah it’s difficult with the exchange rate already, the foreign exchange fees really mess it up for us.

Cheap flight to Guatemala and then go to lago di atitlan
MoashRedemptionArc@reddit
Cheap flight to Guatemala? That'll be the 1k then and there, right? How cheap can a flight to Guatemala really be?
