GarandThumb did a video with an 8.6BO that I believe has the same (or similar rate, might be 1:2)- and one of the rounds was lasering through like 4’ of ballistics gel like it was nothing.
My guess is that a 1:1 is not going to apply enough torque to break the steel before breaking the copper. Just thinking about bolts at 22 teeth per inch, and those require a bunch of torque to break
Insignificant in the grand scheme of things. We really need more moderate twist barrels in factory rifles to take advantage of modern high performance bullets.
I'm really curious about the ballistic difference in ultra-fast twist rates. How much energy does it actually impart compared to something like 1-7 or 1-10, when comparing similar projectiles.
10gaugetantrum@reddit
I'd like to see that sucker go into some ballistics gel.
DocBeech@reddit (OP)
We'll think about it.
usedkleenx@reddit
Spin that puppy on a frozen lake!
Vodnik-Dubs@reddit
This is the way
roostersnuffed@reddit
Lol you'll think about it? Don't edge us, show completion!!
DocBeech@reddit (OP)
Maybe.
exgiexpcv@reddit
Ooh, if you're taking requests, I'd love to see what a contact GSW from an M16 with a blank round and no adapter looks like in ballistic gel.

Cigarsnguns@reddit
8.6 BLK is 1:3 i believe
KeepandBearMemes@reddit
They are testing 8.6 with 1:1, from kevin himself
Spaceforceofficer556@reddit
1:3 twist and bonded projectiles only.
islesfan186@reddit
I saw that video as well. Pretty insane
savagehighway@reddit
I'd like to see what a casted lead drill bit as the projectile in a 1:1 twist into ballistic gel.
Tacoshortage@reddit
I'd love to see how muzzle velocity compares to normal twist for that round. I'd also love to see how the barrel-life measures up.
Crossroads46@reddit
Who made the barrel? Also, how does the rifling fare having that much more torque applied to it?
anothercarguy@reddit
Remember when gun Jesus talked about progressive twist rates? He wasn't thinking about this
Crossroads46@reddit
Ok?

6inarowmakesitgo@reddit
We have super fine thread bolts for some of our presses and those bastards are a motherfucker to break loose.
nmotsch789@reddit
It'd certainly wear the bore out a lot faster
e30gang@reddit
How much slower is the exit speed compared to a more normal twist rate?
DocBeech@reddit (OP)

falconvision@reddit
What do you consider moderate twist?
anothercarguy@reddit
Guessing typo for modern or maybe midrate?
No-Interview2340@reddit
When did over spin leave the conversation lol 😂, how we looking down range, great video
anothercarguy@reddit
I want that round to spin so fast it climbs
duck_physics2163@reddit
So, I know nothing about twist rates or why this is cool. Could someone explain?
ReadySetStop333@reddit
now do that with a 2" barrel.
tykaboom@reddit
8.6 blk?
ananonanemone@reddit
MOA accurate at two inches.
Kr04704n@reddit
That ttsx is having a bad time
Wreckage365@reddit
I wonder if the monolithic was a necessity due to the forces
bmx13@reddit
Absolutely, jacketed round would yeet immediately on leaving that barrel.
ThePretzul@reddit
Meanwhile an A-tip will poof just from chambering it in a rifle with that kind of twist, no trigger pull required.
Dude_I_got_a_DWAVE@reddit
Wild. IIRC, 5.56 out of a 1:7 is spinning at 225,000+ rpm at higher velocities
OODAhfa@reddit
Woah! I want a . 45 acp with 1:3.
jrragsda@reddit
What was the muzzle velocity? Did y'all calculate RPM?
I've seen .224 projectiles pop from being over spun in a fast twist barrel. I'm impressed that one stayed together.
Hour-Independence-89@reddit
Yep, I shoot F-class, FTR and Palma. I have a ..223 wylde with a 1:6 twist and it makes Berger 90gr VLD go POP!
You can sometimes even see them disintegrate on the way to the target. Looks like a puff of smoke.
USArmyJoe@reddit
We can go twistier.
mcnastytk@reddit
My understanding is with a twist this crazy the bullet over stabilizes and shit goes wonky like the bullet starts flipping or break apart.
onceagainwithstyle@reddit
Noone tell Q.
Additional-Coffee-86@reddit
What bullet is that? Crazy the construction held up to that when people have been blowing bullets apart for decades with less twust
Hot_Departure9115@reddit
Apparently 8.6 blackout and other heavy slow moving bullets need crazy twist like 1:3.
KomradeTheWolf@reddit

Deleter182AC@reddit
I’m gonna want a 1:1 twist barrel plz for what caliber ? 50 beowolf plz . Ok what size 22 inch
singlemale4cats@reddit
Kevin at it again, he must be stopped
CheeseMints@reddit
Thats pretty kewl, would love to see what it looks like in gel or with one of those solid copper penetrator bullets
still_dumber@reddit
I'm 95% certain that was a solid copper barnes TTSX bullet.
edventure_2025@reddit
1 in 1? They turned it into a drill bit.
C_IsForCookie@reddit
Now with 7 times more twist!
No-Interview2340@reddit
1/.14 that would be insane, bullet would have to be longer for that speed
No-Interview2340@reddit
That’s some insane fast spin , you can see them groves cut in
drmitchgibson@reddit
Is it accurate?
pomdudes@reddit
How many frames per second is that?
-E-Cross@reddit
Do it with a 4 bore now lol
Rude_Bed2433@reddit
Freaking awesome
doomrabbit@reddit
And y'all just still firing bullets from this? Getchu some drillbits instead!
DocBeech@reddit (OP)
Don't need drill bits if you just load the nail into the casing.... Ram Shot baby!
lil_johnny_cake@reddit
Where just goofin off now
Hammermier2@reddit
"How much energy on target do you want?" "What target."
WaitNo1780@reddit
Subsonics?
