I live in Massachusetts. My dad is not in good health. What would happen to his firearms if he passed away?

I still don't think you're quite getting it chief.
What firearms? I don't think my old man owns any, and that's all I can recall.

Guys if I fucking knew I would say…. I have know fucking idea I just know he has firearms in a locked case in the basement where they live.
Goodspeed137@reddit
Exactly, so as far as anyone is concerned, you don’t know anything, and he doesn’t have anyone. And you don’t have anything either.
Fluffy-Map-5998@reddit
no no no, your not getting it, what firearms, your old man didn't have any firearms, certainly none that you knew of

Lets roleplay.
I'm the police and I ask you what kind of scary baby killing machines your dad owned.
you: What guns? I don't know about any guns.
Me the police: Come on, you can tell me, it will go better if you do.
You: No idea Barney Fife, but have fun with the rest of your fishing trip.
Me the police: Curses!! Foiled again!!!
FPSXpert@reddit
sigh... they still don't get it.

Not saying what state he is in. He can put them in a trust where you and he are members and they are yours. Don't ship them. Take the drive,

Looks like you'd need to get a Firearms Identification Card (FID) before you could take possession of them. Probably best to have an FFL handle the transfer too.
If your dad does not have a will, he needs to have a will. Find a lawyer because every state has their own complications about that. If he wills them to you, you get them after probate is done. If he gives them to you now, you get them now. If he dies without a will everything is expensive and takes forever and you might not get them at all.

FIDs are only good for manually operated long guns. They need an LTC to possess ANY semi automatic long guns or any handguns. After the new law that took effect, there are absolutely zero loopholes anymore
AngryOneEyedGod@reddit
Bring them up to NH before he passes.

It depends on if he used a trust to get it or not.
