New to sailing acquired 19.6ft Montiago that I’m leaning to rig and restore. I noticed I don’t have a boom and the main sail looks to work on the same concept as on a hobbie cat (boomless).
My question is this a mount for a boom? Is there a specify name for this type? Can I go down to local salvage yard and see what I can find.

It’s the bracket for fitting a halyard winch to the mast to raise the sail. You don’t really need a winch for this size boat

used to be a winch

Winch mounting base used to provide a flat mounting surface on a shaped spar...

No it's not a boom mount. It's on side of mast. That is a winch base to raise main sail. Winch is missing. Also I don't believe that that boat does not use a boom. I could be wrong never looked up your boat.

Also a Montego 19 has a boom.

Any idea where I can find one? I’m going to a salvage yard to ask questions tomorrow but no idea if I can find a similar size boat and take boom from there.

Ah. Look up boat on sailboatdata.com
I believe your boom is 8.5 ft. You can boat salvage, containment stores, craigslist, ebay, Facebook market. Even I'd you know the mfg of mast. Go direct to them. The cheapest ways is used. Good luck.

Thank you for the tips!

The above is good advice, but frankly, you could just use a section from a dinghy mast. Just get the length right, maybe buy a bit longer as a safety buffer.

Yes I was wondering if op just spelt it wrong.

Thank you for the feedback, I don’t think it’s the original mast.

Best of luck fellow sailor. Looks to be a fun little boat.

Yep I misspelled it.
