Is it worth it if you aren't rich?

Is it worth getting into flying and scraping every penny you have together to rent a plane for another hour?

I'm not rich by any means. But I'm not living in poverty either. I'm fairly financially stable with no debt, no kids, really no expenses other than some health/medical expenses month to month.

To get my PPL would be a challenge financially, I'd definitely have to save for 5-6 months to get the funds together to be able to fly regularly and stay current.

And I would love to go beyond that with flying and it would be really cool to get to the airlines. But it seems like a lot of people say that beyond a PPL, flying/expenses/instructing really beats the shit out of them and they get burnt out.

And I would absolutely have to go the CFI route if I have a snowballs chance in hell to bank up the hours needed. Hell, it'll probably be a while before I can even get the hours and instruction needed to go from PPL to CFI.

Is it worth it? I don't have any aviation background or relatives who fly so I just don't know. I loved my discovery flight that I went on and the controls felt very natural. And it was incredible flying in the Mooney M20 that my CFI took me up in.
