Final episode of season 3 of The Grand Tour. It was their last episode in the tent and the last episode they filmed with a live audience. That was the end of the original studio type format they started Top Gear with.
Pretty sure it was the trio that wanted to move away from the format and as may and clarkson have said in several interviews they’re getting on in the years to have more adventures and they realistically have done it all at this point. So they wanted to end on their terms and they did. Not a lot of shows and their creators have the restraint to end it on a high note where the fans will forever have fond memories of them.
Not sure which moment hit harder. But if I hand to rank them I'd say...
The end of Top Gear was the saddest because it was the most sudden and shocking. It was so popular, it was something I looked forward to a lot, and because of how the Beeb 'constrained' them it was even funnier when they pushed the boundaries. I knew that whatever the trio did next wouldn't be as good as what they did on TG (and it wasn't).
One for the Road's ending with the flashbacks to the Africa Special was a gut punch and also equally sad in the sense they're not going to be making new shows at all. Though given the long gaps between TGT episodes by that point, it felt like they were winding down anyway so the ending didn't feel sudden like with TG.
The least sad was the TGT tent ending which I knew was coming with a "but we're going to carry on differently". The saddest thing here was the end of "the news!" and audience interaction though.
I miss top gear so much. It was my Sunday night for such a large portion of my life from adolescents to adulthood.
I have really enjoyed Clarkson's farm and our man in series.
The boys have given us so much great entertainment over the years I'm happy for them to do whatever they want to do now.
Similar for me, I was single, married, divorced, married again, changed job countless times, moved to different countries, you named it, but Top Gear was the constant in my life. Fuck aging.
I feel the same and have replaced it on a Sunday night with Harry’s Garage on YouTube. It’s not the same but is an enjoyable place to get my Sunday night car show fix.
By the time I was born, series 2 of TG was about to be broadcast. Jason Dawe had already been and gone, and Mr Slowly was about to make his debut. Rewatching it now, and I’m now closer to Clarkson’s age when these were filmed than he is now. They have quite literally been on my screen for my entire life and I’m still not certain I’m ready for them to have stopped.

The facial expression makes sense now. The beginning of the end.

Would they still be presenting TGT of their was a tent/studio and they do 1 big special every 2 season (like TG?)
My guess is yes. But i’m pretty sure that Clarckson Farm wouldn’t exist same with Hammond Smallest Cock (Cog, I know)

I thought the last tent thing was Amazon asking?
PlanetLandon@reddit
Unlikely, the tent segments were almost certainly the least expensive thing to make
JJMcGee83@reddit
It wasn't expense it was because they thought we hated it.

Yup I remember staying up late at night secretly when I was around 8 and watched from behind the couch secretly when my dad had top gear on
