Hello, I am visiting Budapest with some friends next week and would just like some info on whether it’s best to carry Hungarian Forint or euros (talking a small amount of money probably £40/50 worth). Thank you

Cards are acceptable almost everywhere or you can withdraw Forints from bank ATMs, IMO £ 40/50 you can change anywhere, worst case lose 20 Fts/£

Just for clarification I will be using card for most purchases I’m just thinking about carrying small change incase it’s needed. I will take Forint then, thank you

You can also withdraw HUF from a local cash machine using your UK (?) credit/debit card. Many cards have reasonable fees on this.
Just avoid the “Euronet” cash machines. Any ATM from reputable local banks will do (OTP, Erste, K&H, Unicredit, etc)

if you're like the average tourist you will only need some change for pubic toilets.

Best to exchange in .hu once you're there - b/c of the better rates. £50 will do the trick just in case, otherwise card.
You can find good rates in malls and in exchange bureaus on the great boulevard (a.k.a Körút along the tram 4/6 route). Enjoy.

Pay with your card using Euro. Best thing you can do. I only pay with Euro through my credit card and I get amazing exchange rates.

Use Revolut, cards are accepted everywhere

The official currency of Hungary is Hungarian Forint not Euro (unfortunately). It doesn't really make sense to bring EUR but you won't really need HUF either since you can pay by card pretty much everywhere.

Probably the best to carry HUF. We use forints, so it would make the most sense.

Forint, the few places that accept euro as cash are doing it at an awful exchange rate.

Forint but you can use your card almost anywhere these days.
