Absolutely I'm familiar with the AR-10 platform, I guess I meant more in a SHTF scenario between only one or the other I feel the common 223/556 chambered AR15 would benefit from having more common parts and availability.
The SCAR is absolutely a great platform and still very versatile, but that is why I made my decision the way I did :)
And in SHTF I'm assuming I'll be using my rifle as sparingly as possible. You could probably buy an entire group of replacement parts for a SCAR for not too much money (excluding receivers, barrel, etc) and that rifle would last you a lifetime.
SCAR 17 owner here. The newer models are non reciprocating. They shoot a lot softer than the older reciprocating ones. I love the way mine shoots. That being said... it's more feasible to just grab an AR 10.
It does crack me up though that with the release of the Sabre handgaurd likes, PSA created 3 separate styles that each knock-off KAC, Geissele, and Centurion. Give the people what they want, I guess!
It feels great and well balanced. There's definitely a balance between cheap knock off and overpriced Gucci gear. I feel PSA has done a wonderful job calling out the latter, especially with the sabre line and what you can get for $1k
Imo people are way too obsessed with a rifle’s weight. You’re not a soldier who has to walk 10 miles every day. A civilian with a battle rifle is going to leave it in one place 99% of the time. Heavier guns are nicer to shoot.

AR any day. While I love that the 308 is more heavy hitting, if it's one or none I feel that one would give you more options at least.
ifunnywasaninsidejob@reddit
You can get AR in 308

.308 is arguably just as common as 5.56.

Hey whatever makes you happy, you do you. I'm just compensating for being a broke MFer that doesn't have SCAR money 😂
BeenisHat@reddit
Of these two, the SCAR. But I'd rather have the XCR-M.

Idk who here has shot a scar-h / mk17 but they suck lol Unbalanced jack hammers with way too much reciprocating mass.

Ah I didn’t know that! Navy guy here. I’m not sure which gen we had. Must have been the older ones.

I like the Sabre, and it looks really good.Â

Agreed. Put my first AR together with a PSA build kit using one of their FN CHF barrels. It was a steal at the time.Â

I don't believe in ultimatums.
I'll take both and you can't stop me because I'll have two guns.

Also, ARs are like Hondas, parts everywhere.
BigoteMexicano@reddit
Is that scar in .308? Because that's a no brainer
Medic923@reddit (OP)
Yes 308. Less ammo capacity (both mag and load out), heavier, proprietary parts. Those reasons are why it's not a no brainer for me.

SCAR, looking cool will obviously make up for my lack of skill. Also doubles as a boat anchor or club in hand to hand.
