Reminds me of my garage before my wife emptied it!
Laser_Krypton7000@reddit
You could get way more money if you sell the IBMs one by one - not as one big haul !
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
I thought about trying, but I don't have boxes or supplies and I need these gone quickly.
Laser_Krypton7000@reddit
I pointed some people to your auction, so eventually you will get at least some money:-)
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
Thank you! I'm sure I'll do just fine. It's the 286s and 386s that I'm putting the real effort into, and they actually work!
bobconan@reddit
Do you have any info on the Everex?
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
No
bobconan@reddit
I will pay you and send you a box with a prepaid label if it is one that I'm looking for.
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
I've got bids on them already.
bobconan@reddit
Can you get me a picture of the bay with the speed switch on the front? I will buy the entire lot if I need to.
rpocc@reddit
I’d completed 2-3 fully working machines out of this pile, with best parts in best looking enclosures, repair everything what needs that if I can, sold extra parts for cheap, kept one for myself and sold others to collectors in no rush, for worthy prices. At least this is my usual routine for PC fragments, salvaged from scrapyards.
Until you make sure that certain part isn’t ruined by corrosion and actually works, all of that is in category “non working / for parts”
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
Yep, all for parts. They're all in rough shape. I'll selling them together as I'd rather put more time into other machines that are in better shape.
UsefulChicken8642@reddit
Retro cases are going for good money on eBay. Thought I would be original and build a gaming pc in an old (2000s era) power max G3 but they are hard times find and when they do pop up they are hundreds of dollars for an empty case
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
I wonder if G4s are worth anything?
Justthisguy_yaknow@reddit
I want you to get the valve oscilloscopes a few feet to the right. I'd take one of those over a modern one for accuracy and response.

Justthisguy_yaknow@reddit
The blue ones are pretty aren't they? The military one on the right I would almost get just to put on a top shelf for that mad scientists lab look.
CubilasDotCom@reddit
This is a good haul, I’d love a non working chassis for a project if any are still available ?
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
It's on ebay as of this evening.
CubilasDotCom@reddit
Could you share a link

NightmareJoker2@reddit
sigh… 😔
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
I need it gone...
NightmareJoker2@reddit
There is no way you need it gone so much, that you can’t spend an hour on each of these (you probably won’t take that long), to take pictures from all angles, list them individually, and write the text on the label of the case in the item description. Especially considering you’d have an easier time to unload them that way, and make more money. You see, people don’t look for lots, they look for specific things. They usually want just one for themselves, and are happy if someone else gets one, too…
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
I don't have a realistic way to ship this many. Way more trouble than I want to get into right now. I'd be happy to let someone else flip them though, lol.
NightmareJoker2@reddit
You don’t need to ship them. Though it is reasonably easy for someone with experience (and lots of stiffening packing foam), most buyers prefer to pick these things up in person because shipping can be quite rough. It’s way easier to take just one in the passenger seat of your car, instead of the whole lot. Most people interested in these don’t drive a big truck, if they drive anything at all (I sure don’t). 😉
CubilasDotCom@reddit
You might make a good bit of cash by selling these individually!
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
I thought about it, but I really need these gone. I'm going to sell the 386s and above that I've tested working individually, after I source some boxes, lol.
CubilasDotCom@reddit
Count me in for a non-working shell if you end up having one laying around
CardDependent@reddit
I encourage you to sell, even cases in rough shape sell for alot.
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
It's on ebay as of this evening!
Espada-De-Fuego@reddit
What's the ebay account to check the listing?
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)

NightmareJoker2@reddit
As a lot or individually? Please tell me it’s the latter and you took decent pictures from all sides and the inside…
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
As a lot. I need this stuff gone and I don't have any experience with these.
CardDependent@reddit
Cool, and good luck! Hope you make some money off of those!
TheRollingPeepstones@reddit
As they say: it's all garbage, give it to me for free, I'll dispose of it.

That poor rainbow
chiclet_fanboi@reddit
Be happy! I'd be..
penkster@reddit
FYI, top left is a DEC. either a decmate ii or a rainbow.
tilted-glass@reddit
Top left is a DEC Rainbow 100 case - pretty rare
JoJoGaminG1936@reddit
I take one 😭 I Even pay for shipping to Germany.
ErHa532@reddit
recycle
generaldis@reddit
No way. That's against our religion. Unless they are totally trashed.

Hello! I recently got a lot of computers from a warehouse that was being cleaned out. These old IBMs are just a part of it, but I'm wondering what to do with them? This stuff is before my time and not really of any interest to me, but I suspect despite the old age and rust, someone might be interested in these. Thoughts? Thanks!
For some reason text isn't uploading and I can't edit the post, only delete. Anyone else having issues on Reddit with firefox or chromium?
Adorable-Cut-4711@reddit
If you have enough time, sort things so you have a chance of ending up with complete systems. I would think that they will sell for way more if complete.
Also especially the box on the top left seems to be something that needs its dedicated parts of sorts. It might not even be a PC is it perhaps some sort of workstation? The power switch has a strong DEC/Digital Equipment Corporation aura.
Note that many of the old systems require mounting brackets for drives and whatnot. You might want to keep a look for mounting brackets when going through everything else and pair brackets with cases.
IIRC the 5150 and 5160 cases don't use brackets when using full height drives, but there might had been some sort of brackets for using half height drives. IIRC the 5170 AT cases uses brackets, or rather slide thingies, for every drive. I might misremember though.
If you are outside of USA/Canada make sure you collect/sort all non-metric hardware and keep together with the old PC stuff. Back in the day the PC cases used non-metric hardware even outside North America. Not 100% sure but I think that hard disks might still use non-metric hardware for some of the screw holes? And/or this might be the case for optical drives. I.E. the screw holes on the cases are in different places for metric v.s. non-metric cases, matching the metric v.s. non-metric screw holes on optical drives, perhaps?
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
Good info, thx! I'm in the USA, but I don't have a lot of experience with this stuff and I really just need it gone. Most are rusty, so I'd rather not make them worse with my lack of experience, lol. Just pass them on to someone who knows at this point.

True IBM ATs and XTs sell well on ebay.
algaefied_creek@reddit
Where in the world are you?
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
Oklahoma.
Salt-Ninja1@reddit
Aw man, would have loved to have bid, but I'm in New Zealand so shipping would be bonkers. Everything is so hard to find here.
nicoleole80@reddit
Are you located in Iowa? I’d be interested for the right price
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
Oklahoma.

go buy large bottle of alcohol based hand sanitizer and rolls of paper towls
take a case outside, squirt some hand sanitizer on a paper towl then rub to clean case, after paper towl is very dirty, repeat.
AudioVid3o@reddit
You probably could make 1 or 2 good computers out of the parts, then you could part out all of the other machines and sell the parts in lots (say lots of floppy drives, lots of motherboards, lots of cases, lots of hard drives, etc, etc)
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
On one hand I wish I knew more about this old stuff (way before my time), and on the other, I'm good. I remember fighting my first pc (486 variant, when P3s where current gen) and getting frustrated with it, lol. This lot is on ebay now.
ainskohler@reddit
I would appreciate some parts from the lower right two
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
It's on ebay now.
raindropl@reddit
Fix what you can and sell it; or just flip them one; in current condition
inthevendingmachine@reddit
1) What country are you in?
2) Please say Canada (in the GTA).
3) The true IBM 5170, I would love to have that.
4) Sleepers. Make sleeper cases. A 5150 (has a cassette port on the back) will hold an ITX system easily, a MATX with effort. A 5160 (slightly wider than 5150, no cassette port in back) will fit a matx nicely (I converted one myself) or a full ATX but you'll be putting the PSU in the drive bays. The 5170 easily has the width for a full ATX motherboard, it probably can stand the PSU on its side and has a good inch extra height above the pcie brackets for taller video cards. The non-IBM cases would need to be evaluated on a case by case (literally) bases.
Littlegoblin21@reddit (OP)
South midwest USA, lol.
I read somewhere about the sleeper idea, sounds interesting.

You are a very lucky person, and I hate you very much. 🙂

They'll sell on eBay, even in this rough condition. Try FB Marketplace for local.
